I love this place and will definitely come back! The vodka sauce is really creamy and rich but it is a large portion so great to share or leftovers. The mussels are a must with the white wine sauce that is great to dip with bread. Our server was super sweet and I look forward to coming back. read more

My dad and were are on a trip from NC and Yelped Italian restaurants and this one came up. They did not disappoint. The portions are huge, the bread was yummy and the salad was fresh with the good kind of homemade ranch dressing! Great atmosphere too. read more

Not sure what happened this time (later in the day, very busy, definitely less experienced server), but I looked forward to having a pleasant last dinner with my son before dropping him off for his first year in college here and it was extremely disappointing to say the least. Although the food was good, it was not as good, the service was fair at best, and we were seated in the back near the kitchen amd toilets. Being an African American woman of a certain age, I didn't appreciate being literally crammed into the back of the restaurant when there were plenty of other wide open spaces to seat us. I requested moving to the patio and our server made us stand and wait until she checked if a table other than the tiny two seater that she was offering was free. After a bit of a wait, another server came and asked if we were okay. When we explained the situation, she said we could sit anywhere. Strange, because as she spoke to us, our actual server bursted through the door to tell us we can sit anywhere. Hmmm. The last strange thing was the server came out prior to our finishing our meal to say we had to "pay the tab now so she could close the table inside". Hmmmm. Perhaps she felt we were going to leave without paying by jumping the patio barrier? Well, again, as a women of color of a certain age, I found this interesting and somewhat unsettling. I have suggested this restaurant to several others lately, but will retract those suggestions and I will not burden this establishment with my presence again. read more

The food is really tasty! I went to this restaurant twice and once got the linguini and white clam sauce which was very good and classic tasting. The last time I went I ordered the chicken saltimbocca. It was delicious, however not the traditional way it's typically made. It tasted more like a garlicky chicken francese with capers and spinach with mozzarella and prosciutto on top of the chicken. The food is also pretty well priced for the amount of food you get. I got a glass of wine, great bread with really good oil, a decently size Cesar salad (which came with the entree), and my entree all for $30. I even had leftovers for the next day. The pizza is one of my favorite in town, though can be a bit wet with the sauce. I love the quality of the ingredients and always order it cooked extra. Service can be slow sometimes, but it's usually good. I like the array of menu options, and the atmosphere is nice (it's not their fault I dislike Sinatra-type crooning that is played at most Italian restaurants). Parking very easy. After going back and trying a different dish I updated my two star rating to a four star rating. The Blackened chicken dish I got was a total bust and I'm still salty about how salty the whole dish was. But... my sausage cremosa pasta this time around was delicious! I love this place! Avellinos is the best Italian I've had in Blacksburg. The waiters provide excellent wine pairings to whichever entree. Fresh bread served with zesty olive oil dipping sauce. Most entrees also come with a refreshing, chilled salad. Amazing pasta (the angel hair is to die for) and hearty portions. The Alfredo sauce was decadent. I got the Seafood Combinata with whole wheat penne which was really flavorful -- a lot more than I expected, actually. The penne was perfectly cooked and very chewy. It's not bad at all. My friend got a veal dish. The veal was tender, but the dish was less flavorful comparing to the Seafood Combinata. It didn't taste bad either. Ordered takeout from Avellinos the other night. My daughter liked the chicken parm and I actually had the Italian cheese steak which was really good. Could have used to toast the bun a bit but otherwise it was great! I think this is a better option by far than Italianos for a number of reasons. Traveling thru the area and found this great restaurant. Tired of eating at the "chain restaurants" so we chose this one. We started off with calamari which was very lightly dusted before cooking. Very generous portion, delicious. My wife had the chicken marsala and same thing, very lightly coated, which added to the great taste, I had the seafood cremola which was served in a creamy peppercorn sauce and was beyond excellent. Top this all of with a very warm and wonderful server named Cherub. She was very attentive and a pleasure talking with. The food was so good. But they rushed us from start to finish. Salads came out. A few minutes later, out comes the antipasti. Just s few minutes later they brought they main course. All three on the table at once. Waiters dropped plates on the table not worried about whether or not it fit. Then the coup de gras: the server asked us if we wanted boxes while all four of us were still eating! Really--with silverware in our hands. What's the rush? There were 4 or 5 tables open all night! Seriously Yelpers? I was not impressed with our meal. We had just moved our freshman into the dorms at VT and we were ravenous from the activity. Rabid rabbit ravenous! Yelpers said, fantastic bread and dipping oil. The dipping oil was fantastic but the bread was meh. (Panera has better bread.) I had to ask for the bread after receiving our drinks and placing our orders. Yelpers said the portions were large. Yes, bigger than my face large, but large doesn't mean delicious. Our group ordered linguine with clams in an olive oil garlic sauce (it smelled like low tide, very clammy smell), penne pasta with sausage and peppers (this meal was good) and blackened chicken fettuccine in alfredo sauce (slightly greasy alfredo sauce, chicken was blackened but not grilled. It was okay.) What sealed the deal for 3 stars was when our waiter asked if we wanted cheese. Yes please! Out came the Parmesan cheese shaker onto the table. No high end cheese and no cheese grater. Just the regular stuff I have in the fridge at home. My plate was $19.95, give me good cheese! read more

Spent just one night in the area and searching for a good restaurant. Chose Avellinos based on reviews and the large menu selection. I drove 20 minutes to get there and was NOT disappointed. Our waitress was superb- very professional and offered suggestions to help us dissect the large menu. We decided on traditional items. This food is absolutely phenomenal! We had COVID a few weeks back and my mom got this delivered. I barely had any sense of taste and still thought the chicken bravo was out of this world. Now that we are recovered, we chose this place for a nice night out. I got the seafood ravioli and my partner got the veal saltimbocca. We got fried calamari to start and a bottle of their house moscato. I could not have been more pleased with the incredible food taste and quality. We made the payment a little difficult by splitting it onto gift cards and the restaurant manager was able to handle it all and with a smile! The owner was very kind as we spoke on our way out. The dining environment is decent and the portion size worth the money (though the cost is a little more expensive than other restaurants in Blacksburg). Service there was very friendly, attentive and efficient. It is a good place to have a formal meal for dinners. The only thing that can be improved is that my Linguini pasta accompanied with the surf and turf is a little bland. But they offer table salt any way. read more
