I have gone to several smog shops throughout the AV. This shop is hands down the best shop in town. Other shops tend to take a long time while you are stuck sitting in a hot building with no AC. It was that time of year again to get smogged. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete my smog on the initial visit as my car presented with an engine code due to recent auto repair. AV Smog was very nice and suggested that I contact the DMV so that they would hopefully extend my renewal. I was able to return some time later and successfully got my car smogged. Female Friendly! There are a couple of things you can do to get fair service as a woman when you go to a mechanic. 1) Secretly be a mechanic so you know everything they do, or 2) bring a man with you, like your dad/husband to do it for you. But at AV Smog, the man is already there for you. You don't even have to bring your own. AJ just does his job honestly, fairly, etc. I was able to get my car to pass smog the first time with AJ, vs another smog center who insinuated that I may have to slip him some cash to get the car to clear. I cannot praise AV Smog on Sierra Hwy enough. I had spent 4 weeks trying to get my smog checked at another place, but kept being told that my monitors weren't ready. I had one left that wasn't clearing. I told AJ this on the phone before I came over. He said to bring it in and he'd check the monitors before we started. It got the same reading. I had driven 800 miles at $6.89 a gallon trying to get all the monitors to clear for the other guy. When AJ showed me the evaporative system monitor still wasn't ready, I sighed and figured I'd continue car shopping. AJ quickly let me know that the evaporative monitor doesn't have to clear to pass smog. AJ is a Rockstar! Even after telling him my sob story, I was still done in about 15 minutes. I'm so grateful and pleased with AV Smog! As for the other place...I'm angrier than a mosquito in a mannequin factory! read more
