LOCAL WARNING: My experience with AutoWest (Plainwell, MI) I am sharing this to save anyone else in the area from going through what I am currently dealing with. I bought a vehicle from AutoWest under the assurance that it was safe and reliable. Instead, I was sold a completely non-drivable safety hazard. Within 30 days, the transmission failed completely. Despite the car being sold with a warranty, AutoWest denied coverage and refused to replace it. Worse, the car locked up on me while driving, which almost caused a major accident. I took it to an independent mechanic who discovered deep, undisclosed issues: frame damage, past front-end damage, and evidence that the onboard computer memory had been cleared to hide issues. Now, there is traces of oil in the coolant meaning it needs a head gasket and likely a full engine rebuild. Please protect yourself if you shop here: Bring your own trusted mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. Do not trust verbal assurances--get every single warranty term and promise in writing. Don't go here! We went and looked at a 2020 Chevy Equinox with 99,987 miles on it they wanted $19,000 for it. When we talked numbers they were telling us the payment would be around $450 a month. The guy who helped us kept telling us that he couldn't change that. They wouldn't take our trade either. The other car we wanted was there to look at. Well, we told him what we wanted he couldn't do it so we went and looked elsewhere. Well, we ended up finding the same car the same year with 30,000 less miles for $18,500 and the payment is only $277 a month. This would be an absolute last resort place to go to get a car. Check your credit report. Some car dealerships will work with you even if your credit is bad so please check first before you ever go with this place. Their goal here is to sell you a car with a massive payment. They're not out there to help you get the best deal regardless of what they say. read more

Con artists that rely on underhanded tactics to get customers in the door. They use a 'Lady Luck' mail scam in which the owners of this dealership decided to mass mail phony 'sweepstakes' to get people in the door. Every single mail piece will say you're a winner with a big cash prize (mine said $1000), however what they don't tell you is you won the CHANCE to win $1000. So when you show up, they give you a piece of junk (mass produced tumbler or earbuds etc) and then try to sell you on a car. Total waste of time, do not give people like this your money. To the owners of this dealership: I suggest you should start trying to attract clients through above board good customer service rather than trying to trick people into becoming customers. read more

January 31 2023, Monthly payment $929.66, I told them I couldn't afford more than $450, gave me $1500 to use $500 a month for 3 months and they would refinance and get the payment to $450. Called the number the salesman Kenny Kosty, no answer, voicemailbox full. Called the manager, no answer, didn't return calls. Drove to Plainwell, was told to wait 6 months. Auto West of Plainwell MI is not a dealership i would recommend. Purchased a 2014 Toyota Vesta there in Feb/Mar of this year, and it had issues the dealership said they would get parts for and fix. It's now May and the dealership is not returning my calls about the repair. It's a safety and performance issue- an exhaust manifold leak that makes it impossible to use the heater or a/c without asphyxiating. I would strongly recommend not going here to buy a car. y've now been warned. If i'd seen the reviews that i have now found, i would never have gone there. read more

It's me again. As you see, I am updating the last post that I wrote. Let me preface this review by saying I do not have the greatest credit so getting approved for a car is a major ordeal. Midwest Motors got us approved for a vehicle as i posted earlier. Great! Except for the fact that the vehicle previously mentioned had not been inspected yet. The windshield wipers would not stop working (or stopped working when they shouldn't of stopped) and the cruise control was broken. Two things they couldn't fix amongst other reasons. Ok, no big deal. They worked with the bank tirelessly and got us approved for another vehicle. Great! But they didn't have the key for the vehicle. So we waited for about 4 days while they said they were getting it towed to the dealership to have a key made. Ok, so we waited. We made sure to check-in daily and ask for updates. We almost never got replies. FINALLY the day came when they had a key and were ready to sign (december 13). We were on our way to the dealership (granted a little late because we were coming from Holland and got caught in traffic but we made sure to communicate with Darryl and Shaun that we were on our way and we were told that was fine). We told them that we were literally at the Plainwell exit. "ok ok, see you soon" shaun said. LITERALLY 2 minutes LATER we pulled into the lot and it was COMPLETELY dark. They said the roads were bad and they wanted to close early. The roads 2 days ago were NOT bad at 6pm and they didn't tell us they were closing early until we were about 3 minutes away. . . . Let me add that the roads weren't bad because i was able to drive from Plainwell to wayland with virtually no brakes with absolutely no issues. WE have not heard ONE SINGLE WORD FROM MIDWEST MOTORS, SHAUN, OR DARRYL EVER SINCE DECEMBER 13. the level of SHADE this place gave us after saying they worked hard to get us approved IS UNBELIEVABLE AND UNPROFESSIONAL TO SAY THE LEAST. . . (We don't deny that they worked hard to get us approved with our credit history. . .. but why do the work if you can't complete the job)? WE WENT WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR 2+ WEEKS SOLELY BECAUSE WE WERE GIVEN A HAND FULL OF EMPTY PROMISES FROM DARRYL AND MIDWEST MOTORS. I personally lost work from my full time job and my part time job because we were constantly told that we needed to come in to the dealership for one reason or another. Also december 13 was my daughters birthday and because of the unnecessary drama with Midwest Motors we weren't even able to get home and have cake and presents on time before she had to go to bed. We were treated one way to our faces and another way behind our backs. What a joke and a waste of time. What did they get out of doing this to us?!?!?? read more

