My car is in worse shape than before I brought it to them. The pic is of my steering wheel on a straight road after the second alignment they did to fix the first one they did wrong. I was told Monday that they would give me an estimate. I offered to wait for the estimate and the guy said everything to avoid giving me an estimate while I wait. He promised me it would be emailed in an hour to me. Today is Wednesday, still no estimate. They also adjusted all sorts of stuff in my car that I asked them not to touch. If I had to say something they're good at, I'd say they're really great at making lots of excuses. Since writing this review, the owner emailed me, refusing to take responsibility for his actions and blamed my car for him not being able to align it properly, saying that he doesn't know why my car is different from the other cars he aligns, rather than admitting he screwed up the job twice. read more

I went there today to have new rims I purchased online installed. Needless to say it did not work out. The guy said my tpms sensors weren't able to be transferred to my new rims said they were built into the rim. They wanted to charge me $50-75 each for new tpms sensors on top of $150 for the install and said it would take 2.5 - 3 hours while waiting. They assured me they work on high end cars and that they were correct and they were not trying to rip me off. They said my only options were to purchase new sensors or just put rubber valve stems in and not have a functioning tpms. I left and brought it to Discount Tire and they swapped over the sensors no problem, charged me $103 out the door and were done in 45 minutes with everything perfect. Someone over there needs to learn a few new things. read more

I went to Performance Chassis in Cary a couple of months ago to have them check my brakes and to get an estimate on replacing them. Simple enough, right? I was told it will take them a couple of hours to check out my car. I waited and waited 4 1/2 hours altogether. After the first 3 hours, when I asked how long more I have to wait, I was told "You can see we are busy, we'll get to your car when we can". Really? Finally I got sick and tired of waiting, approached my "adviser" to tell him I need my car back so I can leave, and was told that it will be done in 15 minutes. Same guy who told me off earlier. I was finally given an estimate of $1,253. What the ....? I supposedly not only needed front and rear rotors, I also needed lower control arms, part of the suspension system, and an alignment (for $80). Needless to say, I grabbed the estimate, and asked for my keys. The adviser then went on to say "I recommend getting this work done today as first it is not safe for you to drive this car because of faulty suspension, but you will also do more damage to the brakes". I told him I need to get other estimates and left. The next day, I stopped at three other places including a dealership, and at all three I was told that I only need front brake pads. I showed all of them the estimate I had received from Performance Chassis and I was told that they try to scam people all the time. The dealership manager even had my car back on the lift and had the suspension checked and told me that there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. I ended up fixing my brakes there for $140 and my car has been driving great since then. Don't even think about driving past these scam artists. Take your car to any where else but these guys, you'll be happy you did. read more

This time I just needed the front 2 tires replaced, but also asked for them to install some aftermarket bushings to improve the steering and handling of the car. Waited 20 minutes to talk to someone only to find out they lost my appointment. I made the appointment a week ago and called yesterday to confirm, but there's no record of it. My tires were delivered here, so this is the right place, and it's looking like a 3 hour wait on top of the 45 minute drive each way. After waiting 2.5 hours, the mechanic tells me the tire alignment is finished, but when he drove the car over a bump the alignment changed. According to my local mechanic, any place that does alignments is supposed to check for loose steering components *before* doing the alignment because if the tie rods or ball joints are defective there's no point in doing an alignment. So I may have spent $80 on an alignment and its a complete waste since it has to be re-done after fixing the steering components. Luckily I had the steering components inspected, and my regular mechanic says they're fine, which is strangely at odds with Performance, which is supposed to be more knowledgeable. I took the car back to Performance, and they did look at the wheels again for free, only this time the diagnosis is a bent wheel, which seems more likely. All in all, I don't think its worth it to drive all the way over there. I found a little country tire shop that has been fixing a couple of other tire-related issues on my other cars and they've been cheap, fast, and accurate, so there's no need. read more

Called Yesterday to get an estimate on control arm repair and I was told they were not able to give a quote right away as the guy who gives quotes was out for an hour or so but that he would call me back shortly. I never received a call back so I called back today and spoke with Mike and told him I called yesterday for an estimate and he said "oh yeah hold on" and then hung up the phone. Not how I would treat a new potential customer but I guess this is how it works here. I'll find another shop to do the work. read more

