So I cannot comment about other makes of cars because I only have experience with one type of car. I took my BMW here because a couple of the sensors were not working. I failed the smog test multiple times. They gave me aftermarket sensors and helped drive the car so one sensor worked, meaning it passed the OBD2 sensor. They didn't want to help any further than resetting the battery. I have driven hundreds of miles in various types of traffic, over months to try to get the car to pass the smog. I failed the smog test every time--about a dozen times total. It's been six months of going back to the this mechanic shop 3-4 times, the smog test center multiple times, and multiple long road trips to get the battery to "read," as I was told by the mechanic here. I took it to another mechanic and within TWO days they were able to not only solve the problem, but get the car to pass the smog test. It was a software issue, not a hardware issue. Wow SIX months of stress later, I regret my decision to come here in the first place. They are nice enough and perhaps very competent with other models, but for BMWs or other European cars and specific to the smog test issue, I would steer far, far away. What a headache! read more

I'm someone who likes to know the details and have an explanation of what's wrong and the work being done. Whenever I need work done on my car, Edward always provide me a full explanation for my peace of mind (he'll also literally show me inside the car what's broken too -- so not just taking his word for granted). My car broke down and the tow truck driver was able to recommend E&M when my regular mechanic was not only closed, but totally unresponsive for for days after my breakdown. On the other hand, within minutes of dropping my car to E&M, I had the owner's cell- to check on progress- and I had a general idea of what I might be looking at (thank goodness it wasn't as insanely bad as it could have been- as I dreaded it might be). He got my car fixed waaaay faster than anticipated, and kept the price well within reason. He also gave me a rundown of what I needed to look for in the coming months, whether I brought the car back to him or not. Amazing service, kind and friendly folks, and absolutely reasonable prices. I have been taking my car to E&M Automative for all my oil changes and car repair needs for the last 2 years. Edward is incredibly kind, quick, and trustworthy. One time I had an issue with my car turning on a day after getting a repair done at his shop and Edward drove all the way to me on a Sunday morning to ensure all was ok with the car. It ended up just being a dead battery but Edward went out of his way to check on it, on his day off. (He had to drive almost an hour to me!!!). He even let me borrow his battery jumper until I was able to get the battery replaced. His prices are fair and his service is fast. Totally recommend for all of your car repair needs! read more

E & M is run by Edward who is truly not only one of the best skilled mechanics in LA but but he is 100% trustworthy. In the world of mechanics, I believe that is very rare. I met him through a close friend of mine and I've recommend him to all my closest friends to get their cars serviced here. Before you go to the dealer, call Edward first. And it doesn't matter where you live. Finding a good mechanic is like trying to find a great hairstylist or barber. You know when you find someone good, you'll follow them to any city or any shop they move to. I love his service so much that I drive 45 minutes from my home to his shop. I would give 0 stars if possible. Both of these photos were taken 12/19/23. I went here first on 11/18 to have my car fixed so it would pass a smog check, Edward (scam artist) charged me $300 to "fix" a sensor and told me the car would pass the smog, I went the next day for smog check and my car did not pass. Then I asked him to fix my check engine light on 12/27/23 which he charged me $910 for and when I got the car back surprise, the check engine light was still on. On the 27th I came in with a spare tire on (unrelated I had AAA put that on) and for some reason beyond me he asked to see my tire so he opened my trunk and moved the tire that was in there "to make it easier to pull out" which caused my whole trunk to become blocked and unopenable when I was at my tire appointment yesterday 12/28. After calling him yesterday, he told me to come into his shop and he would open my trunk, when I asked how he refused to tell me and replied "Don't worry about it, I will open" so I had to miss my appointment and miss work to go back to his shop today and have him fix what he broke when he was not supposed to touch my trunk in the first place, let alone move thing around. When I arrived today, clearly upset because he ruined my trunk so the key fob and the interior button lock didn't work, he told me that I needed to calm down or he wouldn't work on my car when he insisted that I come in. Understandable, but then he tried forcing the trunk open so I had to ask him to stop because he was going to break the latch mechanism (please see the photo) and I googled how to open the trunk in this situation, which led me to find an emergency latch to open the trunk that can be accessed through the back seat. When I asked Edward to go in through the backseat he refused and started taking a phone call while walking away while being very rude and dismissive to me. I came to him based on a coworker's recommendation because I am new to the state but I have spent over $3,500 here since moving to LA in November just for him to have not fixed any of these so called "issues" he has been finding and stealing my money. If you want to be taken advantage of and scammed out of thousands of dollars, especially if you're