Let me start by saying that I have lived in Norther VA since 1998, have always done all of my regular maintenance, and have ALMOST ALWAYS disappointed when forced to take my vehicles to a shop. My vehicle had and A/C issue; cold air while driving and warm air when stopped. I read several reviews of different shops and avoided the ones that previously failed me. This shop had been around for many years and people kept mentioning honesty. They set up an appointment and my wife was greeted politely. They had the truck all day but I knew that they had to reproduce what I observed, draw out all the refrigerant, add leak detector, and recharge the system. They did not find any leaks but kept it 1/2 more day to see if a leak was detected. The vehicle was cooling beautifully. The technician called me and explained the diagnosis that was done. They could suspect the compressor but it was cooling very well; likewise with the fan. Basically there is nothing to fix! The only change they made was to add 1lb of refrigerant. I appreciate the honesty of this shop. Many could and would have scammed me out of a big repair. Although I don't like taking my vehicles to shops, I will trust this one when the need arises again. read more

Before I bought my 2007 Mercedes C230 Sport in 2019, I requested the the dealership to allow an independent Mechanic, do a full Pre-Purchase inspection, this allowed me to find out all of the problems with the car, as well get 4 brand new tires from the dealer and better negotiated price on the car. Ever since, I have brought the car to Champion Auto, now the car is in an immaculate, the team at Champion Auto Repair are extremely competent, they do an honest, quality, professional on your car. Reasonable, responsive, professional as always for over 30 years. Old owner Rudy is gone but some employees still there AND new owners are just as friendly! Paid for them to fix some squeaky breaks and supposedly weld a ratting heat shield. Both noises are still present. Also, woof, the location/access/parking for this place makes it a real pain. -- In response to the sassy business owner comments: I posted the review later, yes, as I don't have time to write reviews all day, but the referenced issues were still present on the day of pickup. I was not complaining about the location to the business. I was reviewing the experience from a holistic perspective so other Yelpers would know what my personal opinion and experience are, which is a legitimate thing to do on a review site. Probably one of the best auto shops (if not the best) we found in the northern VA area. Our car had a check engine light so we ran the obd scanner and concluded to have the thermostat replaced. Champion gave us the best quote, $189 for parts and labor. Other auto shops quoted us up to $700. Crazy how others can charge that much to replace a $50 part. The service is great. They did the work correctly and timely. They even installed a new hose no extra charge. Plus it was really easy to coordinate with them as they have really friendly staff. Added bonus: they do not try to upsell you. It was very refreshing to deal with an auto shop without all the upsell. They really deserve all their 5 star reviews. From the moment you drop your car off, until you pick it up, Champion does everything they can to make sure your vehicle is taken care of. They call with questions, options and listen to your concerns. What they WON'T do is try to upsell you with "fuel intake service" or install filters that you just replaced a month ago. I had the following services done at this place - 1. 4 Wheel Alignment 2. Fuel Induction Service 3. Coolant Flush 4. Spark plug replacement on V6 - included replacing PCV valve I called around a few places and decided to give these guys a try as they took the time to explain the quote and the services covered in the quote. Most shops I called did that actually and even though these guys weren't the lowest quote, I took the vehicle to them as I could tell they are not double billing. For e.g. not charging extra labor for replacing a part when another service already includes getting to the area of the manifold/engine. They weren't the most expensive either by far. Anyhow, in the end - they honored a Yelp discount as well and I am glad I took the car to them. Clearly, these are extremely reasonable people and have a good eye on their work. If you are a person with little or no mechanical skills any car repair becomes an anxious event. Now, add in a factor of being on an 8 month road trip, being a stranger in a new town and the stakes are even higher. I had already wasted an entire day at a Vermont Toyota dealer only to be told they did not have the part needed and if I waited 4 days for its arrival, they would not have time to fix my Toyota Camry. I called 3 shops in the Maryland/Washington D.C. area. The first shop, straight