Authority Auto lives up to the hype -- they make car buying SO simple, AND they saved me time and money. From start to finish, the process was simple, friendly and zero stress. All it took was a few emails and phone calls to get the car I wanted. Chris, the guy I worked with, was very patient and friendly. My entire interactions with Chris totaled no more than 30 minutes, but at the end of the purchasing process it felt like I'd known him for much longer than that (in a good way!). It's worth pointing out that all Authority Auto employees have previously had at least management-level experience working at dealerships, so all of the stressful, time-consuming and complicated aspects of negotiations were completely handled by Chris. Although I did a bit of research myself on how to negotiate for a car before finding Authority Auto, I am so glad that they were able to take all of this off my hands. Even the pick-up process at the dealer was painless--after inspecting the car, test-driving it, and then signing the papers, I was off the dealer lot and headed home within 30-45 minutes. It's worth noting there was zero pressure from the fleet manager at the dealer; no upsells, nothing but good customer service. Chris also made himself available for any calls during the dealer pick-up process, in case anything went wrong or if I had questions. Nothing went wrong and I had no questions, and in fact Chris had to call ME to make sure everything was okay because I was having too much fun driving my car home! BTW, one big note: Authority Auto can have the dealer drive the car to your home, but I was an exception as I was an out-of-state buyer with a special request: I actually had an upcoming, pre-planned trip to Southern California, and wanted to try getting my car there instead of my home state (the dealers here are notorious for not "playing ball"). I therefore asked Chris to see if he could help me with the logistics of 1) selling my trade-in and 2) picking up a new car in California. Not only did Chris make this all possible, but he was able to find the car I wanted in half the time (I gave him a deadline of two weeks; he got my car in one week) and save me money. How much money? According to TrueCar.com, Authority Auto saved me $1400 under invoice, $1900 under what other buyers typically negotiated, and almost $5000 under MSRP. Oh, and Chris threw in two unexpected bonuses: $0 due at signing, and I didn't have to pay my first month's payment. This when I was expecting to pay a total of $2000 or so at signing. My monthly payment was also $150 less than what I was expecting to pay. Good explanation of the process, and what to expect. Cons: There is some opacity in the overall process at the beginning, but as you ask questions you learn and it gets clarified quickly. For some the lax nature of your advisor might be jarring at first. Chris is laid back, I'm more type A, but he is very responsive. Maybe an East Coast vs. West Coast thing. My wife and I recently had the great pleasure of having Angela DeJesus broker an amazing deal on a new car for us. Everything went great with Authority Auto, ... until it didn't. My wife and I had seen a new car we wanted at a local dealer, and that dealership had given us a price quote. I had heard of Authority Auto from a relative, and figured 'why not give them a call..?' Richard was the negotiator who took our call and explained their service. To be fair, because I thought I might revisit the quote with our local dealer, I asked Richard right up front "What if we don't buy the car through you?" Richard's response was "You won't owe anything more than the initial $200." So I figured that was a win-win. I'd pay $200 and see what Authority could do for us, and I'd retain the option of buying from our local dealer. Richard was very professional and communicated with us over the week or so he was shopping for us. He came up with a price that was a few thousand less than what we had been quoted from that local dealer. (We even sent that local dealer's bid to Richard.) So I asked the local dealer if he could match Richard's price - and the dealer did (the dealer actually came in $300 higher, but for a car with a few more features than we had Richard looking for us). So I figured that was a fair price given the added features, and we went ahead with the local dealer's bid. When we explained this to Richard, he got upset. I reminded him of our initial conversation about what we'd owe if we did not buy through him. Richard's response was along the lines of 'well of course you owe the additional $600 because you used our price to buy that car.' Which we did, but I had asked about this exact scenario up front. Richard was not rude, but he was clearly upset. I was quite taken aback because I had asked up front what would happen if we did not buy through Authority Auto, and thought our $200 payment would be sufficient per our agreement. I asked to speak with Oren (owner) and he was professional but also more forceful. We agreed to split the difference and pay an additional $300 of the $600 they wanted. So my advice to you is to use Authority Auto *IF* you are comfortable not having anything further to do with negotiating. But if you think you might want to go back to a dealer yourself, then don't use Authority