They have photos spread out throughout the shop, making it a cool shopping/museum experience. The owners are very friendly and chatty. They're happy to explain their products and stories. There is a huge selection of different styles, nothing that day particularly caught my eye since the dresses weren't my style. But they're true to the old school Hawaiian design. They have 100% silk or 100% cotton. They have shirts, dresses, and even kid versions. We didn't purchase anything that day but we'll definitely come back when we're ready for a high-quality Hawaiian shirt. read more

Absolutely fantastic shopping experience, with kind and knowable staff. No pressure, but very attentive. I went to every reputable aloha shirt shop in Honolulu, and they have the best selection for taller folks. Got an absolutely beautiful 100% silk made in Hawaii shirt, and left with a smile on my face. Big props to the workers there, especially the taller young local gentleman whose name I cannot remember. I'm glad I stopped by for the friendly experience. The lady working (didn't get her name unfortunately) made sure to provide different options and worked with me to find the ideal shirt. I appreciate she didn't add pressure into a purchase and genuinely wanted to help. I highly recommend coming here if you're in need of some Hawaiian clothing. I was surprised to see a lot of celebrity pictures on the of people who came here to get their shirts. Apparently, this is the spot to come and not surprisingly because the quality of their clothing is top quality. Aloha wear just ain't just Friday's. For me, it's almost everyday! Almost all of my aloha shirts were purchased here at this location. With so many souvenir shops on Kalakaua Avenue, you might just walk past it. No, the shirts here are the real deal. The store is adorned with celebrity photos of there customers. The recent Magnum p.i. series has wardrobed the cast with a few shirts from Avanti. Bruno Mars is a fan! The shirts are prints inspired by the vintage prints of the 1930s and 1940s. They run several fabrics: silk, rayon, a poplin. I prefer the silk with a trimmer modern fit, which isn't so billowy. Still I size down. These shirts aren't the ABC Store versions. Most shirts are about $100. I like to purchase them when I'm on Oahu, because of the greater selection. You can go online. If you see something you like, get it. Great place and a must stop when looking for Aloha wear. They have many, many beautiful, luxurious prints that really stand out from the countless (sometimes cheesy) designs other surrounding stores carry. Fabrics are really comfy and not scratchy, ranging from Rayon, cotton and silk types. We bought a whole set for my family to take photos the last time we were here and the smocked top dress is so comfy I wear it every chance I get. When we came back for Thanksgiving this year, I made sure that we visited the store to pick up more items. They were having an amazing sale, so I picked up some dresses and a SILK shirt for around 30 dollars for my 9 year old son. You can mix and match anything in the store for photos and everything just GOES together. Love this place and the quality. read more

"That was the worst" was what my fiancé said as we were walking out. Seeing they had a good selection of Hawaiian attire here, we thought about browsing through the store. The moment you walk in, the two employees are constantly trying to sell you shirts. Even though we politely asked to continue looking, they were talking at a mile a minute trying to get us to buy their merchandise. I got so stressed because if you're looking at something, they'll really force you to either try it on or buy it. I just wanted to browse. Since we were there on Mother's Day, the owner asked what I was getting for mom. I explained we were celebrating another weekend and already had a gift for her. She kept making excuses for about ten minutes on how my fiancé needed to buy me everything there because I will be a future mom. Honestly, we just wanted to look for something without the constant pestering. Eventually we couldn't take it anymore, said "thank you" and left. The smiles all disappeared from their faces. Slightly faded but mint condition, you can't tell the fade and it didn't shrink. They have a wide selection of kids clothing in silk also. Excellent high quality material of clothing and dresses they carry. You get what you pay for, it's the quality and bold colorful prints. I was here late one night for Hawaiian shirt souvenir shopping. As I was looking around, the employees followed me around. Then as I was searching for a particular print that I saw through the window and touched a shirt, the employee quickly told me that "that shirt isn't for women." Well, good for you because you just lost my business. I'm not sure who their target customers are or if it even matters. I was willing to spend money here and was told that I can basically only buy something for myself. I walked out afterwards. This store has a lot of great designs and awesome clothes for both men, women and children. Really great to take back home if you are not from Hawaii. It is also great to know that some of the shirt designs were used in movies and worn by famous actors or musicians. This store gets a lot of traffic and celebrity visits. Being a fat guy, I was ashamed to admit I did not own an aloha shirt. So, given my trip to Hawaii - I had no more excuses. However, being blighted by curse of taste and eyesight. Everything from the $14 made in China aloha shirts at the billion ABC Stores in Waikiki to the $150-ish shirts silk, made in Hawaii shirts at places like Tori Richard and Bailey's was unappealing to me. Ya, I know these shirts are supposed to be loud and 'fun' -- but I wasn't trying to match a shirt to white socks, Crocs, baggy cargo shorts and a receding hairline - like most of the other tourists waddling around in shapeless clothing. And then... I finally found my shirt at Avanti. Not only was the pattern sufficiently loud, it was relatively tasteful for an aloha shirt. Their shirts are made locally and they have a series of 'modern cut' shirts (which wasn't baggy and didn't look too metrosexual like the orange label/'slim cuts' at Tori Richard). The best part, it's a shirt that I would actually rock back home unlike most of the other souvenir trinkets on sale. You also get 5% off your purchases if you show them you 'liked' their Facebook page or followed them on Instagram. read more

Prices top out at $70 a shirt for men's but $55, $49, and $35 are available in sales racks. I find the vintage '40's style reproductions to be the most iconic but washed broadcloth and floral patterns abound as well. Smaller than I thought it would be but the selection/variety was pretty good for the men's shirt. I didn't see much for the women's. But the quality was great and the customer service was great too. Unfortunately their internet went down and we couldn't buy all the stuff we wanted unless we had the cash. So we ended up only buying a children's dress for our daughter. read more
