Pretty damn good pizza good crust and quality toppings would make it a must stop if you're in the area

We came on Saturday night to grab a bite to eat with family. My daughter grabbed a pepperoni pizza which happens to be her go to. I grabbed ole faithful which was a Hawaiian. They offer gluten free options which my cousin was able to enjoy. We grabbed a soda and I got the Pineapple Cream Soda to go along with my Hawaiian and it was delicious. It wasn't very crowding considering it was about 9pm when we went. My daughter did say she enjoyed it and would love to go back. read more

Enjoyed our first visit to Aviator, and we'll plan to try it again on another day. We grabbed a few beers ($5-7/each) and ordered a caprese salad ($11) to start. Unfortunately, it came out late and exactly with our pizza ($25 for a '18 pie with pepperoni, mushrooms, and roasted garlic toppings). The beers were great, and they had plenty of local selections to choose from. I would not get the caprese salad again because it's overpriced for the small portion size. The large pizza was great size, and with the salad, we had half to take home. While the ingredients and toppings were fresh, they didn't bake the pizza to order (disappointed because we asked for well done, but it still came out a bit doughy). Overall, it's a bit of a premium price point, but likely worth a shot at a few other menu options. Last note- the patio area is perfect for sitting outside on a nice afternoon/evening, so hope to bring a few more friends next time. read more

This was not where I planned on going on the night I visited, but it was still an enjoyable experience. The beer selection is pretty good and the pizza was yummy (but not blow-your-mind level yummy). I will say my boyfriend's pizza, The Flying Garlic, was amazing and so flavorful The service was the best part for sure; I felt comfortable and taken care of during my meal. Aviator Pizza was solid, not amazing, but okay. We grabbed togo and picked it up on our way home from the gym so we could just collapse and eat some pizza. We got one white pie with arugula on top. It tasted like the greens weren't washed, and they were all wilted and slimy by the time the pizza got home 10 minutes later. The other pizza was better with a variety of meats and veg on top. But overall the dough felt a little undercooked on both and generally was a bit chewy. I'd be willing to try this spot again and likely sit down to eat it in person and hope that it's better right out of the oven, maybe it just doesn't travel well? But pizza is a notoriously delivered food item, so I would hope that's not the case. All in all, i'm not that impressed but willing to give them another go. read more

Let's start with the good. In a day an age where customer service is dead... the two gentlemen at the counter were delightful. The beer selection was decent. Now the rest... like most things in Austin, this place was hyped but that's all it was. The pizza was so pedestrian I thought it was a joke. There was no elasticity or flavor to the crust, other than caulky flour taste. It reminded me of a Red Barron frozen pizza. The only problem is that a 14" two topping pizza cost north of $20. The pizza was crunchy but not in a good way. It was crunchy because it was dry and flavorless. Do not judge the partially eaten box as a sign of endorsement. I had just gotten off a plane from ME and would have eaten the box given no other choice. Pizza is delicious here! The crust is cooked throughly, but has a soft/crunch to it. They are more than generous with their toppings. They use more cheese than sauce, but it is well balanced. They have a large variety of draft beers to choose from. I don't think they serve liquor, but the selection of beers is more than enough. You order at the counter, have a seat anywhere and it takes about 15 minutes to get your pizza after you order at the counter. The vibe here is chill with TVs around the restaurant to catch a game. It can get loud since it's an open space, but it's expected given the bar/restaurant type. Service is great, they greet you as you walk in. Elgin location never let me down! I looked at the closing time wrong and arrived 15mins before closing ( I never go to a restaurant 30mins within closing time). They still took my order and was very polite about informing me of no dine in. I ordered quickly and missed asking about the Sunday special that my son informed me of. I believe it was the manager because he's always super professional, calm and polite while being on top of things brought out the Sunday special that I THOUGHT I missed out on since I didn't mention; being in a rush. This help my tired night not having to cook, and receiving the Sunday special had my son dance out the restaurant. read more

