Acre is a cool little coffee place with one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. I was up in the Petaluma area for an appointment, and had some time to kill so I decided I would stop in for a coffee and an egg sandwich. Neither disappointed, and that sammie will be on my mind for years to come. As far as parking goes, there is a lot across the street and a bunch of street parking out front. The indoor seating was closed because of covid, but they did have a few tables outside for outdoor dining. The ordering process was simple. You order and pay at the window, and then they call your name when the food or drink is ready. Everything is made fresh, so it takes a few minutes to get your stuff. I went for a mocha, and was pleased with it. Everything was as it should be. The egg sandwich had a fresh bun, which was sort of like a muffin, then the egg which was large and fluffy, bacon, cheese, and some sort of green. Spinach or kale or something? Not really sure. either way, it was amaze-balls. On top of the great food and ambiance, the service was wonderful. Everyone was friendly, prompt, and helpful. The next time I am up in the area, I will make it a point to stop in at Acre. It truly gives you the feel of a small town coffee shop. read more

This place is busy for a reason. Came here everyday for 4 days straight during a visit because it was so good. The Chai latte was perfect and my friends loved their cold brew. Highly recommend getting the avocado toast and the salmon toast as well as their croissants! Boy, Acre coffee is a real hit or miss proposition. Have had several cups of enjoyable hot chocolate and coffee at the Montgomery village store in Santa Rosa. This downtown Petaluma Store has twice sold me coffee and hot chocolate that is mediocre at best. Hot chocolate was watery, practically flavorless, and not even blended well. Lots of sugar residue on the bottom of the cup. Coffee was burnt tasting. Odd flavor, almost metallic. Is the water bad here? Got to surmise that the product is inferior and the baristas are talent free. Being served unsatisfactory drinks twice, No return for me. read more

Love, love, love Avid Coffee. Their handcrafted espresso drinks are far superior to their competition. They have a long list of made in house syrups. Today I tried the Rose Latte. It was the perfect combination of rich espresso and Rose syrup. The barista told me they made the syrup in the shop. It was perfect. I also ordered a mocha, because I don't get to this location as often as I would like. And hey, I'm a tired mommy who can never get enough caffeine. We also ordered a cinnamon roll and a crumble donut. (They are half off the last hour before they close.) The only reason they get five stars instead of four is their hours. They close WAY too early. 4 pm on weekdays and 3 pm on weekend. I wish they were open later. They should consider being open until 5 or 6. Either way it is worth a stop the next time you are downtown Petaluma. Just keep in mind their early hours so that you don't get left without your caffeine fix. read more

Whenever I go to a new coffee shop, I try to get their house drip and something unique so I can get an overall feel for what they offer and Acre didn't disappoint. House drip: It's pretty good! It has some heavy fruit notes with a full body. Definitely worth checking out and I'll have to go back to try their other roasts. Mint matcha latte: Delicious matcha latte with a hint of mint that isn't too overpowering and isn't too subtle that you don't realize it's there. A perfect combination of creamy, matcha, and minty! Currently, they have outdoor seating but it isn't covered so it's open to the elements. This may change as the weather changes to winter. This is right around the corner from the Mystic Theatre and is a great respite from an event there. I ordered an iced matcha latte and the avocado toast with toasted seeds and olive oil. The olive oil was a nice touch that made the dish stand out from most avocado toast meals. It was simple but satisfying and I'd recommend it! The iced matcha latte was also very good. Overall this is a great place to do work out of or meet friends. Many of the customers at the time (a Saturday morning) seemed bougie like lots of soccer moms and people who came from yoga. I have never been to this coffee shop before, but my boyfriend said a lot of people go there. I was pleasantly surprised to see a line out the door, as well as a number of people outside with their drinks. I don't mind waiting in line, since lines mean, the food and drinks are usually that, delicious and well worth waiting for! Lol the line took maybe 10 minutes, which was fine because I had no idea what I wanted! As I got closer, I noticed they had a seasonal drink menu, and I ended up ordering a pumpkin latte! It was made with homemade local Sonoma, pumpkin purée, syrup, as well as a combo of cardamom and nutmeg. Spices! My boyfriend thought it tasted too much like cardamom for him, but I loved it!! I loved their display of all their beans as well! I wish I could've had a coffee tasting with pour overs of each coffee! There were at least four I wanted to try!! I will definitely have to go back and try more of their drip coffee or buy beans for the house! I wish they had some gluten-free items, but I know that's hard to come by with dietary restrictions. Two capps for Eric went downhill fast. The aforementioned blond woman should not be steaming milk without first having been properly trained. Don't steam your milk with the wand at the bottom of the pitcher where one can hear a whine as the milk cooks. Scalded milk doesn't make for a good drink. Don't make two drinks with the same milk. One drink is too hot & one drink is less too hot. Both drinks are sub-par. Btw: I don't care about foam art, but if your drinks are both too hot & very bitter, then maybe mask poor product with a foam feather or a flower or something. And, hey: short-pouring both drinks was bad form as well. (See: don't make two drinks with the same milk.) I'll wait ten minutes for a great drink. Have great recommendations for the drinks, I ended up getting the iced worker bee (honey and mint) latte with almond milk and my sister got the iced mint matcha with some extra chocolate drizzle! This coffee shop is pretty good! I love the seating arrangement; kind of reminds me of an old classroom or test taking center. Their menu is extensive with a good variety of coffee drinks. They also were serving Holiday specials such as gingerbread latte and peppermint mocha. I enjoyed their regular coffee, Ice Breaker (winter blend); it was light but had notes of chocolate and caramel. This was a great tasting medium roast. They sell Merch and their coffee beans here as well in case you're interested. Overall, I did like this coffee shop but it wasn't mind blowing or anything unique. I found this place a couple of weeks ago completely by accident and under very stressful circumstances. I cannot say enough good things about it. Yes I can. I went back three days out of five because it was so good! The strong coffee -- tall, black, unsweetened -- was everything I want in a coffee. The food too was great. I had their yogurt parfait (wow), their breakfast frittata (good) and their grilled cheese with avocado (very good except the avocado kept falling out). My problem with the last two items is that they were hard to eat in that they were wrapped for eating by hand and the olive oil used in cooking was all over the paper. Cant go wrong with Acre Coffee, love this downtown location. I've stopped in before for a quick drink to go but this last time stopped in for breakfast and stayed awhile. It was pretty busy on a Saturday morning but still plenty of seating open inside and out and didn't wait too long for our order. Very happy to have clearly identified vegan / gluten free items on menu. They have a gluten free English muffin / avocado toast and a hash dish we shared. Both were pretty satisfying! Brown Hills of Petaluma! We were excited last weekend because we had seen the three coffee shops and early this afternoon while we were driving around before we found a parking spot, Yelp came in handy to report a few options at the edge of the park not two blocks from where we parked. We went there, still desiring coffee and in the early afternoon heart-pounding of excitement. Yelp had pointed where the coffee shops had lined up along the path........ Hemingway was awesome, wasn't he? Anyhow, we decided on Acre. The Cafe has a modern look to it with a longer table with a dozen or so seats in the center and then a number of smaller tables on the right when you walk in; perfect if you want to plug in or just read. The young lady at the register was very pleasant and smiling while she took our orders. I asked for Americano, and wanted the entire cup to run through the grinds (vs. espresso shot with hot water added). The barista lady was awesome! She asked me to clarify what I wanted and delivered a perfect cup of Americano a few minutes later. She was extremely pleasant throughout even though this was obviously not a common order or request. There was a very nice foam on the top and the aroma was amazing. I loved the taste of their coffee as well. The cup hit the spot. If you are a coffee snub like me who enjoys darker roast, you are very likely to be very pleased with the coffee here. p.s. Great food, great coffee. Yet - Saturday mid-morning and the line is to the door, and every seat in the place taken - including half a dozen people spread out with laptops, working. It only takes a few times of not being able to find a seat before customers head elsewhere. Seriously, if you want to be a work-from-home cafe that's fine but it will drive all your other customers away. I get it that it can be a pain to enforce a no-laptop rule or whatever it takes, but if you only have twenty seats in the entire cafe and a quarter of them are taken up by the zoom/spreadsheet crowd, it leads regular customers to go elsewhere. read more

