So I'm not a huge reviewer online, but want to save anyone who I can from making the same mistake that I did of buying a used car from AutoNation. Their employees outright lied several times and have cost me more time and effort than I could have imagined. We were in the market for a used Jeep Grand Cherokee and headed over to AutoNation CDJR Carlsbad, who had a few used models on the lot. When we pulled up, we were greeted by a sales rep, who showed us a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. We test drove the car, and nothing major jumped out at us, except for a check engine light. When I asked the sales rep, he told me that the service department will toggle the check engine light on to indicate that the car still has maintenance or cleaning in progress. Didn't think much of it, other than that it seems like it made sense to a degree. We told the rep that we were going to look at a few other options but would reach out in the next week or so. Flash forward to our second visit to AutoNation... Now that we were considering buying the Jeep, I did a more thorough check thru the vehicle, and test drove it a second time. This time, there was a weird pressure releasing sound when the AC compressor clutch engaged. I brought the issue up to the sales rep, who lied thru his teeth and said "every Cherokee and Durango makes that sound, trust me I own this same car." Our response was... "great, show me one other vehicle that makes that sound on this lot, and I'll drop it." After giving up on that approach (listened to several vehicles and no sound), I asked if we can evacuate the AC system and recharge... assuming that the low level was causing the refrigerant to pass as a gas where it should be liquid. The rep called the manager and a mechanic up from the service department, who made it their mission to make me feel dumb and like I didn't know what I'm talking about. After they assured me that I didn't know what I was talking about for the last time, I told them that we were going to walk, so they evacuated and recharged and what do you know... the sound went away. We thought this was a win, and decided to pull the trigger on the car. At this point the car goes down for the "Final wash" and the check engine light goes off. We purchase the car with a financing option in place, giving us 5 days to drop a check off for payment in full, and financing would be cancelled. We drive the car home and before we even make it home from the dealership, we get a check engine light. When I plugged my first scanner in (on the next key on cycle), I got no stored and no active codes, second scanner found a previously deleted camshaft position sensor stored code. The next day, we headed back to AutoNation to hopefully work out the check engine issue and to drop the $20k check off. When we got there, we were told that we HAD to hand over the check before service could look at the car... (I win the dumba** of the year award for handing that check over). We pay for the car and head down to the service center, assuming that since it was sold the day before, we would at least get a "Sorry this is happening, we'll get it worked out ASAP." Nope... Turns out that they wanted us to drop the check off so that this work could all be billed to the 3rd party insurance, instead of coming out of AutoNation's pocket. I fully believe that AutoNation knew that this car had lifter problems and needed a camshaft (at least) and lied to make the most profitable sale that they could. When I asked for a rental car of equal size, they told me that they would pay for the cheapest option, anything above that is on me to pay for. It's been a month of us having to pay out of pocket for part of the rental AND the manager of this location has received 4-6 messages from me with zero response. It gets better... I reached out to the sales rep, (since the service center doesn't talk to customers I guess) and left a message with all of the issues that we've been dealing with. He calls me back a while later from his personal phone (so he says) because he is afraid that the manager at his location is recording his calls and if he admits that they weren't completely honest, that he'll be retaliated against. Anyone from AutoNation corporate or the insurance company that has the phone plan which includes outgoing calls... I've been asking for an explanation for a month and radio silence, please find my info from the purchase of the white 2017 Grand Cheorkee from AutoNation CDJR Carlsbad in May 16, 2026... They no longer carry the parts and would not help me cause they are not required to service vehicles if the parts don't exist to be purchased. Lame. So what's the point in buying a new car if it's going to get old. I've always have had cars from deal ships and they always serviced them. Dodge needs to do better on customer service. At one point, I was told to "call the bank for rates." So I went ahead and applied with my own bank and ultimately purchased from a dealership in Los Angeles instead. I received a better deal, better customer service, and a much more straightforward buying experience. They also properly applied the military discount to the breakdown, which was important to me. I will not go back to this dealership and I do not recommend them. I was emailed a written quote for a 2026 RAM 1500 at $73,430. I went in based on that exact number. After the test drive, a $10,000 dealer markup was added during financing. The price jumped to $83,430 before taxes and registration. This markup was not disclosed in the email quote and was not communicated upfront. Advertising one price and presenting another later is unacceptable. This experience felt dishonest and intentional. I'm writing this review so everyone understands what it's really like dealing with AutoNation Jeep Chrysler in Carlsbad. I have an extended warranty that covers 100% of repairs up to $200 per hour. AutoNation, however, charges $250 per hour. That means even though I have full warranty coverage, I'm forced to pay the extra $50 per hour out of pocket. I had multiple conversations with my service writer, who first told me it was 100% covered. When I pressed him again, he admitted I would have to pay the difference--but he refused to give me a clear number. After pushing hard, he finally told me it would be $1,000 out of pocket