To start, this restaurant has very good food. After a recent visit for dinner though we experienced horrendous service. The restaurant was full but there was only 1 waitress for the entire restaurant which is not ideal. It took over an hour to receive our main entrees and by that time we had to take the whole meal to go as we were out of time. If you come to this restaurant ever and see a full dining room, expect at least an hour and a half until you get your meal. Being from Brooklyn you know good pizza ( yes the Bronx too). Very few places that I've been to here in Westchester compare to places of my youth. I am a purest so to speak. Pizza should be crust, sauce and cheese ( my opinion). A good thin crust with "crunch" and chew is important as is the sauce. Villa Rustica has a good balance of sauce to cheese to crust. Yes they do some "funky" pies which I am sure are very good. Some of the other dishes that I've had again standard basics like lasagna and eggplant parmasean were really good as well. Great little "Pizza and..." place. I love the Cauliflower Napoli Pizza (actually have cravings for it!). Very friendly service and atmosphere. Clean and comfortable. We did take out last night for the first time. How disappointing. The baked ziti looked liked warmed up leftovers. There was about a tablespoon of ricotta cheese in the whole dish and minimal mozzarella on top. We asked for some bread and the server said this doesn't come with bread and then threw a bag of two tiny slices of dried bread into the bag. Definitely not a repeat if for the attitude alone. My better half and I ate at Villa rustica again recently. Our experience was as expected as usual the food was outstanding. The service was very good and the overall experience satisfying. The dish I had was fillet off, so DiMartino. If my memory serves me correct. The soul was egg, battered, as in franchise including the lemon sauce and it was covered with olives, tomatoes, capers, and peppers. It was absolutely delicious. I certainly would recommend the dish for those who liked it here too Lenten obligations. My better half had the stuff so with crab meat, shrimp, etc., she always tells me how wonderful it is and there is always enough for her to makeit last more evening. The only thing I would improve at this wonderful establishment is the lighting. It's very bright and the furniture could probably use an upgrade. This place has amazing food! I ordered the chicken scarp (hold the sausage) with a side salad. It was PERFECT. The potatoes were soft and a nice touch to the spicy dish. It was the best chicken scarp I've ever had in my life! I had a slice of my brother's cheese pizza too. It held its shape when I held it up and blotted the grease off (I'm one of those). I don't know how the food is, and I don't care to find out. I ordered on Uber eats and put my phone down. I returned to 2 missed calls and a 3rd coming in just then. Some very rude man from Villa Rustica was upset because I didn't give him an exact address, which had never before been an issue on Uber eats. Instead of explaining this issue he rudely demanded an address. A few phone calls later I ended up cancelling the order because I became frustrated, however; I still payed for the food. I received ANOTHER call and explained that I had cancelled and paid. The man sarcastically responded "wow, thank you." I hung up. This restaurant should not be on Uber eats. Instead of letting Uber deliver, Villa Rustica uses their own drivers, who are absolutely directionless. They either just want to make an extra buck and don't care about the extra steps they put the Uber eats customer through, or they are clueless as to what they signed up for. I've patronized this business throughout the pandemic and had the most horrific restaurant experience I've ever had anywhere over the weekend. A server and subsequently, part owner (I assume) were both very combative and condescending. I usually place my order in person, however this time called ahead. 1st issue-The female server who answered the phone (usually very nice), told me that, after going back and forth, my pizza would not be gluten free, as the crust is not. I explained t her that I was pretty sure it is, unless they've changed product, since my last visit...I entered the restaurant to pick up my order and spotted the larger man, who I reference above and asked him the same question. He told me it is, in fact gluten free and I told him that the woman told me other wise. Upon passing by her, she told me that she did not tell me the pizza is gf and told me that I misunderstood what she was saying. No, I did not misunderstand. Maybe she miscommunicated what she was trying to say. Perhaps, she was trying to make a disclaimer that since they are not a gfree kitchen, etc.? Don't know, for that's not what she said. Issue 2- After being handed my pizza and asked if I would like anything else, I stated that I would like a cup of water, with lemon, to go. My request was granted. I was then given my total, which seemed exorbitant. I asked if they had a price increase and he told me that due to the plastic shortage and such, they had a price increase and have to pass that along to the customer. That part is totally understandable, except the cup he provided was made of paper. Solely the lid was plastic. To charge $1 plus for something I'm used to getting in that establishment for free, seemed reaching, but I said okay, because I wanted water. Because the total cost still didn't add up in my mind and I noticed this was the one time I didn't receive an itemized receipt, I asked for it. Instead of providing it to me, he opted to brashly write the same thing that was on the total cost receipt on my pizza box, piercing several holes in it, in the process of doing so, while telling me that I only got two things. YES, that's correct. That's why I did not understand why the bill was so high and is also what would have made it easy for him to two take the two seconds to print the requested info. I asked him why he was being so nasty. His comment was that he was busy, not nasty. I guess he is too busy to accept my money for his overpriced pizza in the future, as that was the last time I will ever step foot inside that establishment. Sidebar- I asked if utensils were included and he said "for pizza?!" as he reached for some. Yes, because I am eating on the go and more times than not, they do not completely cut through the slices, leaving me to do it. The other gentleman (possible part owner also) seemed mild-mannered and professional, so it is unfortunate that one bad apple (in this case, two) spoils it for the whole bunch. Lesson Villa Rustica should learn-it's The Customer who keeps your restaurant doors open. Appreciate them all. read more
