My puppy was seen at another local vet for a swollen leg and was prescribed a medication that caused vomiting which turned into aspiration pneumonia. She started declining quickly in a 24 hour period. By the time I got her to AV vet she was in critical condition. They kept her on oxygen with breathing treatments and medications. This used to be my go to vet but after COVID and restrictions were lifted and all seemed "normal" it's been extremely hard to be seen. I can never make an appointment because they're always fully booked up somehow, walk ins are never guaranteed and have hours long waits and oh when you call them and they say to come in and then you show up and all of a sudden it's "oh the vet is going into surgery we're not doing patient intake rn" like??? Then why say to come in??? They could've told me that on the phone. Then giving me the option of an appointment then telling me that they're all booked up. Worst vet ever. read more

I brought my cat in on a Saturday night with a cut paw. The front office staff and the vet tech were great - No complaints there. The waiting area was clean and attractive, and I was hoping that my experience would end up being better than the ones I read in reviews. The tech came in and gave me the info - I told him to go ahead with some of what was on the list and to take some off the bill. No problem. I waited in the room and in not too long of a waiting time, the tech came back with my cat. I asked him some questions and then asked when I would see the vet. He seemed surprised by my request, but I persisted. Isn't that typical, meeting with the vet, usually before and after a procedure? I already hadn't met with him before, but I insisted now. Well, this doctor came out and practically barked at me, "What's your question?" I said I had a few, and mentioned the things that the vet tech had told me. He immediately contradicted me, without explanation.. Practically yelling, "No peel! It's cut, cut!!!" Okay, that's not what the vet tech told me, but obviously I wasn't going to get more out of this guy who seemed like he would leave me if I didn't keep his attention. So I asked about the after care, to which he again contradicted the vet tech and the paperwork I had in front of me. He said something about one week, while the paperwork said 2-3 days. After the vet answered and before I could get my thoughts together, he left. I don't think I"m explaining this experience well.. But I have NEVER had such a negative feeling for a vet in my life. He was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. I grabbed my cat and left. If he's this rude to people, do you really want him caring for your beloved pets? Not I. I'll drive to the San Fernando Valley next time one of my pets needs care. If it's a true emergency, please let this not be the only 24-hour vet within a quick driving distance. read more

I've been here for service help twice, about a year ago my baby girl Calico Audrey 2 passed away and we had her cremated. All the staff was polite and the place was clean. We went there late around midnight. The second time we went there was August 24th, 2022 around 2am. We were rushing our cat Cloud because he was dying on us, my bf kept trying to do compressions while I drove but when we got there it was too late he had already passed away. We were so heartbroken and crying and the staff that helped us were very sympathetic and understanding of our pain. We lost another family member that morning and it was awful, but what helped was that they were very nice and helpful in our time of need. They even gave us a Lil bottle of his hair my bf had requested to remember him by. They also printed his Lil paws on a card that was very sweet. The cost was $319 of the cremation we went with. I picked up his ashes today. His ashes were in a wooden box that came in a blue velvet bag. (A name tag for the box) We also got a paw print in clay (I think) and a certificate. read more

I just called to make an appointment for the second in the series of my puppy vaccines because this is the vet who gave him his first vaccine, and I thought it best to complete them here, even though it is far from my house. The receptionist told me that they had a new policy, whereby they refuse to give vaccines to "new" patients without getting paid for an unnecessary exam. I pointed out that he wasn't a new patient, as they had administered his first vaccine set, having already provided the Client ID which she had no problem locating in her computer, under my puppy's name. She still refused to give my puppy his 2nd shot, repeating the phrase "it's just our policy" to my pointing out the obvious contradiction that my puppy was not a new patient, and had started with them before the policy. I can well afford the $25 for the unnecessary exam, but I have a vet of my own, and I can't stand veterinarians who find ways to extort money from responsible pet owners. I was just looking to drive out of my way to keep my puppy's shots consistent, but I won't be blackmailed. Also, the original paperwork has a note from them to get the second shot 12/7/19, and the receptionist said it was due 12/12/19. I asked why another vet had told me that the second in the series of puppy shots could only be given one day early, or 4 days late. The receptionist informed me that the timing of all puppy shots is subjective, and differs among every veterinarian. I'm not feeling the confidence that this is an accurate statement. Either they need to be on a schedule, or they don't. The