I had transmission issues so I took it to the dealership. They told me I needed a whole transmission replacement. I took my car to ATC, and Lenin and crew noted my fluid was low due to a leak. They flushed the fluid and replaced the filter, and my troubles were fixed with the same transmission! Definitely recommend these folks. Lenin is great. read more

What a pleasant experience. I normally "review" reviews verses writing one but this one was worth it. Even with high reviews on Yelp, I approach with caution. I have been having. ATF issues and had my older model 2000 vehicle examined before by other mechanics, thought the issue was fixed, dished out money and nonetheless, I'm back at a transmission shop. Lenin and team were very professional, courteous, knowledgeable and explained everything in layman's terms so that I understood not only what the problem is but why the solution would help with the problem. Made an appt to get a service and while in the process of diagnosing the transmission during a test drive noticed 3rd was slipping a little and advised me not to service transmission cause doing so might lose 3rd gear completely. These folks run an honest and quality shop. They got recommended to me by another very reputable transmission repair place. Lennon, in particular, was great. Brought my truck in with what seemed like a difficult to reproduce transmission problem. (sporadically jumps to lower gears when driving at high speeds). After 2 days of looking it they called me up to let me know they did reproduce the problem but identified it as the turbo kicking in too early and not something related to the transmission. In my case, they offered free diagnosis so I'm picking my truck up and they're not charging me a cent. Also took the time to really explain the issue to me whereas a less reputable place would have just wanted to rebuild my transmission... They didn't actually get to do any work on my transmission so I can't speak to that, but a shop that can afford to operate like this puts their customers first and must know they're putting in quality work. I took my car in for a transmission issue that I was having that I couldn't get a clear answer on from other places. Lenin was so helpful and trustworthy I knew right away when I spoke to him that he was going to treat it right. I left the car at his shop around 10 AM and was called about 2:30 PM with the exact issue that was causing the problem with my transmission. I went to pick up the car and he didn't even want to charge me for the diagnostic and he even went as far as to show me the exact part in the back of the shop that was causing the issue with my transmission. I'm posting about a year later, that the job was done. My clutch went out on my 2016 Nissan versa at about 50,000 miles.. This review may be premature but I had an axle seal replaced today. Lennin and Andy correctly diagnosed the gear oil leak on my 5 speed Camry and quoted a reasonable price for repair including an OEM Toyota oil seal (my preference also). They fixed it and called me sooner than their original completion projection. They even topped off the gear oil with a good quality oil. They saved the old seal as I had requested. Maybe they should change their name as they also work on manual transmissions read more

They checked it out in about 2 hours and told me I actually had a coolant leak, they fixed it and had it ready the same day!! Having a dead tranny on your hands inspires a lot of varying emotions: Shock, panic, regret, you name it. Sometimes you get to feeling like you have no options when you're dealing with a problem that large. But one call in to Automatic was all it took. I talked it over with Mike & Ken & they sent a tow truck up to pick up my car. A few days later they called with the news. As it turns out, the problem was pretty minor after all -- something involving the bracket that attaches the transmission to my car breaking -- & it didn't wind up costing much to fix. I had absolutely convinced myself that the transmission was shot & I was going to have to sell my car for parts. SWEET RELIEF! Anyway, Mike & Ken were awesome. I had a terrible experience here, and I would never recommend this place. When I arrived for my appointment at 10:00, I stood around for half an hour waiting for someone to talk to me. Employees walked by numerous times, but no one greeted me. What is the point of making an appointment for 10:00 if the mechanics don't even look at your car until 2:00, and then only because you called them three times? I didn't get the car back until 4:00. And they misdiagnosed my problem. They told me I needed a new clutch and that it would cost $950. I said, "No thank you, I'm taking my car home now," and found another mechanic. It turns out I did not need a new clutch and the repairs were only $375. I'm sure Automatic Transmission would have been happy to replace a clutch that didn't need replacing so they could charge me an extra $600. A waste of time. I'm glad I didn't waste my money here. read more

Quick Tip: If you decide to have your car serviced here and don't want to deal with getting a ride to/from the here ask them to give you a ride to and from BART instead. About a year ago the transmission on my 2001 Toyota Avalon started slipping and giving me problems at about 110k miles. After the panic and shock of a transmission crapping out so unexpectedly, I started looking for a good, convenient shop to take it to. Long story short, I selected them after calling around and speaking to Ken. They're pretty far out there and no where near my home or work, but they conveniently were able to give me a ride to and from the Bart station. I asked Ken to match a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty that another shop had quoted me and he had no problem doing so. He told me that I would need to bring it back a year later to do a service and inspection. 14 months later (because who has time to follow up exactly a year later) I just took my car back for service and inspection. Once again I arrived when the shop opened and had them drop me off at Bart. I was pleasantly surprised when picking up my car. The service was only $98. I was totally expecting it to be in the $150 price range. Ken and his team are very professional, reasonably priced, and stand by their service. I would highly recommend their shop. read more

They gave me a quote of $1600 and allowed me to leave my car in their shop for 2 days, even though I did not use their service. I was able to tow my car in and out of their shop without much hassle from them. I really appreciate that kind of service. read more

