There were hardware glitches after installation, but the Got Watts team reliably spotted them - without me realizing there was even an issue - and sent teams out to ensure my equipment worked as promised. Years later I noticed some leaks through my roof where some phase 2 panels were installed. I notified Got Watts and they sent large crews to my home to rectify the issue over several days. This was no small fix. They probably spent vastly more to rectify the leaks than they did to install the panels to begin with. No one likes to have problems with an install. But, it means a lot for a contractor to honor their commitment and spend vast sums to honor their warranty, and their word, to their customer. I've had "good companies" make promises they wouldn't honor once the initial check cleared. Got Watts was true to their word and treated me in a dignified manner that is rare these days. We almost made it, however the rain came pouring down on the 10th and 11th. Thursday, February 12th dawned full of sunshine and the tear out commenced. Additional work was uncovered which unfortunately, yet understandably increased the price. Work continued, the city inspector, approved, and the tiles were installed. As the weekend approached so did an impending storm. The team returned Saturday, February 14th which meant they were with us and not their Valentines. Thank you!! I got answers from Darlene that did not make sense. Sometimes her computer was down other times her phone was down. Sometimes she would call to give me a message only to realize that she had called the wrong customer. Did not enjoy working with her. Finally, Kara engaged and we got the Permission to Operate about two months after the install. Supposedly Jeff (the Business Owner) is no longer with the company and has gone back East, so not sure who is leading their future efforts. For future customers: hang on to a portion of the payment till the Permission to Operate is received not just the installation.

In particular, Skyler could not have been more helpful, managing our project and acting as a point of contact. Others included David in sales who demystified the process, Varon who coordinated with the utility to ensure we met all requirements, and Gino, who collaborated with Maxwell Power (formerly HDM Renewable Finance), the clean-energy company that helped finance our residential system. On site, the design and install team did a great job keeping things simple. The entire system, including battery and thirteen panels, was installed according to Ramiros's expert design within just four hours. Good quality hardware was used to tie to the roof, which was inspected by our roofer and given a big thumbs up for not causing problems. But even before that, David our site survey tech, gave us the sense that all would proceed well, as he collected necessary data by drone, and made a favorable first impression with his personable approach. Toward the end of the multi-month process, which included time to get a new roof installed, we passed city inspection with YES tech, Dario, an extremely courteous young man, present to ensure we made it through that last step and PTO (permission to operate). YES has an excellent and well-deserved reputation because of these people and others who worked on our behalf. The company can do better automating some of the process, and to be fair, they say they are working on transitioning to a CRM software solution for this purpose. But, I can say that over a period of several months, I had excellent communication with many helpful people. Skyler in customer service was my primary contact and that made all the difference. My parents purchased solar from a HORRIBLE company that sounds a lot like 'SunFun'. After they passed away, and the house was sold...we were STILL making the monthly payments for over a year!!! That SunFun organization REFUSED to transfer the solar to the new homeowner, and eventually stopped taking or acknowledging our calls. It wasn't until we had to threaten the new homeowner with a lawsuit that SunFun finally transferred ownership. Due to this, we could not trust any of these solar companies...that is, until Kevin Bedard came to our home, and explained everything in great detail to my husband and I. He took the time to hear about our concerns, and he showed us how he truly cared. That same week, we spoke to two other families who shared their positive experiences about Ambrose Solar that made us feel that we would be in great hands. Any home renovation project has bumps, and this one had its fair share: after initial install they monitor the systems production remotely to see if it's doing what it's supposed to/expected to, and my system was initially under-performing. They caught it and sent out a team to problem solve it, which took a couple tries, but they didn't drag their feet, they kept on it and kept at it and got it resolved. It was no fault of theirs, just a technology glitch. Core fear was that they would give up after a couple failures and leave me following up with them to get it done, but I never had to worry about that. I also did not end up liking where they placed the control box- it was something that was going to make future maintenance of my house trim problematic down the line. They willingly moved it up a few inches for me (and my only complaint was the team that did that didn't patch the original hole as efficiently as they should have. If I had understood the box placement better on the first pass that would never have happened, so this is a bit of a complaint of my own making.) Jon Landsman, who sold me the system, stayed with us the whole time tracking the project, checking in, and following through on every detail, every question, every concern. He never made me feel like the demanding diva that I am, was always prompt and gracious! The bottom line is that start to finish, even with a few bumps in the road, I have zero question that this is a company that legitimately cares about doing what is right. This year (2024) I decided that my electric bill was just too much, I was going to get solar eventually, and the longer I put it off the more it would cost me overall. I liked that they didn't harass me. Once some folks get your number they just wont stop calling. Diablo didn't bug me back in 2020 and they were not really trying the hard sale this time either. I called them, had a brief discussion about what I was looking for, and scheduled a visit. I didn't know much about solar installations, so I spoke with a friend who was familiar with these things. He told me what to look out for in terms of equipment. After I got the quote, the folks at Diablo were very helpful answering questions along these lines. Again just providing information, not trying to sell me. Diablo handled everything and scheduled a time to do the install. Overall it took about 3 days. Two days for most of the hardware and then a day about a week later to deal with the mess in my breaker box from some previous work done by another company. Then they handled everything with PG&E and about a month later everything was cleared on PG&Es end. This delay was due to PG&E processing paperwork. Overall it's working well. After installation, he came back out for a consultation with my husband and me to walk us through the app and show us how to get the most out of our system. Cassius Camus, our energy consultant, helped us get set up with the right plan from the start, and Colton led a clean, professional installation. Every part of the process felt carefully handled. Five stars for the installation -- outstanding project manager and crew: responsive, punctual,…read moreprofessional, top-quality work. One star for the sales process. When we raised concerns, I believe the salesperson my partner dealt with wanted to make things right, but sales leadership stepped in, dismissed our concerns as unfounded, and offered nothing. Those concerns were (and still are): 1) Sketchy contract execution. NPP offers a 5-year prepaid lease in partnership with Balto Energy. It lets homeowners offset installation costs because the leasing company collects a 30% federal tax credit (no longer available to homeowners) and, in NPP's words, "monetizes that tax credit over 5 years." The contract was executed by sending the DocuSign to just one partner, with all owners lumped onto a single signature line -- one person signing on behalf of the other. For a married couple in California, that's legally questionable under community property law, given a) the encumbrances placed on jointly owned property, and b) no power of attorney authorizing one spouse to sign for the other. I never saw the agreement until installation was underway. 2) Misleading claims. My partner was told, verbally and in writing, that we'd "own the system outright" at the end of the 5-year term. In truth, the contract contains only vague language about a fair-market-value buyout, with no detail on how to initiate it or who to contact at end of lease. We've had zero contact with Balto through this entire process -- only NPP -- yet NPP's sales director told us they have no role in the lease agreement once it's signed. In other words, they don't stand behind the product they sell. Don't be like us -- do your diligence (especially if you're over 65 and new to solar leases), verify every claim against the actual contract language, and make sure all owners review and sign every agreement.
