Both my family and I have bought cars from Auto Lenders in Toms River with good experiences. My purchase was a Camry in 2023. Last week I brought the car to the service department in Toms River for an oil change. When the job was done, Greg, the service writer, told me that my alternator is going to fail. I said how do you know? He said we can tell when we scan the battery that the alternator is going bad. I said really? So I asked, "What does a new alternator cost?" He says $870.00. I said I can't do that right now. So he says, "Well, don't drive far, it can stop working at any time. Watch your lights, they'll stop working".I drive to Stamford once a month, so I was concerned. When I got home, I checked the paperwork and realized that there was no diagnostic run on my car to prove his claim. Also, on my way home i noticed that my blind side lights or rear backup alert did not work. They were working when I drove there... My BIL is a Certified Toyota mechanic, so I called him. He took my car to the dealership and checked it out. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY ALTERNATOR!!! The button for the alerts had been turned off. I had a good experience buying my car and just continued to use their auto shop. Unfortunately, because of Greg, they just lost a customer. Did he see a woman come in for an oil change and figure he could make an easy commission by lying to me? My gut told me something was off when he was speaking to me, and I was right. Don't use their auto shop. They will rip you off! UPDATE. I have been contacted by corporate regarding my review. They said that they are upset that this happened and are very sorry. They say that the service writer has been talked to about this. In the past, I have had good experiences in the auto shop with service writers Chris and Maria. I have bought three (3), vehicles from Auto Lenders, I have referred so many customers and I have praised the Auto Lenders Team, defended at times also. I ran into a car issue, transmission to be exact on Friday, February 20, 2026. I called Auto Lenders to have the service team look at it, diagnose and possibly repair. When I called the service department, I was asked the usual questions. My name, contact number and I was asked was the service for the Honda or Jeep? I said neither it is for the Subaru Outback. He asked if I had another number possibly? I gave an old number nothing came up. He asked if I was sure that I bought the Subaru from Auto Lenders, where I advised I did and it was my third (3) vehicle that I purchased from there. He then asked if I had the VIN which I gave him, to my surprise and his; he informed me that the VIN was still showing to be on the lot and not purchased. I said Sir I bought this car from you guys in June of 2023. He then said he needed to speak to the finance manager and would call me back, because he was showing that I purchased a Honda CRV. I was SHOCKED! I have never had an issue with Auto Lenders; the sales team was always helpful, not pushy and respectful. However, this is not sitting right with me. How could someone mess this up? I did call my auto lender, Capital One to verify they had the Subaru Outback information and they do and I also double checked the DMV records. The service guy would not schedule an appointment until this was fixed. My car was not drivable and I called back to speak to the sales department to see if I bought an extended warranty because I could not remember. It was the first time I encountered an Auto Lenders salesman pushing to purchase a vehicle. I advised him I still owe $17,000, the car was not drivable and I live 35 minutes away, can they help with a tow? He said if I purchased another vehicle, yes. What about getting the car looked at to be serviced? No. I understand clerical errors happen however for me the consumer, this is a big mess up. Although the paper work is now corrected, I believe someone in the corporate office should be aware of this error. I am an Office Administrator for a radiology company and if a mess up like this happens, it is imperative that I know and correct the issue. I have since taken my car to a transmission shop where it is being replaced. I never received an apology from anyone, no manager called me to explain anything, and the stress this caused was intense. In the past I have bought a 2012 Honda Accord, 2015 Jeep Patriot and 2016 Subaru Outback, all from the Toms River, NJ location. I purchased a 2019 jeep Cherokee from Auto Lenders of Toms River back in March of 2022. It had 34,000 miles and was fully loaded. Easy choice. I had purchased from them before and it was a good experience. I can't write all I want to because there's a stupid word limit but lets just say I will never purchase or recommend anyone purchase a vehicle from them because their misdiagnosing...or lack of diagnosing an engine issue has ended in the motor needing to be replaced to the tune of $11,000....which I don't have...and I still owe $17,000 on this maroon paperweight. They ignored my pleadings and my telling them something was wrong...until I was 700 past warranty expiration. Now they found the problem. The problem was there every time I brought the jeep in. The other three times I brought it in they said there was nothing wrong. Why would I keep bringing it in if nothing was wrong?? Who does that? This is criminal. I either throw my credit away by letting the finance company repossess it or I pay $419/month for a car with a blown motor. And while I'm at it...jeep should be ashamed of themselves for becoming such a shitty and shoddy manufacturer. They obviously built a lemon. Jeep motors don't die at 75,000 miles. Not the old jeeps. Both jeep and auto lenders should fix the jeep. Did I mention AL offered to buy it back for a $10,000 loss? Is the motor REALLY blown? Do they want to fix it cheap and sell it again to someone else? Something shady is happening and my only recourse is to find a lawyer. I really believe if I was a man the jeep would have been fixed the first time. We were in the market for a second car, and this dealer had a great price on Autotrader for a 2017 Bolt Premier. It was a bit of a schlep down to NJ from MA, but was worth it. I worked with Florence to get a test drive, get some quick tire stuff done on the vehicle, and purchase the vehicle. I ended up heading back home without the car because MA makes it a huge hassle to buy a car from out of state. Before I left, Florence and the sales manager worked out a way for me to get the car shipped home so that I didn't have to come back, which made it an easy decision to buy and much less of a headache. The title showed up for me in the mail a few days later and I was able to start the process of getting it set up with MA. For the shipping and throughout the process Florence kept me apprised of where everything was at and I finally got my car at home today. All in all, was an easy experience and I'd recommend getting a car here. read more