for three repairs that should be covered under warranty. To make matters worse, I contacted the warranty company directly, and they told me AutoNation never submitted the required paperwork (including photos) to verify the issues. Without that, the warranty can't process the claim. Essentially, AutoNation was holding up my warranty coverage. It's been seven days, and I still don't have a written breakdown of what is covered under warranty and what I would be responsible for. When I told them to just fix the main issue--the check engine light caused by a bad crank sensor under warranty--they refused, insisting they had to "fix everything." They claimed I had a thermostat leak (though I've never had coolant loss, stains, or any sign of a leak) and an oil leak at the timing belt cover (despite no oil stains in my driveway). It feels like they're manufacturing problems that don't exist--and I wouldn't be surprised if my car magically starts leaking after I pick it up. Frustrated, I told them not to touch my car. They still want to charge me $250 for a diagnostic even though nothing has been properly resolved. I plan to take my Jeep to another dealership that actually values their customers. I also left five messages and two emails for Miguel, the service manager, with no response at all. That silence says everything you need to know about how this dealership operates. Bottom line: I would never recommend purchasing a vehicle, getting service, or buying an extended warranty through AutoNation Jeep Chrysler Carlsbad. I called AutoNation to confirm bringing my Ram ProMaster van in for service. The telephone clerk assured me (multiple times) that the Carlsbad location could accept my vehicle. I also explained during the call that this would be my second tow of the day and I wanted to make sure it was the right location. Both my boyfriend and I were on the call and clearly heard this repeated confirmation. Relying on that information, I arranged for the vehicle to be towed to Carlsbad. Upon arrival, I was informed that location could not service my vehicle. As a result, I had to arrange a second tow to the Oceanside location. This led to a total of $750 in towing expenses--an entirely avoidable cost had the correct information been provided initially. Sara who works at the service desk was extremely rude and not helpful told me I was at the wrong dealership. No empathy no help. Basically told me to kick rocks. Super gaslighting and unprofessional. I have rated this business a very generous 1-STAR (if I could have given 0-stars I would have). I recently took my Jeep Grand Cherokee in for service and all I can say is that this was the worst service I have ever experienced with a dealership. This was the first time I dealt with this Autonation Carlsbad as I live in Carlsbad and they were the most convenient to home; however going forward, I will avoid this dealership and take my vehicle to Escondido or Poway, even though they are out of the way. In lieu of emotion, I deal with facts and here are the facts so that you can make your own assessment as to whether this is the type of dealership that you should be dealing with: 1. My vehicle's check engine light came on and I noticed my power steering fluid was leaking. I did a diagnostic on the vehicle which indicated there was an issue with the Coolant Thermostat (this was validated by the temp gauge being at 25% instead of halfway). I also noticed that the power steering reservoir remained full except when I drove the vehicle, which suggested that either the power steering pump or lines were leaking. Given this I scheduled an appointment on 05/07/2026, for 05/11/2026 (Monday) @ 10:30AM. 2. When I took it in Monday, the service agent told me that they had to a diagnostic (which is fine), and, since it was a warranty claim, they had to get Jeep's approval before they could do the diagnostic. Despite me calling everyday that week, they indicated that they were still waiting on Jeep's approval on the diagnostic - they finally did the diagnostic on 05/15/2026 (Friday). 3. The diagnostic confirmed the Coolant Thermostat needed to be replaced as did the Power Steering Pump. When I asked when this would be done, the service agent advised that as the repairs were over $1,000, they needed to get Jeep's approval again. They indicated that the Service Contract request would be submitted to Mopar Vehicle Care (MVC) on that same day (05/15/2026), and anticipated getting the parts on 05/19/2026 and the work was estimated to be done 05/20/2026 (Wednesday). 4. When I called on the 20th, they advised that they were still waiting for Jeep's approval. When I followed-up on 05/22/2026 (Friday), again the dealership advised that they were still waiting on MVC. Frustrated, I asked for the MVC's number so that I could call them myself to see what the reason was for the delay. 5. When I called MVC, they were very polite and accommodating and said the following to me: (a) they do not approve a diagnostic test as this is with the dealership. The dealership was blaming MVC for the 5-day delay for the diagnostic, when in fact, the delay was all on the dealership - the diagnostic test could have been done on my 05/11/2026 appointment; (b) despite the dealership saying that the MVC process is complicated and can take a "long" time, Jeff at MVC (who was great), says that it typically takes 2-days to get a Service Contract approved; and (c) and probably the most frustrating part of this entire event was that my service advisor at the dealership said that he submitted the Service Contract request to MVC the day of the diagnostic on 05/15/2026 when in fact, the dealership did not submit the request until almost a week later on 05/21/2026 (in which case, I don't know why they told me they were hoping to do the repairs to my vehicle on0 5/20/2026) when that was in fact, the day before they even submitted the Service Contact to MVC. 6. I asked Jeff at MVC if they could expedite the approval given the extensive delay I had experienced at the dealership, which MVC was able to do. I called them on Friday the 22nd and they approved on Monday the 25th. 7. When I called my service advisor on 05/22/2026 and advised that MVC will approve on Monday, he indicated that once approved, they would get my vehicle in for repair immediately and that I would