Ive been a big fan of Mecha Noodle Bar for years now and have tried most of them in Connecticut. It was a hot day today and unfortunately the air didnt seem to be working well. It was 80 degrees in the restaurant and it was a little uncomfortable to eat Ramen in a hot restaurant. Anyway, on to the actual food. The mushroom dumplings are always excellent. The edamame had good flavoring and cooked garlic/onion mixed in. The chicken Ramen could've used a bit more seasoning. Added some of the table sauces and that worked perfectly. The vibes are always right with the 90s Hop Hop decor and music playing. There was only 1 chef at some point during our visit so the service was a little slower than usual. read more

As a wasian Vietnamese who is from SoCal, this was not good pho. It tasted watered down and it might've actually been because real pho broth is made with bones and will gelatinize when refrigerated (bone broth). Their broth was still liquid. We got pho tai and pho ga. Barely any meat which is a disgrace. One good thing, their noodles were chewy and I haven't had much experience with chewy rice noodles. The appetizer edamame was good. For my meal, I had the ramen dish called Shoyu Paitan which has chicken, black garlic, nori, scallion, tamago, menma. I added the corn & chili oil. This was so good. I came here for lunch with a few friends and baby. They were more than accommodating to us . The waitress was so friendly and understanding. I got a Spicy Tuna hand roll (I haven't been here in a while, but this seemed new) and the Tonkotsu 3.0. The hand roll was fun! I would try the salmon one. The tonkotsu was flavorful, and they were able to accommodate my request of the corn on the side. It was sizable, and there was a good amount of noodles that I was able to make a second meal out of this as leftovers. We told the hostess that we would like a table for four. He sat us down and our waiter came to see if we wanted drinks prior to our friends arriving. We decided to go ahead and get some drinks. He was patient with us while we waited. The decor of the place was different. It had a welcoming vibe. But with all the wood above us for decorations in the place we wondered how they dusted those or if they even been dusted before. Definitely different from other places. Our friends finally came and we ordered some apps. We had the KFC bao buns and the pork belly bao. The KFC bao was different. Thought it would be a bit more spicy with the gochujang. It wasn't spicy at all but also not bad. We did have some chilly oil dumplings. Those had a good spice to it. We also had the Saigon eggrolls. Those were delicious. I can't remember the type of pho we had. But the one I ordered had the bone marrow in it. It was definitely good. We did take the mine marrow bone back home for our friends dog. Highlights are the herbed edamame so good very addicting. Pork Belly Bao definitely should order more than one. And the Red Oil Dumplings. They have some really good appetizers. We tried the Shoyou Paitan (Chicken Ramen) with the suggested add-ins of chili oil and corn. It was good the noodles had great texture but it wasn't a Ramen I would tell my friends to rush and try. They do have a kids menu which is great. A lot of places with these types of dishes usually don't have a kids menu. Completely Unacceptable Experience I had one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had at this restaurant. When I was ordering, the waiter actually paused and asked if I "needed to make sure the price was in my range." When I asked to add a steak onto my meal. I was shocked and honestly embarrassed. There was absolutely no reason for that comment except for the fact that I'm Black, and it felt blatantly discriminatory. I came in expecting to enjoy a meal. Food is excellent! The kale salad was unexpectedly good and healthy at the same time. Pork belly bun is insanely good. Pho vein with greens is a large portion, and tasted very good. Also tried ramen, it is saltier and very different style from pho, both are delicious in their own ways. Thai milk tea looked very good but later didn't order. Service is very good, and the waiter comes up quickly with water and nicely recommended us many options. Good environment and music. Definitely recommend and will return if have a chance. read more