Auto; or be prepared to pay Authority Auto their full commission even if you find a better deal on your own. Despite what Authority may tell you to get you to sign up as a client, there is no 'only pay us $200 option' in their business model. They want all their money even if you negotiate a comparable or better deal yourself. The only way out of their business model is if you don't buy a car at all. Now you know. By far the best car buying experience we've ever had. Oren and Chris Knutson were really great to work with. We had two Hondas a few months from lease expiration. The dealership was calling us non-stop trying to get us to trade them in and do a new lease. Based on our experience leasing the cars from the dealership ourselves a few years ago we had a bad feeling that we were not going to get a great deal on our own. After researching car concierges, Authority Auto was the clear pick. Chris got the dealer to take back our cars early, wave the extra mileage charges and put us in two new cars with significantly lower payments (total and monthly) than we had before. If you hate walking onto a car dealership's lot and immediately being swarmed by commission hungry salespeople - read this review! I've never used a car broker before. Oren, Founder of Authority Auto, was highly recommend to me by a trusted coworker. My situation was challenging. My 2017 Chevy Bolt was coming close to the end of a 3-year lease. I had signed on for 45,000 miles total. At the time I called Oren my mileage was nearly 70,000! I loved my car and wanted to lease a new one but I didn't want to get into the same situation 3 years from now but I couldn't afford to buy a new one. Oren and Authority Auto reviewed my situation personally and spent a long time patiently explaining all my options. After listening to Oren, buying didn't make sense for many reasons and he was able to find a brand new 2020 Chevy Bolt with the exact features I wanted including the color and wheel style. He negotiated directly with the dealer and worked out a 3-year lease with a total of 75,000 miles! Who knew that even existed, but Oren did. I only had to fill out a credit app online, show up at the dealer and sign the papers. Oren was actually on the phone with me as I was signing to ensure the deal he negotiated had not changed. After seeing my neighbor go through 4 cars and hearing the deals he got on each one of them, I knew I'd be calling Kim when it was time for a new car for my wife. I read about Authority Auto in a forum and saw a lot of 5 star reviews, so I figured I would give them a try. I actually called on Thanksgiving Day figuring I would leave a message and they would call back on Black Friday, but Oren took the call and explained the program and I agreed to sign up. The next day Nathan was assigned to my deal and took a deposit over the phone. I explained the car my Wife was looking for (2017 Chevy Volt LT base model) and that I needed to do the deal by the end of the year to qualify for the $7500.00 Federal tax credit. I told him we just wanted a base model in White, or Silver. My wife wanted to test drive one and look at a few so we started on the far side of the Phoenix valley from where we live (Apache Junction) and stopped at 6 different dealerships. The first Dealer gave her a test drive and wanted to give a quote on her immaculate 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid with 158,000 miles and was only offered $1000.00 which she took as an insult. We left and stopped at the other dealers "Just Looking". None of the dealers had base models, or very good choices on interior & exterior colors and options until we got to the last one which was closest to home...LOL. They only had a couple, but the one that was actually in the showroom checked all the boxes for my wife even though it was a color she had not known about (Satin Steel Metallic), it also had upgraded leather interior (comfort pkg) and a driver confidence pkg that had desirable safety features that she decided would be OK. We told the car Salesman that my "Business Manager" would be in touch shortly. I called Nathan and told him I wanted him to deal on this particular car before someone else did. I also let him know that we are Costco members and hoped they could deal down from that programs offering and get us the $700.00 Costco gift card to boot. I also agreed to pay extra for them get us a better deal on our trade in car which Authority Auto treats as a separate deal. Nathan & Oren worked late and called us at home that night with a deal that we were really happy with especially on the trade. We agreed to the terms and went to the dealership in the morning, signed the paperwork, said no to all the other stuff they wanted us to buy and left with a new car and NO STRESS! Throughout this process you could say we were fairly wishy washy about what we wanted, but Nathan & Oren simply rolled with the punches and were always pleasant to deal with. We probably made the process a little easier for them by going out and actually stumbling onto the car we wanted, but I am sure they were doing their research and would have presented it to us in short order. I used to enjoy the process of finding and negotiating for a car, but as I have aged it has become an ordeal that I do not look forward to.
