For some reason, we enjoyed this visit even more than the last because we ordered properly! No meat. We are both "meated out". The Deluxe Vegetarian Platter was massive, enough for 3 people, served with fluffy teff bread (injera). They provide a small fresh (uncooked) vegetable salad on the round plate of cooked lentils, together with excellent greens which was a much needed reprieve. I had my collard greens (gomen) so I was happy! The diners were of diverse backgrounds and it was nice to see people from all backgrounds and ethnicities enjoying the taste of African spices and unique Ethiopian food preparation. Till next time, Lalibela! Highly recommended this business. We met the lady who does the cooking! Lalibela, long may you thrive!

Café Lalibela is a must try spot!!! Highly recommend. Very tasty and healthy food. Big portions and priced well. The injera was delicious. Service was great. Very beautiful restaurant inside with plenty of seating. Our meals were super flavorful and we were very impressed overall. If you've never tried Ethiopian food before, this is the perfect place!

A great spot for Ethiopian cuisine. My friend and I shared the Lalibela deluxe platter and though it said it was for 2, it could definitely feed three easily. I had leftovers for another two days! The collard greens and the beef were some of my favorites. Scooping up the food with the injera was a delicious way to make sure you tasted a little bit of everything. The server was patient with us since we had a hard time deciding what to get. The cold chai was a refreshing accompaniment to our meal too. It's a clean, bright and well decorated restaurant. I'd go back again to try other dishes.

Been wanting to try Ethiopian food for a while now. My friend and I decided to finally give it a go! We decided to go with the lalibela deluxe (for 2), and it was surely overkill! When they say it's for 2, they mean 2 very large guys lol. We had extras for sure! I quite enjoyed eating the food their way, it reminded me of the Middle East, in a good way! The woman taking our order was very patient! We also got the cold chais, which I couldn't stop drinking! I'd come back to this place again for sure!

I had the Lunch Special Sampler. I got Doro Wat (spicy chicken stew), Fosolia (green beans & carrots), and Tikl Gomen (cabbage, potatoes & carrots). I had half rice and half injera (bread). This was so delicious, healthy, and filling. I couldn't have enjoyed anything more!!! It is perfection.

I really struggled to write this review. I've never had Ethiopian food, so I really have nothing to compare it to. I imagine this is some of the better Ethiopian food you'll find in Arizona. However, it wasn't my favorite. It was cool to try something new and the restaurant interior was very unique. The food kind of reminded me of Indian cuisine, the biggest difference being the injera instead of naan. Probably wouldn't come back, but if you're looking for something new, I would definitely recommend this place.

Our group was new to Ethiopian food, so our server suggested a chef's combination of meat and veggies. The stews were rich and flavorful. You eat it by tearing off pieces of Ethiopian bread. Comfortable booths, handmade bowls decorated the walls for authentic atmosphere.

First time trying ethiopian food (and i am a typically picky eater) and i LOVED IT! We split a big platter and it was a delightful mix of everything where everyone could find something they liked. I also got an iced chai tea and wow was it yummy. The decor is super cool and there is fun music playing as well which makes it an awesome eating experience. The service was quick and nice, making sure we had everything we needed including refills. I will totally be coming back here again!

First time coming here and I will be back! The beef was AMAZING and so flavorful. The coffee was fantastic as well, it was so rich and exactly what I needed.

The ambiance was serene, and the food was hearty and rich! I love the extent of vegan options--I felt very accomadated.

    Doro Wat

The food is flavorful, but takeout was not the best experience. I was missing the egg for Doro wat and the beef dish didn't come with the salad.

First time at Lalibela, on recommendation form my kids. We arrived at 12:45 on a Sunday afternoon and there were four other tables full, of the available 21 seating areas. We ordered the Vegan deluxe, the beef deluxe and a meat platter. We added a side of rice and an iced tea. Everyone enjoyed their choices, with the exception of very cold injera. Sadly, my gut reacted very violently over the next 12 hours, which was unpleasant for myself and those around me. My gut just didn't feel right for a full 24 hours. It wasn't food poisoning (which I've had once, years ago), just gut wrenching food. Sorry, but no return visit in my future.

