The facade is stone covered in ivy. You step in and you are transported to the Middle Ages. Timbered walls and ceiling, murals of 15th century French royals and servants. This all sets the tone. This restaurant is far from the Brasseries you'll find around Paris. This establishment, where the lovely wife serves and the husband is the chef, serves authentic classic French recipes. The Madame is an attentive server, explaining the dishes and the wines they serve, and always checking back to make sure you are happy and satisfied. We had planned to eat here during our last visit to Paris but had to cancel and I promised myself this would be the first place we would have dinner when we returned, I am so glad we did. My mission was to try the Cassoulet, hearing that it was o end the best in town. It was one of the most hearty and delicious meals I have ever had. The Smoky flavor, the meats and beans basically melted in my mouth. I could have sat there all night and kept eating this, it was that good. Deb had the grilled duck breast in a honey raisin sauce. This was the tenderest duck ever. Delicious. We sampled the terrine starter (which we had never had before). The House special Tarte Tatin with vanilla ice cream was an excellent closer for this wonderful meal. The environment. Small and rustic. Dining in here is like going back in time. We got the onion soup - and for the first time ever, I could try it (I'm not a big cheese person and the cheese came separately). Tasty and perfect for a winter day. I also got the rabbit with mustard sauce. I normally love rabbit, and was a bit hesitant about the mustard sauce because I don't like mustard - but it was very subtle and went nicely with the rabbit. We discovered this charming little restaurant while looking around online for a close place for dinner. Located on a little island on the Seine, this restaurant was a pleasant stroll from our hotel near the Notre Dame. We didn't have a reservation, so we arrived as the restaurant was opening for dinner. A friendly lady (perhaps the owner?) was able to seat us as we were the first ones there. For a starter, we ordered the fresh salmon, which she emphasized is not cooked. No worries; we love sushi, so raw salmon is no big deal. It was nicely dressed with olive oil and lemon. For main dishes, we had the cassoulet, which was outstanding; and the duck, which boyfriend found to be a little dry. We shared a nice bottle of red wine, and had the Tarte Tatin for dessert. Everything about this place feels very authentic, like you are eating dinner at your French grandmother's house. The decor is very charming and in keeping with the age of the building. We had a lovely chat with a retired college history professor from the US, and shared our travels and experiences. He localized this restaurant on his recent trip, visiting several times because he liked it so much! A great place for dinner, off the beaten path in a quiet neighborhood. read more

Looking for a late lunch, or early dinner depending on what you call it, my mother and I came to Aux Anysetiers du Roy. It was located within walking distance of our hotel and when we arrived, we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. The service was very kind and engaging with a warm and heartfelt welcome from what I assumed to be the owner. To start our meal, I ordered onion soup, while my mother ordered a salad. The onion soup was flavorful and had great depth to it - perfect for a rainy afternoon. For my meal, I opted for a hearty dish with eggplant and meat sauce while my mother ordered fish. Both meals were robust and delicious. You can tell they were cooked with love. This was the closest thing to "home-cooked" food I've eaten in a French restaurant. read more

He said it was the cut of beef that really ruined it for him, very tough. The escargot was delicious, and the crème brûlée was good, although the sugar on top was not completely done- could've used more time under the flame. The vibes of the restaurant are very nice, definitely has an old feel. The seating was a bit uncomfortable, as the back of the chair is practically nonexistent. I had high expectations for this restaurant as I've heard online it's a quaint, family oriented place serving traditional country style French food. However, I was severely disappointed. The place itself is quite small, which I'm fine with on most occasions but when we asked for a table of five, they provided us with a small corner table. Leg room and table space were non existent. The food was also disappointing. The French Onion Soup was watery and it actually felt like the onions weren't fully cooked. I had French onion soup in several restaurants during my trip and this was by far the worst. The food across the board was over seasoned. Very heavy and salty. Finally the service was horrible. The waitress was slow in taking our orders between meals and upon giving us the check, she quickly ushered us out saying "Go, go, go! There are others waiting". The place is incredibly charming, with its medieval decor and period-looking furniture. The food is quite good--we have eaten here many times since 2000, and never been disappointed. The people who run it are characters, and the experience can vary, depending on what kind of day they are having. On one visit, there was a large party next to us (also American), and one of them asked for mayonnaise with their frites. The waitress pretended to be shocked, and said, "Mais non!" in a mock-horrified voice, and then, of course, produced the requested mayonnaise. The man has a repertoire of Dad Jokes. Other days, one or both of them are more subdued, but they have always been polite and happy to see us. Service is leisurely, although if you are in a rush, you can ask to have things sped up (other than the cooking, which takes the time it takes--and totally worth waiting for the hand-made bechamel). We're always here during off-season, so we have never been rushed out. The wine list is interesting, and the by-the-glass selections are nicely varied. The desserts are fantastic--be sure to save room! read more

