Amid all the new cafes and coffee bizes popping up around Sunnyside, none have enjoyed the the longevity that Avenue Coffee House has had for the last dozen or so years. They've somehow managed to fly below the radar, while still surviving the pandemic. (#1) Thanks to new management, the interior has been spruced up significantly with an all modern feel and a layout that's actually pandemic friendly. It's not big enough to accommodate groups, but a perfect place to enjoy a little Wi-Fi and a little drink. I wouldn't say their coffee is life-changing per se, but it more than gets the job done. Most standard coffee options are available here, from lattes to iced coffees and most are priced well. Like many popular cafes their busiest times are usually in the morning or on occasion the weekend. For the most part the service is quite good. Baristas are friendly and they do a good job at keeping the place clean. This also applies to their bathrooms. I hope they can keep it up and hopefully they won't have to fly under the radar for too long. ______________ (#1) Thank you, new management.

I come here for coffee and sandwiches. I've always felt it overpriced, but enjoyed it enough I suppose. While finishing my BLT I found this hair in the sandwich. Thoroughly disgusted. $16 for OJ and a BLT with a hair in it. I hate to write negative reviews, but I am grossed out and will never be back.

While most places either have really good bagels and mediocre coffee or really good coffee but mediocre bagels, this place found a good balance. Good customization with the bagels and portions as well. Only thing was they the eggs were not seasoned well and were dry/overcooked. Had the avenue coffee which was smooth, strong and just a little sweet. Reasonable prices overall and good place for your brunch/breakfast.

Love this place. Everyone is incredibly sweet. I witnessed the barista chatting patiently and respectfully with a neurodivergent patron who was struggling to communicate and allow another patron to use their bathroom even after she realized she had left her wallet and would need to come back to make a purchase. The muffins (morning glory is delicious) are great as is the popcorn. The space is bright and airy with comfortable seating. I'll definitely be back!

    ALOHA Avenue Iced Coffee (SEASONAL)

I got the Aloha Avenue Iced Coffee, which seems to be a seasonal coffee advertised next to the cash register. This is seriously the BEST coffee I had on my most recent trip to New York. This drink is pretty pricey, at about $6.75 for a large, but was worth every penny. This drink was filled with a creamy coconut flavor and, while it doesn't have as strong of a coffee flavor, is perfect for people who prefer coffee on the sweeter side.

My hunt for the best bagels in Sunnyside in the post-Dave's era (tho even that wasn't the best I've had in NY) continues: So most people are probably not aware, but this place went through a renovation since new ownership. That's why it was closed over the last 6 months. I've never been to the old iteration of the place, but it looks pretty nice. They have, or will have, a nice variety of breakfast, coffee, and lunch options. The new owner/manager is very nice and forthcoming in hospitality. It's pretty nice to see. I went to order my customary Saturday Egg and Cheese on an everything bagel. The cheese options are currently limited to three different kinds. Maybe one day they'll get cheddar cheese as an option. They had a hot pepper cheese, which isn't really pepper jack, but it's somewhere on a lighter scale of it. It wasn't bad overall. The bagel itself was okay, but you could easily tell that they were store bought. It's a clear distinction. I don't know why true bagel shops are afraid to open up in the area, but they really need to have a true legit bagel place. If this wants to be a place where they make bagels, that would be sick. At around $4.50, it's still a bit pricy, but something I can live it for now. The petition for a real bagel place in Sunnyside continues....

Ave coffee heard pretty good reviews but nothing good or bad about this place. Came here for first time it wasn't bad experience but it was a little SAD. Heard great reviews about their bubble tea so definitely got that and also got americano. I tried caffebenne bubble tea it was extremely sweet that one sip I ended up throwing out but the AVE COFFEE thai tea bubble tea IS GOOD! What makes me SAD? Well I ordered thai bubble tea with brown sugar jelly! I hate BOBA PEARL. I didn't get brown sugar jelly which I wanted and got boba pearl instead. Pretty sad.. I have to pick out bubbles from the DRINK. Now americano when the lady at the register who greeted me and she was the one took the order. She asked me if I wanted medium or large size which I said LARGE. I did not get large. I love americano and I know what it taste like since I always get it from Starbucks BUT THIS AMERICANO I got from AVE COFFEE is NOT AMERICANO. If she didn't mess up my order with size, the taste of americano everything would have been great with 5 stars. I was hesitated getting their stamp card but it was GOOD I declined it.

