I came in to get a facial. My face has had quite a few break outs in the past 3 years. So I'm very particular on what I use on my face. I decided to come here to see what kind of products would help to clear the dark marks on my face. The first thing the student said to me as soon as we got into the room was you might have a breakout due to it being a new product. That made me kind of nervous. But I continued with the service. She was very soft and gentle and made me feel comfortable. I like to be talked to because I want you to explain the products that your putting on my face. But she didn't. The facial lasted for a hour. The confusion happened when after I put back on my shirt I was just waiting in the room and I finally walked out and the instructor said oh you were supposed to wait in the room. The instructor walked me to the front and said that the student was supposed to explain to me that she was picking out products that she was recommending for me. I didn't buy any products because I've done that before. I've spent over $200.00 on products that have not worked. But overall the facial was ok. Would I go back? Probably not because the next facial she recommended next was for a plant pill and I will not allow a student to do that. read more

My hair is very precious to me. And I have to say that I am very happy with how my hair is done each time I visit. I would highly suggest a Master to do your hair. On a side note, many of the times the people in the front aren't too good at smiley customer service. But today I met Blake. She was AMAZINGLY welcoming, beautiful and took the time to explain things to me....which was a first. So, KUDOS to Blake at the front desk for being most gracious. Wow I have been and Aveda Client for over 20 years in three states, I am writing this because the two times I have purchased my regular items at the Phoenix, Arizona Institute the service was way below the standard I am used to ay Aveda. The first time the associate was short with me and rude, I let it go giving the benefit of a bad day for her. Today I went in to make a purchase with my yearly coupons, one was for a personal complimentary Pure-fume which I always enjoy because I get to select the scents. The associate was very young and very excited to mix my Pure-fume and rushed to ring up my order before I was through shopping, she finally corrected the sale and we went to mix the Pure-fume. When we were finished she placed it in the bag and I left. Upon arriving home, I looked at the sales slip and saw she charged me $22.00 for the Pure-fume which was suppose to be complimentary as the coupon stated. I looked again at my sales slip for a name and phone number to call to get this issue cleared up. There was no local phone number only an 800 number for customer service. I went to Google online and got the Phoenix Institutes number. When I called it I was transferred to Denver, Co and a recording said they were closed. So next I called the 800 customer service number, the only one on the receipt, and they could not help me because the Institute I shopped at is in Arizona. The customer Service Agent was nice but had no answers except to call or return on Monday. I said I live three hours away and she suggested I call her Supervisor, Karen, on Monday. Now I am wondering what Karen can do that the other Customer Service Person couldn't. One would think that when a big company buys out Aveda, they would be more interested in giving good customer service simply by providing the information needed so the customer can have a positive experience even though a mistake was made. I know I wouldn't be wasting my time writing this if they had provided it in the first place. I also question how they will ever know who the associate was that charged me for my free gift which also took away my excitement and the fun in creating it. I am thinking positive thoughts that this long comment letter I chose to take time writing will strike a cord in someone of authority at Aveda and make changes for the better that effect all of us. read more

I was always looking to get a facial but every time I looked there were always expensive choices, unyil someone at work recommended Aveda. I had such a great experience. In this place everything is fisrt class, staff are very professiona, the place looks so neat and elegant. I booked my apoinment for a facial and while I was waiting, they offered some green tea and magazines. My facial was 90 minutes long and I paid only like $40 dls. They also offer manicures, pedicures, styles, hair cut, eyebrow desing, etc. They have their own products. I tried the conditioner and cleanser, and I really like them. I've had probably about 7 facials in my life. My very first one was eye-opening and I loved the whole experience. I left feeling like I was glowing. I have not had that experience again until today, at Aveda Institute, by a student! For me, it's always about the whole experience and Aveda starts at your feet and makes sure that it is a relaxing, wonderful experience. I came to Aveda a few weekends ago when I was in town to see a Spring Training game. I saw Ciara K. for a lip wax and brow tint. I was a little nervous about tinting my eye brows because I have always been worried they would get too dark, but really wanted to give it a try. Ciara was very mindful of that and explained the whole process and the color she was planning to use. She was very efficient and I felt comfortable and calm the whole time. I went here for a facial and was immediately greeted by a girl in the front who provided me with a glass of water. I was then greeted by Madeline S. The room she brought me to smelled amazing, like peppermint. The music was soothing and the lights were dimmed which made me very relaxed. I received a wonderful facial, she explained to me what she was using and even gave me options on what scents I prefer her to use, which I loved! I've had Brazilians done before professionally and I can easily say that I did not feel any more amount of pain or discomfort than what is normal for getting a Brazilian. Love this place. It takes a long time to get your services done because the students are still practicing and getting checked by their educators, but the quality is often just as good as a regular Aveda salon. This is about the cheapest you can get without going to Great Cuts. Only downside is that the student is eventually going to graduate, so you need to make sure you get their contact information and follow them if you like them! read more

