There is a lot of different parking in the area but can be a pain when busy. I got the loaded tots for an appetizer which were great. They were flavorful and a bit spicy. I have eaten twice at Max burger in West Hartford, Ct in the last month and both times I have come away thinking the service is terrible. To begin with, the hostesses were basically clueless from the beginning and when we were finally seated, the waitress was all business and not particularly interested. By the time the food arrived, the person (whatever you call this person) basically threw the plates on the table and left (even when we tried to explain which plate went with which person). We had to get our own silverware by robbing another table and then we were abandoned until we demanded a check. Great burger spot in west Hartford that serves various styles of burgers or custom made to order. I got the All American burger on a pretzel roll with truffle fries and it was delicious. Burger was perfectly cooked to order, fries were well seasoned, and all of the other food on the menu looked good as well. We decided to drop by Max Burger on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated right away and well attended to. Our table was clean and in a quieter part in the back of the room. Used to be one of my go to restaurants. The amount of times this place has changed their menu is insane. I get changing it up seasonally but they never bring any items back. One of my all time favorite items was their short rib taco last year and it is nowhere to be found again. So sad. I at least thought they'd bring it back for summer! Most recently we came because we know their hand cut fries are amazing. Shockingly enough our entrees came out with clearly frozen fries. The menu still says hand cut fries. Staff told us yes they definitely are not hand cut anymore. Really unsure why this decision was made. In addition, I asked for the chicken swarma wrap on a Friday night at 5:30pm and was told they had zero wraps left so I had to get a completely different entree. Been here many times over the last decade or so. Pretty much a sure thing for good food. So, we went there last night. Burgers were good but the service was terrible after our food arrived. Waitress disappeared. Twenty minutes or so later we asked another server to find her. She came to the table, finally, and blamed the management for making her do other things at the bar. She then left and came back with some water (our glasses were empty). Then, she diappeared again. Much later, she came back and asked if we wanted the check. Not, would you like dessert. So, we told her we wanted dessert at which time she brought dessert menus. Then, gone again after taking our dessert order. After way too long, and no dessert, we asked for the manager who then waited on our table for dessert. She also brought the bill and offered to comp our desserts. Too pissed to be gracious so we turned her down. She comped one dessert, anyhow. We like Max Burger alot and are not put off by one terrible waitress. I've only dined outside on their spacious patio because the weather was great. They had the heater blasting which I requested to to be turned down because it was burning my head, other patrons agreed. I started off with a Saturday fun day glass of their Green Mind Avocado Margarita, yes, you read that right; avocado mixed into a margarita, very interesting but it worked. The drink was on the smaller side for $13 and change but it was good and I could taste the slight creaminess of the avocado. They had a good sized cocktail menu and a variety of craft beers. On this most recent visit, I had the Korean BBQ burger. OMG, juicy and flavorful; it had gochujang mayo, kimchi, onion straws, and Korean BBQ sauce. The fries were crunchy and seasoned well. MAX Burger is AWESOME. This is a favorite for our family. My 8-year old is always asking to go back because their chicken tenders are homemade, and they always bring out plenty of edamame as a side, her personal favorite. As for me, standouts on the menu are their eggplant fries with a garlicky aioli, their blackened chicken tacos which are flavorful and bright, and my personal favorite, their ahi tuna burger. It has a great, tart, apple slaw and an asian fusion flair to it. A must-have side for it is their sweet potato fries, which are delightful. Their cocktails are always inventive and refreshing (and strong), and its one of the only places where you can use an app to pay with apple pay, a plus for someone who is constantly misplacing their debit card. Some think of it as corporate or chain or both, but the thing is, the environment is comfortable, the service is good, and the food is generally VERY well executed. Been here at least a half dozen times over the years and have been happy every time. They don't just serve one kind of burger with different toppings; they mix up the sizes, styles, and thicknesses. Translation: it's not just a copycat burger place with the same tired smash burger (which I like, but not EVERY time) and tiresome Martin's rolls (ditto). Bistro Burger: Thicker hoity-toity burger, ordered medium rare. Came out cooked to temperature, good feel, good taste. The Brie-- a block that's thicker than your iPhone--got a slight melt and contributed slight flavor, but seemed to crash the party texturewise. Bacon onion jam added to the mix nicely without standing out noticeably. Ciabatta bun, though doable, was on the firm side, compounding the discrepancy between narrower patty and wider bun. Despite these minor flaws and preference misalignments, this was still a very good burger. Flavorful and cooked perfectly, the beef was outstanding. Fatty Melt: You might think they DID pull a copycat here, because others have done a fatty melt--a burger patty between two grilled cheese sandwiches as the bun--but here every component was different. The burger was tender, flavorful, juicy even at the requested medium, and of high quality beef, not your cheap supply store issue hiding behind the gimmicky. And the grilled cheese sandwiches above and below were thin and light of bread, with crusts trimmed to help out that beef-to-bread ratio this time. Also high caliber cheese: thicker than the bread, melty, buttery, and adult. Even with every aspect clicking, the superb whole was greater than the sum of its parts. We were tempted to split another one for "dessert." Fries: Hand-cut, crisp, soft inside. Some smaller pieces, but not a problem. Onion Rings: Thin-cut rings of large diameter with thick coating of crunchy batter. Not the seafood shack type I love, but not the beer batter type I don't love. Decent. Burgers on previous visits have been even better. Go big, go small, go try something new. But go. For just a little more than the cost of Five Guys, you can have an adult experience and beef that's sourced and cooked with pride. read more

We stopped by Max's Burger in West Hartford for lunch this weekend and had a great experience. Very friendly and attentive staff. We lucked out and didn't have to wait and got a booth. The place was hopping on Saturday around 1pm. The menu had a lot of really good-sounding comfort food items, burgers, tacos, mac and cheese, etc. I had the burnt ends for an appetizer and they were incredible! For my entree I opted for the fried chicken taco's with rice, and I was very pleased. Well cooked and well seasoned chicken with all the fixings on two soft corn taco tortilla. They had a pretty good selection of beers on draft too. Parking was a little tough, the lot is pretty small. Luckily there was some street parking. They even had a few vegetarian friendly options as well, like an Impossible burger. We had a great time, good food, fast and friendly service. I honestly couldn't ask for anything better. read more

Today's experience was the most disappointing because they changed their fries from being hand-cut to frozen. Their hand-cut fries was one of the main reason we still went to Max Burger, but now that those are gone I'm not sure how often we will be returning. Oddly, the menu still says "hand-cut fries," so I thought maybe they just ran out today but our waitress and confirmed these are their new fries. The feel in this place is a relaxed rustic energy. I love the decor, lighting, spacing of tables, and the overall feel. It's exactly what I would expect for a good burger bar. The Onion rings were off the hook! The pseudo Russian dressing sauce on the side was very tasty. We both had a Texican burger, mine had no cheese. The burger was big, tough to eat for a small mouth. First time here, cute place. Restaurant is in the center of charming West Hartford with either on street (metered) or a lot on the side of the building. Walked in for happy hour/really late lunch. We sat immediately at a high top in the bar, which I regret because the seats are pretty close and the girls at the table behind us, one girl her speaking voice was yelling every word. Bartender acknowledged us immediately and came right over with water and asked for beverages, of course I ordered a Bloody Mary! There was a happy hour menu with various yummy items to choose from and at great prices. We went for the spinach artichoke dip appetizer. The dip was creamy and piping hot, not too many chunks of artichoke but very tasty and With a plentiful pile of chips. We unfortunately got all of our food served at the same time. The bartender was very apologetic. I ordered the Philly short rib appetizer with a side of tater tots. The tots were salted nicely and very crispy. It also came with a side of a garlic aioli (I believe) that was good! The sandwich was shredded short rib with an aioli sauce and arugula with Gruyère cheese. It was perfect size, tender and not too messy! Hubs ordered the American burger. Came out as cooked to no order, medium (pink in the middle). He wasn't too thrilled