It has wonderful small shops and has some of the most expensive real estate in Paris. We have dinned a the restaurant prior to the pandemic and wanted to try it during our re-visit to Paris. The atmosphere has not changed, the downstairs seating section is quite small and tight. There is a large seating upstairs but it was not being used during our visit. The kitchen is quite visible from the lower dining area. We ordered salads as starters. The goat cheese salad is especially recommended. For main courses we order the salmon entre and the house special; beef bourguignon. Both dishes were will prepared. Except for the tight seating, Aux Anysetiers is a nice choice. read more

I remember this rare restaurant from 50 years ago. Such an unusual place with an incredible history. Friends took my advice and went a few days ago. As always the food was excellent and the ambiance exceptional. 17th century Paris! But when the check arrived it was twice what they expected, which had been the prix fixe of 17.5 euros. No, they were told, you ordered off the a la carte menu. Perhaps a misunderstanding, but it's the kind of thing that leaves a bad taste in your mouth, no matter how fine the meal. Aux Anysetiers du Roy, a medieval building in the charming Ile St.-Louis had plenty of dark wood, stained glass windows and ancient paintings on the walls-- all of which spoke of a different time. History Americans would struggle to relate to as our country is so new. In the same dining room was one older woman. A motherly figure who by herself cooked for the entire room. Watching her work the line was like watching a ballet. Every move synchronized, effortless and in rhythm. It was if she was born for this. So focused, yet when she would allow herself to look up from the stove, a warm glow to her face when she saw the delight shared with everyone who ate her food. At our table, all of the traditional dishes were consumed; French Onion soup, Escargot, Cassoulet Maison, Boeuf Bourguignon and Crème Brûlée. We even washed the dinner down with a bottle of Bourdeaux. It just seemed right. Here we were, at a traditional French haven of food. A non touristy one at that. Eating traditional french comfort dishes that were executed flawlessly. Sometimes food can be too complicated. Chefs experiment. Focus is lost. What isn't lost are timeless classics such as traditional French cuisine served the same way that it's been done since the beginning of time and availability of adequate cooking devices. At this restaurant, focus is not lost. This type of food will never be out of touch. It speaks from the soul and is perfect in aiding the gap between all cultures, backgrounds and ways of life. Comfort food is a connector. And during this dinner, our family shared a moment. Just a few days after exchanging wedding vows with my wife in the most romantic of all cities, this was when it all slowed down. Over a meal of stewed sausage, pork, duck and beans. I ate here January of this year (2020) at the recommendation of a friend. Best duck I've ever eaten. Best escargots I've ever eaten (I don't throw around such hyperboles that easy). Most uniquely delicious meal I've ever had in Paris, and that is obviously saying a lot. Possibly the best meal I've ever had. I adore this part of paris. this beautiful spot in on l'ile saint-louis, and it's a great alternative to the madness and winding streets of the nearby marais(which are charming, unless you're super-hungry and have little time to waste) and the prices are so-so. I dropped by twice during my last visit. First, the beef bourguignon was perfect and served with veggies(and not only cheap-ass frites like some places), followed by a lackluster apple tart(hence 4 stars). I also tried the duck, which was a fresh take on confit de canard with just enough sweetness against the crispness of the perfectly cooked bird. My friend's salmon looked thoughtfully delicious. Whatever was in the creme brûlée this second visit(chocolate blanc, vanilla?) hit the spot and made me smile. I likely returned because the building is so rustic and romantic. It definitely beats a lot of the nearby newer buildings and cafes, per ambiance. I believe the french onion soup here, which my parisian friend ordered, was served deconstructed(not a good thing, unless you're on some dumb diet) but he said it was great. The servers were also charming as hell, so I'd definitely recommend this place to french-lacking tourists. read more

