I played on this golf course for the first time. It is an amazing golf course to play on and it is a lot of fun and challenging. My golf crew aka The Slapnuts Golf crew had so much fun playing here. All the staff are welcoming and the club house is a great spot lounge after the 9th hole or if you finish playing full the 18. I highly recommend playing the full 18 as the back 9 is even more challenging and fun to play. They offer two memberships family and single. I have two of my golf buddies who have signed up and said it is worth the money for a membership. You are also allowed to play at all three courses they own Avery Ranch, Falconhead, and Teravista Golf Clubs. I have payed at the other two many times. Avery Ranch is by far my favorite course to play on now. read more

Avery Ranch is definitely not worth the price. They have something called dynamic pricing which means it can change from one day to the next. The pro shop attendant literally could not tell me what the greens fee would be on Thursday (today was Tuesday). He simply said it could be anywhere from $75 to $95. Complete crap. The layout was nice but the greens were slow and a bit furry. $60 ok, but not $85 or higher. Pro shop staff was a bit on the grumpy side, it was almost as if we were bothering them. Next trip we will find somewhere else to play. read more

The course itself was decent, but for the price ($125 at 11:15 on Sunday), it was overrated. Before you tee off the Pacer gives you recommended pace times. By hole 9 we were 40 min behind schedule and finished 1 hour plus over. Our crew played decent. We were with 2 members who said they've never experienced anything like this. We tried talking to the clubhouse afterwards and they acted like this was totally normal and offered nothing to compensate. I play in a league that plays there, and yet I'm not thrilled with the track. But the worst of it is the sand traps. While many are compacted bc of the recent rains, there are a number that literally have no sand whatsoever, and no GUR signs either. Additionally, and totally inexplicably for as long as they've been open, almost all of the traps have far too many stones in them, many quarter-sized. read more

Avery Ranch is decent golf course, especially when Austin area is getting a good amount of rain. In the event, we aren't getting rain they don't really irrigate and the course can get in pretty dire conditions. So overall, ymmv. But when the conditions are good it's a great round of golf. The problem is the price. The price for a round without a discount can be $130+ which is price that should be reserved for a world class golf course. Though Avery Ranch is nice it's not worth $130+ and to be honest on its best day I find it to be only slightly better than the Austin munis and those tees times max out around $50. The other dire situation is the driving range. They find any reason to close it. If it it drizzles they close it and they schedule regular events at the driving range which shut it down. Most driving ranges are a money maker for a golf course. Not at Avery Ranch, apparently. It seems like it's an unwelcome burden on their staff and that they hate tending to it. I also suspect they maybe lose a lot of money on balls particularly because the netting around the range is inadequate and allows balls disappear down a ravine. Overall, I usually found myself annoyed at them either closing the range or running out of balls and their staff equally annoyed at me for being there. Avery Ranch is decent but I would only play at a price less than around $80 for a round and skip using this place as your main practice range. read more

It's incredible how much better Teravista is under the same management and ownership. The personnel, the course conditions, the range. The driving range, for what I can assume costs tens of thousands to renovate, is absolutely terrible. We don't need shot tracer, we need decent hitting conditions. When it's on grass, you're hitting on a minefield. When it's off mats, the ball dispenser is often broken, the the hitting surface is bare and barely "turf", and when you stand on the mat, the ball is a good 1/2 inch above your feel. Pace of play is absolutely terrible and you can tell the ownership could care less about golfers. The carts are awful too. Between the $25 range bucket and the $130+ weekend round, they are making more than enough money to eliminate dozens of tee times to improve pace of play. Only reason the course gets a 2 is because the players club is probably the best deal in Austin golf. read more

Paid $155 for an overrated golf course, and $8.00 more for some crappy range balls. For that price the balls should be new and stacked in a pyramid and FREE. The foresome in front of us was hitting from the "tips" and couldn't hit it out of their shadows.. So pathetic, If your not a single digit, stay off the tips. Sir at the front desk was rude and lacked communication. My son and his buddy decided to try out the this course and they were not informed that cart age was 18. The front desk person decided to tell them that after they already paid for their tee time leaving them with no other option but to walk the entire course. They claimed the course was very nice but if they were informed ahead of time that cart age was 18, then they wouldn't have driven 40 minutes to walk and play the entire course. Untop of that my sons buddy was double charged due to booking a tee time online prior to showing up to the course and even though the charge went through to his card, the pro shop claimed there was no tee time booked and made him pay again. Pretty solid course, despite it being a "muni." It was a long course - as in, lots of yardage. It took us 5 1/2 hours to play a 4-man scramble. That's saying something.. we weren't backed up or anything, either. Really helpful staff - loved interacting with everyone.. very friendly and helpful. We came at the beginning of March so the grass wasn't super green and lush yet, but considering it all, it was in decent shape. Greens were good speed. Shout out to the bartender who was helping out a couple dozen people at ones and being the only one staffed at the time! read more

