We ordered a $200 arrangement for a family member's funeral. We placed the order well in advance (18 days in advance) of the funeral as it was scheduled to take place at the National Cemetery in Riverside CA. The arrangement was supposed to have a white ribbon with the message "In loving memory of Poppy" computer printed in cursive on it. The funeral was set to begin at 11:15 AM on the date specified. It's important to note, there is only one National Cemetery In Riverside California and it is located adjacent to an enormous Air Force Base named March Air Reserve Base. It is not difficult to find. The arrangement arrived 10 minutes after the ceremony began, during the military honors portion of the ceremony. With 18 days to plan the delivery, that was unacceptable. But it gets worse. The white ribbon on the small arrangement contained the incorrect sentiment of "I loving memory of Poppy." Missing the "n" in the word "In". The sentiment was not printed by a machine in cursive or calligraphic print, it was hand written with a black Sharpie marker in bock printing!! The ink from the marker ran in the ribbon's material making it look almost childish. And, the $200 bunch of flowers and greenery could have been purchased at any retail outlet for less than $40. On the plus side, they did provide a wooden stand to display the poorly executed arrangement. After the funeral, my wife contacted Ava's Flowers customer service. Clearly, she was talking to people from another country who had a script to follow when complaints are filed. They attempted to appease her with an offer of a $15 refund which she rejected. That became $25 which she rejected. She finally settled for a 50% refund and it was sent within 24 hours. Obviously we are embarrassed and disappointed with the shoddy quality control and delivery of the arrangement. We should have checked Yelp before ordering through this company. Lesson learned. My mom was hoping to be discharged sometime on Sunday, depending on her tests. During my call with Avas, the customer service rep actually put me on hold to "check with the hospital" about discharge times--and then came back and told me that the hospital said my mother was being discharged. Excuse me? That is a huge red flag and a potential HIPAA violation, especially since my mother herself didn't know that information. I went back and forth with them repeatedly, explaining that my mom was not discharged and that I still needed the flowers delivered to the hospital before she was released. After all that, they then informed me they couldn't even provide the arrangement I originally ordered. The "alternative options" they offered were a complete joke compared to what I selected. They issued a partial refund and gave me discount coupons I will never use, because I will never order from this company again. Not the delivery fee, a service fee. This is twice what the small bouquet I chose cost!