The lunch special shown on the blackboard on the street was not actually the lunch special, but it looked like a lunch special, prix fixe, E17.50. The actual lunch special was posted inside. Thinking we were each getting today's lunch special we ordered accordingly. Surprise! The lunch special price didn't apply. We paid a la carte, almost twice the price. OMG! The best French food! I came here twice 18 years ago and have never forgotten the food, the atmosphere and the petite white-haired and bespectacled woman who was cooking. It's all the same! I started with the foie gras and it was the best foie gras I have ever tasted on toast triangles. I ate the whole thing and I was dining solo. Next came the beef bourguignon. It was the best beef bourguignon I've ever had! Most times it's too salty, but this has the perfect flavor and tender beef. Just perfect. And finally dessert. I ordered a sort of apple tart with vanilla ice cream. I kind of knew I was in trouble when I heard the ding of a microwave. When it came, it looked good enough with what seemed like poached apples in a pie or tart shell. It was a little lackluster since the crust, having been microwaved was now kind of mushy. The vanilla ice cream was good though. Next week when I come back, I'll have to get one of the other desserts! All in all, a great meal! I came back with my family of twin 10 year old boys, husband and couple of friends. We had the filet de boeuf and lasagne, and of course started with the foie gras. My boys loved the foie gras. I'm glad it was exactly as I had had it the week before. A great memory for my next trip back to Paris! The filet de boeuf was just delicious and the sauce was perfect! Not too rich. It had a nice yam mash, green beans, and potato au gratin on the side, all perfectly cooked! The lasagne was just amazing. Flavorful and simple but delicious! Our desserts were ice cream, tiramisu , which was perfect, and chocolate mousse. I wish we would have gotten the apple dessert, which our friend did, because it was completely different than the one I had the first night. It was sliced apples piled on top of a pasty with vanilla sauce. It looked amazing. So glad we could share this experience with our kids after all these years and we enjoyed it just as read more

We had a disappointing experience here. We had reservations but when we showed up at our time the host seemed surprised. My husband showed him the reservation on his phone. They sent us upstairs which was obviously the less desirable seating area. Our waiter did not approach us for at least 20 minutes! No water, no menu, nothing. We finally were able to order. My husband got the onion soup and the waiter brought croutons and cheese to add on your own, not what he was expecting at all. I ordered the Chicken Fricasse which was very bland. I went to this restaurant three nights in a row and the second two times I had the Casolet Maison for my entree. This dish is earth shattering, a steaming crock of pork, beans and vegetables, bubbling and scalding hot. The baguettes were perfect, the wine was excellent, even the bathrooms were fun and unique. All the details were just right. This spot is in the Isle De La Cite, one of the oldest parts of Paris, and its medieval ambiance only adds to the experience. The creme brûlée was amazing. There needs to be a massive correction of the reviews on this restaurant. It is CREEPY, dark and has not been updated in forever. All we wanted was onion soup, which is done excellently everywhere. What we got was watered down - almost entirely flavorless, with stale bread (not toasted fresh bread into croutons) and some totally tasteless industrial grated white cheese. When I signaled the chef/owner/reluctant waitress that we wished to have our check and go, she INSISTED on knowing why we would not eat the soup. I attempted to duck out of the conversation, since it was clear that we did not like it. She pushed and insisted and argued that I did not know what I had ordered and that no one else had EVER complained. And then charged us full price. So: Food - insultingly horrible, ambiance - dirty (she never bothered to clear all the trash on the other empty tables), service - argumentative and greedy. My advice is to steer VERY VERY clear of this place and hopefully, it will go out of business to be replaced with something better. read more
