I'm emailed the following to the salon hoping I would receive a response. Some sort of effort to correct this nightmare. Unfortunately, yet not surprisingly, I never heard back had an appointment for a cut and color with Jessie on October 17th. I explained what I wanted for my hair - A layered cut that added more volume and to dye it darker as I had a balayage that was growing out. Jessie shampooed my hair and said she would add toner. As I waited in the sink, she helped another stylist who was dying her own her. Her client actually arrived shortly after and she rinsed her hair, put it in a bun and then greeted the client. Jessie took me to the chair and began to cut my hair by taking random pieces and snipping away. There seemed to be no method. She really focused on one side making the hair shorter and shorter as she went. I trusted she knew what she was doing. In less than an hour of my arrival, she took off the smock, wished me luck on my drive home and disappeared. I was confused but realized she was not returning. There was no one else in the salon other than the girl at the front counter so I tried to check my hair for evenness, paid (still confused by the price) and left. When I left the parking structure, I was almost hit by a car pulling out, then I realized it was Jessie. She must have been in a big hurry to leave that night. When I got home I almost cried. I had large chunks of short chopped hair in the front. I was happy with the color. I called the salon the next day and schedule for a follow up. When I arrived for the follow up on the 24th, I explained the issue to Jessie. This time I showed her a picture of my last haircut. Again, she started grabbing random pieces and cutting. I stopped her and said I was worried. I felt that in order to cut it properly, she needed to wet it and go section by section to make sure it was all even. She said she was. I let her continue but had to stop her again as she started focusing on the front which was already very short. I said I was getting very scared. She threw her hands down and said she didn't know what I wanted. I explained I hardly get my hair cut because I'm worried of this very thing. I have grown out my hair over the past two years and she was cutting it drastically when I asked to keep it as long as possible while cutting off the split ends. At a higher end salon, with the prices being charged, I should feel completely comfortable and I felt anything but. Jessie then washed my hair and started to section pieces. In 30 years, I've never had someone use the method she used. She then said "did I really cut the front that short"? Yes, she did. I'm her attempt to fix it, she kept cutting shorter. We both agreed she needed to stop and she asked Gloria, who during the last appointment was dying her own hair, to help. Gloria did what she could but said she couldn't fix it without making everything shorter. The entire time she was blending my hair, Jessie was on the side staring at her watch. Gloria did the best she could but the haircut is a major disaster. It's completely uneven and choppy. I may as well have gone to super cute and saved a ton of money. The reason I'm writing this is the final straw... let me start by saying I never get my hair colored. I honestly don't know the first thing about it. When I told Jessie I wanted it dyed darker, and paid for a full color, I thought that's what I was getting. Yet less than two weeks later, my hair is lighter, almost the color I went in with. After researching I found that toner is temporary. Now why would I pay for a "full color" for something that would wash out in two weeks? read more

LOVE THIS SALON! Came here because of the amazing compliments, and because of the genuine comments and information given to me by the receptionist, Jillian. I was surprised to see just how friendly and personable the staff was, compared to most other salons I have visited in the past. Like I said, Jillian was very helpful and especially honest when it came time to answer questions about services and prices, and also gave me recommendations for what to do, and how to fix what I had going on, prior to AVEDA. Booked an appointment with Shanell, after having a horrible experience at another salon. She is the best! Shanell is amazing! She really listened to what I wanted to have done and did an amazing job! It was exactly what I wanted! I got highlights and lowlights. She worked around the tape-in extensions that I got at my previous salon, and she made them look more natural and fixed the color of the extensions and my hair so it all blends is very beautifully. I am never one to cheat on my hair stylist, but 4 or 5 years ago my previous stylist left Huntington Beach to live in LA and be on the Hills which left me in dyer need of an amazing stylist that could handle my unruly mane. Enter Aveda Richard Michael Salon and stylist Sean S who I met through mutual friends who has now been doing my hair for years. The salon staff is extremely friendly, always calls to remind you of your next appointment and will book all your appointments a year out if you want (yes, I've had to do this due to wedding seasons) The salon is not pretentious, is always clean and extrudes a calming spa experience from their signature tea to hand massages while you wait under the dryer or waiting for your toner to set. Appointments are pretty on time- and is probably one of the few things I can get myself to be punctual for. I have been going to Kelsey for a couple of years because of her stellar reviews, coupled with the fact that I love the smell of Aveda products. On a personal note, Kelsey is the coolest and kindest lady you could know. As a hairstylist, she is beyond patient and understanding - two things that are oft missing from the world of hair and beauty. I have been pretty boring and only getting subtle cuts and trims, and I have never colored my hair. (I am naturally a dark brunette.) Well, after seeing some photos of brunettes with pretty highlights I was ready to trust Kelsey. She and I talked for 10 minutes about what