Avalon's address is shown on Yelp as 595 E. Colorado Blvd., #307, Pasadena. We had been there in 2017 to arrange pre-need cremation for my wife. We ended up not going forward with Avalon because we ended up signing a pre-need contract with Rose Hills. My wife attempted to go back to Avalon's office yesterday to check out whether we had paid anything to Avalon back in 2017, but she found they were not there. She asked and found out from building management that Avalon had moved out of the building on Colorado Blvd. in 2018. I'm amazed that no one has reported this until 6 years later! Also, we tried calling both of their phone numbers and we had to leave messages on both phone numbers. No one has called us back so far. read more

I feel the need to post here as a professional how handles the care of patients before they expire, the staff at this facility is RUDE, Confrontational and unwilling to listen. They made an error on a patient's death certificate and actually wanted us to change it so they wouldn't have to ask for a new one. They called the staff liars and continuously called for the doctors signed death report after being told he was not in until the afternoon. They hung up our staff and told us we were holding up a decedent's funeral, because of the error THEY made. Please find somewhere that will treat your family member with respect, this is NOT the place. read more

Of course the passing of a loved one is a difficult time for friends and family of the deceased. Avalon Pasadena Funeral Home and Cremation made that difficult time much easier. My wife made the arrangements for her aunt. We had a service in Pasadena, as well as having her aunts body shipped out of country. We dealt with Tyrone the entire time. Tyrone is very empathetic, honest and a true professional to work with. Not only was it a nice environment; the prices are fair and Tyrone kept us informed and worked hard throughout the process. This place is the worse, they recently moved locations to Colorado Blvd very nice office but horrible service. The day our family member passed we were unable to reach anyone calling the number as well as the 800 number. The home that was taking care of our loved one was also unable to reach anyone. (WE PAID THEM FOR THEIR SERVICES) Our loved one's body was left at the home for five hours with out refrigeration due to nobody being able to get ahold of these people. We had to contact the county to pick up the body. Many hours later they sent a sister facility to pick him up, still not contacting us. Finally three days later Natalia contacted the hospice company that my grandfather paid for never calling us luckily when she called my mother was at the hospice company office. She is very unprofessional continuing to make excuses about no contact for three days as well as not having anyone on call when people pass away. We asked for our money back but Natalia refused stating that we would still have to pay for a service that was not provided. This is such a horrible company they really showed thier true colors to us and a hospice company that will probably no longer use or promote their services anymore. Don't go there whatever you do, lossing a loved one is hard enough. When service is paid for and not received it makes it even harder. read more

Incredibly rude and disrespectful when I contacted them about helping with a loved one's remains. If they can't be polite and respectful over the phone with a grieving family member I can only imagine the care they provide to the deceased when no one is looking. This type of work requires at least a semblance of empathy, none exists here. read more

We live in San Diego and sadly and suddenly our Son who lived in Pasadena passed away at 45. We called Avalon, biggest mistake we ever made. Being we weren't local, had to communicate via email or telephone, we weren't treated with much compassion or respect. They didn't return phone calls, quoted erroneous prices for cremation, it was the worst experience I've ever encountered. Gone are the days that these places actually care. They gave us a variety of choices so we could have the kind of service that my mother wanted. I have no complaints. All of their arrangements were completed in a timely manner. We had initiated a folder for my wife's step-mother several years ago. Therefore, when the time came to execute our requirements, every thing proceeded smoothly. Tyrone was our point of contact and he saw that everything was done in a timely and professional manner. We were kept informed as the process rolled out. We opted for a direct cremation and found that the the price was very reasonable. The key to a successful service is careful pre-planning. We received everything we asked for and it was delivered on the schedule that was promised. The only down part of the experience was the unacceptable condition of the facilities. Management needs to do signficant work to bring the facilities up to a satisfactory condition. However, since we did not need the use of the facility itself, this had little impact on us. read more

