SOOO GOOD! I went here for valentine's day this past Friday and I was not disappointed! The portions are HUGE, the food is insanely good, and the service is excellent. Our waiter was really helpful with the menu and did not rush us at all with making decisions, and even made a suggestion for a new wine and let us try it out! We ordered the bruschetta to start, which was a huge portion and so good! The bread was chopped up into bite size pieces which is so smart as I always find it annoying when the bread falls apart and gets really messy. By the time our salads and dinners came we could barely eat any! I got the bolognese which was so good and my boyfriend got a shrimp pasta dish which he loved! Definitely will be going there again as the prices are really reasonable and the overall experience was great! read more

Came here because of good reviews. Scant number of diners might have been a clue athough that seemed to be true of most of town Sunday eve. Very disappointing. While I dont expect most US Italian places to measure up to my many trips to italy, this was particularly anemic. Bread dry and olive oil cloudy and low quality. Pasta Fagoili was okay but would have been better with fresh sausage, not spam like pepperoni. Caprese salad had anemic tomatos, small amount of wilty basil, the same low quality olive oil instead of balsamic vinegar (acceptable and italian but should have been better quality) The mozerella was also not great qualty and all served with excess of sliced garlic. (Ps true Italian chefs if serving raw garlic, remove the hearts, interior shoot part.) I had thought about ordering bronzino, one of favorite dishes. Suspect glad i did not. read more

We arrived on a Sunday around 7pm, which must be Avellino's busy takeout and dining time. Result was service was a bit slow. Food was good. Pasta was cooked correctly. Wife had verdura with linguine and i had peppers and sausage over spaghetti. Sausage and peppers seemed to have been boiled instead of fried - i prefer fried sausage and peppers. There were no sear or fry marks on the sausage or peppers. Tomato sauce was good and wife asked for a small bowl for her pasta dish because like the sauce, too. Olive oil dipping sauce was good, but first bread serving had been sitting out and was a bit stale on one side; it was not warmed. Second bread serving was hard. Great service, and the food came quickly. The bread and dipping oil were really good - the little Italian loaf was piping hot and crusty, and the olive oil was that perfect nutty/bitter combo. Started with the antipasti platter, which was loaded with olives, meats, and cheeses. Ended up boxing up half of it (which would turn out to be a running theme). My date and I both ordered from the Pasta Creazioni menu, which lets you custom make pretty much any pasta entree you can think up. My dining partner ordered the Meatballs with Tomato Sauce and Penne, and I had the Carnivoro (meatballs, sausage, and a delicious Bolognese sauce) and Penne. Both were amazing, and both were portioned so big that we took half of both entrees back to the hotel for breakfast the next day. Not sure how often we'll be back in Blacksburg, but if we do happen to come through, this spot is definitely on the list. It should be on yours too. read more

My colleague and I were on work-related travel to Dublin, VA and decided to drive by Blacksburg on Thursday evening to find a dining spot, since Dublin didn't have that many choices. The location is somewhat hidden in the shopping complex but eventually we found our way to it. As we walked in, we found the interior to be appealing with old Roman touches and clean tables. Being a weekday during summer vacation in a college town, it was pretty quiet - just us and a couple on another table. The very friendly waiter (male with beard) approached us and went over the menus (food menu, drinks menu, etc.). I ordered a large 'supreme' pizza and my colleague, a vegetarian, got to order his dish. The bread and oil with Italian seasonings were good. Once the main course arrived and as I dug in, I found the pizza to be pretty good - the cheese, the sauce, the crust and the toppings (meat and vege). Not as good as an authentic Italian pizza here in Greensboro, but still good. There were no funny cheeses on it like parmesan, etc. which was good. There were a couple of female waitresses who helped deliver stuff on the table - they were not super friendly like the male waiter and could use some words like 'no problem' etc. when I say 'Thank you' instead of silently delivering food and walking away. Once I completed my meal, I wanted to use the restroom to degrease my hands. I looked around and couldn't easily spot the restroom - I asked a female in front and she and another male at the counter directed me towards the back (which I'd initially thought was the backdoor to kitchen). As I walked there, I saw a bunch of workers sitting near the counter and chatting and laughing - I guess it wasn't busy, probably that's why. If I were a business owner, I would discourage that - it is not good ethics when customers are around. They can do it if they restaurant is empty. Sitting, chatting and laughing (all at the same time) in front of the customer is very unprofessional. Since we were on business travel, I needed to pack up the left overs so I can take it home to NC. The friendly waiter put the leftover pizza in a large box for me when it dawned on me that I have a small portable refrigerator in the hotel - so upon my request, he gave me 3 small boxes. Since I already washed my hands and we had to leave, I didn't want to transfer the pizzas in the restaurant. So I went up to the female at the counter and asked for a bag. She said the bag will be too small to fit the boxes. I told her it's only for the small boxes, not for the large one (obviously). But anyway, I just left without a bag since I thought there might be a spare grocery bag from home. Concluding: - Very good ambience - Great male waiter - Good food - Some improvements in ethical behavior from staff needed - Need indicator sign for restroom direction. read more

The server was polite the Caprese salad was served without balsamic and tomatoes were not fresh. The entrées were pitiful. My friend and I split two dishes, we have never been to avellinos but had previously been to the Sals in the same building prior (nothing has really changed). Except they didn't have the dish I always got, carbonara. We split the sausage Cremosa and the Bellini. The sausage cremosa was delicious but the Bellini was horrible. The sauce was not good, it was more like steak fat oil that was leftover from cooking the steak in the pasta... and for 17.95!! Kinda ridiculous to be honest. The steak was very fatty as well. I will give them the rest was good but really disappointed to get a bad dish for a birthday! read more

I've been here three times so far, either for dates or business meetings, and it's been wonderful each time! I've had the Porcini Shrimp, Pasta Gorgonzola, and the Seafood Ravioli, and I would order any one of them again. The seafood and sauces are so delicious and the pasta is always cooked perfectly. The portion sizes are huge, so come hungry! The atmosphere is nice and clean, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. My number of good restaurants in BB has risen to 2. Had lunch here today with my wife. It was a pleasure. The service was very Good! A rarity in BB quite frankly. Our server, Sean, was attentive, friendly, and very professional. Totally enhanced the experience for us. The food was delicious and very fresh, from salad to entree. Finally, for an added touch, Sean boxed our stuff up for us, even though other servers in the place didn't do THAT for their patrons. He went that extra step!! Tried this place on a whim Saturday night. I had the meat calzone, which was very good. Our kids both got Alfredo and both loved it (a miracle). My wife had the blackened chicken fettuccine. We sat at the bar and was greeted quickly by Zac We ordered drinks and relaxed for a while, unwinding from our long travels. Delicious bread and dipping sauce served why we checked out the menu. My husband ordered the seafood combo and I had a calzone. The food was delicious !!!! This restaurant has only been opened for a month or so but you would never know it by food quality and service! He liked the mussels, but didn't like the sauce that came with his pasta. My chicken tasted different than other Chicken Marsala I've had. Again, just ok.
