This place used to be great but hired Micheal and prices are higher than BMW. That means it is a rip off.

These guys are the best. I was moving from Ann Arbor to California and needed to get my timing belt replaced. I called (literally) the day before I was leaving for my road trip. They got me in the next morning and my car was good to go by the time I got off work that same day. They are also honest and one of the few places in Ann Arbor that adhere to mechanical standards. The work-hour standard for a timing belt is 2.5 hours. I called over a dozen other places in Ann Arbor and got estimates from 3 hours up to 7 hours! Bernard told me that they would only charge according to the standard and that "if it takes longer, that's our problem, not yours." I made it to California safely and I owe it to these guys. I brought my car to autobahn to get front brakes, before I brought it in I addressed with Bernard that they were Volkswagen certified parts he verified that is what he uses in his shop. I went to pick up my car at the end of the day to find out there was a brake light on my dash that was not there before- when I brought it up to Bernard he said that the wire must of snapped because they were old. I was not happy at all. I took my car and went to another shop to have them look at it to fix the issues. I was then told that they were not certified parts and the brake light was caused by the carelessness and the connector pins were damaged. I called Brenard and addressed the issues- I told him that we can go two ways I will pay for 100% the parts but no labor or report to the BBB, he said he would call me back with what he would like to do. He never called me back so now we are here. I will never take my car back to this shop and I suggest you look for a new repair shop. read more

Horrible! Took the car for a diagnostic he plugged the scanner up and it took twenty minutes then he charged $120 for literally what took him twenty minutes! Completely a scam! Do not go here! Very professional and great service. I took the car in because it wouldn't start, it was the only place that was confident they could get me in before the weekend, everyone else was either booked or said maybe. I was actually driving to another mechanic that had said they might be able to get me in, when I called here and they said no problem so I turned around and drove here. The mechanic was very cool and even though he was working on another car, he went over to mine and tested the battery and figured out the problem. I saved myself probably 4 days of waiting because he took a quick look and fixed it. Not everyone has a quick fix, but I'm definitely going to be back. read more

Took my volvo there to repair a starting issue and had to bring it back on 3 seperate occasions. They kept the car over a week on every occasion and never repaired the starting issue. Charged me 500.00 to repair a part that was not the cause of the starting issue. Find another mechanic. read more

HORRIBLE! I was recommended this place because they worked on Audis! I had a check engine light on and occasionally my car would die and not restart! Code said I had a fuel pressure issue. They charged me $100 to plug in a code reader that AutoZone did for free! And they told me the same thing these guys did! Autobahn said I need a steering angle sensor but I could live without it since it was so expensive to replace! They said they tested the fuel pressure and it was fine! If it's fine, then why is the code still coming up that there's something wrong? After picking up my car and driving away, I noticed my cruise control wasn't working! I called and they said bring it back and we'll check it out! When I got there the owner looked obviously annoyed! He said he couldn't get to it right away because he had lots of other cars ahead of me! I told him it was working fine when I came in because I had used it on the highway and now it wasn't working so I'd appreciate it if he'd look at it and not make me wait until he'd finished all the other cars. I left the car parked in front of his office! When I got back three hours later the car was in the exact same spot. Hadn't been moved an inch. He said we checked out the car and we can't find anything wrong! Seriously? I said you inspected the steering column and now my cruise control won't work! Coincidence? He gave me attitude. I got upset and asked for my money back, we had words and he told me to get the fuck out of his office! The technician heard is arguing and came out to talk with me! He spent 20 minutes reinspecting the check engine light with a scanner and said you have a cruise control fault! I asked if the fault was there before and he said, "I don't know, I never checked that!" What the hell did I pay for then??? When I ask for the check engine light to be diagnosed, you'd think they'd do a proper job and go through all 18 subsystems of the check engine light with the scan tool! When a check engine light comes on its bit just for the engine! It could be anything on the car from mechanical to electrical. All the tech was told to do was check the fuel pressure and the traction control light that was on! I went to this repair shop because they specialized in German cars! I still had the fuel issue after I left! When the car is under normal operating temperatures and I turn off the engine the car will not restart until the motor has cooled off for about 20-30 minutes! I subsequently found after going to the dealer, which o hate doing, that the fuel pump inside the tank was going bad! But this guys said hey, it's fine! The cat left me stranded on the drive back to Chicago! I've never been treated by a repair shop like this a-hole treated me! They checked the steering angle sensor located "IN" the steering column and then my cruise control wouldn't work! If my right rear tire had fallen off afterword I would have said ok, not related at all. But to be so rude and adamant they had done nothing wrong and not even recheck or even look at the car when I brought it back was unbelievable. The technician was pretty cool! When I asked for my money back, he offered me a free oil change! I told him I appreciated that but I wanted nothing more to do with the owner ever again! I don't think refunding my $100 was a kit to ask for when all they did was plug in a scan tool and read a few codes! And not even do a complete job of that! Stay away from this place! They are NOT German car specialists! The recognition, though nice and trying to help, was not a German car specialist of any kind whatsoever! I did they same thing with a $50 code reader! I want to these guys for their "expertise" in diagnosing what these specific codes meant! read more