have the vehicle end of day 05/25/2026 or 05/26/2026 at the latest. I called MVC Monday, got the Case file number and the Authorization # and then called my service advisor that morning with the information. Despite assurances my vehicle would be done, I did not get my vehicle until later that week, almost 3-weeks from my appointment date. This was an absolutely grueling process, I completely lost all confidence in the information the dealership/service advisor provided; they blatantly lied to me on a couple of occasions; and I had to do the legwork to get the approvals otherwise, I might still not have my vehicle. In summary, getting your car repaired should not be this challenging nor should it take 3-weeks for a 1-day repair. Plus, I value honesty and integrity in any business that I deal with, while obviously, Autonation Carlsbad does not espouse this same philosophy. Given this, I obviously suggest that this dealership be AVOIDED for service (and obviously new sales as well) and that you consider one of the many other dealerships out there who truly value your business. read more

I dropped my car off at AutoNation Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Carlsbad on Friday at 10 a.m. for recall work. I was told it would be ready by Monday or Tuesday morning at the latest. It's now Tuesday, and they still haven't even started on it. They kept my car for four full days with no updates or progress, didn't offer a loaner vehicle, and left my family without transportation since Thursday, causing us to miss important doctor appointments for our twin daughters. When I called for an update, I spoke with German and then Robert, the manager. Both were rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. Robert even spoke to me like I was unintelligent, made a condescending McDonald's analogy, and told me to "take my business elsewhere" instead of apologizing or taking responsibility. Not once did anyone express empathy, accountability, or attempt to make things right. This is hands down the worst customer service experience I've ever had with any dealership. As soon as my lease is up, I will never buy another Jeep or Chrysler product. If you value honesty, respect, and professionalism, take your vehicle somewhere else. read more

Don't buy a car here! Don't have our regrets! We made a service appointment for our car we purchased here two years ago, for an engine light that is a known issue. The appointment was made two weeks in advanced, yet when we dropped it off, they told us it would take 5-7 days to get a "diagnosis". Now our car has been on there lot for 7 days without any service, no updates, no rental car, no options other then to "find business elsewhere". We messaged the service manager, Miguel Prado for an update, called him, emailed him. No response. I hope their sales department knows the lack of any service they offer, as we will never consider purchasing here again. Not only did the warranty work take 3 weeks, they told me my radiator was cracked, car was unsafe to drive, and I had to pay $2,500 to repair it. I towed my minivan to a different shop, nothing is wrong with the radiator. Passed compression test. Had another car inspection to buy the extended warranty, verified the car was fine. I have to wait till Monday for further news. Two weeks without my car? Can you go two weeks or more without your car? This place is the worst ever. I brought another Jeep in a couple months ago and after two weeks there and they said they forgot to look at it I just took it back. Autonation must be trying to get as much income then sell off? Stay away!! Beware if you have anything go wrong with the vehicle and you need service, you'll be waiting a long, long time without your car ! You cannot bring your car up and get a diagnostic for anything. Having an appointment does not mean anything.! You must leave it there for "7 to 10 days" before they even take a look at it and diagnose it. You will not get a loaner during this time You cannot ask to be called when your turn is coming up and then return with your car You're just stuck without a car for an unknown period of time until they look at it. And then of course who knows how long after that. Worst service ever !! We had our grand Cherokee serviced last week and purchased a maintenance contract from another dealer when purchased less than three years ago. The contract is supposed to be honored at all Jeep dealerships, but this one was not able to process and said the contract had expired, which I have since researched and found is erroneous. A frustrating part is that I have been trying to reach the service rep and others and management who worked on this and they have not responded. Efforts to find a management contact have not been successful after leaving messages. I would greatly appreciate a phone call about this. At this point, I do not recommend this dealership. read more

Pulled up and a younger gentleman with a pretty thick accent, kind of Grody looking hair decided he was going to be the one to try and sell me a car. Needless to say, we sat down to discuss what I wanted, and the price point I was looking at just to be overwhelmed by not being able to completely understand them, because of the speech barrier. Terrible service. New Dodge with 16k miles had an oil leak. Waited for an appointment here and was told 5-7 days just to diagnose the problem. Meanwhole no rental or loaner provided. Service manager was rude and unhelpful. Said "call the manufacturer". Didn't even offer a phone number. My local repair shop diagnosed and fixed it for $110, including an oil change. Recently, my wife and I received a recall notice in the mail for her Fiat 500X. She bought her previous Fiat in Carlsbad, however, that dealership merged with Bob Baker CJDRF. I gave them a call and they told me that they only work on Fiats on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8-11 AM and it was on a first come, first served basis. WTF?!?! Instead of bringing my car here, I called DCH in Temecula, made an appointment, and took my car there AND THEY EVEN PROVIDED A COURTESY LOANER! Why your Fiat mechanics only work three days a week for three hours on each day is puzzling to me but in either case, I will not be bringing my wife's car here for any future repairs - warranty or otherwise. read more