receptionist also tried to hide behind liability issues while attempting to extort more money, saying my puppy may have a bad reaction to their vaccine, even though they already administered his first vaccine. I'm starting to see why Parvo is such a problem in the AV. I would pass on this Vet. The comment implies I am a new patient who does not understand the policy as it was explained to me. Approximately a week after surgery she began physical therapy at Zen Den, which is affiliated with AV Vet Center, and today marked her final day of therapy because she has recovered almost 100% in just 2 months! This doesn't seem real. My 12 year old female Boston terrier (Benny) was bit by a rattlesnake Wednesday night (2 days ago). That night I noticed my dog was very tense, wouldn't respond well to her name, her hair was standing up and she passed stool in our house (which is rare). I went outside and discovered the rattlesnake. It clicked. I knew she was bit and we had to drop what we were doing and go to the vet. Within 35 minutes of the bite we had her at the vet. On our way we called the emergency line and informed the lady we were en-route with our bitten dog, she didn't hesitate to tell me it is a 2,000$ starting fee to began rattlesnake treatment, Wonderful do it... As we arrived she was still passing stool on me and foaming out her mouth. After they took her in, about 35-40 minutes later they came outside and informed us that they did find a bit on the head. They said they would be hooking her up to an iv and testing Blood to see where the venom was. 40 minutes go by and they now inform us that her kidney levels are bad and they diagnose her with kidney disease. I was thinking ok, they found that but they are going to treat the rattlesnake bite on top of that right? No. They now say there is no signs of a rattlesnake bite, and she just has kidney disease. But, but, but, I just killed a rattlesnake in my backyard and on my security camera I can see her (benny) go right where I discovered the snake? So how is that possible? The snake gave her kidney disease which caused instant symptoms??? It wasn't adding up. They said they were going to keep her for 2-3 days and monitor her. We agreed. 24 hours later her kidney levels are starting to come down which is good however, she isn't eating and hasn't passed stool, They are also noticing swelling on her face. They offer treatment for the swelling which of course is more Money, We agree to it. This morning, Friday 9/17/21, they call us and say she is swelling pretty bad on her face (Remember they told us she was bit on the face when we first arrived 2 days prior). They come to the conclusion that she is indeed suffering from a rattlesnake bite. They want another 2600$ to treat it. I remember calling and telling them that my dog was bit by a rattlesnake and they did say $2000 to start treatment, now it will be another $2600 to do treatment where did my other $2000 go? I was so irritated with the service here, we pulled her from that vet and took her to another vet right away. The other vet couldn't believe it. All the signs for a rattlesnake bite were clear as day, why did it take them over 24 hours to come to the conclusion? The venom was already throughout her body at this time, as many of you know, the longer A rattlesnake bite goes untreated the worse it gets, well, I learned that to be true today. My healthy, beautiful Boston terrier went to doggy heaven this morning because of the actions from the people at this place. If she would've gotten treated the second I brought her in, I truly believe she would be sitting on my lap as I type a 5 star review for this place. I paid 2000$ for them to treat my dog for a rattlesnake bite, they wanted me to pay, again. This is downright unacceptable and a hard pill to swallow. read more

10/10 recommend. I had to bring my cat in due to a health issue he was having and was seen at a different vet. From the initial phone call to when we arrived and I left it was the best experience one could ask for in such a horrible situation. Both the ladies in the front and the nurse I dealt with were extremely empathetic and informative/supportive. I unfortunately had to lay my sweet boy to rest and the staff gave me as much time as I needed to say my goodbyes as well as offered condolences. I called after I left to see if they could do a nose print and a few days later I was able to pick up a nose print as well as fur clippings from my baby. I could go on and on about my experience but I want to thank the staff for being so empathetic and caring and trying their very best. I brought my dog here in the early morning hours because she was clearly, suddenly, very ill. Tests were recommended that I quickly agreed to, with what I can only describe as strange results. Immediate surgery was strongly pushed (between $5,000 and $7,000). While I would gladly have paid the bill, the diagnosis of a "fuzzy appearing spleen" didn't strike confidence in me and I made the decision to move my girl to a more modern, better equipped emergency surgical center an hours drive away. I called asking for her records, such as they were, to be transferred to the other veterinary center and was told they wouldn't do that until my dog had been released from their "care". Moving those records in a timely fashion was important to the continuum of care my dog was going to receive and this clinic's refusal to cooperate was unconscionable. In checking my dog out, I was treated like a negligent pet owner for refusing