We just arrived in town on Sunday night and needed dinner. We called and ordered a specialty pizza for pickup. It was ready super fast. The price was reasonable. The staff definitely appeared to be on top of COVID precautions. The pizza was so so. The crust didn't impress. Sort of like a grocery store premade crust from a bag. Okay no. Who in their right mind makes a calzone with Feta cheese?! Any good Italian girl knows that calzones are only made with mozzarella and RICOTTA! Inquiring with the young gentleman taking orders as to why no option for ricotta, he simply told me "It's above my pay grade". Funny, yes. Sad, absolutely! So instead we ordered the Italian grinder sandwich with the honey sriracha Brussels as the side. The same guy then stated "ok, it'll be 20 minutes for you pizza". Wait!? What!? I ordered a sandwich. "Oh, yeeeaahh, right. The sandwich will be about 15 minutes." Wow a sandwich which takes 15 minutes. I should've headed to Thundercloud at that moment. In fairness, the sandwich wasn't bad. The Brussels were cold! On purpose!! Ummm no!! Oh, and their soda selection is pretty great, if you're into that. It just really wasn't that good We had friends in town and decided to try Aviator. All of us commented that the crust on the pizzas were oddly sweet. We thought maybe it was the sauce until we tried the crust alone and nope, sweet and sugar. It also needed salt and needed to cook longer. All the pizzas were skimpy on toppings and heavy on dough. We had two kids with us and their large ground beef pizza probably had 3 ounces of meat. All the pizzas too were large but the slices were tiny (not the pizza, the slices). The whole meal was very reminiscent of buffet pizza in flavor and size of slice. The only good thing all of us liked were the salads - probably best salad from a pizza place I've had in Austin. read more

We got the gf pizza and cinnamon dessert. Both had good flavor, but they were both a bit over baked, which made the dough tough. Gluten free dough is hard to get right. We got a yummy strawberry cider and that was quite refreshing. Overall it was a nice meal. read more

We had a work meet and greet here for lunch , so unfortunately I wasn't able to taste their craft beer but it looked so good I felt like I was drooling on the inside. Really nice place with both indoor and outdoor seating. Bench style seating. I was able to order everything from my phone after scanning the QR code. I ordered a chicken bacon ranch which is what I normally get when eating California style pizza. It was very good. Although, everyone else ordered the South Austin and it looked really good, they all loved it, but The salad on a pizza just ain't for me. I am not from Austin so I don't know what to compare to, but I will definitely be back to try another pizza and definitely the Hazy IPA. Our salad and Buffalo pizza were very good and the soda brand was sweet. We didn't drink beer, but there was a very large selection. The restrooms were clean, decent amount of parking. We love this place! The staff is extremely accommodating and helpful. One lady (I'm sorry I don't remember her name) tried three different propane heaters before giving up and calling out her manager Angel, who switched tanks and expertly wrangled the fickle device to make sure we were nice and toasty. The food is excellent. I particularly like the cinnamon dessert. Best. Crust. Ever. The constantly rotating selection of alcoholic beverages is perfectly splendid. I would recommend some great beers but you likely will not make it in time; you can never tire of the same old selection! (I recommend the Pineapple IPA and the Cherry Sour). I highly recommend gracing this fine establishment during these trying times, and enjoying a great atmosphere with wonderful people and excellent food and drink. I thought I would give Aviator a try while in Austin for the weekend since I found good reviews and it was close to my airbnb. I am sad to say I was not impressed. We ordered the Caesar salad which was good. We also ordered a Hawaiian and Ground Control pizza. They were very disappointing. I have to assume that the cheese used on the pizzas is a blend and not just mozzarella since it had a funk to it. I assume provolone. The crust and sauce were not bad but there was way too much sauce. This will also sound like a strange thing to complain about but there were too many toppings. Something can be said about minimal toppings. I don't really care for a pile of toppings on my pizza that are so thick. Overall, I was disappointed in the pizzas given all the good reviews. read more

I am not a thin crust person. I'm just not. Aviator's pizza crust is the perfect thickness to me, where you can enjoy the bread as well as the toppings. Their garlic pizza is one of my favorites, but the cheese burger and south Austin are also solid choice. We always have to get their mozzarella bread because the cheese/garlic/butter/crust combination makes it one of the best things on the menu. They have a huge rotating beer selection and plenty of seating if you're wanting to eat there. I've taken pizza to go a few times too and it transports well. read more
