Charming atmosphere and nice service. Unfortunately if you are from the New York/ New Jersey area you would not consider this Italian food. Pepperoni does not belong in pasta fagoli soup. Chicken Francese is not breaded. The red sauce is not edible. The Penne Vodka is more like a cross of Mac and cheese and penne vodka. Mushrooms do not belong in penne vodka. I was in town for a College visit and grabbed dinner alone while my daughter experienced the campus. It was near my hotel and boy was I glad. Sat at the bar and got great service from Blaze. I highly recommend this place! While on a road trip from NJ to Nashville stopped here for dinner. We ordered the bruschetta ( heads up there is A LOT of bread) the balsamic glaze was delish! After she split the chicken frances. Was a perfect Portion to split between 2 people. All portions are huge so no fear just an entree won't be enough. Not a good experience unfortunately. Food was ok I had worse Italian food, had Chicken Parmigiana with pasta. Chicken was piping hot almost had a Microwave taste, the pasta was barely warm. Service was disappointing, sat for 10ish minute with empty drink, and another 15ish for the check. In the meantime was watching the waiting staff on their phones sitting down, and couple playing around like little kids. Wow! This little gem was amazing! Probably the best Alfredo I have ever had!! Lauren, my server, was on point. Adequately checked the table. Very polite, personable and professional. I follow a keto diet and was able to sub extra broccoli for the pasta. I have to admit, I did taste the bread and oil they brought to the table. Again, amazing! I used the oil mix on my salad. Food 3 + ambiance 4 + value 2 + service 6 = overall 3.3 / 10 (poor) This is a pricier place, and our food was poor. My veal marsala was tough and bland and cost $18.95. I tasted no marsala and left half the meat rather than eat it. When I looked over at my partner's lasagna, it was a pool spread to the circumference of his round plate. Do not expect a delicious, firm stack of rectangle layers. He ate literally three bites. (Good thing he'd had the salad before.) He was so disappointed. I felt so sad for him. Also, FYI, it was sausage-style, not ground beef. The only thing absolutely perfect was the spaghetti, which was the accompaniment for my veal. Thick, firm, cooked to perfection. It was the main of what I ate. The dining room space is rather hard and dark. High ceilings, tile floor, scant textiles, little natural light. Layers of browns. Angel and cherub sculptures. Note, we *are* repeat customers of Avellino's take-out pizza. But we will not dine in here again. read more

This is the best Italian restaurant in Blacksburg. First, bring back the Sausage Pomodore sandwich(sausage crumbles in red wine reduction with tomatoes and blue cheese), the calzone isn't the same. I got an Eggplant Parmesan deep dish pizza with sausage and soppresata, and it was 110% worth it! I found the soppresata to be not as good as the sausage, but it wasn't a big deal. Their portions are huge. The chicken parm and spaghett is big enough for two meals, and I'm saving this as a big guy(for you). They sell a side order of Alfredo, and it's excellent. I got a side of the meatballs, and they were pretty good if you're craving meatballs. Very excited to try more things from this place in the future. read more

My first time at this restaurant. We were seated and read through the menu. No one came by to get our drink order. We had already picked out what we wanted when a second couple was seated. Then a third couple was seated. A waitress came and got the drink order for the third couple. When she came back she got their food order. Then someone came and took the second couple's drink order and their appetizer order. Meanwhile, we were still sitting there. No one, not even the two waitresses or the guy who brought the bread, asked if we needed anything. So we got up and left. I know all the townies will say this is an isolated incident, etc. But, they were not busy. There were at least three waitpersons, plus the guy with the bread and the woman bussing tables. This is absolutely terrible customer service and no amount of apologize will bring us back. read more

Today was not one of their better days. I ordered a white pizza with basil, garlic and sausage on half. There was no basil. I payed $2.75 for that basil! Money down the drain now. The sausage was a huge disappointment. It was sliced so thin that it burnt in the oven. The taste was awful. I am used to sauga4e being lumped on top of the pizza. I guess that is not how Avellinos does it. All-in-all a bad experience and pizza down the drain. read more

I love this place. The food is on par with Italian food I've had in Los Angeles, New York and Connecticut. The linguini with clams is my favorite. The pizza and wings are awesome too. I also really like the ribeye and shrimp salad. I eat there every time I'm in Blacksburg. read more

We decided to try this restaurant after seeing all the yummy looking food pics on their Facebook page. It definitely didn't disappoint. The food was delicious, and the portions were so big that we were able to take leftovers home for our lunch the next day. The atmosphere was lovely and very authentic Italian decor. Our server was very friendly and took great care of us, and made sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely be going there many more times. It will be our go-to place anytime we are in the mood for Italian food. I definitely recommend anyone who loves pasta to try the lasagna!! read more

The service is great, the ambiance is marred by how popular the place is and the music. If you have any hearing difficulties and/or want good conversations, you might want to go elsewhere. We recently visited Blacksburg for a campus tour, while there we ate here both nights. The first night we had just a plain cheese pizza. The pizza was good and I would definitely eat it again. The second night I had the three entrees of manicotti, chicken parmigiana and spaghetti with bolognese sauce. The only thing I would pick differently was the spaghetti. The rest was amazing. My wife had baked ziti which was great. It had chunks of ricotta cheese. And my daughter picked chicken Alfredo and this may have been the best I've ever had. 110% would recommend. We haven't had a bad meal there. The service is always great. When we order takeout pizza, our order is a little complicated, but they always get it right. The owner has grandparents from the Avellino province in Italy, about 10 miles from Mt. Vesuvius. Our party of five ordered four strombolis and one Italian sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the serving size was generous. However the reason for two stars is because THE SERVICE IS PAINFULLY SLOW. After bringing out the (dry and bland) bread appetizer, our server was nowhere to be seen. After about 5 minutes, he dropped off another basket of bread (w/o a refill of the much needed EVOO) and walked away before taking our drink orders. We asked a random server for another basket of bread because we were so hangry. Again, no EVOO. Three baskets of bread and 15 minutes later, our server finally took our orders. Then, after an almost 30 minute wait, we asked why our food was taking so long and he replied that everything has to bake. My son jokingly said they must be using a candle to cook our food. When we finally received our food, it was warm (they should have used a bigger candle.) However, the marinara sauce that came with our meals was piping hot! I think the food got cold while sitting out waiting to be served. They probably serve the sauce so hot that you: 1. forget how hungry you are, 2. forget how long you had to wait for your food, and/or 3. don't notice how cold the inside of your boli is. Our server was friendly enough but dull and uninterested. The dining area was dark and dreary but the bathroom was clean. read more
