Cozy restaurant with only eleven tables. This restaurant has been around for two and a half years and based on all the great Yelp reviews, I had to give it a try. Recommendation# 1 To avoid the crowds, go on a weekday. We did not have any problem getting a table on a Thursday morning. Recommendation #2 Definitely order the Eggs Benedict. We tried the shrimp avocado and the southern. Both were tasty and quite filling. Ordered with hash browns. Looking forward to trying the other items on the menu. It's been a while since I had a breakfast I liked that much. These guys totally deserve "five stars"! If I could give them 10 stars, I would. Great food, very friendly and professional staff, they are everything you need when you're looking to have a good breakfast - especially when you're on a vacation and want everything to go well. It's a pretty small cafe, but the wait is not that bad and it worth it. Street parking is a problem, BUT(!) there's a big paid parking lot across Capitola Ave up the hill. There are a couple of benches outside the cafe for those who're waiting. We ordered a couple of different plates of Eggs Benedict and a breakfast quesadilla. Everything was delicious. I wish I wasn't that full after we finished eating, otherwise I'd order something else from their menu to try. So good job, Avenue Cafe Team. My favorite breakfast spot in town! Anything on this small hometown style diner is a safe choice! Great mix of American classics and some Mexican breakfast cuisine as well. I also recently tried their Sake Bloody Mary, didn't expect it to be good but it was delicious! Small quaint restaurant close to downtown Capitola. Was in town for the 15th annual car show and we had breakfast at our favorite breakfast place Avenue Cafe. Avenue Cafe is located in a small house close to downtown Capitola. The food and service at this place are great. The wait to get in can be a bit long, but that is the sign of a superior restaurant. I had "The Avenue" a 3 egg omelet (stuffed with artichokes, tomatoes, spinach, and feta cheese). This was one awesome omelet. On the side was hash browns and whole wheat toast. Of course I ordered coffee to accompany the breakfast spread. My breakfast was delicious, just like the ten other times I have eaten here. After breakfast I was more than ready for a day of looking at classic cars. read more

Found this small gem when spending the weekend in Capitola. Nestled in this adorable little town, this very busy restaurant had a long line of people whiling to wait for a table. The dinning room is small, but they turn the tables pretty quickly. They have an outdoor waiting area with chairs for your convenience while you wait. There's a large pay to park parking lot right across the street and plenty of cute boutique stores to pass the time while you wait. The food was delicious, quick and service was great. I've been going to the Avenue café for years. I usually go in alone and sit at the bar. This morning I was told I am not allowed to sit at the bar even though there were three stools and no one sitting there. Apparently the owner, Tony has told his staff not to allow people to sit at the bar. In my opinion, if there's no sitting at the bar, then remove the stools. A few minutes after I took a seat at a table a friend of the Cook came in and sat at the bar. The same lady who declined me to sit, allowed him to sit and served him donuts from the cooks . I feel this was very rude and unjust treatment to a regular customer. I'm not looking for any special treatment. I was alone and doing what I have been doing for years. If the owner is telling his staff not to allow people to sit at the bar, then he needs to remove the stools and ask his staff appropriately state the reasoning to the customer, instead of rudely telling them "the owners says people are not allowed to sit there." I do not feel like spending my money there any longer! read more

We've seen Avenue Cafe many times before when visiting Capitola Village and Beach Area. It's very close to the big parking lots just off Capitola Avenue. They are very popular and on weekends and holidays you can expect a wait. We really enjoyed the Turkey and Avocado Eggs Benedict. Turkey was juicy and flavorful, hollandaise sauce was pretty perfect, although one of our poached eggs was a tad overdone and almost cooked through. Came with a side of potatoes (hash browns our country style) and fresh fruit. We also tried the Avenue Quesadilla with added chicken. It was ok, and could probably have done with more cheese. Overall food is decent, and the servers are very friendly, but if it wasn't for the location and attraction of nearby Capitola Beach and the Village Shops, I find the food quality and value quite a bit better at Harbor Cafe by the Santa Cruz Wharf Area. I bumped them up to 4 stars for the friendly service and great location for Capitola Beach visitors. read more

What a great find! I popped in on a Sunday - party of one. I was able to sit at the bar. This is a very busy place, which speaks to their popularity. Staff is very attentive and friendly. I had the Smoked Salmon Avocado Eggs Benedict. They bring your dish of fresh fruit first, which I think is a nice way to start off the meal while you are waiting. Wow - this place blew me away. I came here one weekend for the Capitola Begonia festival, and decided to stop by here for a quick brunch first. The cafe is small and quaint, and from the outside it looks like a little house. Since it was so small, they wouldn't seat us until our entire party of four was there so we had to wait a bit as our friend went to park the car. After living in the city for a while, I almost forget how cheap small-town cafes can be. Do you have kids? Are they with you? Then don't come here for breakfast or brunch. I think their target demographic is older people with no children and smaller appetites. Obviously an old converted house, this place is quaint, quiet, with wall to wall windows - and not kid friendly. We were on our own this weekend so we tried it out. Super tight, tiny dining room with low ceilings that my 7' tall husband had to duck under to get to our table. Tables are close together and seating is pretty limited. I can only imagine how my kids would have ruined the time of several patrons had they been there. They are pretty well behaved, but they aren't statues. That being said, the food was pretty good. My husband had the shrimp benedicts and I did the chorizo version (both were specials). To be honest, the chorizo was a little burned. I like mine crispy, but this was too much. Also came with hash browns and a small bowl of fruit, but the portions were so tiny! We literally had to stop at a bakery on the way home to get filled up. Service was friendly, and quick to refill coffee cups. They obviously have a lot of regulars (almost all eligible for AARP memberships), and the owner stopped to chat with several people as he made his way around the dining room. Final verdict? If you aren't crazy hungry, don't have kids with you, and aren't a giant like my husband, you will probably like this place. If you are married to a Clydesdale, are starving, or have kids with you?
