    Gojo Combo

Amazing food and the best people! I've come here every week for the past 6 weeks while overcoming a medical issue with my stomach. My friend recommended Gojo after I asked her for help and she said this food helps her diabetic mom too. My family comes once a week and enjoys their cultural decorations, food, and company. Who knows, maybe the company helped heal my stomach too! :) Let me tell you - the food is not only delicious, you GET SO MUCH. The photo is half of the Gojo Combo. It's also reasonably priced for the amount and quality of food. Never too spicy, always seasoned great, tender meats and veggies. We'll be back weekly even once my stomach is healed!

The norm is when something is on your table when you walk in and sit down you are not charged. When my group sat down each person had a bottle of water at their place. Before we walked out, each of us had to pay for the bottle of water that was at each person's place. There was no notice. I asked for a check while leaving. I got one but it was not itemized. The water cost about $3.00 The waiter noticed he gave the wrong dish to someone. After the patron told the waiter he had eaten from it, the waiter wanted to exchange dishes. Objections were voiced. The waiter kept saying it was OK. The other parties said it was not. Eventually the waiter acquiesced. These were not expensive dishes. Their primary ingredient is dried legumes, not lobster. There was a about a cup of the legumes in each one. There was no excuse for this. Go-Jo is place where you are deceived about what is included is not one to be trusted. Where one-half eaten bowl of split peas is imprudently exchanged for another's. It poses a danger to our health.

Downright home cooked Ethiopian food full of flavor and authenticity. The veggie dishes were soooo good...coupled with the spicy Awaze Tibs and the meat dishes... such a satisfying Ethiopian food fix. The restaurant is a no frills hole in the wall ...but the authentic meal and coffee ceremony set up is legit!

The owner and his wife are very kind! We had dinner and ordered a combination platter which was very fun. We got to try a little bit of everything and now we know our favorites for next time. He helped explain everything and didn't rush us.

We enjoyed our dinner at Gojo! The vegetarian options were all excellent. The meat options, the sauce was great however the meat texture was a bit tough to eat. Loved the decor. Service was a bit slow but very friendly staff so we didn't mind. We will be coming back!

Pretty solid, inexpensive, good-value Ethiopian food in a no-frills setting. I showed up looking for a quick lunch, and that's what I got. I ordered their veggie combo ($16 plus tax), which comes with 7 different veggie dishes and injera. The highlights were definitely the misir wot and the shiro (middle and bottom middle), with the other dishes being rather middling. Good portion, good value and pleasant service. Solid spot.

A friend and I ate here recently. We did sort of question the looks and location, however once inside we were warmly greeted. We both had the Gojo Combo and I have to say of the three Ethiopian restaurants we have tried in the valley this is the best of the three. The combo gave us a great taste of the veggie and meat options. Yum! Definitely recommend.

Food was quite good and service was good enough. The major concern was the fact that there was a mf bottle cap in our dish ! Not sanitary. I don't enjoy giving bad reviews but they need to take more precaution because trust me, this was not appetizing... On top of that, when we notified the worker, he reached with his bare hand in to grab the bottle cap and remove it, saying "sorry". Sorry for the bad review but I had to bring this to attention

Any bad review about this place is pure delusion. The food here is amazing and seasoned to perfection, every time I come here the flavor is consistent and the previous time. I've been to other Ethiopian restaurants and this one reigns superior. The service and ambiance is okay, nothing too crazy or exciting but I'm not letting that get in the way of how good the food is. Don't second guess trying this place because if you do then you're missing out on a good food experience.

Café Lalibela was closed this week and I was craving Ethiopian food so I decided to check this place out. The restaurant is a little hidden gem in the area. The family that owns the restaurant is very friendly. The interior of the restaurant is simpler than Café Lalibela but the food is just as good. The meat combo is a good way to try the different meats. I do wish the portion was slightly bigger because it was so good!

Great service! Incredible food! Food was great and portion sizes are stuffing for the price. Will definitely be my go to for Ethiopian food now!