emergency surgery on flimsy reasoning. I didn't need the lecture, especially based on the substandard diagnostics. At a different, more advanced veterinary surgery center, additional reasonable tests showed that my dog likely would not have survived surgery. If she had, the hours remaining on her life would have been filled with the pain of recovery from a surgery that there was no ethical reason to begin. This is something that AV should have known and something the advanced surgical center saw right away. We have pet insurance and I would have gladly paid to help my dog survive. Sadly, it was not in her best interest, and the surgical team agreed that it was not ethical to continue. She was stabilized and sent home. I brought her home to spend a little time with her before losing her and she was humanely euthanized by our regular vet that morning. While I am at peace with my decision as being the very best thing for my girl, I am angry at AV Veterinary Center for wasting my time and trying to badger me into unnecessary, unethical, and likely unsurvivable surgery on a dog who had an aggressive cancer (hemangiosarcoma) that had metastasized to multiple organs and the tumors had begun to bleed. If your emergency can't wait, this place will do the job. But if you can wait, go elsewhere. This place bleeds you dry. This isn't this first time I'm let down by this place. But this has by far been the worst time. My sister and I took her cat, Zelda, to be put down. After a year of exhaustive, expensive and emotionally draining care, Zelda was no longer responding the the care. She was found collapsed, gasping for air with her ears and gums blue. Now she couldn't go longer than an hour without being on oxygen. We went to AV Veterinary Center, only to be told the doctor didn't feel comfortable putting her down, without running tests, first of which was a $260 X-ray. Zelda had been there on 2 occasions, originally January 2020, her records were available and her condition was chronic. We spoke to the tech over this, but unfortunately she wasn't in charge, Dr. Sandhu, who didn't show his face once, was. Then, even though he didn't do what we asked, we were charged $50, all for what...for administering some oxygen? Shortly after, our baby collapsed again. She struggled, suffered, until we could get her to North Valley to be put down. She suffered unnecessarily, that's the last image we have of our baby. read more

I took my dog there because his penis wouldn't go back in. After waiting 3 hours in the car, the vet said he didn't see anything wrong with his penis. But prescribed all different types of medications and said it could be allergies. After a month nothing changed after giving the prescribed medication so I took them to a different vet. They saved my dog's life. I'd give them a thousand stars if I could. It was a Monday and we were on our normal evening walk along the trails by our house when he was bitten by a rattlesnake that was hiding in a bush. We had no idea it was there. It never even rattled until after it bit him. We called our usual vet in a panic and they said to bring him here. The staff was kind, sympathetic, and expedient with his care. He stayed the night there so they could administer treatment and monitor his condition. He responded well and we brought him home Tuesday night. He was in noticeable pain and very swollen and red all over his abdomen due to the snake biting him in the chest. Within 24 hours he was showing remarkable signs of improvement. By Friday he was almost back to his usual happy and playful self with hardly any swelling and no more red. By the following Monday, a week from the bite, you would never even know it had happened if not for the shaved areas on his chest and legs. Enough can't be said about how much my family and I appreciate this place. After a terrible experience at Mission Animal Hospital in Palmdale I was nervous about receiving care for our corgi puppy. This was by far the best experience I have ever had with a vet. Our puppy had a MASSIVE abscess on her throat and required that it was drained and operated on a few days later. She was under great care, I received phone calls regarding her status, and when we visited our pup they you could tell that Mercy (our pup) had formed a bond with each of the nurses. Jessica, Amber, Katie, Robert, and Christie were all fantastic with the communication and did a wonderful job of keeping us calm. It's so wonderful to have Mercy home and although she is still recovering from her stitches she's more of herself everyday. HUGE THANK YOU TO DR. SANDU. My dog had a terrible and painful reaction to some food I had been feeding him. Dr Alex was wonderful about explaining the allergies (which can affect 'ears and rears') and gave my dog care at a reasonable price. It was a very busy weekend and we knew the wait would be long, but there was good communication with us the whole time. While we were waiting I could see some other pets being brought in who were really having medical emergencies with the owner quite distraught and the staff was just incredibly compassionate. If I could give these uneducated women who work at this location a zero star, I would! God forgive me because I do not leave negative reviews or talk badly about anyone, but this location hires women who have no background or education and it shows. The fact that this location even has a printed document stating they will not tolerate disrespectful manner PROVES how awful this establishment is and how awful their