I am generally an easy going individual, I don't feel I have unexpectedly high standards. I came in today to celebrate my sister's engagement and brought my sister and well behaved 3yr old daughter. The staff was borderline rude throughout our visit, you could tell they would rather not be there doing our nails, got aggressive with my 3yr old for not sitting still enough even though they made NO accommodations to make her comfortable (she was teetering on the edge of the large seat with no back support. They were so unkind, I would NEVER recommend this to a friend. I get my haircut there all the time, but not sure I will do that anymore. I am so disappointed that we spent a significant amount of money only to be treated like they didn't want us. I had an awesome hair appointment here! I moved here a few years ago but have kind of been bouncing around since then. I think I've found my place though! Super COVID safe, everyone was masked up, there was lots of hand washing/sanitizing, and it is a really large space so I was the only person with empty chairs all around me, and the other clients had lots of space as well. As for the actual cut...Rose just got it! She heard what I wanted and was able to turn my quarantine haircut into exactly that...it was magical! I get my hair cut about 1-2 times a year simply because I have had hair stylists who have cut more than we agreed on and have left me traumatized. I never like to dye my hair because I have had bad experience with hair stylists in town. I finally found a girl in whom took into consideration of what I asked her to do and has done it for years. She gave me tips and tricks on how to grow out my hair after my horrendous encounters. I decided to give Avalon Aveda salon a try because of their "great" reviews and since it's local, I said why not. Keep in mind, for my long hair, I have never been charged more than $200. My hair was to my butt, and I am 5'2 and when I left this salon, my hair is above my bra (WHICH I DID NOT ASK FOR). My family and friends have told me I look like a skunk or that it looks like I slipped into bleach. And I got charged $275 for a 6.5 hour treatment to be left like the images shown. I DO NOT recommend this place. After speaking with the owner, she only said she can reimburse me $50 for the haircut. What about the $210 I spent for an unsatisfactory job? I know an insane amount of hair stylists who if you do not like it, they won't charge you. I was offered to fix my hair but why would I want to go back to damage my hair even more. So this isn't my first time here. I've had great pedicures and massages. This time I got a gel manicure. I called to make an appointment when it was time to get it off. I asked how much it was to take it off if I got it done there. The receptionist said nothing but we can't just let you leave without doing anything to your nails so I'll book you a express manicure and that will be $30. I'm like ok. So I show up today and when I sit down she's trying to take my nail polish off with nail polish remover. And I'm like this is a gel. She immediately said oh I don't have time to give you an express manicure. I said I'm confused. This is what I was told when I called. So she got up and went to check and came back and said no I can't do it. I'm like ok well I'm not paying $30 then. She went to go grab the drill (mind you I've had hundreds of no chip done from were I moved and never had a drill remove it) meanwhile other manicurist chimes in while she's doing someone's nails and says that's how we do it here. Oh great thanks. Then she drills it off and does a light file and I leave with my nails looks ruined. Not even a polish of nail strengthener on. I still have product on from the gel. My nails are ruined. After I walked out I had to go find the receptionist and told her the story. And showed her my nails. She refunded me and then went to go talk to the manicurist and said that I can come back at 2 to get them fixed. Well I had another appointment for something that day. And now feel completely uncomfortable. I've had my nails done at high ends spas for years from where I lived before. I loved coming here and thought it was my new nail home. Until today. So I'm not sure where the mistake happened. The receptionist who booked my for this or what. Just very disappointed and now I have to go get my nails fixed somewhere else. read more

I made a hair appointment with Rose at Avalon salon after finding some positive reviews on Yelp. I could not be happier with the haircut that she gave me. She listened to what I wanted and cut my hair exactly the way I asked. I have been receiving non-stop compliments on my hair since leaving her salon. Although I live in Astoria, Oregon it might be worth making the drive to come back and see her again. Everyone I encountered at this salon was friendly, professional and welcoming. Literally just wanted low lights and highlights. She turned my hair red/orange and did not communicate with me that something was wrong during the toning process. I had to sit uncomfortably- She didnt ask to get me a water or communicate what was wrong or even ask to put my feet on the stool for additional comfort. I was late for an important dinner meeting. I heard her whispering in the back to coworkers about something being wrong with my hair but no one would tell me. I sat there for 45 mins on the uncomfortable sink, waiting patiently. I've been twice before and had received adequate, if not good service. But this time was different, and it is likely that I will no longer use their services. I had scheduled for full leg wax, and requested yesterday that they add on an express Pedicure before the appointment. After finishing the nails I was escorted to the waxing room and Kylie really rushed through and said I only had a 1/2 hour instead of the 45 minute allotted time. Some one had scheduled her for another appointment so she did not have enough time to adequately check my legs. I now have multiple narrow stripes of hair on my legs and will attempt to fix it myself at home. When I complained to the attendant at the cash register, he said "Most people don't want to stay the full 45 minutes, and she has to change the room for her next client." I understand that someone blew it when scheduling, but his off handed manner really frosted me. I paid $100 for a 1 hour and 15 minute session then got only 1 hour of time and very poor service. read more

I was given a new hair stylist because the first one I used there evidently left her job there. It is too bad they lost her, because she was exceptional. The new stylist cut my hair terribly unevenly, and highlighted it on one side, yet not the other. I did not notice at first because I left the salon with my hair curled and down. When I washed it the day after and dried it, I could clearly see that there was a problem, then some friends saw my hair and were horrified. They told me I should get a refund because of how bad the cut and color was. I called the owner, Drake, and he suggested I come in to have it repaired by the same person who caused the damage, if indeed they could see it was a problem. My friends and family were encouraging me to use a new salon for repair because it was a possibility the first stylist who caused the problem could make it worse. My family and friends were upset because this cost me a lot of money, and it was clearly not right; this is an expensive salon, plus I tipped the stylist very well. I decided to go to another salon because I was advised not to go back to the same person who messed it up this bad. The new salon told me that it appeared the stylist highlighted one side of my hair, but not the other, and cut one side, but not the other. The new salon said it was not good, and called it "wonky". I had to pay to have this repaired. I would never recommend this salon due to my very uneven, cut and color, and the apparent lack of concern or care from the manager/owner. I have never asked for a refund from any salon, ever, but I felt I deserved a refund in this case. I had called and left a second message for the owner to return my call. He never returned the call. I spent hundreds of dollars at this salon, purchasing products, and for my hair cut, color and style. I used to own a company, and if a product I delivered was defective in any way, I would have refunded the customer. This was very dissatisfying experience, and a costly one at that. read more
