I came here with a friend on a keto diet for happy hour. There was a surprising number of low carb options or items that could be modified to be low carb (subbing out fries ect). We got the mussels, escargot, burger, fries, croquettes and a croque Monsieur. Everything was excellent and the person working the bar area was so nice and attentive. The croque, escargot and fries were my favorite. The croquettes lacked cheese so it was just a lot of potato. Personally I wouldn't get them again, but that's my personal preference. I was traveling for work and shared a meal with my coworker at a'vert brasserie on a Tuesday night. It was actually too salty even though my coworker requested less salt on everything. I enjoyed dipping the fresh bread into the oil. Lastly came the entrees. I was a bit disappointed in both of them. The hanger steak was cooked medium rare like I wanted but the texture was not great. I was hoping for a more tender cut and this was a bit tough and lean. The frites were cooked well and very crispy. The duck confit was very tender but I didn't think it was amazing. Overall I don't think I will be returning to this restaurant with so many other great options around. An outstanding French dining experience. I visited a'VERT Brasserie for Saturday lunch with a group of four and was seated right away, which was a pleasant surprise since they seemed booked. The escargot and steak tartare were both excellent, but the foie gras was the clear standout -- rich, smooth, and well prepared. One of the most unique aspects of the meal was a cocktail made with pork fat -- unexpected but incredibly well-executed. It added a savory depth that complemented the meal beautifully. I have a hard time thinking of many noteworthy French restaurants other than A'vert in the greater Hartford area. I've eaten at A'vert before, but the last time was a couple years ago with a Food Blogger friend who was invited and our meal was comped. My wife and I had time because our son was at a birthday party and we decided to visit for brunch. We arrived shortly after opening and the restaurant was about half full. A'vert's Croque Monsieur was very good. The bread seemed like good sourdough slices coated in a Mornay. The thin slices of smoked ham were good quality. The Swiss was good. The Dijon provided some mild mustard flavor. The Brunch Potatoes were well seasoned and had good red color. I imagine they were pan-fried, but I'm not sure. The eggs had fantastic texture. They needed a bit more seasoning, especially salt, though. My wife's Salmon Toast looked beautiful. I know she was happy with it. This was a 4.5 Star experience. I'll round up to 5 Stars. read more

The scallops were beautifully plated and had the perfect sear. The salad was a nice touch with it. My husband got the trout and although he really liked it and loved the orzo, he wasn't a fan of the fish not being deboned and felt it threw him off a little bit. I went here on a Saturday afternoon with a friend after shopping in the area. Since we did not have reservations we sat at a high top table in the bar. The area was a bit crowded. We were greeted quickly and ordered sparkling water. A large bottle of San Pelligrino was brought out and the first glass was poured for us. I ordered the only vegetarian thing on the menu- an acorn squash, lentil, mushroom, apple salad with a poached egg on top. It was lovely and delicious. My friend ordered the croque monsieur- a ham and cheese sandwich on two large slices of some sort of white bread. My friend commented that it was too much bread and that it tasted just ok. The waitress acknowledged my cancellation, but surprisingly, I was still charged on my credit card for the reservation date. The general manager, Mark, took my call and said he would look into the matter, but he never followed up or took action. Eventually, on June 1st, I had to dispute the charge to get my money back. Maybe they didn't have enough staff working on a Sunday night at 7:45. Maybe the server who was supposed to take care of us was at the end of her shift and just ignored us and Sean had to substitute. I don't know. Cocktails are good here. They do not have the Clover Club on the menu even though it is a popular picture on the Yelp page. We ordered the April In Paris - Champagne, Cointreau, Cognac, Lemon, Sugar $11 - and the La Fleur - Vanilla Vodka, Passionfruit, St. Germain, Egg White, Rose. I really liked the LF but my Dad said the AIP was too sour for him. I don't think he anticipated the amount of lemon juice in the drink. Food was all right, typical French cuisine. Appetizers were more generous than I anticipated, particularly the croquettes. Short rib app was cooked nicely, though there wasn't any papaya actually on it; it might have been a part of the sauce. There was an ample amount of pate, though the baguette was half burnt. Our duck, bourginon, and chicken entrees were all fairly good. We did not have room for dessert. Ambiance is nice. You feel like you're in a French brasserie. There are leather banquettes. Some may find it ersatz, but I liked it. It's brightly lit, which I like. They have outdoor seating available too.
