I walked the employee through what I didn't want and got exactly what I specifically said I didn't want! Now my scalps visible, I have a white line around the bottom of my hairline all around my neck and simply put the hair is not cut professionally as it's longer where it needs not be. I could've gone to the barber and gotten this hair cut for a 3rd of this l price. Th3 fees these people are charging for a bad haircut just put me over the edge and pissed me off. Hard pass. I had an amazing experience with Kevin. I made a mess of my hair during Covid (DIY coloring and cutting) and Kevin brought my hair back to life. It was the best haircut I've ever received. The layers were perfectly framed for my face and I had so much beautiful volume. The bayalage color was so beautifully designed, I didn't know my dark hair could have that level of dimension. These photos don't do my hair justice. The yellow lights added an orange tint. But the color was a beautiful neutral shade of caramel brown. Kevin is a considerate stylist and a lovely human being. What I am about to write is a good example of why it is important for gratitude to be a part of our life. Last year during the pandemic I visited Vicara and got a hair cut from Sussana. Given the challenging times, I gave her a 100% tip. That's right I doubled what I had paid for a haircut. I call back last week and am told that she no longer cuts men's hair. That is fine! I asked Vicara would she be kind enough to take 30 seconds to explain to another stylist what she had done the last time. She flatly refused! Vicara - you continue to employ a stylist who obviously amplifies your values! You had one store that shut down in Torrance! El Segundo will be next. Don't take your customer for granted! We have more choices than you do. For anyone reading this review - speak in unison and embrace businesses that espouse values that are kind, respectful and grateful to their customers. I have booked a wash and cut here 3-4 times in the past with pleasant outcomes which is why this review was difficult to make. Prior stylists have always been fantastic, friendly and professional. This time I took an inspiration pic and had never met this stylist before, her name was Patricia. Started off fine, didn't really wash my hair with much effort like prior stylist, but whatever. Move to the chair and the conversation goes in the direction of her talking about how lazy she is to how peoples "asses stink". Unusual conversation for a hair cut but I'm not a prude and smile and nod. The laziness comment did throw me though bc as the hair cut went on I realized this was a lazy cut, and when it got to the blow drying I was even more displeased and disappointed because I know how much these cuts and styles cost at $90 a pop here and the $50 one at Dry bar around the corner was better by a mile. My hair was dreary flat and clearly as her last client as stated by her she was done for the day. I didn't bother to complain although disappointed by the outcome because once your hair is cut there's not much to be done to fix it. It was nothing like the inspiration pic and it's far too late to fix, hair is cut it's gone. When the receptionist asked if everything was fine I said yes, paid and left knowing I probably will find a new salon worth the price for someone who isn't as self described "lazy". Is what it is. I highly recommend requesting for Issell Pinto as your hair stylist. After going through many bad hair stylists and bad haircuts, I've finally found the hair stylist for me. Issell is the only person I will trust with my hair. I know when I leave her chair that I will be feeling beautiful and tossing my hair for days. Issell Pinto first took my hair's virginity with a soft balayage. She comforted me throughout the whole process asking me what I was looking for. And honestly, after that first time, I knew I would keep coming back! I've went back to her after that for a haircut to trim my hair to a straight bob. Recently, I went back to her again to change my hair color all together to a light pink color, but keeping the straight bob. She always listens to what I want to achieve and lets me know from the start what can and can't be done, such as the pastel pink I wanted might not be achievable because my hair was so dark. She also listed out the pricing and broke down why the price is how it is, which is great so you know what you're getting yourself into. From there, it was smooth sailing--she makes you feel comfortable by offering you water to drink and is great to talk to so it's never awkward, even with the massive amount of foil on your head during the bleaching process! Throughout the process, she tells you what is going to happen next and what she will be doing, so you are never in the dark about the process. By the end of it, she makes sure you are satisfied with how your hair turned out, if not, she is willing to change the color or fix it to your liking. But I've never had the problem to fix because the three times she's done my hair, I've been really happy to see the end results. In this case, I love my pink hair! She tells you how to maintain your hair so you can keep it salon perfect when you go home. I've gotten so many compliments on my pink hair and it has stayed in tact after three washes. I have nothing but praise and compliments for the service Issell gave me this time and the times prior. I highly recommend choosing Issell Pinto if you ever go to Aveda for a haircut and/or color! read more

