Finally tried Ava June and loved it. Believe the owner of this place also owns Lofi and owned Hodges Bend, which I love as well. This spot hits the same as those two if not better. Has the focaccia bread and butter that was killer and the trout that was great. Wife loved her steak. My waitress was cool and really helped explain the menu. Our first time dining at Ava June was wonderful! I'm so glad we chose it for our Valentine's celebration -- it's been on my list for quite a while. We started with champagne, and my husband ordered a Bee's Knees cocktail, which paired perfectly with our crab claw appetizer, served with a remoulade and spicy cocktail sauce. Spencer, the sommelier, guided us to a beautiful wine -- an Ashes & Diamonds Cabernet Franc -- and it was excellent. For our entrée, we had the steak frites, it was cooked perfectly. We chose the filet-cut and came with a delicate Beurre Blanc sauce, the fries, were crispy and delicious, especially with the Dijon aioli. The service was exceptional and warm/friendly. Nicky was our server and she was very kind. We're already looking forward to coming back to try the beef bourguignon, and the burger looked amazing as well. We splurged a bit and went recently to celebrate my wife's birthday. The two of us went on a Thursday night and had a reservation, and while restaurant wasn't very full, the bar was packed the entire time we were there. It was a bit noisy due to that combined with with apparently some odd acoustics in the building. If the menu prices scare you, go for appetizers and drinks; the bar is absolutely spectacular! Whomever created and executed the concept should be given special kudos as it's beautiful (and I've been in a bar or three in my 64 years)! We're kinda connoisseurs of Old Fashioned's and theirs was SPOT ON, ranking near the top in T-town in our experience (see above)!! The menu is very interesting with some unique offerings. We decided to split a combination of items to sample the menu. The charred cabbage is AMAZING!! If you like cabbage at all you'll love it, and if you don't, this might bring you to the other side!! We also had the braised beef bourguignon and the spicy snap peas; both were delicious!! My only disappointment was that there was no recognition of our celebration, which I kinda felt shorted on given the amount of money we spent. The sommelier stopped by but we chose not to drink wine. We ordered the items highlighted and they were all on point. The best salad with olives was light while the cabbage but warm and hearty. May be the best schnitzel we've ever had and a great first impression to monkfruit fish with couscous and African inspired beans. The setting is warm but not too dark or uppity. Best food from our trip to tulsa so far! I had a croissant souffle florentine--awesome. Perfectly seasoned, buttery, fluffy, and delicious. Husband had the pork belly poutine. That sauce was heavenly. We brought leftovers and had the whole extended family try it. Everyone loved it. The cheese curds were perfect as well (I lived in Minnesota before, I have a valid opinion lol). And the fries soaked up that gravy very well. 11/10 recommending to all our tulsa friends. Started out with the caviar service and honestly it was probably the best caviar we've had in Tulsa, which we understand is not saying much, but we would highly recommend! This was definitely a highlight for us! We had the bread and butter and honestly this was probably the most underwhelming item of the night. The focaccia was a little tough but the butter was delicious! The French onion soup was absolutely incredible. Literally no notes. We will be getting this again if possible! We read lots of reviews about the charred cabbage and boy it did not disappoint! What an experience! I didn't know that cabbage could have that much flavor! Honestly i've been here 3 times now and the first 2 times were really good! Good food.. but this time service was not good at all. Our waitress "Julie" was rude from the moment we sat down. Me and my party thought we were misreading the situation/ mis understanding her. But then we get out our cakes out and she says "i need to clean off this table and now these are in the way.." proceeds to sigh obnoxiously and then walk away. every time we needed something which wasn't much because she would run off immediately she seemed to have a problem with it. Easily one of the top 5 culinary experiences in town, Ava June blends fresh flavors, French sensibilities and comfort foods into a magical dining experience. We made last minute reservations for a birthday on a Sunday and had little issue getting in for an early dinner. The servers were knowledgeable of the menu, attentive and honest in their opinions. It may be the first time in my life when asking for a recommendation a server didn't default to the more expensive option to help pad their tip. The restaurant itself has a refined and classy feel to it without wandering into stuffy. Listings on open table say it's business casual but we found it to be very come as you are as long as you're clean and presentable. Their mocktail menu was great, with actual NA spirits on it, more than just beers, but the beer and cocktail menu is impressive. If I had to be nit-picky about the experience the one thing I'd critique would be that our reservation indicated a special celebration, but the restaurant didn't do anything to acknowledge it. I know it sounds petty, but there's something special about a piece of cake with a candle or a celebratory cocktail at your birthday meal, and far lower end places provide that little touch. read more

