George and his team at Madness Motorworks are absolutely the best place to take your Mini if it's needing a repair. They clearly take a lot of pride and integrity in the good work that they do. I cannot recommend them enough. Late last week I noticed my Mini Cooper was producing steam under the hood when I drove it. I called Madness Motorworks over the weekend and left a pretty frantic voicemail about the issue. Being someone who is totally clueless when it comes to car problems and mechanical issues, it can feel really helpless and be incredibly intimidating when you have to take your car into a shop. I chose Madness Motorworks based on the glowing reviews and I couldn't be more happy with that decision. George called me back first thing Monday morning and had me walk him through some of the issues I was having. He was able to see my car two days later. Dropping off my car was a really easy process. I wasn't able to bring my car to the business until after they were closed, but it was super simple to park my car in their lot and leave my keys in a secure dropbox attached to their building. I felt totally safe and comfortable leaving my car there and really appreciated the option of doing a contactless drop off in the midst of the pandemic. I got a call from George midday after he began working on my Mini. Before getting into anything, he asked me how familiar I was with cars and mechanics. When I told him I didn't know anything, he said "great, no worries! Just wanted to get a baseline of your knowledge so that I can explain things to you!" And that's exactly what he did. He took his time walking me through every single issue (and there were A LOT!) and even explained each one with examples. He took his time and answered all of my questions and never once made me feel rushed. Again, being totally ignorant to these types of issues, I have been treated pretty poorly by auto-shop employees in the past. This was unlike any of those experiences. George treated me with respect and made sure that I was totally understanding of all of the issues. He even laid out the order of importance of the work and never made me feel pressured to do anything, instead providing suggestions and recommendations. He gave me an itemized quote and gave me time to consider what I wanted to do. I ended up agreeing to have George work on all of the issues he'd found. After the honesty and respect he'd shown me from the initial diagnostic, I trusted him to do good work on my car. And I was right. My car was done the very next day. I was able to pay over the phone and picked up my car that evening and it's been running great since! I cannot say enough about Madness Motorworks. If you have a Mini that needs work, especially if you're someone like me who is really intimidated of auto-repairs and worry about being taken advantage, look no further. Looking for a fast talking charlatan? Go no further. I took my BMW in to fix rough running, engine, rear brakes, valve cover (smelly) oil leak, fluid changes, dashboard lights that stay on and to install a power window switch I had been meaning to install. George's initial bill was roughly $2900. We talked about doing an additional $400 of work to probe the dash lights further. I specifically told him I replaced the entire TPMS several years ago but he installed a unnecessary major component. The final bill amounted to $4000; I only approved $3300. He said he'd polish the headlights for free but charged $99. My 11 year old helped me refinish that job when I got home to make the lights look worthwhile. Caveat emptor read more

