The day of the appointment they were ready for me, on time. With this COVID situation the place is at smaller capacity and we kept the social distancing and use of the masks. I showed Sara pictures of what I wanted and she gave me some feedback, we came back with a plan. It took 4 hours but my old, damaged hair is gone and I have some color that goes with my skin complexion and my personality. I completely forgot to take the "before" picture of my hair, but we did take the "after". Will see them in two months. read more

I am super disappointed in the careless treatment of my hair. The photo I showed the stylist was a dark red image. As you can see it is a blonde and not dark red. Not only that, the photo I showed the stylist was an Aveda salon pic! Can the stylist here not comprehend that bleach should not have been used for this color. It is truly tragic that my original hair is far better than my current state of disaster. I now have to wait 7 weeks and do treatment to add hydration back into it. I suppose the best thing that came out of this is that I will be experimenting with up dos! I'm not gonna lie I was a bit nervous getting my hair done at this salon for the first time based on the mixed reviews. I was initially drawn to this salon because I love Aveda products and I'm familiar with how my hair picks up the color when it comes to going blonde from black hair (I was probably a level 1 or 2 when I came in.) With that being said, I had low expectations for my highlight experience and didn't expect to step out of the salon a full blonde. I walked out of the salon that day as a whole other person in the best way. I had scheduled a cut and consultation with Carlos. He was a bit hesitant to give me a full head of highlights due to a few factors such as time and my previously damaged hair. We agreed on cutting of an inch or 2 and doing a partial. He totally exceeded my expectations and I'm so happy with how blonde I walked out. My only regret is not getting a full head of highlights so I swear to god I might have to go in again this weekend and get the bottom part blonde too lol. The price is amazing too, I would say. She refused to dry me off until she finished cutting my hair, so I sat for half the time shivering. Accidents happen, but she NEVER apologized. Never got the advertised neck massage. She did a mediocre job on my haircut requesting long layers and to thin out my thick, heavy hair. Hair was still very thick and heavy; layers were chunky and outdated; not subtle at all. At the end, I was shocked that she asked me to tag her on Instagram for a discount... again, without acknowledging that she drenched me with water. One of the best salons I've been too. The salon does use aveda products- which is a pioneer in certified green energy, no animal testing, made of non toxic chemistry and from organic soil! All of the stylist are phenomenal. I've gone to three different girls because they are always booked. But, it doesn't matter because I get the exact same exceptional results. No wonder Richard is booked 6 months in advance! He was recently featured in Harpers Bazzar as one of the best hair dressers in Southern California, which makes it even more exciting! I was looking for a new hair stylist/salon for a while... and I am SO HAPPY that I found this salon!! Maria Gomez did an incredible job highlighting and shaping my fine, blonde hair- it looks so natural and feels very healthy. She listened to exactly what I wanted, and continually asked questions to be sure I was happy with the cut. She even styled it for me, 'just because.' I am 100 percent satisfied, and I've already received a ton of compliments in the few hours since I left the salon. Thank you so much, Maria! I had an appointment scheduled for 4:15pm for a cut and color. Earlier that day, I realized with traffic that I would be a bit longer and called to ask if it would be okay for me to arrive at 5:15pm. They confirmed that this would work, and the woman on the phone said she would go notify the stylist. I proceeded to drive THREE HOURS in traffic (that's a drive to Vegas) from Calabasas, arriving at 5:10pm. I called the salon on my way up and let them know I was walking in the from structure. Emily answered the phone and informed me that because my 15 minute window had passed from 4:45pm (not the time I had moved to), that they gave my appointment away. I asked if anyone had informed the stylist of my call earlier, and she said no. Normally I'd chalk this up to poor service and a careless attitude and move on, but I'm so exhausted and I drove THREE HOURS for this appt. having called ahead and confirmed, to arrive and find out that no one had notified anyone of the change. When I asked if I could just get a shorter service for the remaining time, she let me know that the stylist was already helping someone else...before my service would have begun. I normally don't write a review but after my experience last Saturday I feel I need to. I went in for highlights and a cut and had Carlos. I asked for a honey brown color. I ended up with an orange balayage on only the bottom layer and bright yellow money pieces ( 2 highlights in front) which I did not ask for. I asked him to fix it as I wanted highlights all over (not just bottom layer) and to tone down the color (I did not want orange and yellow). He had to redo everything and I sat there for another 2 hours. I was there for a total of 5 hours and he finally got my hair to a place where I could leave but I was definitely not happy and not what I came in for . The end result was extremely patchy chunks ( not highlights) . Needless to say, I will not be going back there. I ended up at a different salon to get my hair actually fixed. read more

