I was recommended to come to this place to do a quick oil change and potentially a brake replacement. Our car is new and this would be its first brake change at about 45k miles. My inlaw said that he had a bad experience, but it may be different with me, and it was in the area I was in. I took the chance and Jaime said he was going to advise of the diagnoses. Prior to me going there, no symptoms regarding any issues and there was almost an unnoticeable movement on my steering wheel that only I could notice that many would probably say it feels normal, however NOT due to my brakes. We were also planning to purchase new tires soon, re-balance, and alignment, a definite cause of what i was talking about. I only asked about my brake check because it had the miles and wanted to know whether we change now or when we purchased our tires. Jaime calls and mentioned I needed new front brakes and the rears were about 40% left. I agreed to replace the front and since this is a new car, to simply machine the rotors, a common practice when changing brake pads, and thought it was going to be an easy job considering it had no issues and wanted a "clean" start with new pads. He goes on to suggest that we should get new rotors and it was going to add about $120 more. I declined because its a new car. When we picked up the car, he was now really pushing us to spend the extra amount for new rotors because now he claims and found out that my rotors were severely warped. I asked him if they were that bad, why didn't we have any symptoms of shaking when stepped on the brakes? He just shrugged, gave me no good answer, and I felt at that point he was being dishonest with me. We had no issues going in and now we have warped rotors? I told him no, because we were perfectly fine going in and the real job I wanted is the oil change. On our way home, once we got on the highway, we have never felt so scared for our lives. The car now would shake uncontrollably when braking!! We felt the brakes were going to go out on us. It was horrible! We drove slower and all we wanted is to go home. This shop was closed already and closed for the weekend. Left them a voice-mail immediately. We need this vehicle and now I had to spend more money to fix what they ruined. Here is where they will get some credit. They were quick to return my email, not my voice-mail. But they called my inlaw, not me, odd because the paperwork and voicmail has my contact info and my inlaw had no reason to be called. They gave me partial refund, which is what I wanted because I did take into consideration the parts they used, oil, and some of that labor. Jaime seemed very defensive when I told him I felt he was being dishonest and he should have been more transparent with me whether or not he had the team or equipment to do the job I asked for. He said he did, but my experience told me otherwise... Hopefully, you reading this has a better experience. Just don't go there for brakes. You will be pushed to get new hardware everytime... read more

They had my car for close to a week trying to figure out what was wrong and why it wouldn't start.. I commute so I was so annoyed and irritated and everyday they couldn't figure it out made me think of an extra zero that was going to be added to my bill, and every star I wanted to take off the inevitable Yelp review. Turns out the new key I had made didn't have the special factory chip that allowed the car to start (some fancy security device). He only charged me $100 (1hour worth of labor). He could have been a bad man and took advantage of my ignorance like I always assume these mechanic types to, but he didn't and earns 5 stars and a repeat customer. Just before Christmas, I bought a "new" used car on craigslist: a super clean 2001 British Racing Green Mazda Miata with 37,000 miles. It is a very fun car, especially when driving with the top down on winding coastal roads. But when I got it, it had dings and a nasty dent in the door. Let me preface this by saying I've taken my '96 crown vic to many shops in my 3 years of owning it, and not a single other shop, including dealerships, have been as comprehensive and quick as Auto City Repair. I was referred to them by Roberto's Auto Rescue and showed up with my check engine light on after much repair the day before. I rushed in explaining how I was already missing an entire day of classes being stranded in the city and how desperate I was to get the car running and back to Sonoma County. I was afraid and naturally assumed that it would take a few hours just to come to a diagnosis and a whole day to fix the issue, just like every other dealership and shop experience. However while I conveniently had lunch at a cafe nearby, Jaime personally worked on my car. Within half an hour he had a diagnosis and had the car running perfectly in less than two hours. I am also a very annoying customer when it comes to mechanics because I am curious as to what every single parts name and function and explanations as to what is going on. Jaime put up with all my incessant questions and even diagnosed a problem I had been asking about for years. I am so lucky and blessed to have found this shop in the city and plan on driving down to the city in the future to receive more work from them. Not only were accommodating when it came to time, they also only charged a low diagnostics price for all their work. If you have the option, I highly recommend Auto City Repair. Short review: Got a diagnosis of a misfiring cylinder after I had two coolant hoses blow in a span of two days and had fixed wiring within two hours of bringing my car into the shop. Auto City is the cure... After the stereotypical poor to barely fair experiences at car repair shops I was pretty disillusioned with the entire service industry (surprise, surprise). When my partner recommended that we take our old Mitsubishi to Auto City because the "guys seem nice", I scoffed at her naiveté out loud. As it turned out she was right and I was wrong (not really too surprising...happens occasionally :D). Over time, the owner Jaime's honest, timely and straightforward treatment cured me of my malaise resulting from repair shops. Beyond fixing our car in the first incident he's been there with good prices, honest and unselfish advice in other cases as well. For instance, when our friend's front end of her Honda was mangled in a fender-bender at a later time, Jaime suggested various options with a price range that allowed her to get it fixed up perfectly in accordance to the age of the car. Since then, he's giving me candid (and free) advice for seperating gems from lemons among the aged beaters I've been looking to when trying to a used vehicle. They're honest which is great but they billed me too much labor for a very easy job. Its their business and they can bill as much as they want but $110 labor for a new battery terminal is kind of ridiculous. I'm happy they didn't try cheating and sell me a new starter or anything but still a new terminal is like a 10 minute job even if I did it myself. I feel a little used. read more

It was a switch and bait. I was quoted a reasonable price over the phone to service on my car for general maintenance. When it was time to pay, the price was way more than what I was quoted over the phone. When I dropped my car off they did not even show me the price I will be paying and assumed it would be the amount I was quoted over the phone. Then later I was told that price was never quoted to me. For a couple of months I had an off and on problem starting my car and wasn't sure what was going on. I took my car to Auto City Repair on a Thurs. I left it all day so they could start it cold, but the car kept starting, They asked me to leave it overnight to figure out what the problem was. That day they tried starting the car 4 times and it started every time. They tried again, and the 5th time it started. They made sure they figured out what the problem was without charging me extra money. It took 2 days to get the problem solved, but they never gave up. I guess this guys are blind or something... I used to live in the neighborhood and have been to Jaime's a few times, for smaller jobs, but never quite got an impression he was being ver honest with me. Early this week, I rear-ended someone on that drastic arco station on fell and divis. My radiator was gone, and being a couple blocks away, I took my car there. He said it's be $400 to change the radiator (upon further investigation, 3 other shops quoted me between $240 and $340, - quite a discrepancy, huh?). Then he called and said that was damage to the body and it's be $650, now, b/c ha needed to pull the engine back out. Asking him whats his hour rate - $120 - I decided to take it to my friend's shop who charges $80, for the hour. The originally $650, estimated repair was well done by Robert at Auto tech 1 in 1/2 a day for $278!!! Less than half. Of course, even so I told Jaime to Not work on the car after the quote went up, he still charged me $80, to get it out of his shop. what a rip-off!!!