I own a 2009 Volkswagen GTI. I try to do most of the work on my own car, but I had an issue with the rear rotors and Bernard was able to fix it at a very reasonable price. I have been taking all my cars to Bernard of Autobahn for at least 5 years or more now. Bernard is honest and can troubleshoot quickly. He also fixes all the problems within a day. If I have to leave my car overnight, he will take me home and bring me back the next day to pick up my car. Today, I had a blown tire on my BMW downtown and called him. He was there in 15 min to help me. He removed the wheel, brought it back to his shop. Then he went out and got the right size tire, put it on the wheel, and brought it back to my car downtown and installed the wheel back on my car!! He did all these in less than one hour!! This is service at its best!! You can't get service like this from anyone in town. Not even AAA!! Whether you have an import or a local, I would definitely recommend Bernard to anyone who needs a good mechanic. read more

SCAMMED. I brought my car here with a serious vibration issue, they charged me an hour of labor ($110) to tell me it was my differential and it needed to be replaced immediately for $1300. I called a few other places and describing my issue over the phone, got the same answer every time: it's the driveshaft. I called Autobahn back and asked them if they were sure it was the differential, the mechanic told me he was sure, and the owner tried to lock me into the repair saying quote "look, I wouldn't be trying to sell you so hard if I wasn't 100% sure it's the differential" I decided not to fall for his scare tactic and ended up changing the drive shaft, the problem has been solved and the vibration is gone. Bernard was able to sucessfully troubleshoot the front brakes and clean out the master cylinder without costing me a whole bunch of $ in parts. Wow! A real gem for auto repair in Ann Arbor! Honest, Friendly, Accurate, Affordable and extremely Knowledgeable. I brought in my Mercedes-Benz E-Class. I didn't want to pay a fortune at the Mercedes Dealer, yet wanted top notch mechanics to work on my car. I totally found that with Corky and his staff of mechanics at Autobahn. For all the times I've been taken advantage of at auto repair shops throughout the years.... these guys made up for it and will be my only repair shop moving forward. I had a repair that could have cost hundreds of dollars to fix. I got a call back from Corky that it was simply a bolt that came loose and they re-assembled it for around $17 bucks! Wow, I could have easily been taken for a ride on this one.... but this totally proved their honesty about what was wrong and their decency to only charge a nominal fee! And they discovered a clamp that was not secure on some new brake pads that had been recently installed by another shop. It was just about to let my brake pad fall out! They secured that too! Wow... hard to find guys like this anymore, these days! I certainly understand that not every repair issue has this outcome.... but I guarantee these guys will be straight with you about the problem, give you the best possible price and do a great job fixing it for you. Plus they provided me a ride back home (& back) while it was in the shop. Corky (the head manager) was one of the kindest people I have met in years.