As an Austin resident for over 20 years, I would rate Avery as my favorite public course. Great scenery, always deer roaming, and a challenging, yet fair course. The greens and fairways are normally in great condition. Each hole has its unique character and the shorter par 4s and 5s allow decisions between being aggressive or laying up. Favorites are the par 5 #5 with a great challenge having to carry the water on your third shot and then #7 with a narrow landing area off the tee and then having to carry water/canyon on your second shot. read more

Something has to change! I have been wanting to play this course for a long time. I drove an hour and a half to play a course that I have heard nothing but good things about. Misleading is an understatement... To pay over $100 and the greens be chopped up and re-sodded, is one thing. The bunkers not being consistent at all and rocky in some parts, is questionable too. But I can live with those things, but be a little irritated. Not that big of a deal... BUT when I have to wait 15-20 minutes at every tee box on the back 9 (104 degree weather) because a guy hit a hole in one, then proceeded to get piss drunk and forget there is a pace clock... that's different. And yes the marshal knew about it. I was the 3rd team behind the drunken parade and we had as many as 4 groups stacked up on a tee box at once. But no one who worked at the course said or did anything about it. If you want to run that sort of establishment, go for it, just don't charge premium prices for a half rate course and staff. read more

Let me just say that my husband and I spent $5000 on a year membership at this club. I was led to believe that they had an abundance of activities to meet new people example ..scrambles, golf tournaments, MGA, LGA, etc.. What a joke... You can't even get a teatime they treat members like second rate after the outside play. Avery has certainly upped their game. the layout has always been challenging but they traditionally had issues with their greens. I can remember years ago noticing that every green rolled differently and there was an instance where the greens were lost and we were charged $68.00. Kudos we did have our greens fees returned but that experience had me avoiding this track for years. Well after 2 recent visits I can say Avery is now an easy 4-star golf course. The greens are all rolling true and will allow you to go pin hunting with your approach shot. The fairways are consistent and even with the lack of rain I never had a bad lie. Their practice range is more than sufficient to pound balls which will us hacks to groove our hack swings. Lastly, the clubhouse, bar, food offerings are well above average. I was pleasantly surprised at their craft beer selection and the special 2 beers and an App for ten bucks is a no brainer. read more

My wife and I got married at Avery over the weekend. The wedding coordinator was fantastic and we were extremely happy with the event. HOWEVER, when it came to the golf course, it was a tragedy. The service and accommodations were terrible. I had been talking up this course and looking back I wish we would have gone somewhere else. The greens and tee boxes were unacceptable for the price. The tee times were stacked 7 minutes apart and they wouldn't allow 5 in a group even when we waited on every shot. It's crummy that such a great course could go so quickly downhill due to mismanagement. I would highly recommend if you want to overpay for 6 hour rounds on crappy greens all while being treated like crap. read more

Played golf here today for a friend on a Tuesday. I checked in to walk 18 and was told it $109 since I am not a member and I said it is $52 online as a nonmember on your website. He said that is true but you have to book it online and he can't give me that rate. He charged me $75 including a cart fee when I was not using a cart and chose to walk the course. Avery Ranch has been using the modern marketing model of charge customers as much as possible and it will lead to there demise. Greens were better than usual but slow and bunkers were raked but all had dense packed sand like hitting off a dirt driveway. read more

I play here about 3 times a month. Out of the 3 associated courses (Avery, Falconhead, Teravista), I like this course the best because of its' layout and typically good conditions. The only negative condition is the sand. Their sand is clay like and mixed with several large rocks. But here is the catch with Avery. Magnolia Golf Management's approach seems to be to flood the courses with memberships both full members and player club members and then be fully open to the public in order to focus on revenue and put service and experience on the back burner. I get the sense that the course is overwhelmed which causes a decline in the overall experience. I will continue to play Avery because it is a very nice course and 5 minutes away. But I recommend you try Falconhead for a better experience. I like Avery's layout better, but both courses are typically in great shape. Falconhead seems better managed and I think anyone looking to have a golf outing with friends will have a better chance of an all around positive experience if you go play Falconhead and stay away from Avery. read more

I am not sure where to start as the possibility for improvement is huge. From running out of balls on the driving range to not being able to cancel a membership after 5 months of trying. I called in to set a tee time for 4 for a Tuesday. Person on the phone did not specify that all 4 people must show up or I will get charged for the 4th who's kid got sick and couldn't show. The cashier boy in the pro shop was as so smug about it I wanted to throw up. I will NEVER play here again. Tried to tell me this is a golf wide policy at all courses like I don't play twice a week in central Texas. Maybe spend more time tightening up the condition of your muni course and less about stealing from your patrons. Never again. read more

This golf course was incredible. We visited from Oregon and were concerned about what the conditions would be at the course being that it was August in Texas. The fairways were perfect and the greens rolled true. Couldn't be happier with our decision to play here. We almost skipped Avery Ranch because of the negative yelp reviews we read, but a couple other courses we planned on playing were aerating the greens while we were in town. Pro shop staff was helpful and the cart girl came by every few holes to see if we needed anymore beverages. The range is super hi-tech too. Great experience. read more