We got reservations pretty easily. The waitress gave us great recommendations, and she was very friendly. I had the Pork Schnitzel, and my wife had Beef Bourguignon both with a Petit Salad. The pork schnitzel was very good. The meat was juicy and well seasoned. It had kind of a sweet sauce on top and it was really a great contrast with the sauerkraut. But it was just a little too sweet for me and I kind of got tired of it. I think I would rather have the sauce on the side and then I could measure it out how I needed to. My wife had Beef Bourguignon. It was really good also. She ate most of it, but it was just super rich so she couldn't finish. I had a few bites, but it was a little dry. I think we could've used a little bit more sauce. But no fault of theirs I think it was a really good dish. I just kept thinking all night. I wish we had some bread. We kind of laughed because they had bread and butter as a shareable appetizer but it was $17 lol. The space is stunning. The seating is comfortable and tables are nice. Our waitress was pleasant albeit a bit aloof. I asked for the remainder of my meal to be boxed but had to ask after paying the check if it would return. Focaccia appetizer was good. The bread that it's served with is tasty and it's a generous portion. There were four of us so I'd have preferred that they send four pieces of bread as opposed to just three. All of our meals were good. The mushrooms with the chicken were cooked prefect and very flavorful. The steak frites were overall good. The steak was cooked perfectly and very tender -- however the sauce was a bit lackluster. It could have been richer and more flavorful. WOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMEND. This is probably the worst service I've had in a very long time. The waitresses were just nonexistent and would stand in the corner talking the whole time. We tried multiple times to raise our hands to get their attention and couldn't even get a glance. Taking 2 hours for lunch or dinner at a restaurant is not normal in Tulsa so this can tell you how slow it was. The food was good but that's all they've got going for them. before coming to a spot, i usually look up the menu to prepare myself when i come in. when saw the steel cut oats, it stood out to me b/c i often have oatmeal at home. coming with roasted pineapple, toasted coconut, allspice butter & honey... it definitely doesn't taste the same i make at home. super duper good to the point i can still taste it over 24 hours later. that allspice butter was the winner, i can taste + smell it in every bite, wasn't overbearing at all. i enjoyed the roasted pineapple, never had the fruit that way before, looked candied & had a nice sweetness to it. we ordered drip coffee, they were making some fresh so instead of us waiting, we were given americanos (which was absolutely fine). the coffee was really strong & had me buzzing. a nice size, i wanna say it was a 12 oz mug. i tried a little of my partner's order, the house tartine & it was pretty good. they had a mango & matcha chia pudding that i want to try & was the other option that gave me a hard time before rolling with the oats. the service was great. i remember the servers name & didn't catch the spelling, he was really on point. all-around enjoyed ourselves & will be back. the same spot where palace cafe used to be at. read more

I've always had a soft spot for a good French bistro, and Ava June fits the bill perfectly. Housed in the former Palace restaurant space, it now feels like a spot you could stumble upon in Paris's 7th arrondissement--elegant yet inviting. The rooms are lovely throughout, especially the bar where we chose to sit. The menu is a pleasure to read--one of those rare cases where nearly everything tempts you, making it hard to choose. We began with the "petite salade," which was anything but small. Generous enough for two to share, it's easily one of the best salad bargains in town at just $9. For mains, we couldn't resist ordering both the funeral rolls and the croque madame. Our server, Blaine--who provided excellent service all during brunch--promised the funeral rolls would be the best hot ham and cheese sandwiches we'd ever tasted. He wasn't exaggerating. They arrived warm, gooey, and utterly satisfying. As for the croque madame, I've tried more than a few in my day, and Ava June's holds its own with the very best--rich, balanced, and beautifully executed with a perfect runny egg on top. Dining Seafood Tower The seafood tower is where Ava June hits its stride, showcasing the best of its in-house raw bar. Each tier offers chilled, impeccably fresh selections that lean into the natural sweetness and salinity of the sea. At the top, a well-balanced tuna crudo stood out -- delicate, clean, and thoughtfully seasoned and at a fantastic price point. Warm Rosemary Focaccia The rosemary bread stands out with excellent aeration and a beautifully grilled char. The accompanying butter strikes a balanced note between salty and sweet, while the radish adds depth and a refined touch to this elegant take on bread and butter. Escargot The escargot is perfectly cooked with a tender texture. Mild chorizo and herbs introduce the dish, followed by the earthy richness of the snails and delicate end notes of anise. However, the Pernod is not fully cooked out, leaving a strong, lingering bitterness that overwhelms the palate and persists when soaked into the bread. Pork Belly Confit The pork belly opens with a rich, fatty flavor, giving way to sweet middle notes of apple and cider, balanced by a hint of bitterness from the frisée. A solid rendition overall, though a few pieces leaned dry from over braising. Charred Cabbage An absolute standout and a classic Tack. My wife and I visited Ava June for our 30th anniversary and left disappointed. Service was fair at best. Our server never asked if it was our first visit or offered menu recommendations after we said we were unfamiliar -- even when we asked a few questions. We didn't order wine or alcohol (we don't drink), and that's when service began to lag. A couple seated behind us were greeted warmly; their server asked if they were celebrating and offered recommendations. About halfway through our meal our server (Christopher, I believe) largely checked out, and the other waitress began attending to our table. She refilled our water and iced tea a couple times, but overall we felt overlooked by Christopher. At the end of the meal we were given the check with a dessert menu added as an afterthought; our card was taken a few minutes later without being asked if we wanted anything else. The receipt was dropped off and that was it. The food was okay, but the inconsistent attention -- especially the apparent difference in service based on drink orders -- left a sour note for our special occasion. read more