I was going for, and 2 hours later I was a more modern, summery version of myself! I am in LOVE with my color. I've been going to Richard Michael Salon for nearly a year now and have nothing but good things to say. Everyone is incredibly nice and professional, from the front desk staff to the stylists. I've had sessions with 3 different stylists (only because of scheduling) and all have been knowledgeable, professional and immensely helpful with any questions I have. My last few appointments have been with Mindi for my color - what I wanted was a big transition from my natural dark brown hair. I explained to her what I was looking for and showed her pictures. She was definitely receptive and had advice for me. We talked and she was very clear that to get to where I wanted to be it was going to be a process, that we wouldn't be able to get there in 1 visit which is completely understandable. She said if I was patient and willing to go with the process she'd get me there. She was meticulous in her work and even though the first session didn't get me exactly where I wanted to be (which I knew) it was a beautiful color nonetheless. We've had a couple of sessions now and I love my hair! I love how she's been getting me to where I want and I've been able to enjoy the process and the stages of my hair color! It's kind of fun to go into work after each appointment with a "new" color. She's also very mindful of how much we are putting my hair through so that we don't cause any damage - no point having the color I want (we've yet to decide what color it actually is, fuchsia? Pink? I've been a handful of times, and every time I walk out feeling happy and confident. Maria Gomez is an absolute wonder. She has done things to my hair that have made me feel so good about myself. I'd like to recommend Katelyn, a hair stylist I worked with. She was so easy to talk to, which made my first time experience at Aveda really memorable. She served me Aveda's comforting tea (ingredients: peppermint leaf, basil leaf, fennel, and licorice root) that was aromatically sweet and refreshing to the taste. It definitely helped loosen some of those knots in my shoulders. My hair cut was fresh and the styling was natural. Katelyn did such an amazing job. After the haircut she offered me some more tea and even asked if we could play with some makeup. Her service was excellent, and not necessarily high-end and snooty but friendly and courteous, accommodating and sweet. Kelsey is a wonderful stylist here!! Negatives would only be applied to the salon in general, not to Kelsey: 1. You're lucky to have someone answer your call. Quite often only ONE person is in the salon at a time. I've had to have the concierge desk from the mall take written messages to the salon to get a call back since no one bothers to clear the voicemail & make room for new messages. 2. The woman in charge of stock for their products quite often does not order enough AirControl. More than 3 times I've left this salon & had to drive to the Aveda across at the other side of the mall for hairspray. 3. This is supposed to be a "higher level salon" where you can have manicures, massages etc, but none of those folks ever seem to be here. Also, you are supposed to get a complimentary hand massage while here & that never happens. 4. Once asked, good luck receiving your water or tea if the person who checks you in has to multitask at anything else. read more

I loved my stylist/colorist, BUT the salon receptionist did him in. My stylist was super popular, translation: busy! I need to get my hair colored just about every 3/4 weeks. Because he didn't work late during the week my only option was Saturday. And because he was super popular (busy) he would double and sometimes triple book. That translated to me spending two/three (sometimes longer - depending) hours at the salon every 3/4 weeks. However, everyone knows when you find someone that can cut/color correctly you overlook all of the inconsequentials. I guess I should also say it is not exactly cheap having one of the salon "stars" as your stylist especially every 3/4 weeks. Often I would leave with wet hair since I am naturally curly forgoing the blow dry just because I could not spend anymore time there. I was never given a discount for no blow dry and again it was something I just overlooked. Now I had been going to the salon for quite a number of years - and for emphasis I always made my appointments before I left the salon or called weeks in advance. AND THIS is why I had major issue with the salon: 1st) I had rescheduled an appointment (to remind you Saturday appointments were hard to come by) with the receptionist and when I showed up for the appointment my stylist said he did not have me down for that day. He did his best and worked me in for a color - which I appreciated. 2nd) Another incident was I had an early morning appointment and when I arrived (just about the same time as my stylist and other stylists and their clients) the receptionist was not there yet and NO ONE had a key to get in. So in the mall we all waited. When the receptionist did get there NO key. So she had to leave to go and get the key while we waited. When I made the suggestion that the stylists should have a key in their proverbial back pocket - It was met with the attitude of "we're stylists and we don't have to worry about such menial things" . Umm they kind of did - as we all waited with their next appointments showing up. 3rd strike) And another, I made an appointment and I could tell the receptionist was distracted so I made it a point to tell her my first and last name with spelling (every 3/4 weeks I made the same appointment with the same person- just sayin'). I had a busy day of the appointment so again I made an early appointment. Once again when I showed up, my stylist said he did not have me down (WTF?) and just could not take me. That was it. My gray hair, checkbook and I left and have not been back. My stylist was fantastic, I just could not put up with the mistakes of the incompetent receptionist. BTW - My hair, checkbook and I are very happy with our current stylist/colorist. read more