Booked my birthday round for a threesome on golf now. Added a 4th to the tee time but his home AC died the night before and couldn't make the tee time. I was charged his $77 for the tee time. After a week of trying to reach the pro shop, Golf Now gave me the GMs email address to see if they would refund my charge and of course I got the standard "it's our policy" email. Such a crap policy. The tee sheet wasn't even full that day. Great course but make sure you don't get screwed over by the management. read more

The staff has gotten so much better. They actually seem to care for the most part now. I think Teravista is a much better value and their course is kept in much better condition. But Avery is minutes from where I live so I go here more for the practice facility. The putting areas are often closed which is annoying, and the entire practice area is always crowded with a lot of a certain type of decent that doesn't seem to care about other people and they hoard the practice greens with 20+ balls taking up way too much space and deploying little to no etiquette. The hitting areas at the driving range are often in bad shape and the grass is inconsistent where some days it's super wet and soft and many days it's rock hard with big divots. It seems like they're off matts way too often. And the range balls are in dire need of replacement. I'd say 30% of my bucket the other day was comprised of balls with nicks and cuts which when struck would completely die mid flight. The balls are usually wet and dirty which is unacceptable. They need a better ball prep process before putting them into the machines or have a better cleaner inside the machine. I used to work at a private country club and many times manned the ball machine and I never had issues like they do here. The one super cool new feature is the Top Tracer technology (by Top Golf) where with your phone you can track each shot at the driving range. Super cool! If Avery wasn't so overrun with people it would be a much better experience. But no matter when you go it's the certain type of people out there practicing and being instructed by their personal golf coaches aka fathers taking up more than reasonable space at the putting and chipping areas and being incoherent to other people that are there to get in practice too. read more

Nice golf course but they lied to me. My wife gave me a $200 gift card a couple years ago. I wanted to take my Dad with it but due to Covid I only used it one time to hit some golf balls. I asked them if there was a time limit on the gift card and they said no and I could use it any time. I brought my Dad there on 8/12 and they said my card was too old and could not be used. I had to pay the entire amount, $192.70 for green fees and cart. read more

If I could rate it a 0 I would. Don't waste your $ or time ( length it takes to play a round) here. Tee boxes are sand. No garbage cans for your waste at each hole. Practice range has no area for anyone to hit balls as all the "members" are there hitting balls cause the course is always in bad shape and the don't want to waste their time out there. Covid Deniers. We had fun. The owners can't take that away from us. During an interesting discussion about extra required cart charges, I was informed that this club, Avery Ranch does not believe covid is real. The inside manager was very clear, does not believe covid is real... Shock... Awe. Is it worth debating this right there in public? If a business doesn't believe in covid, I'm pretty sure at this point I can't change their minds. Covid denial. The new freedoms we are experiencing with reopening are clearly emboldening this business who all along never believed. Good news for others who think covid is not real. You have a whole golf course to immerse within, surround yourself with folks who believe just like you that Covid is not real. What a relief to find a place where you can express your real opinion. Owners of Avery ranch, you are 100% entitled to your opinion... I would just politely suggest you either embrace it wholly or on the other extreme, maybe adopt a policy of not flaunting your opinion so publicly, for... As someone who does believe in covid, it was very uncomfortable to be somewhere full of covid denial. My choice to not return, is obviously my choice... PS. 5:30 minute round. Yes that's hours... It took 1 hour to play there first 3 holes... Other reviews comment on really slow rounds and over packed start times... They put people out every nine minutes, no breaks. Honestly the slowest round of golf I have ever played. Five and a half hours... 5.5 hours. Any way you write it, it was impressively poor... We waited... And waited. Made a tee time, plans changed so I canceled 28 hours (more than the 24 hours required). Pro shop confirmed later that I had been removed from the booking but their out-sourced reservation service charged me $71 for the privilege anyway. And for "dispute resolution" I was sent to some sock puppet named Cresto who has to "go ask the owner" but does not appear to be doing anything other than stalling me. Heard it from a buddy that this course is a great one to try because you can tell management cares about keeping this place running. They recently had a cart shortage due to a fire and they rebounded so well you couldn't even tell! I don't always play golf and I decided to splurge on this course and I don't regret it one bit. Had a great time with my brother, passing people on the course were so nice, party in front and behind us were real cool. Just a great time all around. Definitely the place I'm treating myself to since they're open to public and I don't golf a lot, but I would totally buy a membership once I get a raise. That's how good it is read more

I've played this course dozens of times over the years and always enjoyed it. It has historically been in solid condition and the design is nice, although bunkers could use some work. As of the past couple of years, the pace of play is completely unacceptable. The pro shop/ownership are the absolute worst. I am a former member of the players club (used to be around $80/mo), which gets you unlimited practice facility use and a round of golf a month at either Avery/Tera/Falconhead. Without being a member, a bucket of balls is $16....! Sparing a long story that began with an unreasonable handling of a tee time by the pro shop, all I can say is my credit card company was able to get my money back for rounds that were not honored and ongoing charges that were allegedly due to their contract. The way the goofballs acted the last time I was in there was enough for me to never go back, especially when they threw out the line I could "email the owner." Get real!