I would never buy a vehicle from them again. They first sold me a car that had just come in as a trade in, had not been looked over. When I then agreed to buy I was promised a 50 pct. safety check where they would fix anything that was wrong and also they would be cruise control on it. So, I purchased and then a week later I took it in for the safety check and was told it was all good, they changed the oil and refilled my AC. No cruise control put on was told they were working on it. I'm driving it and it's loud inside lots of wheel/road noise. This was within 2 days of the so called safety check. I was due to go on a lengthy trip up north and was worried about the noise I was hearing so I took into Goodyear and asked them to give it a once over. The guy comes back and tells me that it's unsafe to drive, urges me to drive the back road home and go slow. I have a ball bearing on one wheel that was bad, and the tires he said on the inside were chewed up, and the transmission pan was rusted out and leaking. Now how does one miss this in a safety check? I go immediately to Autowest, I am at first given the run around but needless to say I was not a happy lady. The manager Sean finally agrees to give me a loaner the next morning for my trip and will fix my car. The next morning I go in and after a long wait they have a loaner ready for me. That was also poor business on how I was treated that day, but that is another story. They had my car a week I was told finally it was ready and I went to pick up. They did put new tires on and fixed the ball bearing. Still, no cruise control now they are trying to tell me it might not get done because they can't find anyone who can do it. When I told them when I purchased it that no cruise was a deal breaker for me. (I have bad arthritis and during long trips I sometimes need to rotate/move my foot) Sean admits that the first time I brought it in they did NOT do a safety check his mechanics just assumed it had been done previously. How does hone check brakes, change oil and not notice the tires or the transmission pan? I took it back to Goodyear just to make sure, because I do NOT trust anything autowest says to me. They agreed that they did do the work that I requested except the transmission pan wasn't replaced, they just put some coating on it to stop it from leaking. I did finally get the cruise control put on, from the same place they said originally couldn't do it. I feel only reason I finally got things fixed and the cruise put on is because I was forceful and a pain. I wasn't going to let them slide by. They are dishonest and would never suggest this place to anyone. read more

Horrible place to get a car if you are struggling to get ahead because the cars they sell ain't looked at they just sell ,sell,sell and doesn't take any time to make sure what the car is dependable . Won't help or take action in the lemons they are selling ! We loved working with Midwest Motors. After having a terrible experience at a Toyota Dealership, dealing with Sheri and the team at Midwest Motors was a breath of fresh air. We live about six hours away from this dealership and called ahead because we were looking for a pretty specific car. Sheri was great over the phone and helped us out by having us send over documents in advance to prepare paperwork. Best of all, we love our new car! read more

The worst experience in my life. The salesmen really pushy and disrespectful. They do not look over Vehicles before they sell them. I just picked up an SUV from them in March and it is the beginning of July and my transfer case is garbage because there is no fluid in it I park in a garage and have not seen one leak since I bought it. The air conditioning line has a hole in it they put dye in it and I know this because when I went to charge it there was green die all over my floor. I went to their mechanic twice for my transfer case problems knowing that it was something with the front wheel drive and each time they tried blaming it on my motor mount and charging me to fix them. Stay clear of this dealership! I purchased a 4X4 diesel I also purchased the warranty to protect my investment. The mechanics have been chasing a coolant leak and can never solve the problem, they have had the truck for 10 days, yes ten and I received a phone call today that the truck does not have a leak. I guess I never put 2.5 gallons of antifreeze in the truck either, or had to clean my garage floor. I guess maybe they might want to have a create motor on standby. I just want people to know they will not help you after they take your money, plenty of pre-owned factory certified just down the road. read more

I bought an SUV from Now known as Auto West, the are worthless when it comes to repair. I told them that the check engine light was on and I went it to be fixed for I do not want to be a lemon. Their response to me oh it's nothing to be concern about. Yea Right! I was stranded for 2 1/2 hour on a Sunday afternoon. Come to find out it is because of that light. They do not care about their customer at all. I will not do business with this company any more. Nor will I recommend them to any one. They think of themselves and them alone. These people are SHADY. They "pre-approved" me for a vehicle and then when they suckered me in to coming and signing for the vehicle I was supposedly approved for, they told me there was a mistake on my application and I wasn't actually approved. I wasted 2 hours there waiting for approval. Then spent the next 4 days going back and forth with several sales people and getting the run-around. I was highly dissatisfied with how I was treated and after leaving a review I returned to collect my down payment I had placed on the vehicle I had been "approved" for. Upon entering I was greeted by a salesman who led me to the owner, Don, who confronted me about my review. After retrieving my refund and returning home I did a bit of research and found out that the owner was the previous manager for Midwest Motors, a company you may have heard of as a result of a lawsuit involving a practice called "spot delivery" which, of course is illegal in Michigan, the state in which they do business. That lawsuit placed Midwest Motors on probation for 24 months back in August of 2016. Suddenly Midwest Motors was under new management and a new name, AutoWest. The only difference between the two companies being that now Don is at the helm of this illegitimate, deceptive, thieving business. Also, one of the salespeople, Sasha, has left a review on their page, for the company she is employed under. They are liars and will deceive you until they've gotten what they want. Your money is all they care for. Stay away from this place for your own good. read more