Heard a lot of great things and finally got to try Mecha! Was not disappointed THE FOOD -shared two apps for the table, they came out pretty quickly. -edamame: was most unique edamame I've ever had! It was charred and had more seasoning than just sea salt. It was very tasty, I would order again. It was a nice portion too. There were 3 of us and each had plenty. -mushroom dumplings : nice crispy outside , big dumplings too. Tasty sauce, good filling! The filling was interesting and reminded me of ground meat texture. -entrees: we each got a different ramen. I was a little disappointed how quickly the ramen came out as we didn't have much time to eat our apps so everything was in front of us at once. -Ramen: I got the spicy miso with some exclusions and substitutions. They got everything correct! It had a little kick but wasn't overly spicy THE DRINKS -everything sounded really unique and tasty so it was hard to pick -I got the Iron Fist which was a really neutral cocktail in terms of sweet / savory. I was afraid I wouldn't like it because I can't remember if I like vermouth (and I know it's either love or hate for most folks!) but I thoroughly enjoyed it. This place is soo amazing! As soon as you walk in you realize just how cool this place is. It's super vibrant and lively and makes you want to try everything! I started with the shrimp and chicken bun and ended with the red oil dumplings. I came in for pho but there was just so much that looked so good. Been going to this mecha basically every 2-1 weeks for about a year and a half. Never really had a bad or awful experience this time was the usual experience as any other week. But what made this trip to mecha better was the waiter with the Boston hat he truly was the best that made this even better than ever, even gave us free wings. But as someone who has gone here for so many times the only issue/complaint I can give it is that there seems to be a lag in communication between waiter and kitchen or whoever makes the drinks. This time we waited a little bit for drinks, sometimes it's that we don't get a waiter to come to us until like maybe 5-10 minutes in. "For years I tried to make A grades To satisfy my Mom and Pop In music I'm boss, but in Math, I was lost I guess my head was full of nothing but rock" (Chuck Berry) In case you're wondering, the English translation of the Vietnamese word "Mecha" is "Mom and Pop". Well, Mom and Pop sure hired the right interior designer, because Mecha is one of the most visually striking restaurants I've seen in a very long time. The walls and ceiling are decorated with hundreds of strips of wood -some in a horizontal plane, some in a vertical plane, some hanging from the ceiling like wind chimes. They are all stained in different wood tones and really look fantastic together. We went there for my birthday dinner and were there early enough to order a "mix and match" variety from their Happy Hour menu and regular menu. I started off with a $5 Happy Hour cocktail - a Coconut Clementine-Blueberry Highball. Man oh man was it excellent! Our two selections from the Happy Hour menu were an order of Pork Belly Bao ($8) - 2 pieces served with hoisin, pickled daikon, carrots and Japanese egg mayo, and an order of Korean Fried Chicken Bao ($5) - 2 served with gochujang red chili paste, pickled daikon, carrots, and that Japanese mayo. We don't order baos that often, probably because they're usually doughy and relatively forgettable to eat with no taste. Not these! They were soft as a pillow and delicious. I enjoyed both varieties, but probably liked the chicken a teense more than the pork belly. We supplemented the Happy Hour food with two choices from the regular menu - an order of Saigon Egg Rolls ($8) and Red Oil Dumplings ($12). The Egg Rolls were five thin rolls filled with ground pork, lettuce wraps, mint leaves, and nuoc mam dipping sauce. Our server Rachel instructed us to wrap the egg rolls inside a lettuce leaf and mint sprig, then dip the whole shebang in the sauce for the full Saigon Egg Roll Experience. We followed her instructions and they sure delivered in the taste department. I love spice, so my eyes were immediately drawn to the Red Oil Dumplings with pork, shrimp, sichuan vinegar, cilantro, and adorned with onion strings and thin disks of scallions. Those three huge dumplings were one of the very best dishes I've had all year. FANTASTIC. Our lunch bill was $37 before tax and tip. Service started off very strong but we missed the "how is everything?" and water refill check-backs. read more

