I'll start by saying that I waited over 2 weeks for someone to return my multiple emails and calls regarding this matter before posting this review but, to date, all have gone unanswered. I called Avalanche regarding my AC system not cooling effectively and when the technician arrived I was told that they could clean the units and add some refrigerant. I gave the approval to begin the work and when I came back out to ask about how things were going, I was told that they had to add SIX pounds of refrigerant to the first system and then was told it was $150 / lb. I immediately told them to STOP and asked why they would ever put that much refrigerant in a 'closed loop' system without checking for leaks. Jacob told me that it would be $2,200 to perform a leak check and that the leaks are always at the condensers which cannot be repaired. He then went on to provide me with a quote to replace the units which came out to over $22,000. (See pic) I reluctantly paid the invoice (see pic) and called another HVAC company for a second opinion and they were shocked at my experience. They reviewed the system and performed a leak analysis for $200 and ended up finding that a compression nut was loose and already had to add 1lb of refrigerant to the system (but at only $100/lb). Furthermore, they explained that my system COMPLETELY EMPTY only holds a little over 4lbs (see pic of unit tag) and a technician should never fill a completely empty system without checking for leaks. There's no possible way 6lbs of refrigerant could be charged into this system which was actually cooling our house to prior to their arrival. There's no question that I was ripped off here. I learned an expensive lesson today. Don't trust the company just because they have good reviews online. Avalanche does not respect your time. Shows up late, then when you ask questions and try to understand what is going on with your HVAC they threaten to leave. This is after I booked them 2 weeks out and took days off work to be available to them to ask questions. They rely on you not knowing anything about HVAC. After having other HVAC companies come over to inspect their work I have found that they really did not know what they were doing. I was having an issue with a new HVAC unit making a lot of noise. I chose Avalanche to try and fix it. Andy overbooks his staff so they show up late and rush the job, throw away pieces of your HVAC system that are necessary for it to function properly, damage your house, leave a mess and then don't stand behind their work when you ask them to fix it. The way they communicate to clients is unprofessional and the team also does not communicate well to each other, which leads to problems occurring on the job. Initially they communicate great and have a great sales pitch, but once the job is booked their demeanor totally changes. All this frustration and the original problem Avalanche came to solve wasn't solved. This whole thing is probably going to cost me $4k+. It's really frustrating and all of this could have been avoided with better communication and caring about their customers, not just making as much money as they can and packing as many jobs into the week as possible. Avalanche puts profits before their customers and doesn't stand behind their work when they make mistakes. If you're reading this looking for a good HVAC company to work on your house, you don't need to read this entire review, just call Elkhorn. I hate to write a bad review for a company that I haven't gotten to speak with, but the reality is, I needed some non-emergency service done on my home and could not reach this company. I called repeatedly one day throughout the day and it kept going to voicemail; I couldn't reach anyone. Okay, maybe it's a small company, owner/operator who is really busy out on jobs, etc. That totally happens and is understandable. I called the next day a few times, same thing, and that day I left a voicemail. The next day I called again and still could not reach anyone. Now it's days later, and no one has returned my call. This leaves me wondering what I would do if I REALLY needed work done quickly and this was my go-to company. I wouldn't rely on them to answer or be able to help me. read more

I've received nothing but excellent service from Avalanche HVAC. They came out when they said they would and fixed my AC, even though they didn't install it. Great service!! Jacob came out and looked at our AC. He looked at it and stated it would take a little more time to diagnose the problem. Jake gave me a ballpark estimate. He came back a couple days later and figured out what was wrong. He and a coworker worked on our AC from like 10:00-5:00 and he returned the next day to finish. I used this company once before and Jacob came out to repair our furnace. He was great, there was no major issue and he didn't over charge. - Fast forward a few months and I decided we needed our vents cleaned. I have called them a few times and every single time I get an excuse as to why he can't schedule me right then, but he always promises "As soon as I finish, I will call and we will get you on the books" - never happens. I have to say I am very impressed. Jacob gave us a solid quote for replacement gutters and gutter guards. We decided to have the job done and with that the workmanship was great. We had some bad weather during the job in which he wasn't able to get it completed in one day, but he communicated with us throughout the process and did an exceptional job. Really awesome guys. It was easy and quick to make an appointment for an AC install. They found some electrical issues left by the builder, but were able to fix it. The pricing was fair, and they didn't charge us extra for the electrical work. My neighbors also had a wonderful experience hiring them. As a new home owner and recent Los Angeles transplant, one of the last things you want to happen is your heat to stop working during winter when you're expecting a big snowstorm that night. We called Avalanche to come out and take a look - they told my husband they would be there within half hour. They showed up, fixed the problem same day even though it meant driving to Englewood to get the part. Jon and Jacob were very kind, pleasant, and hardworking. I was so thankful they squeezed me in and by 1 pm that same day the heat was working again. Not to mention they took the old circuit board back to Andy the other owner and they called the company and found out it had a warranty! I sent an email via the Yelp app to Avalanche because of their Yelp ratings, and because they were a local CR company. I found an excessive and unusual amount of water coming from the bottom of my furnace and surrounding venting system - and I had no idea what was going on, and feared it was a leaky roof or something around the venting for the furnace. Andy called me back almost immediately, and offered to come right over, and even guessed it might be a problem with my humidifier - which I didn't even think about. Turns out he was right, and was able to fix it after a trip to a store for the faulty part. Finally a company that is honest, transparent, and trustworthy! Andy came and re-attached our humidifier and also inspected our AC. He figured out right away that the capacitor was bad and replaced it. He was very professional, very knowledgeable, he took his time to do the job right and gave me tips on how to properly care for the AC. He didn't overcharge me for the parts he needed for the humidifier, he even showed me the Home Depot receipt and added the exact amount. We are moving. We have an older furnace that works well. No issues. The family who is buying our home requested (their inspector actually did) that we have a HVAC company clean & service our furnace as part of the closing. I was quite scared after I spent an hour reading the reviews of other HVAC companies in the Douglas County area. It seems like every company gouges the prices to unsuspecting customers. I did my homework, researched furnace inspections, made sure I knew the proper terminology, etc. The majority of the companies out there had multiple bad reviews for price gouging. Avalanche Home Systems and Service, LLC had good reviews. We called them. Andy(the owner) and his son & apprentice Jacob came out today. They did the cleaning which cost $89.00 - They were very thorough. He even saved me money by giving me a few tips here and there where as other "professionals" would have charged for their advice. There was a visible crack in the blower in the induced draft blower housing. He showed me the crack. He called and got a price on the blower/housing. I asked him to order the part. He ordered the part, went and did another job in Highlands Ranch, and was back at our house 3 hours later with the part in-hand. Easy, nice, courteous, AND Andy is as honest as they come. At times it seems like there is no way out from bad customer service and getting gouged by repairmen. Take my word for it...Andy from Avalanche Home Systems can be trusted. I am a DIYer.
