I've always had really good service here and they do a good job of telling me when I don't need to do extra services. The few times that I have try to DIY it with my family, I've regretted it because it ended up costing me more in the long run due to lower quality skills that carried consequences. Lesson learned? I've had a couple good experiences here, but in July 2025 I was taken advantage of as an older woman who doesn't know a lot about cars. I needed front brakes on my 2012 Subaru outback, but following their check they called at ~5pm & said I needed new pads, AND rotors, AND calipers on both front AND back brakes! (despite rear pads being 60% good, they made up a story about "corroded calipers", & said I need everything replaced in the rear too- $2k total b/c they added a few other items that I doubt I needed either in hindsight.) I wearily told them they could replace everything in the front, but not the rear. I left a message early the next morning saying to not do the front job front either after talking to my son, but they had already "stayed late" the night before to do it. I then took my car to Subaru and was told I did not need rotors or calipers in the front, and nothing was needed in the rear brakes. Auto Select was going to charge me ~$1,200 but reduced it a bit when I complained that they should not have done ANYTHING because I called back telling them not to the next AM. I am extremely disappointed in them and will never return. Beware of trusting them yourself!! read more

I have been getting my vehicles serviced here for a few years. They are an honest business.

Well, I don't know when this city boy will get to head up this way again (even though the people and beer are great and Central Wisconsin's greenery and blue lakes are beautiful in the summer), but I thought I ought to dedicate my first ever Yelp review to the helpful and honest staff here, especially Doug, who was the guy in charge of taking care of my car. To cut a long story short, my car got stuck in a snowstorm here in December (the same storm in which the Metrodome's roof collapsed), and I ruined my transmission trying to get out of a snowbank. I then considered giving up and sending my car to the junkyard--but fortuitously, AAA recommended that I get my car towed to the Auto Select here. Auto Select was able to get me a lower price on a replacement transmission than what was on the initial quote, which was already reasonably priced. On top of that, they replaced a burnt-out bulb on the dashboard panel while I was in California visiting family over the holidays. Replacing bulbs is something I normally do myself, but in this case, it wasn't as simple as I thought it should be, and was really annoying the hell out of me. Finally, Auto Select garaged the car for me for a couple of weeks, until I was back in Chicago and free to take a day-long bus/train ride up to the Point, where the car was ready and waiting for me. The transmission has since been running smoothly, and my car has a new lease on life. They treated an outsider like me very well in my time of need, and I have no reason to believe that they would treat the locals any differently. If I lived in the Stevens Point area in Central Wisconsin and needed car service, I would certainly trust my car with the folks here. read more

This place got me in on a Fri afternoon when I had a pretty severe leak from my rear axle. It was good I didn't have to wait for this repair. They gave me a ride to my place, got the parts, extracted a bolt, did the repairs and picked me up. I am confident the flat rate they charge for this would have been more expensive had they charged by the hour. The tech let me know (I asked) what it took to do this repair...it was pretty involved. This seems to be a no-b.s. shop and they seem to want to keep my vehicle on the road as long as I do. In my experience, no shop is ever perfect (nor am I); but this place has my business b/c of their professionalism and customer service. read more

This is my first time writing a review but I felt truly compelled to do so. Auto Select South was terrific. My car broke down during very cold weather (on a Wednesday) and I had doctors appointment that could not be missed on a Friday morning. I had been meaning to leave a review for Auto Select for ages, as they have always treated us well, but after today I felt I had to. Last night my alternator went out. I went to the parts store, bought a new one and a serpentine belt. However its negative 15 degrees out and we couldn't wait for it to warm up to get my truck up and running. Called Auto Select this morning, asked if they had time. They said they were fairly busy, but to drop it off and they'd squeeze it in. Three hours later, my truck was ready and at a very reasonable price for labor. Last winter, my wife hit a curb and popped her tire off the rim. They were able to get it put back on for a minimal charge - which they luckily didn't have her pay right away because she didn't have her wallet on her. We've always been very impressed with Auto Select, and while we typically do our own work on our cars, they are always there for us if something is beyond our skills or schedule. read more

Would have given a 0 star rating if it were possible. I took my vehicle in for a diagnosis, after two days they told me my car was in good repair. Two weeks later, I noticed that it was leaking a combination of both oil and transmission fluid. They are incompetent and inexperienced because I took it into another shop and they found the root issue in a matter of minutes. They still thought they were deserving of the ridiculous diagnosis fee they billed me. My best interest is in the consumer so be aware folks! I had bought tires from them that didn't last, but when I went back to them about the matter, they were very good. Gave me credit on the old ones, sold me tires which seem great. Staff was very friendly and worked to be competitive in their prices. read more

Very poor customer service. We went in to get tires put on one of our vehicles, they told is it would take about an hour. 2 hours plus later it was finally done. The workers were very rude and when we got there we waited 15 minutes for someone to even help us, everyone was outside smoking. Will not be going back! read more

I went to Auto Select in February of 2014 and bought 4 new tires. Then again in April to have an oil leak from my crank seal fixed. In June 2014 one of the tires went flat for no visible reason at all and wasn't repairable and even though they told me my tires were guaranteed they refused to cover it. Then January of 2015 my crank seal is pouring out oil again and destroyed all of my belts and they are willing to pay for the crank seal but the manager personally made the decision not to cover the damage their mistake caused even when they agree it is all 100% their fault. I(disabled army vet) am now out $500 more dollars because they don't feel like honoring a peace of mind warranty. Their manager personally chose not to do what's right by the customer! They caused $500 in damage to everything under my timing belt cover and had the option to screw me over or not and now I have no car until I come up with the money. Peace of mind warranty?
