I can not speak highly enough about this company and Todd and Dave at Stuttgart. I had a Porsche 911 delivered to them today for a PPI. I really wanted this car. They knew it. They started the inspection and stopped it after finding metal and timing chain plastic in the oil filter. Not only did they save me $25k in the engine rebuild I would have had to do, they charged me only for parts and the labor they had into it. The air conditioning has not worked in the 12 years we've owned our 1989 Carrera. The shop that regularly handles maintenance and repairs for our garage queen, does not work on A/C systems. I called Stuttgart and scheduled an appointment. The diagnosis was not good and expensive (you get used to the latter with a garage queen). I was warned I would get "coolish" air at best by Todd. The lack of A/C had become an irritant for my wife and I decided to proceed with the repair. There was an additional glitch after the initial repair that added to the already expensive repair. BTW, after checking sources, I learned the price was commensurate with the work performed. I was thrilled when I picked up the queen and found "cold" air blasting through the vents. Stuttgart delivered better than expected. I would not hesitate returning to Stuttgart in the future. read more

I've had my 2002 BMW 330ci repaired at Stuttgart for years. They've always been very helpful & honest. As to the honesty part...I've done a ton of maintenance on my car - the type of work 98% of people would never attempt...replacing bushings & bearings - water pump - fuel pump...you get the idea. My point is - I usually have a very good idea what's wrong with my car when I bring it to Stuttgart. I've never felt I was being lied to...ever. Also, for several years (until they got to know me) they knew nothing about my skill & experience related to working on my BMW. My most frequent Stuttgart visit is to pay Roy (BMW tech) for his professional diagnosis before I go fixing something that didn't need fixing. Todd & David always go out of their way to help. David actually spent 3-5 minutes with me on the phone helping me diagnose a failing fuel pump. I wouldn't expect a shop to do that, but, it was an unusual circumstance. Because of the help David provided during that call I was able to repair my car (which had completely died at work due to that failed fuel pump). I saw another review mention that Stuttgart is sometimes more expensive than a BMW dealership...true. They are very good at what they do - and they charge a rate that takes care of their employees and reduces turnover. I've seen the same employees at Stuttgart for years. I met with Todd and Michael several years ago and was impressed with them although I selected another shop as they were 30-45 minutes from my home. I scheduled a 9:30AM appointment on 7/7/16 to re-acquaint myself with them and give me an estimate on providing an estimate on 9 or 10 or maintenance items I had identified on my 1987 Carerra 3.2. I called Todd that morning to tell him that traffic was heavy and I might be up to 15 minutes late. During the call , he informed me that they would need my car for 1-2 days to provide an estimate. I expressed my concern as they never mentioned this before to give me the opportunity to arrange a ride home or even rent a car. I told him I had a list of specific items and Matrix Integrated had identified these items in one hour while I waited. In spite of this conversation, I drove to their shop and provided Todd a list of the items I wanted to be addressed. I asked him why we had scheduled a 9:30AM appointment if they wanted my car for 1-2 days. As a consolation, he finally said they could provide a preliminary estimate of these items if I could leave the car with them for 3 or so hours. Instead, I left him my list and asked him to provide his best estimate by e-mail as I had other commitments. I got the estimate and it was not unreasonable but was caveated and only addressed 75% of the items (to be expected). I ended up taking my car to Matrix Integrated on Macadam Ave. as Bryan Farley and the whole team was very customer friendly and made me feel welcome. George Hennessey, their chief mechanic on air cooled Porsches is a "stud", perhaps the best I have dealt with in 35 years. They did a great job on my car and they are now my go-to shop. I do not feel I could do business with Stuttgart Autotech as I found them to have a false sense of self-importance, placing their time and convenience far above mine. They acted like they were doing me a favor by working on my car. I consider this incredibly arrogant behavior and wonder how they would treat me if I really needed something repaired. (PS- My 1987 Carerra is in near showroom condition and these were routine items that had built up over time. We are not talking about them working on an old neglected car). My advice is to go see the guys at Matrix Integrated if you want top quality customer service and technical expertise. read more

Never again. I could've had a nice vacation in Europe for what was supposed to be an oil change. Of course during the "complimentary safety inspection" the top malfunctioned for the first time, a fan wasn't working and I needed a new violent cap. The coolant cap blew off the minute I picked up the car, in their parking lot, the top wouldn't close and the staff was RUDE. It was almost $2000 later (not including labor) that I got my Porsche back. There are so many other honest shops to take your car to - avoid this shop. Horrible and out to make money. read more

I just brought in my newly purchased used 2011 BMW 281i for routine maintenance, including a 60k tune up which requires a spark plug change which would have run me about $300. They realized the plugs were recently replaced and did not charge me to change them even though they could have and I would have been none the wiser. I really wanted them to be my local shop because they're convenient. I stopped by to get some prices for the 40K on my VW since the dealer service is no longer covered. The staff was friendly and the shop was clean. However, price comparison makes their charges insulting to my intelligence. VW DSG Transmission Service: 1. Hillside Imports $260 2. Herzog Meier $300 3. Armstrong $340 4. STUTTGART $500 Really? $500? It's unusual for a small shop to be nearly double the price of a dealer, let alone two of them. There is no way this shop can justify these prices. Yes, you're located in LO. Yes, you have slightly higher property taxes. However, I do not make enough money to throw it away at your overpriced rates. No wonder Hillside has the best rep in Portland for non-dealer VW/Audi shop. The people at this shop don't know anything about German cars. I brought in my MK5 VW GTI with a check engine light on. They told me the problem were the spark plugs for which I paid over $200 to get replaced, then the light came back on with the same code, then they told me it was carbon built up in the intake valves, they charged me $330 more. Then the light came back on (yes, again!) and they said they would have to replace the fuel injector and wanted to charge me $500 more. At this point I was pissed, I asked them if they were sure it was the injector and they said "no" they literally were guessing the problem. How pathetic! Plus they broke my FSI engine cover (which they replaced) c'mon I paid them over $500 bucks for nothing, and of course they wouldn't refund cos they did work on it. I took my car to the VW dealership and the problem wasn't even the injector, it was a rocker that was broken, they replaced it and boom! No more check engine light. Piece of cake for certified VW mechanics. If you want your German car to be checked by clowns then this is your shop. read more