I brought my 2009 Mini Cooper in to these guys because another shop couldn't figure out what was causing my "rough idle", and recommended them because they are Mini cooper specialists. Within minutes they diagnosed it as my throttle body. They got me on the schedule and were awesome about keeping me informed and fixing it in a timely manner. This was one of the first time a have gone to a shop and didn't feel pressured into getting other services done. They also kept me up to date on issues as the work was being done. I am the kind of person that likes it done right.... Out of the blue, I drive up with what I thought was a serious issue and asked them to look the car over thoroughly. They schooled me in my mistakes and gave an honest appraisal of what the car actually needed to have done. The legitimate issues they found were never even told to me by 3 other shops, yet the issues they clearly needing to be done for safety reasons alone. I followed their advice (key point here) and I am very pleased with the results. "Better than New" is a good description. I went to this repair shop recently for my 2009 Mini Cooper. The service was decent to start, they were able to replace my timing chain in a little over a week. They convinced me to do a few other small jobs that they deemed necessary so I ended up spending a few hundred dollars more than planned but it wasn't too excessive, other than needing to drain my recently changed oil and only using/selling particularly expensive oil to refill. The real annoyance came after as they scuffed my passenger-side rims and damaged a tire before they returned it to me. This was particularly annoying as the rims and tires were recent new upgrades to the car. As I wasn't originally expecting anything like this I didn't notice until a couple days after I received my car. (In that time the car was taken on 2 short drives and wasn't in any locations that could cause the damage, which I can prove with GPS tracking.) Pictures were also taken before the car was brought to the shop and when it was first noticed, showing the damage done. George, who I believe is the owner of Madness Motorworks, has claimed this was not their mistake due to trust in his employees and some security footage he watched but did not share. He was also out of town while the work was done on my car. Because they have been no help and are trying to pass the blame after causing damage to my car I am writing this review to share my experience. I bought my Mini in October of 2019 and was hopeful to find a solid shop and mechanic to work with. This isn't the place. I used them multiple times and decided after the last service I would not use them anymore. They have very poor if any, quality control and very little, if any, attention to detail. They are not the only shop in town that services Mini's or BMWs. You are better off going to the dealership or trying your luck at another shop that works on European car like AR Auto, Matrix Integrated, Stuggart Auto or Botta Moto Works. Read on to see why. I asked them to perform 3 major services, (1) fix the gap between my window and the weather seal (there was a visible gap), (2) fix the coolant leak, and (3) install the new clutch, flywheel, and differential. On all three services, it took multiple visits to get the job done right and I was charged for every visit. Window Issue: I explained the window issue and pointed it out. On the first visit, they charged me to "reprogram" my windows. A simple test drive or look at the window and it would have been obvious this didn't fix the issue. The car had to go back in. They charged me another $99 fee to find out that it was actually a broken window regulator. Total cost $905. Coolant leak: The coolant leak ended up being the water pipe from the water pump. They replace the pipe and thermostat. Drove the car home, puddle of coolant on the floor. Car goes back to them within a week. Turns out the pipe wasn't sealing correctly. On second inspection, they found corrosion on the water pump, sanded it down, sealed it and fixed the leak. First visit cost $861. Second visit, which blew my mind, cost me another $211. Total cost $1,072 to replace a water pipe! It took the "experts" 5.5 hours of labor to solve this leak. Why wasn't the corrosion identified when they removed the water pipe? How did they not notice it was still leaking after the first attempt? No quality control or attention to detail. Clutch Replacement: This last visit got my blood boiling and led to this review. I called the owner and asked him to source me a specific clutch, flywheel, and LSD. No call back. I ordered the parts myself and brought them in. On the first visit for this install, they installed all the parts and replaced the clutch slave cylinder. 16 hours of labor and some misc. parts totaled $2,197. Drove home and noticed a puddle of brake fluid under the car. Took the car back in, they said it was a bad slave cylinder and warrantied it. I drove across town to pick up the car. I pushed the clutch in, started it and the clutch didn't pop back up. Couldn't drive it. The next day they got it back in the shop and determined it was the clutch line going into the slave cylinder. They charged me $559 to replace the clutch line that wasn't leaking before this service. The most aggravating part is that they charged me another $99 diagnostic fee. Total cost for this install ended up being $2,755. I called and asked George to take the $99 diagnostic fee off the invoice. He dug his heels in and said no b/c they spent HOURS troubleshooting this leak. Sorry, but I am not buying it, these guys are supposed to be the Mini "experts". The leak was right at the slave cylinder. It was one of two things, the cylinder or the clutch line. Both are completely visible and accessible when the car is on a lift. With all the positive reviews I was hopeful to post one myself. Rarely do I leave one-star reviews, but this shop earned it. I paid them $4,732.90 over a 5 month period. In return I received poor quality work, poor customer service, and zero consideration for the multiple trips I had to make to get these issues resolved. I just don't trust their work or the longevity of their repairs. If you use this shop, I genuinely hope you have a better experience than I did. Good luck! read more

Don't go here, it's a joke and you're asking to be ripped off in my opinion. No part numbers on the receipt, I have no idea what work was truly done. There were many other problems with the service that I am not mentioning due to brevity. Poor rating was determined by the length of repair, exorbitant cost and extremely poor customer service. The owner was almost never there and instead, his repairman Roberto (see comments!) handled the business. Called off and on during business hours for two weeks only to be hung up on repeatedly and eventually reached a "this number is no longer available" at 9 in the morning. I assumed they went out of business until I saw a new review on yelp. Interestingly, if you're having trouble getting in contact with the owner, you should post a review! Madness Motorworks is the only place I'll take my 2011 Mini Countryman All4. I live on Mount Hood and the drive for the right service is well worth it. I took my Mini into the dealership because it was misfiring, mini told me my valve cover was bad. I took it to madness and they tested it and told my my valve cover was perfectly fine, it turns out it was the oil Mini Cooper uses that was making my engine misfire. I recently bought a 2003 MCS and needed some work. Both Jake and George were straight forward and explained all the work they would recommend. No pressure, simple, good advice and information to make my MCS run as it should. These guys went above and beyond my expectations and finished the work several hours before they had promised. They wanted me to have the car back as quickly as possible because they knew I needed it back and worked overtime to finish. After couple of days of driving my MCS, which now runs like a completely different car, I decided to pop the hood and check it out. I was surprised again by finding out they had done a modification for me at no charge that they had recommended before. Granted I dropped some cash on the repairs, but they didn't have to do what they did. My car bmw 525xi stopped on me and wont start and after spending couple of days at other workshop (who didnt have any clue) i brought the car to these guys. Ricardo was great help from the start and keep me updated on the progress and was able to diagnose the issue with intelligent battery controller whereas the other workshop didnt have any clue on what the issue was. 5 star ratings from my end. read more