Jeep is beautiful and a great deal. However, staff and/or computer system do not believe that a woman can handle maintenance on the vehicle. It was bought in my name only,outright no payments, came out of MY account. The only thing my boyfriend did was make the first phone call to A.L.. Dante the salesman was told that John had nothing to do with the purchase and to deal with just me. Title only in my name. Well,John was getting ALL the texts and emails. "HI JOHN ARE YOU ENJOYING YOUR NEW JEEP?".Went to the lot explained to another salesman I felt disrespected that they weren't contacting me the owner. All info was changed supposedly that day. Guess who is STILL emails and texts and none are being sent to me. All this after multiple phone calls and a personal visit and conversation. Everything was supposed to be changed to just me only MULTIPLE TIMES. Tired of the poor computer system and disrespect given to me ,the purchaser and titled owner. All John did was make the first phone call to ask about the vehicle. Ladies don't bring a man and if you do don't let them take any of his info Just spoke with a very nice and professional woman from the corporate office. I purchased my vehicle from this location a few years ago and went here for oil changes and tire rotations normally every winter. During my last visit I got an oil change that took 4 hours and the mechanic forgot to put the O ring in the right place of oil filter. my oil has been slowly leaking out to a point where it was causing mechanical issues. To overlook something this simple without any care on there part it is hard to ever recommend even basic service let alone something advanced. look elsewhere for repairs. read more

The used cars are all detailed to make them look brand new which is impressive. I saw online what I wanted and it was waiting for my arrival. What I did not like was that they pushed the extended warranty on me like I was stupid if I did not take it (I didn't). The salesman also gave me the impression that the brakes on this low mileage (12.5k) car were new. The car is now at close to 20,OO0 miles and I just had to put new front brake pads on the vehicle. That means I bought the car with the original brakes. I bought a used Honda HRV and now wish I bought a brand new one. read more

I got jipped a couple hundred dollars last year actually selling my car to them. I had a price and it took them months to accept my price. One of the guys called me and said that they would take my price, but when we sat down to do the paperwork it was much less and then here was the whole "let me talk to my manager and try to get this taken care of I can't do anything about it. We did the whole dance for like an hour and they came to a price a couple hundred short of what I wanted but at that point they had won. I was so aggravated that I thought I was going to go in for a nice and fair transaction and got Joanne the scammer'd/ hustled. So basically the takeaway from this story is always get ur prices in writing. Tell them to email you with the price that they're telling you because their word don't mean anything here; and that's the worst in my opinion. You've been warned. read more

