Straight up guy. If for some reason it's outside of his normal realm, he says so! Realize this is rare- he is telepathic- haha. Can see your car and somehow understands it. Can't recommend them enough. If you live in West Adams area, your lifetime search is over. Bottom line, he knows how to do good business. Period. Quick anecdote, friend from Argentina that just bought a used car, - it broke down suddenly -had to get it towed- and couldn't get it to them till just after closing. I took my car here for service based on the reviews stating the shop does good work. I disagree, I had my front and back brakes done paying $480 dollars. One month later my brakes started squeaking. Initially only sqeaking in the morning now they are squeaking throughout the day. When i went back to ask why are my brakes squeaking after only 1 month since repair i was told because I couldn't tell them which brakes are squeaking I would have to leave the car overnight since it squeaks in the morning. If you are driving an expensive car I wouldnt get work done here. I wouldnt trust it. Telling me to leave my car, who can do that without having a loaner car. Disappointing that my car is squeaking after paying the amount of money I did. They told me to sit in my car while service was being done and this is a lesson learned I will never sit in my car again while work is being done. $480 just thrown away read more

Have you ever gone to your dealership's service center to get a quote for a repair, and everything the service shop guy says sounds like the trombone noise adults make in "Peanuts" cartoons, and you leave convinced that you'll have to take out a second mortgage (as if you could actually afford a first) just to get your car repaired? And so, you go home, and you Google "Best independent mechanic in _____ zip code," and you see what pops up on Yelp, and you read some promising reviews, and you make an educated guess as to which mechanic sounds like your best bet, and you drive to their location with a hope and a prayer that this random garage you found on Yelp can fix your vehicle in a timely manner without charging you an arm and a leg. In that case, I'm happy to report that AV Auto can! Long story short, my check engine light came on, I ran (free) diagnostics at AutoZone, I went to the dealership, I left the dealership, I cursed the dealership, and then I found AV Auto on Yelp. AV confirmed the diagnosis (I needed a new engine coolant pump), recommended I get the part online (for a better price), set a time for the repair, and finished the job in less time than they quoted me. If only everything in life was this easy! So if you're reading this, and you're thinking to yourself, "Can I trust this random dude on Yelp about this random garage on Yelp?" the answer is: "Yes. Everyone was polite and friendly, I felt at home My car had a coolant leak and also needed a water pump and thermostat housing replaced Hector allowed me to make an appointment, he even has some weekend availability if you can snag one. Once I arrived He showed me each part quoted the price for me and gave me the option of choosing him at that rate. I knew he was being honest so I chose to bring my car in the next day and he got it done earlier than expected, they were kind and understanding of my situation and I saw him execute this compassion across the board as I listened to him work with other clients while I was there for my diagnosis which was free. He is honest and hard working. I will continue to work with AV AUTO for my repair needs. A few notable things: He was getting the work done the cars are being fixed and customers are leaving satisfied. I cannot thank this place enough! Hector was so kind everybody who was there was just amazing. I went in there to get an oil change and to fill the coolant on my car. I had an accident where somebody hit me when I was parked and they had left my bumper in quite bad shape. I had called on a Tuesday afternoon and they said to come in at 2:30/3pm. I arrived at around 2:40pm. One of the employees was finishing up lunch and started work on my car at 3pm. I can't express enough how well-deserved this rating is. These guys have become our go-to mechanics, and they have really gone above and beyond. I reached out initially because the timing belt had gone out on my car and I was comparing quotes. I got the best price quote from AV Auto, so I decided to go there. They did a great job, so when later on I needed a clutch kit replacement, I contacted Helio again. He gives a very thorough price breakdown, and he was willing to allow me to bring my own parts and just charge for the labor. Helio has told me that if I have any problems with the car to just reach out, and I have texted him to ask him questions several times and he always has answered and done his best to help me. He even told me to bring the car by because it was not getting normal power in 1st gear, and he took a look and did something that really helped, and didn't charge us for the time, advise and effort. I will recommend these guys to anyone! One thing that is good to know upfront, there is an extra percentage fee if you pay with a card. Awesome place. They were able to replace the radiator and hoses in my 2005 Toyota Matrix pretty quickly and easily. Very inexpensive as well. If you have a similar type of vehicle, check them out. AV Auto is probably the best kept secret in LA. My car was leaking coolant and also messed up from the last mechanic. I called AV after looking up on Yelp and seeing the reviews. Helio answered the phone and told me to come down the next day so he can take a look. I pulled in and he literally went right to work to see what the problem was. He found it and said he has to order the part and to call him back in a few days. In the meantime, he reset my dashboard computer which was all messed up from the previous mechanic, put coolant in my car to get me by, and filled my tires at no cost! Huge headache with this place, had struts done here when it was called Auto PhD and trust me it's the same owner. He changes the name to avoid himself getting his own headaches. They do SHIT JOBS and when you try to get them to fix what they should have fixed in the first place they make you feel like YOU don't know what you're talking about. I had to get an oil change and AV auto was the only place that could take my car in the day that I called. I called at 11 AM and they told me to come by 3 PM. The place is a bit small, but that did not really matter because the service was fast and good. The owner did my oil change and checked other parts of my car since my car is getting pretty run down and old (2008 toyota). They charged me $70 which is around the price I get it for when I am back at my hometown's auto shop, so I felt like the price was reasonable. I moved to Los Angeles and within 24 hours, someone had knocked the driver's side rearview mirror off my car. I asked for quotes from several places, but Helio suggested that the most affordable route would be to order a replacement part on Ebay and just pay for labor. The best part is he sent me a screenshot of the exact mirror that I needed! This, along with him having the best quote of anyone else made me decide to take my car to AutoPhD. I was able to go in the same day that I requested an appointment and am very happy to say, I have a working mirror again!