As a brand new Mini Cooper owner, I couldn't have been luckier to gave Madness Motorworks in my area! These guys are great, very knowledgeable and excellent customer service. I recently purchased a 2016 Mini Cooper Countryman and wanted to do a few modifications. I drove down to Madness Motorworks after doing some research online through the Mini Cooper forums. Roberto was there and suggested I do a drop in filter. He ordered it and had placed it in my vehicle in a few hours. I then followed up in a few weeks and had a cold air intake installed. These guys do excellent work, and more importantly, they are QUICK and HONEST! George suggested a few other mods that I will be definitely doing in the next few months, that guy knows everything when it comes to Mini Coopers. I plan on coming here to get my service done as soon as my warranty expires. read more

They charge oil change way high than the MINI 4S. They didnt inform me that The oil is only good for 6000 miles while i can get better oil that run up to 15000 miles from MINi dealer. Be careful for the tricks. read more

My car was checked out well and they found that my air filter was very dirty and replaced it. Worst interaction I have had with a Mini related business (rude/unknowledgeable). I have heard GREAT things about Madness Motorworks by friends but sadly when trying to purchase some parts I was unable to get any answers to very basic specification questions. I called multiple times (Yes I left a voicemail) even emailed. I was finally able to contact someone via their message chat service and despite me doing my best to be patient was left without any answers (yes I asked who else might know). Here is a quote of the last interaction. "I'm not quite sure what your cramping on. Buy the injectors from us and you get the right ones." I'm sure the in-person mechanic services are good but I would stay far away from their online parts servces. Tells people to buy the products but has NO knowledge of any specifications. read more

I wanted to max the handling of my 2009 Mini Cooper S, take it to the track once in a while. There are many outlets for Mini parts and service, but I am only blocks from Madness Motorworks. Parts Madness sells are well reputed so I met with George and he laid out a package of their lowering performance springs, Koni shocks and their 22mm adjustable sway bar, as well as poly motor mount inserts. I cannot believe the difference! My car handles like a dream, flat in and out of corners, not too bumpy but smooth and sticky, the stance is not too low but looks awesome. Roberto was great too- George was out of town and Roberto answered lots of questions I had as a newbie to Minis. I've taken cars to George at Madness for upgrades for the past 8 years - a Mini S, a Volvo C30, and now a BMW 1M. His service has always been first-rate and done on time, his in-shop-developed parts are great quality, and his advice has always been spot-on. Most recently he installed an oil catch can on my 1M, and adapted the part I had purchased for factory-like fit, function, and appearance - a much better job than the OCC vendor's recommended method. Reliability is his top priority. I'd give him my highest recommendation for any Mini or BMW owner, for daily drivers or track cars. One of the reasons people are nervous about Mini Coopers, is finding someone to work on them. Rest assured this is the place to go if you have a Mini or even a BMW. Their labor rate is less than the dealership, and George has a way of explaining things so you can easily understand what is going on. I don't get the feeling they're trying to make a buck off me, they're just honest and looking out for me. The other guy Roberto, is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I even take my Ford there too. I have full confidence that when I take my cars there I'm not going to be taken advantage of. They also specialize in upgrades for the mini. Incredible customer service! I was looking to buy a pre-owned BMW at a local dealership but coming from out of town I needed a qualified mechanic for an independent inspection. The great folks at Madness made time on short notice to understand my needs and particular requests to schedule an inspection. Traveling from far away and with unexpected traffic I arrived after hours. They had personal plans that evening which they delayed to personally meet me at the dealership and perform a preliminary inspection to my great satisfaction. Very knowledgable and thorough. They went even further! They opened a slot the following day for a full inspection to meet my travel needs and never even charged me for the extra time and special customer care including the after hours trip to the dealership for the preliminary inspection. I wish I lived in the area because I would certainly be a repeat customer. The car, well that turned out to be excellent and their efforts to detect any issues played a role in my purchase decision. I had a brought in my mini for a transmission flush and left recieving much more than that. They discovered quite the handful of repairs that needed to be done and help me get them all taken care of in a timely manner without breaking the bank, too badly that is. Being an overly concerned driver they dealt with my random stop ins wonderfully, and i felt they treated me like family everytime. I had even got into an accident and they were my first stop because i knew they would point me in the right direction in getting my car fixed(which they did, and i appreciate that!) I sent my Daughter to get her transmission fluid changed and they told her she had problems with all kinds of things, they said they would up grade the on on board computer software then the car stopped running. They did everything they could to burn time. Flush the radiator because the water smelled funny, ext. She is a working student, and they took advantage of her. We should have checked the better business bureaus ( F ) report card before we went here. read more

I have been taking my mini to both the dealership and madness motorworks for years. And honestly, it can go either way, either place. I have had experiences at the dealership where stuff takes forever and in general I would rather support a local small business. But I have been told I need stuff that I don't need at Madness Motorworks. Specifically, brakes. I did not need them, but was told I did. I have had other experiences that were really great at MM. My last experience at the dealership went really well. I appreciate these guys, and the mechanic is great at MM. It's a bit of gamble always, it seems like with cars. Unfortunate, but true. read more