I wrote a previous review on my experience back in August of 2018. Not sure where it went so I'm rewriting as I feel this is an important review to read before deciding to go in. I booked an appointment for color with Richard the owner. On the day of the appointment I arrived a few minutes early. I waited around and then I was put into a chair beside the client he was not even half way through with. As he worked on her he asked me what I was wanting then passed me off to his assistant. I'm sitting there believing he will get with me soon. Nope. A walk -in shows up and he takes the person!!! A walk-in?!!! All the while unbeknownst to me my hair was being fried by his assistant. Throughout the entire appointment Richard did nothing more than throw out a few directions to his assistant from time to time. Oh wait, he did my blow-dry. Paid 315.00 for hair color that was so badly damaged I had to have it cut off down to a pixie. Of course I had to have it recolored too adding additional expense. And no, I was not happy to have to lop it off into a pixie. I had just spent months growing out my length. Lastly, there is the issue of respecting personal boundaries. The guy pulled a huge Woe, this is so not okay. Sorry for lack of details but I think the guidelines won't allow me to go into that territory. read more

Problem: First, it's FREEZING in this salon. Makes the whole experience like a torture session. Second, I got home from a color and discovered a big glob of hair color stuck in my earlobe. Hello?! Aren't they supposed to check for that before they send you out the door? Third, after my color, the stylist didn't even offer a mirror to me so I could see the back of my hair! Solution: Install some kind of heating system if the mall is unwilling to adjust the temp. Check earlobes for stray hair coloring globs. Offer a mirror to the client so they can check out their hair. I was looking forward to an Aveda experience outside the Aveda salon from which I work out of as a stylist. I live in a smaller town, but think our salon is great (minus some needed updates). I decided to give the Richard Michael Salon a try. Pictures looked great, good reviews, awesome location, and very upscale service pricing. 'This must be amazing', I thought. 'How could it be bad, especially with these prices'. Well, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't worth the money. Lets just say I was happy I had $20 off. I went in for a shampoo blow dry. However, If I am the manager/owner of this salon I would do everything in my power to make it what it should be. As an Aveda salon and with these prices the service (especially one as simple as a sh/style) needs to be out of this world extraordinary. Complementary scalp neck and shoulder massage with Aveda an composition oil is step one. Step two is an amazing shampoo with just as good of a conditioning. Concluding with step three, a hot towel soaked in water and stress-fix oil for my head to let the conditioner soak in. Stylists should take pride in their work as detail oriented people pleasers, who strive for excellence. Even though I could tell by the smells of the products being used I wasn't able to see (because I was turned away from the mirror (why??)) nor was I told. Stylists: educate your guests; up your product commission. I asked for straight hair. Not a lousy blow out. I started coming to this salon when my stylist left my other one. It just wasn't convenient to drive out to Riverside anymore if he wasn't there. I came to Orange County and was calling around trying to find an Aveda salon that would be good to try. I figured my old guy was from an Aveda salon so I'd try to find another one. I'm so happy I found this one and even happier I found Bernadette. After I described my hair in sheer panic that it would be slaughtered at the hands of someone I don't know the person who scheduled the appointment recommended I see Bernadette. My rule of thumb is that I won't let anyone do my hair if I don't like theirs (odd but has worked well so far). I walk in and she has almost the exact same hair as me. BINGO. She comes in early on weekends- another bonus for me since I work all week and am an early riser anyways. I hit the jackpot. My hair looks great and she is always willing to work with me to play with it. I trust her judgement and her taste is impeccable. My bangs are perfect, my low-lights are incredible (and lower maintenance than my previous 'do!) and my hair is manageable. I couldn't ask for more! read more

