I walked in there with no idea what I was looking for, let alone what would look good on me. I was all over the board, and probably (and understandably) any salesperson's biggest nightmare. The dress was for my daughter's wedding and they knew how important it was that I felt pretty. Huh. Where do I even begin?? I've never been treated so rudely during a shopping trip experience before in my life. After glancing at some online photos of the dresses in the shop, I decided to pop in with a friend and my daughter looking for a winter formal dress. When we walked in, we realized that the styles were for a more mature crowd but decided to thumb though the racks anyway. A salesperson (later, finding out she was the OWNER) came over and asked what we were looking for. I use a handicap scooter and with the netting the dress would cascade out and flow over my scooter. I kept thinking about the dress for weeks. I did not have the energy to go to a bunch of stores so back I went and bought the dress. Sandy and her staff could not be nicer. Taking measurements was no easy task for them. I casually mentioned a problem I anticipated with buying shoes. She said that she will order extra fabric and glue it to any flat shoe I find, and they were absolutely beautiful. During the wedding I received so many complements about the dress. Younger girls were telling me they loved my shoes. hate this boutique! I went here to buy clothes for my daughter and son but they never assisted me! Some staffs don't even greet me when I entered. They just look at me and then nothing next. I was strolling inside, and I have many question to ask but no staffs came to me to help. I am so mad at that time. Some staffs are very rude and doesn't know how to give good service. We had an almost identical experience as Chris B did 9 months ago. One of the ruder customer service experiences. We came in in casual clothing and asked about three dresses. We had to clarify we wanted three dresses several times before we were told there was nothing contemporary (which was fine but the manner in which it was delivered was not pleasant). We were then escorted to the cheapest side of the store and told that the dresses on the other end were the most expensive. They asked about our price range when we looked to the more expensive end. They presented us dresses for a much older woman and when my mother asked for something a little younger, they said that she should want to be covered up. When we spoke about not wanting a high slit, they mockingly told us that we "wanted something contemporary". They also failed to hide their incredulous looks as we described the wedding ceremony and claimed that they knew almost every venue but had never heard of ours, as if that mattered. As we were leaving, they had written us off as someone who wouldn't buy a gown. My mother had to be the one to ask for a name and phone number to call should she need more help. As a business owner, especially on the North Shore, you should not be judging people based on their appearances. Anybody could have money to buy a gown, anybody could be a powerful figure. So just be as kind and as respectful as you would be to someone coming in with designer clothing. read more

I too need to reiterate how negatively I was treated in this store. I went there 50 miles from my home in Flossmoor directed by friends who live on the north shore. My first experience was on a sale day and attention was aloof and limited. I brought my adult daughters with me yesterday looking for a mother of the groom dress. There was no one in the store. The 2 sales people were unhelpful, rude, insulting, condescending and it was, as another yelp reviewer noted, a "pretty woman" experience. I don't know if I caught them on a bad day or not, but after reading some of the reviews here, I had to write about my own experience. I'll admit that I came into the store with little make up and my tennis shoes. The owner must have immediately assumed that I didn't fit the look of her clientele. When I said I was looking for a mother of the groom dress, she made it a point to say "the less expensive ones are down here" (referring to where they were hanging). When I continued looking and stopped to look more closely at a few "further down the line", she was quick to comment that I was getting into a pricier area.......insinuating that I couldn't possibly think about one of those dresses. I really did feel like I was having a "Pretty Woman" moment.....but the bad kind when the saleswomen were rude to Julia Roberts!! I am absolutely appalled at how she was treated and based on other reviews, I am now not surprised. She was rudely told by the owner that "there is nothing in here for you" and was made to feel terrible about herself. She was prepared to spend money and was treated like she had none. All she was trying to do was look at her options and was insulted the entire time about how much money the gowns were. Just disgusting. I drove so far just to went here and find some quality dress to wear for my friend's party and this is all I got. I was so mad to some staff because I was asking for some help yet, no one come. I need to ask so many times before someone came up to me. I was in rush so I'm very dissatisfied with how they handle their customer. My friend just recommend me to come here, that's why I really spent some time and effort just to shop here, so disappointed. The shop is nice and have many good dresses inside to choose that's why I was expecting that the service quality is good too, but I guess I'm wrong. I recently visited Avenue Fashion after a friend recommended them. I was somewhat intimidated over the idea of shopping for a gown for my sons wedding. On my first visit, a lovely woman who works at the store, gave me an introduction to how the store was organized. She asked me a few questions about what I was looking for and then asked my price range. She showed me how the dresses were organized by price point, which was very helpful. I tried on several dresses, one prettier than the next, but wasn't ready to decide. She wrote down the dresses that were my favorites. On the second visit, I worked with another woman, who was equally helpful, and Sandy the owner. I tried on the dresses that made my favorite list again. Then she asked if I would consider trying two more dresses that were styles that I had initially eliminated... a one shoulder design. The dress I chose was one of the two she suggested. It is just what I was hoping for and I am so happy she suggested it. Sandy and two of the women working there were careful to consider which size dress to order as I needed extra length. (I am 5' 10" without shoes.) My dress just came in recently, and it is in the capable hands of their alterations professional. When she was pinning the dress, I think she sensed my concern because it is large on me. I asked, "Will it be okay?" She looked up from her work and said, "No, it will not be okay, it will be PERFECT." What a perfect response to calm my fears. I look forward to trying the dress on after alterations. A big thank you to Sandy and all the lovely women who have taken such good care of me during this process. They made it fun and easy and relaxing. Sandy and Inge worked to help me find just the right gown. Expert knowledge and advice made this the easiest gown selection I've ever experienced. My daughter and I had visited bridal and department stores in downtown Chicago. I also looked at some stores in the North Shore area. We had a limited time and she really had not found "the dress." She wanted a dress that was unique to her. After an exhaustive search, I suggested we look at Avenue Fashions in Deerfield. I had recommendations from friends that if you needed something special, this was the place. The store is in a mall and not too large but it is stocked with inventory. My daughter told the salesperson what she wanted and she and Sandy pulled out a few dresses that were unique and beautiful. My daughter tried them on and immediately chose two. Since she lives out of town, this process had to be accomplished long distance. No problem. Sandy measured her, brought in color swatches, and ordered the dress that could be made in the color she wanted. The dress came in on time, my daughter traveled in for a fitting, some alterations were modified and she returned to a final fitting. Two fittings total, say "yes" to the dress was smooth and painless. I felt Sandy and her staff were amenable to reasonable requests and the shop fills a niche for special occasions. read more

I went into this store a few weeks ago, explained I needed a dress for my son's Bar Mitzvah, told the sales lady I did not want black and she acted as though that was the most appalling thing she had ever heard. She completely disregarded me after that and you could hear the owner in the back mocking me because I wanted a cream dress and not a black dress. Today my girlfriend went into the store to try to exchange a dress she bought from them. The alterations on the dress were horrible and she wasn't satisfied. The owner was completely belligerent, rude, called my friend selfish and told the sales lady to give her the dress and get her out of the store.