We arrived a bit earlier than our reservation and were told we could be seated because it was going to be a busy night and they needed to turn tables quickly. While we appreciated being seated early that's not something that really needs to be said to guests. It also seemed that our waitress wasn't aware we had been seated early or that they were trying to turn tables quickly as it took quite a while for her to come to the table with water. Throughout the meal, we often had empty plates pushed to the side assuming that would signal we were finished and ready to be checked on but she walked past our table multiple times without stopping even while tending to other tables. Toward the end of the meal, we wanted dessert. Our table was completely cleared and we sat waiting while she stood at the hostess stand chatting with a coworker then seated another couple. We assumed she would come to us next but instead she went to two other tables before finally coming over and asking if we were ready for the check. I told her we actually wanted dessert but weren't sure if she was coming back since she had passed us several times without checking in. She apologized and said it had gotten busy though at that moment it did not appear busy and she had just been standing at the hostess stand. I'm a very easygoing and understanding person so this was especially disappointing. We were excited to try Ava June! We made a reservation and I highly recommend you do so. It is darling on the inside and the overall ambiance was lovely. However, it seemed to be LOUD in there. Not because of music but maybe just an echo? Either way, just something to note. Service was great. Our server, Nate, was attentive and knowledgeable. All of the staff seemed friendly. The food was good. Just good. We ordered the rosemary focaccia and it was nice, and the butter was very good. The radishes were a nice touch. We had a ChouChou cocktail and the raspberry syrup in it was divine. Then we ordered the 8oz iron steak frites. The steak was tasty but was certainly not hot. I wish the temperature would have been higher but the sauce was delicious. The fries were great! Seasoned well and tasty. We also ordered the short rib. The short rib itself was excellent and the temperature was great. However the temperature on the polenta wasn't great, which is truly a shame because it tasted great. Overall, it was good. Food was alright, but not special. Noise levels make the atmosphere terrible for conversation and actually becomes annoying after about 30 minutes. Generally the service was very good. Our wait person was great, but it took the kitchen 30 minutes to fix a mistake on a side dish at our table. Dinner was over when it arrived so we refused the late plate. The check then came charging us for two of the plates that were late. The good news is that the manager took care of fixing that erroneous charge. The service was some of the most courteous I've encountered, and the food is obviously intentional and (goes almost without saying) fantastic. Ava June was hot on a Saturday night! With that, reservations were made for 8:15. We were not able to get to our table right away. The bar was full and they do not allow standing room because there are seated tables in the bar area as well. The hostess was pleasant and took a drink order. That order was not filled. 5 stars....WHY Here is the WHY THEY WERE SO BUSY! Staff was pleasant and accommodating in anyway they could. As soon as seats opened at the bar we were able to snag two. We got the drinks we initially ordered, a provencal old fashioned and scotch, with the hostess. Drinks were stiff but very good. We had enough time to people watch and chat. We were updated regularly about the wait for our table and as soon as they had a table open we were seated. Again, so pleasant, apologetic, and accommodating. Once seated we were given time to look over the menu. I had viewed it online earlier so I had an idea of what I wanted. The menu is heavy on the seafood side, and I'm not a fan. There are options for those of us that seafood is not our first preference. At the table we decided on a bottle of wine. They just sold the last bottle! They again accommodated the shortage and split the different of another bottle. It was delicious and paired perfectly with the filet. My date wanted the beef bourguignon....they had also run out of that. My date also got the filet. Both were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. After dinner we decided on dessert as well. We had an Apple tat with an ice cream. Again, it was delicious. The waitress was amazing and so pleasant. Goodness, by this time you'd think we would have been upset. Where would that have gotten us? Nowhere. Remember, staff can only do so much as well. The restaurant is fairly new and they are still working out the kinks with timing and volume. First thing we noticed was the incredible renovation job they did to convert the old Palace Cafe space into a upscale French restaurant feel. The decor around the bar is next level. We ended up having the yellowtail crudo, the funeral rolls, the cabbage appetizer, and the steak frites. Every dish was amazing but the standout was (surprisingly) the cabbage! And as a total surprise, towards the end of our meal, they must have heard us talking about our anniversary because they brought out a courtesy glass of sparkling wine for us to enjoy.