One of the most traumatic things about moving across the country is leaving your stylist and having to embark on the scary journey to find a new one. Before I moved to CA, I had my hair done at an Aveda salon. I loved my stylist there because she knew her stuff. My stylist, Bernadette, is absolutely wonderful! I've been seeing her for over 3 years and I've always had a great experience with her. She knows my hair like it's her own - every suggestion she's made for cut or color has always been spot on. And after 1.5 years of being told "don't cut the hair - I want it long for my wedding" - she helped me take the plunge into a short haircut. She's never pushed me into a cut/color that I wasn't comfortable with. We always talk every new choice out, which makes me feel super confident in her recommendations. I'm one of those people who only cut their hair once a year. Several reasons are that I'm lazy, I don't have a stylist I can go to or trust, I am also cheap (hey, great haircuts are not cheap). I am also one of those that have an irrational fear of haircutting, however with my track record and crappy places that I've experienced, whos to blame? It wasn't until I met Jody who changed my mind at the Aveda Richard Michael Salon. I got a rec from a co-worker who swore by this. Last time I got a rec from a salon that someone sore by, the woman did a medicore job and was very rushed because the place she was working at was so busy she barely had time to really give me a proper consultation. When I entered the salon, I was promptly greeted by the receptionist. My stylist was finishing up with someone, but I only had to wait for a few minutes. Its a very small place as well. Its also not terribally loud like a very busy salon. Jody sat me down and gave me a little talk. She then gave me a massage on my face and scalp. I got my hair washed, and then they finally sat me down for my consultation. They actually ended up blow drying my hair half way dry then cut it. Not a technique I'm used to, but in a way it makes sense..why blast your newly cut hair with some heat to make it split? It was interesting right off the batt she was able to tell that I only only wear a ponytial, and that it's too tight. She was very attentive and asked me lots of questions. In addition, I asked if bangs were a good look for me, and she said yes! I was surprised, because the other stylist i went to told me it was a terrible idea since I had a cowlick. She gave me confidence in my hair, which other stylists have never done. She even styled it afterwards and curled it. She did such a good job it survived my red-eye flight and I was able to wear my hair styled at the destination wedding I was at. Lastly, I noticed that her next appointment came in, but she was basically about done with me. She didn't rush me out either. It was refreshing to see a place that didn't seem to overbook or underestimate the times required to spend with clients. She also gave me good hair tips and suggestions of types of products to use, she even provided me with some good alternives, since she understood that Aveda products are on the pricier side. I'm due for another haircut soon, and I will be back. I know that its $60 a cut, but I think that they made the experience worth it. Everyone loved my new style too. I get my hair done by both Richard and Shanell, but I would recommend every stylist in this salon. I can finally check off 'get a facial' on the list of girly things to do and I'm so happy I picked Aveda as the place for my first one! Service was great from the get-go. I can get really shy so places like salons can be really intimidating and agitating to me unless the service is warm and friendly. Initially, I was at Borders so I thought I'd check out the salon and ask questions about facials. The girl was super nice and was still genial when I mentioned that I was concerned about prices. I also brought up how I tried and didn't really like the Aveda outer peace products and I was told me that their esthetician had stronger products that she used anyway. I walked in on a Sunday and was booked for a Thursday morning facial of that same week. If I remember correctly their esthecian's only there Wednesday to Sunday. Kelly put me at ease right away, very affable. Based off of random cards I picked, my facial was centered around the heart chakra. The corresponding oils she used to help that supposed imbalance were great! The extractions weren't as painful as much as everyone makes them out to be, but mind you I have a decent tolerance for pain. Felt like she was pinching my face with her nails. I was initially charged $110 for the facial but I inquired about their twelve month program and now I pay $60 once a month to visit and get a 60 minute facial. So worth it!