Going into this I was nervous because typically a free cut is a little risky. However, I couldn't be more pleased! I went this morning and everyone was extremely kind. Grace cut my hair today and I'm very picky with my hair so she made sure that everything was exactly the way I wanted it. She had so much patience with me and took her time and asked me all kinds of questions to make sure everything was perfect. This was my first experience at Aveda, and I was beyond impressed. From the moment I walked in everything was so relaxing. I was instantly greeted by the receptionist and was impressed with the spa like environment. I was then greeted by my aesthetician, Tayler, who offered me water or tea, asked how my day was, and made me feel extremely welcomed and comfortable. Tayler began my treatment of brow and lash tinting. She really focused on what I wanted the outcome to be, and took her time to address all my needs. Tayler was so detailed and made the entire experience super comfortable. Most importantly the results came out fabulous! I was super happy with how accommodating and professional Tayler was. This place is a joke! I have been to beauty schools across the country and the students here were, by far, the least experienced of them all. I requested the highest level student available, however when cutting my bangs she had to be talked through each individual step and told me she needed assistance right before cutting. Um... she told me she had no additional test or exams and yet she acted as though she had never been taught how to cut side bangs???! Every girl in there had side bangs and I'm pretty sure it's a fairly normal request. Also, I got full foil highlights and was left with quite bad and noticeable bleach bleeding near my face.Discouraging after sitting for 5 hours!!! What upset me the most was how fake the instructors were. They ahhhed and ooohhhed regardless of the outcome. I'm sorry, but don't say my hair is "perfect" or "beautiful" if it's mediocre at best and not what I requested. They put you on the spot and pressure you to say you feel great when you just uncomfortable stating your opinion because the stylist is RIGHT NEXT to you. If these instructors were interested in training and feedback they would ask you about your service away from the stylist like other schools I have been to. Anyway the mistake of my hair was too big and too expensive to ignore so I'm happy I spoke up. I had to come in the next day and get it fixed by a stylist who was sweet and kind, but still seemed to lack the skills and confidence expected from a student graduating within the next month. Would not ever return here nor would I recommend to anyone who cares about the outcome of their hair. Also price was more or comparable to Walmart where believe it or not I once met the best stylist I ever had but she moved away I still cry because I miss her. Lol. read more

I've been coming here since it opened . As long as you realize that these are students your experience will be more than exceptional. I read a review That a client who was dissatisfied with her service wrote and said wanted to talk to the owner. She said she was told that the owner, "would not care." This is far from the truth. I know him personally and would say that how the image of the school is portrayed is extremely important. The school is more than happy to fix any situation that arises. Many people come to Aveda with some unrealistic expectations and a photograph. Sometimes, actually often, your hair won't do what is in the photo. They will tell you. What is possible. I know what to expect and customers who come a a place where students are learning, should expect a long appointment and constant checks with educators. read more

If my experience is typical then I cannot recommend this place in good faith. Yes, you are dealing with students - however, they should be able to adequately perform the services customers come in for. If you go, plan to be there a LONG time! My cut and color was 4.25 hours. I went in for all over color and a cut. When I sat down the girl said I hadn't been booked for color (although she was able to accommodate). The color was a complete disappointment, I've had better results with a box of Ms. Clairol. To make matters worse, the student basically missed all of the roots on top of my head (which I pointed out to the instructor and she said "It'll be just fine"). The cut took forever for a simple blunt cut bob for which I had to repeatedly tell them "NO layers." The worst part of my visit was when the student was finally blowing my hair out and caught it in the back of the hairdryer. I winched and pulled away (thankfully with minimal damage) and her response was, "I wondered what that noise was" (my hair getting pulled into the dryer) and said there must have been something wrong with the dyer. Nope nope nope. At that point I ended the appointment. I paid for the service and was told I could come back in the next two or so weeks to have the color corrected. No thanks! It doesn't seem like the students are adequately trained enough once they have a real person in the chair. If you go, be warned of what could happen. read more

I had my haircut with Christian Fitzgerald Riley, a Premier Talent student, and he totally made my day. It's been 5 days since my Aveds experience and I'm still glowing! I look and feel fabulous. I had been growing my hair out and it's in a very difficult stage. For the last month I was feeling very self conscious because I was having bad hair days; Think grown out 80's mullets. I wasn't sure what I could do with my hair so I brought Christian a couple photos of the new 'bob' that's been trending and he totally nailed it! My hair looks and feels like a work of art! He really took his time to listen to my main concerns and exceeded my expectations. I look and feel like a whole new person thanks to his care and compassion. I feel like he brought out the true me with my haircut. At Aveda you don't 'just' get a haircut; you get an experience. Not sure why they have a lot of bad reviews, but I've always had a great experience. The students are supervised by wonderful and EXPERIENCED instructors which makes me confident that I will always leave with a smile on my face. Elisa cut my hair last time and she did a great job. I forgot to bring cash for the tip so I bought her one of the water candles they sell to thank her. I know that if I let them know that I didn't like something about the way they cut/styled/colored my hair that they would fix it. read more
