The food is absolutely amazing. Excellent and flavorful. If you can't handle the "spiciness" of ketchup, this might not be for you. But if you put Sriracha on Everything, then this is the place for you. I ordered the spicy goat pepper soup with the fufu and it was heavenly. My only complaint was the portion sizes. All of the portion sizes are very small for the amount money you pay, thus the 3 star rating. The delicious of the food added the additional star which is why ultimately decided on a 4. My friends all got the lunch specials and they weren't happy with the quantity. I ordered my husband the beef "patties" to go, only to discover it was only a singular "patty" for $6. And if you have a party of 5 people and or more, they automatically add a gratuity to your bill. The restaurant is small on the inside but has a nice front patio outside which was shaded. On a nice night, it'd be romantic to sit out there. Overall, I'll be back to this place. Let me start by saying I had tried a similar dish at a different restaurant and was thoroughly disappointed. Still, my 13 y/o son has been seeing a lot of fufu dishes online and was craving his first Nigerian meal, so I searched Yelp for the highest rated spot with open on a Sunday afternoon. We drove 45 minutes to central Phoenix, and my expectations were honestly pretty low based on my previous experience elsewhere, but I wanted to give it a proper shot for my son's sake. Walking into the restaurant, we were immediately greeted and seated at our choice of booth. Service was quick, and the ambiance felt warm and welcoming. We both ordered the I Love Spinach dish, their version of Egusi, with chicken and fufu. You can also order it with beef, goat, or veggies instead of chicken. I do wish it had more spice, but I recognize that my palate, as an East African woman, is used to a certain flavor profile that I didn't quite get here. That said, please don't mistake that as a criticism, because this meal was absolutely delicious. I genuinely did not want to stop eating, even when I was full. This dish had me in full glutton mode, and the portion size was very generous. I took about half home and finished it around midnight because I could not risk the flavors I enjoyed so much changing overnight. You know a meal is good when the table is silent, and my son and I kept exchanging quiet nods of agreement as we happily stuffed our faces. The only words we exchanged were comments about what we liked most or encouragement to try different Egusi-to-fufu-to-chicken ratios. The potions are good sized; we both had leftover enough for another meal which we took home. The young ladies working that day were so personable and helpful. I wasn't too familiar with their plates, and the menu's photos weren't labeled, but the staff were happy to explain and point out their dishes. I ordered the Groundnut Delight with beef and fufu. My co workers and I came here for lunch one day around 11am. In my opinion, the exterior of this establishment doesn't match the interior. When we arrived, there was only one person in there. The three of us took a seat wherever we wanted and the server came to our table shortly after. We ordered our food and while we waited our server made us some sample drinks. It was a hibiscus, pineapple juice, and ginger drink. This drink was refreshing, delicious, and a favorite amongst all of us and we had to order it!! Our food came out and it smelled and looked delicious! The taste was pretty good, to me. The only thing I didn't care for was that the beef was a bit too tough for me. It had more of a medium well steak texture when it would truly benefit to have more of a good pot roast texture. If it were more tender and the meat pulled easier.....it would've been perfection for me! My coworkers ordered the chicken instead and they said it was tender. Such a cute restaurant with great indoor and outdoor seating. I had never tried West African food before but I am so glad I did! Our server was so kind and explained what everything was on the menu and recommended the West Hut. My partner tried the beef which was incredible but I tried the goat which was on another level of delicious! I'd never tried goat before and now I can't stop thinking of going back for more. Holy smokes! Every bite reminded me of my mom. I ordered the okra soup and red efa It was so delicious. I'm mean yummy. I eat it by it self. The only think I didn't like was that the beef was boiled but not roasted or fried before it was dropped in the efa so it had a weird texture. It could also be the cut of meat. It was a little spicy and was of great texture. The rest of the sides matched well with the dish. My boyfriend ordered the spicy goat soup. He was warned of how spicy it was and she was not exaggerating. Luckily he likes spicy dishes and he said the flavor was rich. He did wish there were more goat pieces in the soup but says the little pieces that he got had good texture. He ordered it with a side of fufu but wished he had the rice after trying mine. We are not sure what fufu is supposed to taste like but there wasn't much flavor to it. I also ordered the Sobolo drink; it was sweet which I enjoyed. My only issue was the price, it was expensive. First time trying West Hut and honestly, I was pretty impressed! The vibe is super chill and welcoming definitely feels more like you're eating at a friend's house than a restaurant, which I loved. It was cooked in a tomato based sauce that was tasty. I had tasty jollot rice and a side of this delicious a bit spicy pepper sauce on the side. It was tasty. I think just about anyone out there would like it. My husband tried the dish called I love spinach with chicken. I think he had the same chicken I did but it was placed in a bowl that was different with spinach and different flavors that also were good. He also got fufu as his side. We never had fufu before....It's so different. You make your own tortilla with it. It doesn't add much flavor to your dish. It's almost like mash potato flavored. It was interesting and fun. We love food from all over the world so we were excited to try this new place after reading about it. Reading through the menu brought back memories from high school where we all made dishes from French speaking countries. One of those dishes was a rich soup with tomato, peanuts and spices. I knew immediately that I wanted to try the Groundnut Delight. I also spied the West Style Sobolo. The family ordered the West Hut, Poisson Braisé, and Pepper Soup. The soup is the only item I didn't try because when my husband says it's "nice and spicy" it's way to hot for me. Everything was delicious, and I will attempt to describe them. The sobolo was warmly spiced, and had some heat from ginger and possibly West African bird peppers. It reminded me of mulled wine with so many spices coalescing into a rich flavorful drink. The first dish to arrive was the poisson braisé, a grilled lightly seasoned tilapia. It comes with 3 different sauces to add. This would be a good dish for those that can't do spice. The sauces were spices but not necessary to eat with the fish. The second dish to arrive was the West Hut. The sauce is rich and complex flavored which tomato and spices, it too wasn't hot. The beef was tender and the rice made a hearty meal. Finally, the Groundnut Delight arrived and it was worth the short wait. Rich, warmly spiced, flavorful with tender pieces of chicken.