with the char in the burger, a heavy sear. Looked like all the burgers were made that way. Although he still seemed to be happy with it he ate the whole thing (little messy but what giant burger isn't!). Both dishes were served with kettle chips as well. Wanted something laid back but in West Hartford so max burger it was. I started with the wings and spinach dip. The buffalo was pretty good. We got a mustard based sauce that I was not a fan of flavor wise but I did enjoy the texture of the wing. Crispy and juicy. The spinach dip I would never order again. Not for me. Goat cheese based I think. It's mainly cheese barely any spinach. I got a basic burger with bacon. I was not impressed. The burger was so charred on the bottom.... It was burnt. I was very disappointed in Max Burger today! I hadn't return after the first visit after it soon opened many years ago. My wife and I are frequent customers of Max Oyster Bar which is one of my favorite restaurants in this area. This afternoon we tried, for the second time in many years, to have lunch at Max Burger believing they deserved a second chance and they failed us once again. Let me start off with some positives. Parking was free and the burger was made medium rare according to my instructions and the coke my wife ordered as well as my coffee were all good. The chicken sandwich my wife ordered was soggy as were her sweet potatoes fries after she specifically ask for them to be crispy. While my burger was good the slice of raw onion was represented by a few raw onion rings. I am happy I requested the barbecue sauce on the side since it tasted and looked like salad dressing. The fact that the server never came back to refill our drinks or checked to see if there were problems were bad enough. It is very doubtful that we will ever return. read more

I recently met a friend for lunch in WHC and we decided on Max Burger. We ate on the patio, which has a very cool vibe, especially when the Sky is so blue. Service was friendly and efficient. My old fav burger is no longer on the menu. I decided on a Special Burger that I think had Sautéed mushrooms, perfectly melted Gruyère, water cress and a garlicky aioli. I've been to Max Burger before and enjoyed it. last night I went with a friend, i ordered a sandwich the waitress recommended and enjoyed it (forgot the name), and my friend ordered the Mother Clucker crispy chicken sandwich. i'll start off by saying service was quick and staff is friendly. the restaurant is super chill, there's indoor and outdoor seating. i will say, the outdoor seating doesn't have any type of space heating, so we opted for indoor, as it was pretty cold out. as we were eating, my friend noticed her sandiwch felt a bit chewier than it should. since the lighting inside is pretty dim, she turned her phone flashlight on to check out what was going on and realized her sandwich was chewy because it was undercooked. her appetite was immediately ruined and she excused herself to the bathroom. our waitress came around and i explained to her what was going on. she was apologetic and said she would bring it to the back to show the chef. she came back out soon after and asked if my friend wanted another one, i said no, explained that my friend's appetite was ruined and thanked her. she said she'd take the charge off of our receipt, which was really nice. a few monents later, the manager comes by our table and was also super apologetic and asked if we wanted dessert on the house. we kindly declined and asked for our check. all in all, it was disappointing how undercooked the sandwich was, but the staff was SUPER kind and we appreciated it tons. read more

Last week my friend and I went to Max Burger for Happy Hour, I really don't remember having been here before, despite it being a pretty popular spot in my town. They have an outdoor patio, which is a nice option for less humid days. We sat at the bar, there were a few menus floating around, one was their regular full menu, another was their happy hour menu, and then they had their ad for the $2.50 burger, which is only good 3-6, Monday - Friday. So we put in orders for those burgers. I also got a margarita, and my friend got a beer. My margarita was very good, it was lemon based, and a bit sour. Our burgers arrived, and they were no joke. These were full 5 oz burgers, with tomato and lettuce, except no cheese. On the side we got kettle chips instead of fries and sliced pickles. This burger was delicious, it was made medium. It was juicy, seasoned and perfect, it wasn't missing anything. There were people ordering seconds. We also got a root beer float to share. I'm really not a fan of root beer, but this was pretty good. The vanilla ice cream was soft and melty, and they gave us the whole bottle of the root beer. This was a very pleasant experience at Max Burger. Their $2.50 burgers are for sure worth getting, I'm not sure how long they'll run the promo for. read more