Mike at Automatic Transmission Center was so helpful. I brought my car in with shifting problems that everyone said pointed to a transmission problem. I had a consult with Mike when I brought my car in, then left it with them overnight. It turned out to be a computer problem, sort of preliminary transmission problem. I was told this generally ran $1200. I bought the car used 4 years ago, but because of the year make and model Mike looked into any warranties for me. He called around to several dealerships in the area asking the questions I didn't know needed to be asked. He was even aware of an extended warranty that may apply for me. He was right, and my car can be fixed under warranty still. Even after finding this out, and knowing he wouldn't get the work, (the dealership would) Mike went above and beyond with this diagnosis. I am so thankful that he saved me the $1200.00. They will be getting all my future business. read more

Last November, our 1999 Subaru Legacy developed a vibration when accelerating and decelerating at 40 mph. We took it to several different mechanics for examination and none could figure out the problem. One said it was the brake rotors, another recommended replacing all the wheel rims, another said replace all the tires, another said the wheels need to be re-aligned, another suggested replacing the engine mounts. Apparently, none of these people knew what they were talking about. Finally, through a recommendation, our car was examined by the Automatic Transmission Center. They correctly diagnosed the problem as a the axle having excess play and the u-joints were rough. They replaced both front side axles and the drive shaft assembly. It was expensive, but well worth the nearly $1700. The car does not vibrate anymore. Both Ken and Mike were very helpful and patient diagnosing the problem and explaining to me the various issues. I would highly recommend them for drive train and transmission work. Additionally, they also do general auto maintenance. read more

Brought my car here on recommendation of my mechanic. Friendly and patient customer service, they did a free (and thorough) evaluation and confirmed what I and my other mechanics had feared. Absolutely no pressure to continue the work with them, gave me practical advice to lengthen usable life and options for if/when the trannny meets it's demise. They rebuild transmissions onsite, the shop seems busy and well organized, and the back and forth I had with Lenin leads me to believe they're on the more honest scale of transmission shops. Living in the East Bay, I was a little bit hesitant traveling all the say to San Francisco to get my car's transmission checked out, but I had heard good things. And I can now say the Automatic Transmission Center lived up to everything I had heard. I was immediately met by Lenin, who is extremely friendly and easy to relate to. I felt like a lot of my questions were really silly since I had no idea what I was talking about, but Lenin continuously reassured me and gave me very good, easy to understand answers. These guys are great guys. They know their stuff. I had them rebuild my transmission on my 2000 Saturn SW2 and it worked great. Then my car developed a problem that mimicked a transmission problem and I took it to a dealership repair facility who said it was a transmission issue. Mike at ATC took my car back, tested it, and found the exact problem that the dealership missed and should have caught, a bad EGR valve and had it fixed elsewhere than dealership which missed it. My rebuilt transmission was fine. ATC stands behind their work. They worked with me to get my car fixed even when it was not their fault. They have taken good care of me as a customer and I would do business with them again. They are an excellent business. read more

Transmission failure is generally not something one looks forward to, but this shop makes solving it as easy as possible. I called for a quote, got an appointment for the following day, and one day later my new transmission was installed! There were zero issues with the new unit and the work was good quality. Also, the shop owner took the time to show me what failed on my old transmission, and he replaced a couple of parts that were technically not part of the transmission, all at NO COST. Also the shop gave me a free inspection two weeks after the install. I was so impressed with the work, I had the techs there replace some wear items on my driveshaft during my inspection. Again I was treated cordially, and the work was done in an hour, on the spot. 5 stars plus! Also had another trans replaced here 2 years ago, it's still going strong and shifting smoothly. read more

This place is great! I took my car here when the shifter in my manual transmission got stuck in second gear. I had expected I would need some costly repair (clutch or transmission failure), but it turned out to be a simple fix: mysteriously, they found that a vacuum hose end nozzle (like the kind used for cleaning/detailing a car) had apparently been left near my engine at some service in the past, and had fallen such that it prevented the shifter from moving... woah. I was happy for the easy fix! The guys at ATC were friendly and easy to work with throughout the process, and we had a good laugh about it in the end! I went in for a diagnostic, because it felt like my transmission was slipping. It turned out to be my tires slipping...not my transmission! I asked if I needed a transmission service or anything. Lenin responded that it was in good shape with clear transmission fluid, and that it didn't need any service until it's scheduled maintenance in 20,000 miles. He wouldn't accept any payment for the work they did evaluating my car. A shop that tells me my car doesn't need any work...AND doesn't charge me anything to tell me that certainly deserves my trust. Mike and Ken were very kind and patient with me. I brought my car in on a referral to get my transmission inspected...for free! There was a slight troubling noise that in fact was coming from the tranny, but in the end, was no reason to take anything apart. I got some of the oil replaced and was sent on my way. I really liked the manners and non-rushing attitude here. They were very straightforward but it was also obvious that they are not interested in doing unnecessary work to make an extra buck. They were very adamant about proper maintenance to prevent the need to rebuild or replace. It's all about preventative care...now if only our government thought this way about healthcare! read more

These guys are a big rip-off I recommend no one to get there transmission done here I had a transmission installed for 1100 bucks and once I got it back within a couple of days I get on the freeway and my transmission cooler falls off and all my transmission oil leaks out and they tell me that they did not touch that part at all which is a lie because in order to get to the transmission they have to in order to change it so then I tell them what was wrong and they tell me not to tell the shop I got my transmission ordered from what happened so there are scam big rip off they get two thumbs down for me now my transmission is slipping the gears won't work correctly and they told me not to even come back they told me to get my new transmission sent elsewhere so if you feel that you're going to go to these people to get your car done I would recommend you not to!!!!! read more