Been going to Lauren for a few years. Saw Vivian for one appointment because Lauren called in sick. Receptionist mistakenly scheduled next appointment with Vivian instead of Lauren. Took off work early and drove from Beverly Hills in traffic. Vivian refused to honor appointment because I'm a client of Lauren. Lauren was booked for the day. Neither spoke to me. Kevin was very helpful, professional, attentive, and I could tell that he cared about the outcome as much as I was. I hate to leave a bad review but I'm so disappointed with the haircut I got here. I asked for a 1 inch trim and they cut several short layers in my hair as much as 5 inches off my length. I don't know why they would cut so many short layers if I didn't have short layers in my hair and just wanted a simple trim.. I'm so sad because it took me years to grow out my hair and loved my hair.. Maybe I didn't communicate properly but I thought 1 inch off would have made sense. I love this place and have been going for years. Kym is my go too stylist but she is about to go on maternity leave so I was paired with Kevin and he also gave me such a great cut/color. They only employ the top stylists and they have them train hard and really earn their spots as stylists to represent Vicara as a top spot for quality hair care. It isn't cheap but they don't push products on you (I live that) and I've shopped around and believe me your get what you pay for. Any of the stylists here will take good care of you. I called asking how much a blowout was, gal on the phone said $45. Ok, I couldn't get into Dry Bar so went to Aveda. I asked for beachy waves/loose curls and the lady said she could do that. At the end, I had a long straight hair, which was fine, but no waves and no curls. Then the front desk told me my blowout was $55 ($10 more) because I asked for waves. I turned around, showed them my hair and asked them if my hair looked wavy. BOTH said NO, but that is what I asked for. Ok, so if you ask for wavy hair and you don't get it, you still have to pay extra??? Never heard of that business model before. lesson learned: book dry bar further in advance. read more

If a salon could be rated less than one star, this would be the winner. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. To begin with, the staff is unprofessional. From the desk to the chair, no one understood what it meant to be in the customer service industry. 1. When you are eventually seated (after waiting over 15 minutes) a stylist forces you sign a document agreeing to the price, but if you read the document, it is a waiver for toxicity in the products. 2. Even "senior stylist" are incompetent. Stylist refused to use formula from another Aveda salon. 3. Stylist leave clients in their chair to tell the front desk staff that they can't use other's formula--wasting my time and still not putting color on me or putting the client's needs first. 3. When you ask for a manager, they say there isn't one on staff. AND when you ask for the manager to call your phone to follow up on your experience, you never get a call. 4. Even the signature Aveda hot tea was cold. 5. Staff is disrespectful, rude, and has an attitude problem. If you are in the customer service industry, learn to treat others with kindness and listen to them. If you want to tell someone what to do and how to look, get a mannequin from beauty school. Get your act together or get out of business. No one needs to spend over $200 to be treated like this. My experience could go on for days, but bottom line--BUYER BE WARE. read more

The first time I came here was about four years ago and my friend booked my appointment because she liked this salon. However when she booked my appointment she didn't ask for color and so they said they could only give me the cut. A little disappointed but completely understood. Fast forward to present time & I made an appointment for this week. When I called I asked for a color and cut and they booked me and that was that. I was a little confused because they didn't ask any extra details about my hair or what color I was dying it. When I get to my appointment I show the hair stylist what I wanted. She asked if I dyed my hair before I said I box dyed it about 2 years ago to which she tells me that it is essentially a color correction and she doesn't have time. she told me she only had me down for a basic cut and color, when I never even mentioned what color I was doing when I called. Which again completely understood but the customer service about it just isn't there. & I had driven all the way from Burbank which was an hour away. If I was supposed to have a consultation or take extra steps I wish I would've known before making the appointment and wasting so much time and gas. I understand these things happen but some clarification from the beginning would have been nice. I would advise if you are going to come here to be as descriptive with the receptionist or pop in person so you don't waste your time as well. read more