A great neighborhood cafe for drinks and brunch items. Their open lox sandwhich is one of the best I've ever had. They packkk on the salmon so it's really worth the price. Spacious interior and friendly staff! (Picture shows toast half eaten but it's very generous portion irl)

There are some other restaurants nearby that will have boba on the menu but I consider that separate from a bubble tea shop whose main or only product is the tea. There is some minimal seating (bar stools) but it's largely a to-go place. The ambiance is clean lines, black walls, white tile etc. Patrons leave napkins/straw wrappers, things can be a bit sticky, and it doesn't seem like this is attended to all that quickly. And it's not like it's busy - every time I go in there it's empty of people. There are 2 self service kiosks to order at and thus you're not really greeted or acknowledged when you enter, which is mostly in line with the nyc norm. The tea itself I think is just okay. It is a bit pricey; everything will run you close to $8 before any substitutions or add-ins. They have some fun flavors like the raspberry hojicha. I do think that the standard bubble milk tea that they offer highlights that the tea itself isn't great quality - it's either oversteeped or just not great quality tea being used. Still, it's better than not having boba in the area.

The staff was very rude and basically said "what do you want?". Asked her a question about what something on the menu was and instead of answering it, she just said "don't matter. No more". Master Panda, thanks for participating in the Yelp Lunar New year Boba Crawl and being the first…read moreand last stop. The jasmine milk tea I sampled in the store first was a bit high in the milk to tea ratio, though I appreciated the chance to try this. The oolong tea flavor (can't recall if it was a citrus or passionfruit flavor) at the end was good--refreshing and light. The bubbles were a little on the sweeter side, with decent chewiness. I purchased a plum Americano first time and it was an innovative take on Asian flavors mixed with coffee. The fusion of traditional tart plum "soup" with coffee worked in an herbally way, kinda like a kombucha coffee. Based on this I think some of the other coffee items with citrus may be good to try here. The following comments are in the spirit of constructive feedback so I hope this will help you guys! I read online that the focus of the store is to provide fresh milk with their teas, specifically regular dairy milk. Though I think this is a stronger selling point probably in Asia, the interesting fact is that a fair number of people are lactose intolerant, (or will become so later in life). And with the trend away from cow's milk to more plant-based milks, I think it's a miss not to offer milk substitutes. The second point to work on is consistency in the menu, I'm not sure why the menu placed by the ordering counter contains a few different items than the menu on the screen on the wall, which is also slightly different from the menu shown in the digital kiosks (I didn't order from the kiosk but took a look at it). Maybe it's because this store is still tweaking the menu, though in this case it would be helpful to explain to customers. Yesterday I came by to redeem a coupon for a free drink, it was a generous offer and thanks for giving me another opportunity to try a drink! Choosing the Jasmine coconut tea with water chestnut bubbles, the flavor combo sounded interesting though didn't mesh that successfully in reality. The water chestnut bubbles provided a pop and little crunch which was unlike anything I've had before, with a light, almost imperceptible sweetness. Overall I felt the staff was kind--thanks for the rose with the drink and the panda takeaway bag during the initial boba crawl!

Ordering is digital. You place your order and pay at a self serve kiosk. The serving team behind the counter was working diligently to prepare all the drinks. I ordered the Coconut Mango Boom with sago. It was creamy, refreshing, and packed with sweet mango flavor. The tiny sago pearls add a nice chewy texture to the drink. The menu also offers a wide variety of drinks, including matcha, fruit teas such as grapefruit, guava, and even kale, as well as traditional Chinese teas like jasmine and longjing (aka dragon well). I would like to come back by and try some of those if I'm in the area.

We walked into a cozy space with a comfortable feel that makes it easy to settle in for a bit, and the atmosphere strikes a nice balance between modern and relaxed. The drinks themselves are the main draw and largely deliver. We ordered the Coconut Mango Boom, the standout on the menu, and it came loaded with a generous chunk of actual mango that made the whole thing feel more substantial than your average fruit tea. The Triple Matcha is another strong option for anyone looking for a matcha drink. Toppings were consistently chewy and the flavor balance across most of the lineup leans on the lighter, less sweet side, which works well for us. Where things get complicated is the wait. This location runs long on order times fairly regularly, and during busier stretches or when delivery orders are stacking up, a single drink can take thirty to forty minutes. The staff are generally efficient and straightforward, which suits the format, but the kitchen and barista workflow seems to struggle with volume in a way that other HeyTea locations do not. If you are already a HeyTea regular, the Long Island City location is a convenient option for the area, and the menu quality holds up to what the brand does elsewhere. Just plan accordingly on timing and you will leave happy. We would come back for the Coconut Mango Boom, but we would order ahead and build in a buffer before we need to be anywhere else.
