Came in for a new transmission, broken AC and a leaking tire. Was told it would be a week, which sounds good as that was every time line we were told from other places we called. A week goes by and the parts still weren't in, again I mean that's just shipping and it happens, can't really blame the shop. After a week and a half they install the new transmission, but said there was something wrong so they kept working on it. Another week goes by and they say they need to order ANOTHER trans. At this point we are very frustrated as we needed this vehicle back 3 weeks ago. But I mean who knows what is really going on so we just hang tight. Finally, a MONTH later, we get a text that the trans was replaced and good to go but they didn't have time to fully fix the ac. Didn't have time? You had it for a month and decided until the last day to look at the AC. They replaced the blower motor but said they would have to take the whole thing out and didn't have time for it, so it was ultimately a temporary fix for a full charge. After asking for a price break down he gave us $150 off. Woopie after a $7,500 ordeal that didn't feel sufficient. They then charged our card for the second half of our bill after we explicitly said "we do not authorize this charge" and we also don't remember saying they could save the card on file..... if that wasn't all enough to make us never come back we then find out the tire was never fixed after it went flat on the road a few days later. To which the guy says "looks like I forgot" !!! Now the AC stopped working because again it was never actually fixed in the first place. Truly unacceptable from start to finish. They clearly do not care about doing a good job and just want your money. He asked us multiple times to pay the remaining balance before we even picked up the vehicle or had any work done. Avoid at all costs.

They said I needed a new clutch and flywheel, and quoted $3,600, and wanted me to purchase the parts before schudling the service. Luckily I spent time asking other shops around town for quotes on this type of repair. Rene came back with the lowest quote by far. When I scheduled the repair, he did not ever request for me to prepurchase anything. I braced myself when Rene called me on the day of the repair. But to my surpise he said "we don't see anything wrong with this clutch". He test drove it, had another team member test drive it, and determined that any repair was unnecessary. I offered to pay him for the time and effort, but he would not charge me! In summary, Rene has earned my trust and will get all of my future repair business.

I had some elective work done this time: a PPE transmission pan and full servicing, plus a Baxter oil filter adapter. Unfortunately, PPE doesn't keep the Mojave's altered geometry and frame thickness in mind for their fitment chart because it flat-out doesn't fit. They could have just slapped it on like I asked because it **kind of** fits, but it either requires further machining or altering of the crossover pipe. Beyond that, it now lowers the pan slightly under the frame, which it doesn't do on the standard frame 3.6 pan. However, the flush was great; my truck shifts better than ever and legit feels brand new now. For the Baxter adapter, there's a little casting nodule left over from the factory's casting of the pug manifold; hacking it off is required for some, but not all. They asked me first and did a fantastic job. My oil was fresh--I run Mobil 1 Extended Performance and had less than 3,000 miles on it--so it wasn't about the oil change. It's about swapping the Pentastar's oil filter housing unit from an inferior cartridge-style filter with a twist-on cap (that has very demanding torque specs) to a metal twist-on filter. These are inarguably better, not only for your vehicle but for the environment, as the metal can be scrapped and the inside has less plastic. The difference in early start-up tick due to the dry start is night and day. I'm not in "tick failure," so it was such a quiet start-up that it was kind of shocking. Anyone who says the Baxter is snake oil probably ate Tide Pods, because it was the smoothest, most quiet start-up I've had since owning my truck. They installed it very quickly and charged me incredibly fairly. I can't say enough good things about Brake Force LLC!

I took a block in to be bored and honed by another shop in Portland. We agreed the owner/operator…read morewould do the work himself but an apprentice attempted the work and my perfect low miles Honda B16 block was ruined by a measurement error in setup. After a time consuming process, I managed to get another block out of California but it needed to be thoroughly examined and corrected beyond the bore/hone my original block required. That involved setting up for a line honing to check and measure the mains, minimally surfacing the deck to correct for lows between the cylinders and scratches, etc.. After talking to Ron and Ted at length, which they did not mind at all, I decided to have PER do the work. The knowledge level, shop arrangement and tidiness at PER were at another level. They did not flame any other machinists as the first place had. They actually complimented the guy that was going to do the work originally at the other shop, and several other machinists in the area. They were very receptive to all the specifications and manufacturer's specs that I gave them for pistons, rings, bearings, etc, and used them. They worked off production cards specifically printed by their software that detailed each machining job for my block and noted the specifications they achieved in each case. It was clear they were happy with the work because Ted talked me through the whole process as we went over the completed block and crankshaft. I ended up feeling confident in the replacement block for this 9K RPM track/street engine. While they were careful to note that some stains can not be removed by their cleaning machines, they managed to return the block to a near factory condition that I was unable to approach in a half hour of hot car wash pressure cleaning and scrubbing. They even offered me after hours pick up when they left a message to tell me it was ready, but after over 6 weeks wasted with the original error at the other company and acquisition of this hard to find block, I was anxious and drove right out. I am especially appreciative that Ted and Ron made the effort to help me with my schedule even though they are very busy. This is a shop that is sophisticated enough to organize multiple customer jobs in an efficient manner to keep their staff and machines humming. No need to remind them what they are doing for you or help identify your parts like some other shops I have been in. They carefully kept my parts and documentation clean and organized and together. Really, 5 stars isn't enough. Every shop makes mistakes, and it's the response that matters. Often though, people blame a shop for problems they create after the shop is done. These tend to be the biggest social media flamers while people without problems rarely write reviews. I didn't have any issues with PER and I suspect that errors are rare. I think if more happy customers wrote reviews, they would be more like mine. For a shop to get a 4 star or higher rating means that they have a great preponderance of happy customers, most not writing reviews at all.