a woman, you should come here. If you want someone actually trustworthy and who actually knows what they are doing, I would highly recommend you keep searching. Edward is the WORST mechanic I have ever had the displeasure of meeting, I have had to go through my bank to get the money back because he refuses to issue a refund or complete the services as charged and most recently file a police report with LAPD for property damage to my car for what he did to my trunk when I never asked him to work on or touch my trunk initially. I can't describe how much I loathe this place, I left today crying and of course Edward didn't care he was more concerned with my tone than being a respectable business. I hope he loses business over this, I will be telling everyone I know not to come here as they just take advantage of and scam women. Genuinely the best experience I've had at a mechanic. I brought in my Hyundai thinking it had a brake issue, and after a very quick diagnosis, I was told it was actually a wheel bearing that needed to be replaced. Edward gave me a quote and honest assessment of the issue, but didn't try to pressure or scare me into getting work done immediately if I couldn't afford it. In the end, he didn't even charge for the diagnostic, even tho they took a whole tire off my car to find the problem!! Overall, Edward was honest about the severity of the issue, was welcoming and friendly, and made me feel very confident that I'd brought my car to the right place. I have come here for my oil changes twice and it's always very quick and affordable! They also check your tires & wiper fluid if you need it. I recently was having issues with my brakes and I decided to give Edward a call & he told me to bring the car in to get checked at no charge. I took it in and he physically showed me my front brakes were completely worn. Edward is very honest & helpful & does everything with a smile :) I left my car overnight and picked it up the next morning & now I can stop on a dime. I drive a 1998 Honda Civic and I normally tinkled and fixed the car by myself but yesterday I was 70 miles away from home and my car died in the middle of the road. It would not restart so I had no choice but looking around for a nearby shop. I looked up on Yelp and called around a few places. Most places did not bother to hear what I have to say, all they cared about is for me to bring the car in. The thing is once you pay to get your car towed to a shop, you are at their mercy because you can't just easily drive away. Towing is expensive. So I wanted to call and get a sense of what people are like first. Edward answered the phone and actually had a discussion about the car condition with me. I called a few other places after then decided to get the car towed to his shop. When I got there, I explained that I was stranded away from home. Edward offered to attend to my car straight away so I could get home before Friday afternoon traffic. The car was dead to the point that it would not crank any more so he charged up my battery then did his diagnostic. It turned out that the distributor was bad and had to be replaced. I have noticed that my car stumbled a bit and even stalled a couple of times the last few days, so I already guessed that it was some electrical related problem. I had put a code scanner on my car but I was not able to diagnose the problem. Edward is very experienced and was able to pin point the problem immediately. He then called up for part and gave me the price. I normally fixed my own car and know where to source for part cheaply online so I did my own check up for the distributor. Edward patiently waited for me to do my own research. I quickly realized that the price he gave me was fair. The labor he gave me was also very reasonable, so I went ahead agreeing for him to get the car fixed. He ordered the part for me but when he found out that the part delivery would not arrive until later in the afternoon, he himself went to pick it up from the supplier. He came back and his guy quickly put it together for me and it was all fixed. His diagnostic was correct and the car was fixed quickly. Before I head out, knowing that I was driving the long way, he insisted that I let him check my radiator and my oil level. Lucky that he did as my radiator was empty. He filled my radiator with coolant and sent me off my way. Before leaving, I asked if he would rebuilt my engine. I have been thinking of getting my engine rebuilt for a while because it's a very old car with ~200K milage. Edward said my engine is in a very good condition and does not need to be rebuilt and I should save the money. He could have just taken the money but instead he was honest and did not try to charge me for what I don't need. Later in the day, he called to check if I got home safely and if the car ran as I expected. It ran better than ever before. I am very glad I went with him because he was trustworthy, competent, reasonable in pricing and provided an exceptional customer service. I was in very good hands and they took good care of me. Simple and easy experience here! They were very communicative over the yelp messaging system which was super helpful. I was worried I needed some work done to my car because of the check engine light- I had fixed a couple things and he looked over some things for me and found everything to be ok. He even refasten a hose clamp I had taken off that I couldn't get back on. Ended up just getting a routine oil change, it was super fast and much calmer then my experiences at the jiffy lube down the street. Will definitely return! read more