Stopped in Saturday after being very disappointed with Causeway Honda in Manahawkin. Met with Joel and he had the car we were looking for waiting for us. After a test drive, he suggested I drive a few other brands in the same class. By Monday night I was the proud new owner of a Jeep Cherokee! Love the fact that they are a no haggle dealership. I was so happy for about the 1st month I owned my truck. After that all went down hill, nothing but one problem after another. 1st my lift gate went, I took it back service told me it had to be something I did so it's not covered under the minimal warranty they gave me. They quoted me an astronomical amout 3x's what Nissan themselves wanted to fix it. A few months later while driving the truck started to shake only to find out the tire rod was completely rotted out (less than a year after purchase) and needed new breaks. I was told that was "wear and tear" not covered. Now less than 2 years of having the truck my radiator has completely rotted out. Details below November 2018 Car Purchased November 2018 Car returned to have repairs of a faulty water pump Cost $1,500 (1 week service time) December 2018 Car returned due to electrical issue with radio. Car was claimed as fixed (2 days service time) January 2019 Car returned due to electrical issue with radio again. Car was claimed as fixed (2 days service time) February 2019 Car returned due to same electrical issue. Was advised this issue has never happened before. Had to communicate with Germany because they didn't believe the issue was happening (5 weeks service time) Cost $8,000 May 2019 A/C unit has horrible smell. Was advised all filters need to be replaced Cost $300 (1/2 day service time) June 2019 Sunroof not functioning properly- Had to travel to parent company in Germany and could not report it-Did not use it. September 2019 Driver assist, inoperable displays on dashboard- Turn off car- error message disappears. Have to travel to Europe. Cannot report October 2019 Bring car in for Sunroof and Display message errors. Advised cost will be $6,000. (2 weeks service) November 2019- Forced to buy $3000 warranty plan (discounted price) February 2020 Inoperable displays on dashboard (2 days service) October 2020 Sunroof not working-zero response still waiting October 2020 Oil change and wiper blade replacement. Wiper blades $30 on website charged $50. Incorrect ones put on causing an issue with windshield. Had to have them replaced at a different location. October 2020 Auxiliary battery malfunction. Still trying to schedule appointment zero call backs after 3 attempts. read more

This company claims to buy all cars as a trade in but refused to give me a specific price for my car. Secondly, it claimed that the vehicle had more options than the base model. This was a false claim. Third ,it claimed to have great financing but any the specific dealer who sold the same type of vehicle dealer had better financing deals. Fourth, the outside writeup was not at all accurate. Fifth, they have a terrible warranty of only 60 days. I would never recommend these liars to anyone. read more

Auto Lenders was better than any local option that I took the 3 hour drive from Baltimore to buy my car in Jersey. My salesman, Steve Price, came over to the Toms River location (close to my family's place) on his day off to help me with my purchase. Even the owner, Brad, had contacted me to help be part of my purchase. Aside from the great customer service, they actually have high quality used cars and very competitive pricing (generally cheaper than a similar car at CarMax). A 14 month NIGHTMARE from the purchase, financing, service, knowing the product they sell and finally trying to get reimbursed for the extended warranty. The car was traded in for a brand new car, more money, less interest rate and term with a lower payment due to the dealership, not the car. Nine months to get new windshield wipers. I had a great experience with the sales department. However, my haundi, 2009 with 30K on it has been in the shop more in the first month then with me. The brakes failed and almost cause me to get into a serious accident, they had to redo the electrical, I had paint peel of off it in the first week, the whole ignition system had to be replaced because my key stopped working and the TPMS light for tire pressure is always on and they can't figure out why. The car is covered under the extended warranty that I purchased. They gave me a rental car once which died on me and then I decided not to take a rental car from them from that point on. The manager of the service center, Chris, is very rude and unhelpful. He told me I had to wait a week to get an appointment to get my brakes fixed and to try not to drive the car. I had to go over his head to have the car towed there because he actually wanted me to drive there with no brakes! Stay away from the Auto Lenders in Toms River! read more