We got quite a spread and tried a little of everything off the munchies list and omg the egg rolls were definitely my favorite. We ordered food from here and it was well packaged, so no spills or anything. The broth was medium warm not really hot but still good. We ordered the spicy kfc bao sliders, spicy beef ramen and chicken ramen. The bai sliders were very tasty it had a sweet and sour taste to it. The beef, veg and noodles were packaged separately from the broth since I ordered the food. The beef was cold and everything was placed in the bucket so I was a bit skeptical about the taste but once I poured the broth in, it all came together. The ramen is top notch and very good. The broth was also well balanced with flavors and not too spicy but spicy enough. I give this place a 5 out of 5 for the taste. The food felt comforting as well as yummy at the same time. Service, 4 star. Ambiance, 3 star. Drink, 4 star. Food, 1 star. The service was good. Anthony was our waiter and he was fairly attentive, though he did miss a couple of things along the way. He was close to 5 star service levels so definitely one of the best things about this place. The Drinks were good. We had a mango lasi, limeade, an adult mixed drink and a beer. All were good though the options for wine and beer were fairly limited. There is a nice Sake list for those who enjoy. Ambiance would be 5 star if not for the most ridiculously bad decision on seats. On low tables, they have metal stools with no back. Most Americans are not skinny minny types and for any that have a few extra pounds, or don't hit the gym for but exercises 4-5 hours a week, the stool seats are horrible. Whatever they paid for these, they overpaid by double. Frankly, it is surprising that the restaurant has not replaced these as of yet for how long it's been opened. Then we get to the food. The edamame was good. The Bao should be ignored. We got both the pork belly and KFC ones. The KFC was ok. The pork was mostly fat and overcooked. The bun itself was ok. We also got spring rolls and those were ok, but nothing worth going out of your way to order. That closes the positive of the food review and now we get to the horrible. Kimchi fried rice. Meh. Not anything special, nothing that really stands out and not worth the price charged IMO. However it is infinitely more worth the price than the spicy beef ramen. This is one of the worst beef ramen I've ever had. From beef spare ribs that were essentially just fat and gristle, to beef brisket that had no salt or flavor (for those that have read other reviews of mine, they will note that I'm a low salt guy in general and even with that this was under seasoned for me), the protein didn't help the biggest issue - one note broth that had spice but nothing else. The noodles were ok and I was surprised they added spinach as opposed to a more Asian green (bok choy?). All in all, this is a hard pass and not something I'm likely going to try again unless someone else is paying, and even then only if other options are out. Frankly, my rec to anyone looking at this place is to take the spin to Wethersfield and hit Kaulibon which is miles better than Mecha. read more

I am a local, work right across the street, and have been a loyal customer for a long time. Today's experience at Mẹcha was absolutely unacceptable. I arrived at my scheduled pickup time, yet after waiting 10 minutes my food was still not handed to me -- at 5 PM, which is nowhere near peak dinner rush. From the kitchen window, I could clearly see a takeout bag already sitting there. When I tried to get someone's attention to simply ask how much longer it would be, the manager, Sara, rushed over and spoke to me in an extremely rude, arrogant, and dismissive way. Even worse, her only response was that she "didn't know how much longer" I'd have to wait -- despite the food visibly being ready. I ordered tonkotsu, delicious broth and chewy noodles, came with 2 thinly sliced chashu and half egg, scallions and corn. $15.50. Added extra egg and menma $4, chili oil $1 and extra broth $5!!!! $25.50 for a bowl plus tax amounted to $27.37... holy shit, it is ridiculous for a bowl of ramen.... I get the amount of work making the broth but $5 extra for a little over 8 oz of pure broth is insane! It is good but go to Kaliubon, unfortunately they're closed today, that's why I settled here.... you get better value for your money and it's not over priced with the same quality of broth, if not better and less salty. You get 3 pieces of chashu, not 2, free chili oil, it comes with menma for $15 and $3 for extra broth, way cheaper and better value for your money. read more

Althought this is not my choice of food, I took my daughter on a dad/daughter date and she loved it! I enjoyed the ambience and the anime shows on TV. The food again not my taste, but she loved it. I had noodles which I found them to be too "seeweed like" and they treated us a plate full of edamame beans which I didnt like. Again I guess the place would be great for asian food fans. Their "snacks" on the menu aren't snack sized lol so don't be alarmed! No complaints on that. The red chili dumplings were HUGE, basking in a flavorful oil topped with onion crunch and cilantro. I didn't want it to endddd. I also didn't want to admit I was full because I wanted so badly to try something else. I got the red miso ramen. I admit, I'm not a ramen fanatic but I love miso and I love pork so I really enjoyed the broth and toppings with this. Today was a day to celebrate a small win and I chose Mecha because I felt like eating Chinese food. We have had a very nice culinary experience at all the restaurants I have tried on the Farmington Avenue part of the West Hartford town, so I thought Mecha was a good choice. Dinner was a little late and we hence we ordered a takeout to go home. I like their cheerful bright orange bag. The booking and pick up service were swift. Both the crispy shrimp bao and the KFC Korean fried chicken bao were good to eat. Now if you like Chinese food in the US, you may not agree with the rest of the review, and that's fine. Since we have taste buds for the Indo-Chinese flavor, me and my partner did not like the ramen here, especially the broth. It tasted salty at first and after a few morsels, very fishy and I couldn't swallow it. The noodles, chicken, etc. were cooked fine, no problem. But I had to leave the dish halfway because it made me feel nauseous. I had a similar experience at PF Changs at an airport once, the chicken soup I needed wasn't for the soul or my tastebuds, made me feel more sick than before.