I've been coming here for years . My last 3 appointments I was absolutely disappointed. After all The money I spent ! I ask for one thing and in the last three visits was disappointed. first, I saw Kevin .. I had asked for a brown to match my natural hair color . he didn't know what he was doing, he mixed colors and gave me black. And might I add I was ready to CRY !! Horrendous. After the visit I called and they offered to fix it. it was OK not much of a fix . my hair is still recovering.. Today I went in again . Vivian , sweet lady really. But I clearly said I wanted a balayage and she gave me highlights . I wanted my natural root color on my roots and to ombré out . She fixed my hair after Kevin and my hair was just becoming orange . in the recent appointment she left orange strips and I have highlights . Now I have to wait to fix it ! I was told about this place and made an appointment. I ended up canceling going to another place I found on Yelp with amazing reviews. Well, I wish I would have stuck with my appointment here as I had a horrible experience at the other place. I learned my lesson and came in today for a cut, style and color. I worked with Monique and she is really nice. She was fun, chatty and responsive to my questions. It was an ease to talk to her. Most people were on the phone while their stylists were working on their hair but I enjoyed talking with Monique about each other's lives. She showed me some color swatches of what she felt would match the look I was going for and compliment my skin. She said they wouldn't come out as dark on my hair since these swatches were dyed on white hair. It came out crazy dark. Pretty much black and cooper highlights. I didn't have her fix it because I figured I could live with it. I couldn't. I went back in two days later for it to be fixed. They got me a shade darker (from black) and bleached the highlights. I had to go to work and let it go. Well I couldn't live with that either so I went and got a box of Color Oops and took out all the hair day and then box dyed. It was very expensive (at least for me!) I originally was booked with a senior stylist but was told it would be around $350. I went down a couple of tiers and it still ended up being over $300 with tip. What can I say? The place is really nice but I didn't get the results I showed them after two visits and $340 (have to tip on the second visit) Once I took matters into my own hand and spent another $20 on box dyes, I got what I should have received. read more

I've been coming to Aveda vicara for a while and I'm soo disappointed in this last service. I went in for a balayage with a dusty rose tone. I was left with a really warm pink tone that almost looked orange. After one wash the pink was gone and I was left with an AWFUL orange color and my roots are so dark that it looks like I did the balayage myself. For $350 I could have gone to a better salon with results that I wanted. Now I have to color my hair back and waste even more money to get this color corrected. Talk about deceiving. I made an appt for $70 partial highlights but was charged $175! When I made the appt I asked how much it was for partial highlights and I was told it depends on the stylist, but the range is $70-100. I asked to be scheduled with a stylist who was on the lower end, and they confirmed that my appt would be $70. However the day of my highlights when I went to pay they said it was $175! I did a triple take and asked why the bill was over $100 more than what I was told it would cost when I made the appt. They said it was +$40 because I asked for a second highlight color (I've never been charged for this, and I've been getting highlights for about 15 years). It was +$45 because the stylist used a toner (which I didnt ask for, she just did it, but regardless I've never experienced an extra charge for this either. Also apparently toner has a price range of $20-45 and supposedly I fall into the highest category of 'extra long' hair even though my hair doesn't come past my armpits.) It was +$20 because a 'deep conditioner' was used. (Mind you this wasn't a 10 min masque or olaplex treatment. And the same conditioner can be purchased in the shop for $40, but I was charged half that for just one use. I would have asked for a volumizing conditioner if I knew the 'deep' one would be so expensive.) Vicara, your stylists need to be fully transparent up front with customers when it comes to any additional charge other than what was booked. This is sort of sneaky upcharging is criminal! read more