I went to Automotive Performance & Chassis for tire fitting and balancing, not mechanical work. Upon picking up my car they advised that two of the tires were faulty and that we needed to contact the tire supplier to organize replacements. The supplier had them recommended as an installer for their tires. It struck me as odd at the time that they didn't handle this issue with the supplier directly, but I went ahead and did it. After receiving a replacement pair sipped another pair i took the car back to them to have them fitted. They fitted the new tires (and I paid again) and sent the old tires home with us and simply said "you need to return them", which again I found unusual given they're a recommended installer, but went along with it. I then discovered that the supplier had sent UPS to pick up the faulty tires to Automotive Performance & Chassis, to be redirected by them to my private house without calling us, where they arrived unannounced to pick up the tires. Thankfully we were there to provide the tires. Immediately after the return of the car with the two new tires mounted we noticed a vibration in the steering that had not been there before. We called Automotive Performance & Chassis about it and they pointed to their service record suggesting that we had a bent rim and that was the culprit. So we kept driving for a couple of thousand miles. Yesterday I decided to take the car to get a wheel balance to a different place, in the hope that maybe something could be done. The guy points to both front wheels and shows us that the two front tires were mounted inside out (inside of the tire mounted to the outside of the rim, and the message on the side of the tire sidewalk clearly stating this). I couldn't believe it - this means the car has been unsafe to drive because the tires were mounted backwards. I took photos of this. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Automotive Performance & Chassis mostly due to unsafe practices in my experience, but also poor customer service. read more

If you present yourself as a professional, your word had better mean something. Hendrick Chevrolet Cary said they'd have four new Michelin Super Sport tires for my C7 Z51 Corvette in one week. I went in on the day/hour they advised, sadly they had not one tire for my car. Not only did the Corvette dealer have no Corvette tires, they couldn't find the time to call and wave me off before I wasted my time going there. I ordered said tires from TIRE RACK, they shipped 4 tires (for free) to Automotive Performance & Chassis (AP&C) in 2 days. On the 2nd day [AP&C] Nick moved things around to accommodate my schedule. One hour after arriving at AP&C Nick had all 4-tires professionally mounted, balanced and installed...and their pricing -- excellent! Between TIRE RACK and AP&C, I saved $400 from the quoted Hendrick Chevrolet price. I've been a "car guy" for 44-years, finding a speed shop staffed with professionals who "keep their word" is absolutely priceless. As noted by other reviewers, you should ignore the old comments here as this place apparently changed ownership back in 2016 I believe. Maybe 2015. I'm not sure why Yelp is reporting this closed. That may be an old report before the new ownership. Anyway: my personal experience with them in 2017 has been very positive. I've had them do tires, alignments, engine work etc. and they are very careful, thorough and do not recommend work that isn't needed. And work that is needed is performed well and their rates are better than average (I think). read more

Under new management in the last 6 months and making changes. Looks cleaner and staffing up some to meet demand. I have been taking my cars here for 5-6 years (BMW 528, Chrysler minivan) and was always impressed by how thorough they were. To be honest that sometimes resulted in repairs taking a little longer but I felt it was worth it. They know their way around performance cars and setup but they also kept my minivan in good shape too. Recommended for alignment and very capable all-around with fair prices. Wish they had loaner cars but they drop me off wherever I need to go. read more

The alignments I've had done here have always been incorrect. I've had several problems misdiagnosed. I was told a squealing noise was a defective power steering pump when it was actually the clutch throwout bearing. On another car, I was told an axle needed to be replaced as it was slinging grease everywhere. Took it somewhere else and found that the axle had already been replaced and it was old grease they were looking at. I've dealt with the owner several times and every interaction has been unpleasant and unprofessional. Steer clear.. pun intended. read more

First, I have all my tires mounted and balanced here. They don't damage the barrels and car guys that sweat the details, realize the importance here. Some of these old comments should be eliminated or ignored. Staff and attitudes have changed with the YEARS! As for engine/ suspension work, Nick and the crew have always given me the time required to explain any issues and invited me to put hands on the car to detail exactly any issue. They call me to detail and get any cost or work pre approved. I'm aware mechanical work is difficult and unpredictable and issues arise. Be smart and just leave the your car. If you have to wait, just be flexible. I can tell you about three other repair shops that have tried to rip me off and I know some of the issues I missed. After all, what do we learn when everything is easy the first time ? I had an older car in for tires and alignment and was unsatisfied with the result. I felt that one of the technicians had taken a short-cut because of rust and because the car was not a high-performance vehicle. I spoke with Nick, the shop lead, and Jim, one of the owners, who assured me that the work would be re-done to my satisfaction. And it was: Nick tracked down some hard-to-find parts and did the re-work himself. As the previous reviewer stated, this place has improved remarkably since my last visit a few years ago. Nick is really great -- friendly, flexible, great communications. I'm a bit of a fanatic about my vehicles but not equipped (or skilled) to do suspension or tire work. In this case I needed to replace the shocks and struts on my son's Jeep, and I was very specific about the parts I wanted to use. I ordered the parts online and brought them when we dropped off the Jeep, so I simply paid for the labor. (not many shops allow you to supply your own parts, by the way) The end result was a significant cost savings, compared to other places I contacted, and I got exactly the brand/model of shocks and struts I wanted. I haven't been in the waiting area but my son reports that it's very nice -- nice couch, TV, and free coffee/snacks. It's a bit hard to find, but worth the hunt. read more