i am giving Avalon "0" Stars... The passing of a family member, in this case, our beloved Mother is a very sensitive time... We are all grieving and want nothing, but to say our goodbyes and put her to rest... My Mother suffered for many years with her illness, we know that she is in a better place and wanted the opportunity to grieve and say our last goodbyes... Since the beginnings our dealing with Avalon(08/16/16), Natalia E Santisteban, was the first contact, did nothing but get things wrong or confuse our family... This is our first experience with having to plan a funeral... I personally live in another State and was soo confused as to what was being told to my siblings... When I got to California and tried to understand what was being told to my siblings, it just did not make any sense,,, (08/18/16) I was the one able to go the office where I met with Tyrone... Tyrone greeted me with a gentle, compassionate, demeanor... He was super attentive, offered water, a box of tissues, he explained the contract that Natalia had gone over with one of my siblings and found that if i had not been there to clarify, we would not have had a traditional service concluding with cremation, my mother would have been directly cremated (i then called my sibling to advise)! Tyrone, then took his time and calmly explained the difference between a traditional service concluding with cremation and direct cremation, at this point i was getting a good understanding, then Natalia got there in a panic, basically took over and "shooed away", Tyrone, telling him that she was taking over... Natalia's explanation threw me through a loop, again, Tyrone was trying to let her know what we discussed and basically told him that she was taking over... Tyrone went to give her a bottle of water and she on defense mode, told him she had this and continued to confuse me, Tyrone gave her a print of what he had discussed with me and she dismissed him, again! I can honestly tell you that i got nothing but confused and stressed by the way she was with her staff and me and my family! Tyrone and Alex had to leave for a "Monthly Birthday" service they do at convalescent homes... i made sure to let Natalia know what an amazing job Tyrone did with explaining everything to me, even when asking the same question over and over... Natalia did compliment Tyrone saying the he does do a good job and families love him (at that point i left a nervous wreck because of demeanor)... Tyrone took over from (around) that point, but Natalia was always involved in one way or another... When it came to the day the funeral... The company was late... One of my siblings was talking to Natalia about it... Natalie was rude, loud, and disrespectful in front of everyone around... The Nice lady at the Church (in charged of these "event plannings") was hurting for my family, because of the way Natalia was acting and treating us or Tyrone... She too talked to Natalia about her behavior that day... When i arrived at the Church, Tyrone and another gentleman were preparing my mother for the service and i started to approach the coffin and Natalia bombarded me... Natalia was trying to explain what was going on and trying to defend herself (Tyrone was trying to hint to her to basically, this is not the time and she continued)... I was over dealing with her completely... i walked passed her to my mother's coffin... She followed and continued to talk and make comments (again, Tyrone is trying to hint to her to stop), Natalia eventually went away... Tyrone stayed throughout the services and offered his assistance...(09/12/16) I called Avalon and talk to Alex and advised him that i need to talk to someone above Natalia, Alex told me that she is the owner, i asked to talk to Tyrone... Alex stated that Tyrone was no longer there,.. I questioned his statement then Alex said that he is out of the office... I asked Alex when he will be back.. Alex asked me to "hold for a moment"... After a few minutes Alex came back and told me that Tyrone is on a "Personal Leave" and didn't know when he would be back... I then asked Alex why he did not tell me that at the beginning of the conversation... Alex said that he did not know the legalities... i then asked Alex if what he said was true about Tyrone being on a "Personal Leave"?... Alex said, um, yes... I have Tyrone's personal cell phone number, because he sent me pictures of floral business cards that he had... I then messaged Tyrone and received a quick response... Natalia had put the blame of everything that happened on him and "let him go"... Tyrone is a kind soul and the calm to Natalia's storm (i always felt like i lived through a tornado with her)... The church thought and felt soo highly of him to offer him a position there... Please learn from this review (i don't do reviews),she was a whirlwind, rude disrespectful, etc. i felt like it was absolutely necessary to steer people away from using the services she is providing, etc. read more

My mother died on April 4, 2015 and was cremated on or about April 13, 2015. I had to make many phone calls to inquire about my mother's status which all went to an answering machine and were rarely returned. I had to ask for an invoice which took tow days to be emailed to me. I paid by a bank issued check which Avalon received on April 21. 2015. I called the funeral home on April 23, 2015 to ask if the check had been received and two days later got a call that it had been received and was told my mother's ashes would be mailed to me in Seattle on April 28, 2015. I asked for a tracking number and Ms Santisteban told me she would call back with the number. I said email or text would also work. There was no response. Finally on May 6, 2015 she called saying the ashes had been returned by the post office as no one was home to sign for them. The post office does NOT immediately mail back a package; they hold it at the post office after leaving a notice for pick up and signature. Basically, she was waiting for the check to clear and lied to me. It took Avalon 10 days to deposit the check which was issued directly from USAA Federal Savings Bank and needed no waiting period for clearance. I find her behavior and extremely poor communication with me unprofessional and unsatisfactory. read more

Our experience was exactly like Kaleia's. My sister waited 6 hours for someone to come and pick up our father. The excuse given was rain and traffic. They told her to email the details about my father without meeting with her personally. Again, the excuse was rain. A couple of weeks later, she made an appointment to pick up the ashes. She went to the mortuary on Orange Grove only to find a big For Sale sign in the parking lot and the building locked up and empty. It was very distressing. After calling them from the parking lot, they told her to come to their office in a bank building on Colorado Blvd. The door was locked but eventually a woman opened it. My brother-in-law recognized her as being the women they saw drive out from the mortuary as they were trying to get in. She must have been there when they called and was rushing out to meet them at the office. My sister asked for some kind of tote bag to carry the box of ashes. There was not one readily available, and the woman had to search around to find one. Later, after getting the ashes home, my sister looked at the paperwork included. The date, cremation number, and signature were not even filled out. When she contacted them again, they sent a scanned copy of a form correctly filled out. I went to the office the other day to get an original copy, but all that they could give to me was a poor photocopy of a document that they had. We used Avalon Funeral Home in 2004 when our mother died and were very happy with the services. Now I would never recommend their services. Stay away! read more