He's always taken expert care of my cars and my family's cars - BMW, Honda, Subarus, Corvette - at competitive prices. I recently took a car to him for an alignment, knowing he did not have the machine but also knowing that he knew where to take it to get it done right. He goes above and beyond in customer service too: when I've needed it, he's given me a ride home after the drop off and he's delivered my car back to me when it's finished. When I say excellent service, I am not joking around. I needed some work done on my car. My clutch in my Acura RSX was messed up. The pedal was sticking and eventually went to the floor and wouldn't pop back up. I knew what was wrong but didn't want to attempt on my own. Found E & M and called first thing Saturday morning. Not only was he very professional over the phone, but he took the time to look at my car and look at a family members car that dropped me off. Helped them out with some advice on their car then promptly started on mine. The Master Clutch Cylinder and Clutch Slave Cylinder needed to be replaced, which is exactly what I thought, and he had this completed within a few hours. Edward was very friendly, responsive and honest. I walked in thinking I need major suspension work and a possible transmission replacement. Instead, he diagnosed the problems as a relatively inexpensive fix of the engine and strut mounts. He was careful to be upfront with any and work and fees. The work he did completely got rid of a rattle I've had misdiagnosed and have dealt with for a LONG time. The car now runs great! He breathed life into it I never thought it had! I'll also add that after the work I thought there was an issue with the belts and the A/C. Edward offered to look at it the next morning no charge. We both drove the car around. Turns out there was no problem, but I really appreciated that he wanted me as a customer to be happy. I definitely recommend him and his team and will bring my cars back in the future. I have been coming to Edwards shop for sometime now and his service is always great! My Ford Escape shut down one evening as I was leaving work. I took my car to his shop and he quickly diagnosed the next morning that I needed to change my alternator. He fixed my car and changed my oil quick (because it was that time) and gave me a really great price! I had my boyfriend pick up my car and Edward does a great job at explaining what was wrong with the car to begin with. He makes sure that you are taken care of and does not try to take advantage of your situation like other mechanics. Living in the area, I drove by this shop many times. I noticed it but it was always in passing. After reading the reviews here on Yelp, I decided to stop in early last Saturday to see if they could figure out what the strange noise coming from the front suspension of my car was. Trust me when I say that I have taken my vehicle to many shops in the area and while they all hear the noise, no one has been able to diagnose what is causing it or repair it. ...that is until I met Edward. Edward immediately got my car on a rack and along with his mechanic performed one of the most thorough under carriage inspections I have seen. After the inspection, Edward indicated everything seemed to be fine. He took it on a test drive and like so many other mechanics, confirmed he heard the noise. He invited me to bring it back during the week, when he could dedicate an entire day to figuring it out. (The shop is only open until 1pm on Saturdays) I took my car in Monday and as promised towards the end of the day, Edward had figured out that it was my strut mounts. He walked me through the process to make the repairs and gave me a fair price. I got my car back today and the noise is gone! I am very impressed! Until he passed a few years back, Jim at Digitec was the only mechanic in the area that would touch my car. I think I have met the next area mechanic! Found out about Edward and E&M Auto through a referral. I had a lot of frustrating trouble with my Lexus. She is an amazing GS350 but at 12 years old, she's starting to give me a lot of trouble. And everything possible has been making noises and lights have come on. I know nothing about cars so I was at a loss as she began to fail me! I went to car place I will not name that wanted to charge me literally an arm and a leg for it around $3600 to pass smog. And even then they gave no guarantees. I almost sold Lexy until I took my car in for one last opinion. Edward not only quoted me 2000 less he also guaranteed it to pass smog which it did! He was helpful, constantly answering his personal cell and keeping me updated. He even kept my car while I was on vacation and I picked it up when I got back. It was perfectly fixed, clean and we even went on a test drive. He explained what he had fixed instead of shooing me off with paperwork and charges. He also explained when I needed to get my brakes changed and restored my confidence that other than routine work, my Lexy would continue to run well for years to come. Warning other customers before considering having your vehicle repair or maintenance here. The owner is unreliability and untrustworthy. I came to him previously after paying the full amount to have my engine and fuel tank fixed. After 8 months, the gas tank leaks while the vehicle is running. Even by having an invoice, he decline to help me without recieving payment for his services. After having my car inspected at this location, my vehicle undergone serious malfunctions, to the point where I had to take it to the dealership to repair it. I was aware I only had P3025 code several days before bringing it to this automotive repair shop. However, I was completely unaware of having a P1705 code until after the inspection at the dealership. I like to include a thank you to Edward for replacing my engine with aftermarket spark plugs after claiming to replace them with actual sparkplugs bought from the dealership. read more