I had repeated problems getting my tires balanced properly with a Colony Tire near my home. I knew Performance Chassis could fix it, and they did! They were willing to take the time to fix the problem, but also explain it to me, which I appreciated. I also had a problem with my appointment not being recorded properly but they handled it in a professional manner. I had some new tires and rims put on my car and after 3 different attempts from Ford and Colony still couldn't find anyone to get them balanced right. I asked a friend of mine with a Ferrari where was a good place to get this done and he recommended performance chassis. They did a great job balancing the tires finally and I've had them patch a few tires and replace 2 since then. I'm kind of glad I didn't look at the reviews on here before going, but my experience is they do great work at a reasonable price. read more

This place used to be called Hubcap Heaven. I used to order my tires off of Tirerack and have them shipped and installed here as they were a recommended installer for the area. Initially I was happy about the tires and how they were installed. However, the last couple times I went, once to get low profile tires and new springs installed, I was less than pleased. The tires were low profile and I was assured they would be installed correctly with no rim damage. Well I watched Mark and his co worker try to install the tires and they literally were using a crow bar of some sort to get the tires on. When I got the car back, the rims were gouged and scratched all along the edges from whatever tool he was using. To top it off as I was paying, the co worker decides to take my car for a "test" drive without even asking me. They had never done this previously so why now? Then when I drive the car over 60mph, there is a noticeable vibration form the steering column to which their response is that I would need an alignment. I got an alignment done at this place and still the vibration was there. When those tires wore off I decided to take it to Discount Tires, which matched Tirerack's pricing. When I got the car back, literally within 30min of dropping it off, the car rode like it was brand new with no vibrations. So obviously Performance Chassis didn't mount, balance or do something correctly. I also had new springs delivered to them to get installed. I had heard that this usually costs around $150 - $250. So I had the appt set and dropped the car off and was told it would be ready by a certain time later in the afternoon. I come by after work well past when I was told it would be done by and the car had not moved from where it was left. I asked how long it would take and Mark tells me couple hours so I left and came back later in the evening. When I get there, the car had just entered into the bay and Mark had just started working on it. Well I sit and wait for 2 hours while he works on the car watching him rub up against the back bumper to get into the trunk with the tools hanging out of his pants which leaves scratch marks all along the back. When it was finally done, he tells me it will cost $400. It was my stupid mistake for not getting a quote up front. I felt like he padded the price because he had to stay later to get to my car which was his fault to begin with. Needless to say I will never go back here or recommend this place to anyone. read more

The front desk staff is very nice and helpful but either techs or their Hunter equipment is not calibrated. Front office helped get my tire diagnosed as defective. Everything else... They have done and re-done my alignment twice and steering wheel was still not straight. They balanced and re-balanced my tires on the road-force machine twice. Tires still vibrate at 75 mph. Suspension Solutions fixed the wheel alignment, got the steering wheel straight and now Suspension Solutions will fix balancing. Wasted $150 with Performance Chassis. Do not trust their techs or equipment, go to Suspension Solutions, you will talk to the owner there. read more

Finding a good, reliable, honest mechanic is tough to find. I feel very fortunate to have found the guys at Performance Chassis. I have been using them since they were Hubcap Heaven for just wheels and tires. I now use them for everything for all my cars and considering I have 4 children who all have second hand cars, there has been a lot of need. I was in a collision and brought my car to Performance Chassis for an estimate. The impact was to the right front wheel. The guy told me there was 'no possible way' of knowing what needed to be replaced, then inquired about my insurance deductible. I told him it was $1000 and he told me he could 'work with me on that'. All in all he wanted to do about $2200 in parts and labor to replace the subframe and all accompanying components. I took it to another shop in Cary for a second estimate and was out the door for $350. If you do go here I highly recommend getting a second estimate. read more

Horrible experience. After getting an alignment on my 2014 Mustang, I discovered a few months later that they totally buggered my caster camber plates with what appears to have been an air hammer!! They gouged the metal on the strut mounts and metal/paint on the chassis. I had to have the c/c plates replaced for $300 plus now need a new alignment (needless to say I won't be going to these guys). Stay away. read more