When in town, I become a total regular at Avid. A huge telling sign of quality coffee is the ability to drink it without having to add a bunch of sweeteners and Avid is just this. From their nitro cold brews to warm latte, Avid is the perfect place for a caffeine fix with some of the best coffee in Petaluma. When I'm not in the mood for a sweet coffee, I get their nitro cold brew with unsweetened almond milk and don't feel like I'm skipping on the experience. They also have varying breakfast options for a snack such as their Avocado Toast and vegan banana bread muffin. During peak times, it can be a moderate wait so I recommend ordering online before if you're in a rush. I'm not as big a fan of Avid as when it was Acre and Susan managed the place. Susan had employees who she hired who represented Acre well and she was always fun and kind. She gave me a free drink when she learned I'd had cancer. It was a small gesture that won my heart! I decided to tell the manager about the 6/4/24 experience I witnessed where a customer lost her entire lunch and drink to a blast of wind. I asked the manager to step outside so I could talk to her in private. I told her about the woman losing her entire meal and that while the employees helped her clean it up (and she'd just started her meal) no one offered to replace it. I know, I was there, and, I replaced her meal, me, a fellow customer. I wanted her to know that I thought in the future they should replace the meal as it was a "matter of perception" and that it might benefit AVID. I said the woman had a salad and some other food. All I remember was green. She said, "Well, in the first place we don't sell salads, so she likely got it next door, and that every single time that...." and I cut her off, I said, well all I knew was that the employees knew what happened as they helped her clean it up and that no, no one did replace her meal (at least the part she got at Avid). I suggested that she was arguing with me and as she walked away, she said that she wasn't. This is how I believe in a professional manner she might have replied, "Thank you", or thank you, we do normally replace a meal in these instances." I believe what I was offering AVID, was a gift of: (Other) people, as well as this customer, may remember a kind gesture, and it may give them an appreciative view of AVID. That's what Susan's gift of a drink did for me. I'll always remember how kind Susan was. Now, however, I may limit my exposure to AVID and go to Stelina Pronto that has always had a better selection of treats. I recently met up with some friends while rolling (briefly) through Petaluma - Acre Coffee was the meeting place. Cool, cute little vibe to the place. My friends ordered a drink called "cortado" and I went with an espresso. Boring, huh? I kinda thought so when I saw this enticing looking drink arrive in front of my friends. Luckily, the barista called me up to the counter and explained, "The beans are not right for an espresso today...I don't want to serve you something that's not going to be right." Me, "Thanks for the heads-up, I'll have what my pals are having." Great call! I had my first "cortado" ever and it was amazing! What's a cortado you ask? According to Wikipedia: A cortado is a Spanish-origin general term for a beverage consisting of espresso mixed with a roughly equal amount of warm milk to reduce the acidity. The milk in a cortado is steamed, but not frothy and "texturized" as in many Italian coffee drinks. So, there you have it...an hour stopover in Petaluma produced a nice visit with friends and a cortado at Acre Coffee.