Gojo Ethiopian food is amazing ! Quick service. Easy pick up. My sister and I have returned a few times since we tried this restaurant. So far never disappoints and the serving is huge. I would definitely return again and I recommend this place if you are a fan of ethnic food in general and Ethiopian food

The spices and "soups" (more like stews) are exotic, similar to Indian food in presentation, but very different in how the meats are prepared. Traditionally, you eat the soups with fufu. I would describe fufu like a thick, glutinous, fairly bland, root paste used as the delivery vehicle for the soup to your face instead of a fork or spoon. No utensils! Fingers only and it makes the experience even more fun. The fufu pairs perfectly with the soups and is very filling. One entree easily makes for leftovers. I believe the African goddess that cooked and delivered the food to our table is the owner. She knew it was our first time and you could feel her care in the preparation and her joy in explaining the best way to eat. The dining area has about a dozen standard diner style tables and there is a sink IN the corner of the dining room to conveniently wash your hands, before and after eating. This no frills, locally owned treasure is a must try. If you are intimidated by new cuisines eaten in untraditional ways, look up "Egusi and Fufu" on your favorite social streaming app to learn everything you need to know. You will walk in with confidence. Regardless, the fine folks working here are also kind and eager to help and make recommendations. I'm posting with updated menu photos (Nov 2025). Prices seem to range $20-$25 per soup including the fufu. We had the Egusi and the Cassava Leaf soups. Both fresh, amazing and in my opinion a good value.

But if you put Sriracha on Everything, then this is the place for you. I ordered the spicy goat pepper soup with the fufu and it was heavenly. My only complaint was the portion sizes. All of the portion sizes are very small for the amount money you pay, thus the 3 star rating. The delicious of the food added the additional star which is why ultimately decided on a 4. My friends all got the lunch specials and they weren't happy with the quantity. I ordered my husband the beef "patties" to go, only to discover it was only a singular "patty" for $6. And if you have a party of 5 people and or more, they automatically add a gratuity to your bill. The restaurant is small on the inside but has a nice front patio outside which was shaded. On a nice night, it'd be romantic to sit out there. Overall, I'll be back to this place. But be prepared to order double portions per person, so you'd spend about $40/person before tips and taxes.

But, unfortunately for me my experience was the exact opposite . This location is set in the Tempe food court. So automatically I was turned off by the fact it's not personable no interaction with the actual creator or business owner . You have to order through a kiosk ( which I do understand the idea of conveniency culture .) But places like this deserve to be show cased . What I ordered was fried plantains, Ogbono Soup , with two pieces of chicken , poundo fufu, and two sodas . For starters , The plantains were a bit undercooked, the soup was lacking flavor very ( oily , had no other contents but broth and the chicken ) so what was advertised on the menu looked NOTHING like what I got , no fixings such as ( no okra , the peppers etc) . The chicken was dry and it didn't taste fresh at all , it had this peculiar after taste I couldn't quite put my finger on. Overall I wasn't at all satisfied with my food and I'd say this meal in particular wasn't worth the $51.00 whatsoever. I want to say I stand firmly on supporting black businesses, but I won't lie about my experience. I'd say i would give this place a second try and at least come back to try the Jollof rice since that seems to be their top seller as it was sold out .

This recent visit was my third time having Ethiopian food, and I went in with an open mind. I remembered the last time I had Ethiopian food, I didn't really enjoy it. You have the option of choosing from their platters, or you can build your own. I created my own platter - I got the lamb dish (#5), the chicken dish (#3), and lentils (#9). These 3 dishes came on injera, which is a sour, fermented flatbread. It is basically a plate for the food, but you also use it to scoop up the meat/lentils to eat. My order also came with several more pieces of injera. The injera "plate" got soggy from the meat and lentils, so it was harder to use it to grab the fillings because it just kept falling apart. The chicken wasn't that great, so I wouldn't order that again, but the lamb dish and the lentils were sooo good. I had enough leftover for a second meal. I'm glad I gave Ethiopian food another chance! Next time, I would probably get the beef, lamb, and lentils.

We ended up getting platters off the menu instead, mostly ordering vegetarian. (But if you're hungry or want more food, the buffet is a good option.) The green beans and the collards are a solid combination because of the difference in texture and spice. Cabbage, fish and beef were also good. Everything came either on a bed of injeera (soft) or rice, or a combination. On weekdays they have lunch specials which are the best deals and very good and inevitably you'll have leftovers to enjoy later. Service has been better and more attentive in the past but it was busier than usual too. The actual decor and location is a bit dated but you probably wouldn't come here for the atmosphere.