out said they didn't have time to repair it. I left 2 voice messages and Jovanny from Champion Auto Repair called me back and asked me to come to the shop for an assessment. When I arrived, Rudy Tassara, the owner of Champion Auto Repair, determined the parts that were needed and had them ordered. Because I would have to stay the night, Jovanny recommended the closest hotel to the repair shop and offered me transportation to and from the hotel. What repair shop offers that service? That level of superb customer care and compassion simply doesn't exist except at Champion Auto Repair!! I checked into the hotel, dropped my property off and drove to the shop. Jovanny drove me back to my hotel. The price quote for the work was fair and competitive. I had to have a driver's front headlight assembly replaced, my passenger's side front fog light replaced (due to it being displaced by a loose semi's mud flap hitting my car) and the plastic under pan of my car replaced due to damage from hitting a deer. In addition to the superior customer service, Rudy also put my vehicle into the shop overnight to protect my Trek road bike from any potential damage/theft. Champion Auto Repair is an excellent repair shop and they tower head and shoulders over the average shop by providing superior customer service, a ride to and from my hotel and the care and compassion rarely seen in this industry. For those reasons, I rate them 5 stars and highly recommend doing business with Rudy Tassara at Champion Auto Repair. I own a 2009 Toyota Prius with over 210K miles on odometer and encountered an issue with ABS Actuator which lead me to the amazing team at Champion. After reviewing google and yelp reviews, I traveled from Bowie, MD to Sterling, VA and you all know the distance but it was worth each mile. Their honestly, knowledge, responsiveness, courtesy, and prices can't be matched. I had my ABS Actuator, brake switch, front struts, and rear brake shoes replaced and received a complete tune up and hybrid battery was serviced. My car is running like new. Very few Auto Repair shops care for their customers. This place felt like one right from the start. They take time to communicate all issues and possible solutions. While waiting for my car repair I heard the owner talk to another customer on how due to the Auto Repair shop fault some part broke and they have ordered it and will cover the repairs themselves for that part. CAR was referred to me by a friend of mine. I have a 2010 Honda Pilot with 167k miles on it. After a long time of deliberating and my wife telling me to ask for help, I decided to look into a mechanic in the area to help me get my 1970 C10, 4 on the floor, 305 I've been working on for a few years back to running. I found you Champions Auto on yelp and google and really like the shop reviews and the video truly help. A little while ago I needed to change out the ignition coil. After this repair it started backfiring extremely loud, I live in a suburb in Herndon so obviously my neighbors were not happy. I then changed out the carburetor and attempted to adjust the timing (living in the burbs now I do not have access to the proper tools). I went to try starting it after adjusting the timing and the battery was dead. I looked to this shop to tow the truck from my house and bring her back to life for me. I have to say, she had been a sitting for 6+ months while I've been working on her. She needed a lot, as do all older vehicles, just wanted to get her back to running so I can get back to restoring her. Let me tell you, Rudy and his crew came through!! Rudy called me immediately to thank me for bringing my truck to a Chevy guy. He also called me every step of the way to verify the progress and authorize any and everything, always thanking me for being patient. I moved to Herndon last year and was looking for avreliable auto repair service. I bring all my cars here. My daughter's car had starting problem and she got a new starter installed from some other shop where they charged her a lot and issue still came back. I brought it to Champion and Rudy instead of making her to do diagnostic and make some easy money, gave us good advice and told us to bring ythe car back only when it happened again. At 61 yrs of age I can honesty say that I have been taken advantage of and price gouged more times than I would like to admit. I had recently had tires put on my car and was given an inspection report naming a little over $4000 in repairs that were needed. It is a 15yr old Kia with less than 120K miles. I am struggling financially and freaked out. I contacted Rudy and he had me bring in my car for them to give me a second opinion. I am so very grateful to him and his mechanic. They told me that only 1 of the repairs were necessary and that my cabin filter did need replacing. Rudy's honesty and integrity just radiated from him.