services are. I have a 4 month old puppy who was admitted for swallowing a foreign object, which protocol should call, "an emergency" however, they made me wait 30 minutes to have him admitted. I waited one hour to be told x rays weren't done. I waited 2 hours to be told NOTHING WAS done. Got a call stating xrays were completed after 3 hours and the doctor will call me back after lunch break (in 30 min) I waited an hour and decided to call since it had been well over 30 minutes, and what do you know, the doctor is in surgery. So I'm still waiting at this point. I waited a while longer and called back for an update (however they suck at picking up their phones) and you should know, 5 women were all sitting at the front desk I received different information from 3 different women. One said xrays weren't done after I received a call stating that they were completed. Another said the doctor was on lunch while someone else told me she was in surgery. Four hours pass and they tell me there's nothing seen in the xrays but he'll need to stay overnight. I (who am not a vet tech) but have a brain, already knew something was clearly made visible on xrays due to the fact that staying overnight was requested. However, the tech said they just want to monitor him over night to make sure "all is well" At this point, I'm tired, hungry, scared and mom mode is on. I decided to wait till the doctor was done with surgery (no matter how long it took) to confirm that something was in fact, VISIBLE in the X-ray and the doctor finally confirms with me at 5pm that something was visible on xrays, which is why staying overnight was requested. I am by NO MEANS, complaining about the doctors. They were respectful, professional and very informative on the calls they made, which made it easy to cope with the fact that he would be staying over night. However, this post is intended to reach the women who all seem very educated and very....trashy/slum. I hope they read this and reflex on their personalities and try to better themselves as women. Maybe even going back to school would do a ton for them. Today it's 9:02am and I'm still in bed (I've been calling since 8am) and no one has answered my phone calls. I had my husband call with his number and they finally picked up his call which proves they were solely ignoring mine. I'm a medical student at Columbia University, so medical terminology isn't foreign to me, but these women just blabber away and have no clue what they're talking about. In the middle of a conversation, one of the technicians made a few statements that made absolutely zero sense and left me baffled to the point where I couldn't say a word but look directly at them with stupidity on my face due to theirs. These women have zero clue on what professionalism means, and they certainly don't look or act as such. The treatment I received was terrible, you guys. I am never this rude of a person but something needs to be done and something certainly has to be said. I hope the owner reads this and does something about their service because I can assure you, I will never bring my pet here, ever again. I have been coming to this place for years. Every time, I have been treated fairly and my dogs were well cared for. I have noticed that for some reason, during the Covid19 lock down, there are WAY more cars in their parking lot than before. I guess because everyone's home now and more people are getting into trouble with their dogs? Since there are a lot more people, the wait times have gone way up. However, one time my little rescue bully, who has severe allergies, got an insect bite by his eye and the right side of his face swelled up. We ended up there around 5:30 am. No other patients were in the parking lot and they came and got him immediately and took care of him. Another time, my senior beagle decided to jump off the couch from the armrest and land on the side of his head. We rushed him over there in the middle of the day and even though the parking lot was full, when we told them what had happened, they immediately came out and got him in for an initial exam. Then they brought him back out and told me that he seemed ok and if I wanted xrays and further testing and exams conducted, I would have to wait about 5 hours. I was advised to take him home and keep an eye on him. And they gave me a list of things to look out for and told me to bring him back if any of those happened. He was fine. That process seemed fair to me given that I wasn't the only one there with a dog who needed medical attention. Two weeks ago, we had to put our senior shepherd to sleep because he had reached that point where his quality of life had been compromised. For this we did not have to wait very long. And every one we dealt with throughout this ordeal were so very kind and compassionate. From the receptionist I spoke to on the phone who explained the whole process, to the two veterinary technicians who came out to the car and helped us get him inside with a stretcher and then put in his catheter, to the veterinarian who administered the lethal drugs. They were also so very patient with us and let us sit with him for as long as we wanted before and after his drugs were administered. Before the drugs, while we were loving on him, he fell asleep on his bed that we brought in to keep him as comfortable as possible throughout the process. He did not even know when his drugs were administered because he was fast asleep. Although this was a very sad day for us, it went as well as one could have hoped.