Bernadette is incredible. I must say that the service and knowledge of cutting and color she provides is top notch. I've let her take creative license with my mixed texture hair and have always received compliments. I've referred her to many colleagues and friends who love her too. She even managed to cut my sisters kinky curly hair into a very chic asymmetrical cut that totally transformed her whole look. I hate over exaggerative reviews but Bernadette is a miracle worker. I had never gone back to the same hair stylist before coming here. And I'm glad to say that I have finally found the best salon around that I can keep coming back to! I've seen Allie a couple times now & she's great! She cut my hair exactly as I wanted it...didn't even need to say much, and she did it just right! I had seen one other girl before her here, but she moved out of state. So I'm just glad that both girls who've cut my hair have been just as awesome! The whole experience is great...you get tea if you want...a little massage & the best hair stylists! I'm confident to say that every one here are all great & very well experienced in what they do. Hi, I went to this salon for an all over hair color and hair cut. I was greeted by a rude girl at the front desk and I was made to wait for 25 minutes in-spite of having an appointment. Both the services I got at this salon were extremely awful... I was attended by Shanall and I really dont think she knows what she is going... I am so disappointed with my hair color -- it turned out to be jet black and I had asked for natural black. Hair cut is awful!! -- worst haircut I ever had!! She is least interested in asking what you want and just does whatever she likes and can do it in least amount of time. I was given an appointment of 2.5 hours for both services.. and in 1 hour into my service, rude front desk girl comes and tells the hair dresser to hurry up and I got this awful hair cut. While checking out, I am asked to pay extra since I took longer and the client after me had to wait for half an hour --- the fact of matter is : I was made to wait for half an hour and then I was kicked out in 1.5 hours with this Shitty service.... these people dont care about their customers, they take more appointments than they can handle and try to do the services in haste!!!! These people took $200 and I regret each and every penny I spent in this place! I am never coming here... and urge future customers to do homework properly before going to this place. I've been going to Aveda Richard Michael Salon since before they were at their South Coast Plaza location. I enjoy going there because their staff is really friendly and efficient. Their list of services are endless, and they really take the time to concentrate on you when you go and pay them a visit. I never really had a preference on who my stylist was until I met Bernadette. She takes your regular hair cut and color beyond your normal experience. The first time I went there, Bernadette sat me down and we talked about my hair: the color that I wanted, the style and the way I wanted it cut. I have really thick and hard to manage hair, so cutting it is usually not a fun experience for me. Most of the people that work on my hair rarely get it right, but Bernadette really listened to what I wanted and did it just the way I wanted. It's usually pretty difficult for me to describe how I want someone to color my hair. There are so many different ways to do it and so many different colors to choose from. What's great about Bernadette is that she really takes into account your look, style and the tones that match your look. She does an excellent job every time I go there, and has never failed me once! Like most people on yelp have said about this place, they keep coming back because of the great quality of service. I keep coming back because I found the best stylist ever!!! After having my last stylist at Toni & Guy NB move less than a year after starting, I found Tim at RM Aveda Salon through a sales manager at SCP. LOVE LOVE LOVE the salon and everyone that works there! Everyone is wonderful and professional. I am always offered a drink (herbal tea), hand massage, ring cleaning, and snacks! The salon is always busy and Tim's always booked weeks in advance. Today I went with Karen, Richard's assistant, and really happy with my haircut as well. All the stylists seem to be happy and stay with the salon for a long time - a BIG PLUS when you've had to change a stylist each year for the last 3 yrs. They always take the time to listen to what I want and never push for something I don't. And they always give you full attention. Even though the salon is always busy, it never seems loud or chaotic - always peaceful. This is different than the pace at Toni & Guy NB, where it was always loud and a million things going on. read more

By far the best Aveda salon in all of Orange County...and I would know I worked at about 4 of them! I was a client of the salon I saw Scott for my hair. I fell in love with products, location, and most importantly the staff. The atmosphere of this place is like no other salon, everyone is happy, the music is always up beat and current, all the clients are regulars and it has that family vibe going on! Kelly is amazing for facials and waxing...I didn't see anyone other than her for almost 3 years straight! Hair on the other hand...you can literally go to any stylist in the salon and leave 100% satisfied. I strongly recommend Kelsey, Katelyn, and Bern! If you really have the big bucks see Richard...he runs the place...it's one of those sit down-shut up-well talk clothes, decorating and diamonds only...he is a hair god! Good luck getting in with him though, his waiting list is a minimum 6 months! But like I said, you can go to ANY stylist here and leave more than satisfied! If you need the most clean cut and relaxing mani pedi you can ever ask for see Leila! She is the nicest and has the most calming touch...she does gel and regular they last forever!