We came for my husband's bday dinner. I made reservations a day in advance for 6pm on a Saturday night. I'm glad I did because by 6:30 Lalibela was full. Plenty of parking in the lot out front and the inside is a good size with a nice Ethiopian decor. I was surprised to see carpet since I never see that in restaurants and it was clean! We were greeted when we we walked in and went straight to our table since my brother was there before us. Our waitress was nice and took our drink and food order right away. For our party of 6, we ordered the Lalibela Exclusive platter that feeds 4 plus an extra mild beef stew and spicy chicken stew since we weren't sure if the platter would be enough but it was more than enough. Everything was good except my son and I don't like the taste of goat so we didn't like that dish. But personal preference. Lols My fault for not asking if I could switch that out. Flavor wise pretty good though if I compare it to my fave Ethiopian restaurant in San Diego, that one is a lil more flavorful.

Kare Ethiopians' location offers the traditional objects and décor of the culture and traditions - giving you a feel and apropos ambience. But the tables and chairs are reminiscent of the 60s with somewhat sticky plastic table covers, it has airy and comfortable seating, adequate service and courtesy and admirably modest prices - yet the food was good, but less than extraordinary! If you're not an Ethiopian food fanatic, Kare may not be the place to start your testing your taste buds. But if you're not an aficionádo or enthusiast already, there are a handful of other Ethiopian restos to better try. Right off the bat, when served my requested Pop Walia Lager, I had to ask for a glass, and the beer was barely cold! My wife ordered water, was served a bottle - no glass! We started with appetizers of reasonably tasty meat Sambussa. We decided that our main would be a sampler dish giving us ample opportunity to try an across-the-board spectrum of their offerings. It was a good choice. Within minutes of our appetizer arrived our sampler platter which included: selections of misr wat (red lentil), alecha wat (vegetable stew), fosolia (butter beans), gomen (damn good collard greens), and tikil gomen (excellent cabbage and potato stew) and key sir (a very good beet, potato, cabbage mix), all served with traditional injera and garnished with very little salad salad. I was hoping the selection would also have included some servings of kitfo (beef), atkilt (spice cabbage), and/or Yebeg Alicha (lamb stew), but I was not in luck. If this restaurant is near you, it will be a relatively decent choice for Ethiopian, but if not, for really excellent renditions there are at least two other competitors worth trying and more mouthwatering.

Wow! For $17 I got the vegan combo plate and it came with 2 sides -- I opted for the mesir wat (spicy lentils) and gomen (collard greens). The mesir wat and gomen came beautifully wrapped in an injera, with a salad on the top and two very large rolled up injeras. This combo would be more than enough for two people to share. I ordered right as they opened and my order came fairly quickly (~40 mins), so I was really happy with that as well. The mesir wat was seasoned spectacularly! Just enough heat that pairs with the savory flavor. The gomen also was deliciously garlicky, all coming together so harmoniously with the sourness of the injera. I was worried that ordering it for delivery would affect the experience, but everything came nice and warm and it was so great to have this meal at home. I definitely will need to come in next time, with friends for sure, I could not finish this combo on my own.

However this is not the restaurant's fault that falls absolutely on DoorDash and their poor service. Having said that this is a family run restaurant. When you walk in may not be aesthetically pleasing to the eye on the outside but what you're about to experience inside is absolutely so much more. I ordered the mushroom wat which was very reasonably priced at nine dollars and an iced tea. The owner of the restaurant is very friendly very warm when I also taking my order promptly. The dining area itself is smaller, but very quaint and its ability to maintain its coziness. The decor of the restaurant is pretty modest in a culturally based atmosphere which improves the atmosphere of this wonderful experience. My food was very promptly made and arrived on the table quickly and experience was about to get all that much better. The mushroom wat was absolutely amazing and absolutely what I have been craving for the 20 years. I've been waiting for in my return cravings for Ethiopian food. The bread they used for dipping with absolutely perfect as it is always one of my favorites to indulge when eating this food. In the end this place left me sitting at the table absolutely stuffed, which is fantastic especially with the price what I paid for it all. They sell water, you cannot get a glass.. only bottles. The prices of the food seemed reasonable. I got the Awaze Tibs(seasoned beef dish). this was very good. It came with the authentic Injera. (gluten free fermented bread) it has a spongy texture, a very sour dough like flavor. My daughter got the Alicia Wot (seasoned lamb dish). It was also very good. My problem lies with the service mostly. All the men that worked there, sat in the room with the TV, area watching the soccer game including our server. We sat there forever to get the door and then I had to go wake him for our bill. He didn't offer an itemized bill, just gave me the amount. I had to ask for an itemized bill. I'm not a fan of a restaurant that doesn't want to do their job. I will return and try more of the food, but i'm gonna have to figure out how to deal with the service.
