I have a 2004 VW Toureg and was tired of paying premium prices for service work at the dealership. I had a loud whinning coming from the lower engine and at first thought it was transmission. After calling Aotobahn and cofirming that they should be able to determine the problem within the minimum 30 minute diagnosis, I took the vehicle in. Within 1 hour, Sebastian called me back, and gave me the good new that it was not transmission, but a bad alternator. He then gave me estimated cost for the repair. Upon completion of the service, I received the invoice for significantly less than what I had agreed to. It took less time than the recommended labor hours and I benefited from their efficiency!! What a pleasant surprise. I now have a mechanic who I can trust and rely on...........a necessity for those of us who cannot do it ourself and own cars that are beyond the warranty period. I was having trouble starting (intermittent) and the car was losing power to certain areas as it was falling below the voltage thresholds that the car requires to power the respective system. What I just described above is what I learned from Sebastian today as he took me back into the garage and explained to me (and showed me) the situation with my X2. We bought an old used BMW and It had a check engine light on and the front and back windows on the driver side didn't roll up. A friend referred us to Autobahn motorwerks, so the next day after the purchase of our new used BMW we brought in to get the windows fixed, and to see what else the car needed. To make a long story short, They charged me $1200 for the windows and a pipe that was leaking. The also said that the car was shaking and to get that fixed it would cost close to $500 and that we can do that later down the road. After I paid them $1200 dollars, my fiancé drove the car home and noticed that the check engine light came back on and that the car would rev up when it changed gears. I drove the car right away and noticed the same thing. Grace took the car back to the Autobon Motorwerks and owner. /mechanic said that most likely it's the transmission and to sale the car. What! As the experts why didn't they find out about the transmission before we paid the $1200? they said they drove the car and didn't find anything wrong. We drove the Car home from their shop and we noticed it right away! We know nothing about cars and we knew something was wrong! And talking to other shops they said they would of checked the transmission because with most older cars that is one of the most expensive thing to fix. I talked to the wife who answers the phone and spoke with the owner / mechanic and they basically had no answers for me. They said that they will charge us $200 more to check the transmission when they should of done that first place. I would not have paid the $1200, if I had known about the transmission! They are the experts in fixing BMW'S and to find out what's wrong with the car. We almost had them fix the shaking of the car! Thank god we found out before we paid them another $500. If you are looking for a BMW shop I would take it somewhere else. Or get a second opinion. I do not think they are bad people. They were both very nice. I think what they did was incompetent and unprofessional. read more

I'd been taking my BMW to the local dealership and while they did a good job they are very expensive. I was looking for a BMW shop that did a good job and was affordable. I got that with Autobahn Motorwerks! Sebastian is very passionate about his business, you can tell. The first time I stopped in he took a look at my breaks and talked to me about their squealing. He was very through both in his assessment of the brakes and his description of what was happening with them...no charge. I recently took it in to have the headlamp bulbs replaced. Additionally he polished up my lights for me, no charge. While he had the car he put it up on the rack and gave me a free inspection, something the dealership usually charges for. He found a couple minor things which he showed my husband and I. He then explained what was going on in detail. I asked him for a quote which he provided, again a very reasonable price. I purchased a e39 540i a couple months ago. After doing a bunch of research, I decided to go with Autobahn Motorwerks for the pre purchase inspection and the subsequent repairs. Sebastian and Jason are fantastic and exceptionally knowledgeable. They are very cost conscious - this last time I brought it in, they assessed my concerns as seepage, and didn't merit any repairs at the moment. All I was billed for was perhaps a half a labor hour. They also gave me an assessment for a worst case scenario if it eventually did happen, with a sheet detailing the necessary repairs therein - very transparent, with exceptional prices. I would highly recommend them and plan on staying as a customer for a good long time. read more

Based on my experience these guys get 5 stars. They had previously repaired my wife's 2001 540i, and after almost a year there was another coolant leak. They took the time to get to the bottom of it. The replacement surge tank had a crack. Since it was installed by them originally they warrantied it no question asked. Stand up character and no funny business. Came to autobahn with what I feared could be an expensive fix on my 2006 R350. Rather than digging in, Sebastian (the owner) diagnosed a key failure.
