First of all, the coffee here is the best in Petaluma. It's why I come back here. Their drip coffee is a 10/10 as far as I am concerned. Their staff is a completely different story. I began utilizing their mobile order option in an attempt to minimize my interaction with their unfriendly staff but I still encounter rude, unwelcoming employees when I go in to get my coffee. It is so strange to walk into a cafe and have three or four employees all look you in the eye as you wait and have no smile and to not greet you when you smile at them. I have encountered the same young woman with a shaved head and pony tail who was working at the food heating station turn around and glare at customers before turning back around. What is her deal? Placing her at the oven isn't enough to hide her bad energy from the customers. Today I watched a customer try to thank the employees about three times for a large order and they all stared at him like he was speaking in a foreign language. They then proceeded to make fun of him as he walked away. Seriously, what is wrong with the workers here?! The wait time is also unbelievably long (I know it isn't Starbucks and that they're crafting a high quality product but if I order a drip coffee on mobile order to go at 11:06 AM, it should be ready when I come to get it at 11:25 AM.) If you want a GREAT tasting cup of coffee and that's all you care about, this is the place to go. If you like to go somewhere that is warm, welcoming, and the employees are POLITE, stay far, far away from here. read more

Ok- mixed feelings about this place. 1. The breakfast sandwiches were awesome! Would definitely recommend. 2. Their coffee was very good as well, however, I ordered a medium latte and the milk was only filled 1/2 way, more like a cappuccino. When my husband took it back to the bar and asked to top it off with milk, the barista replied, "No, I don't have any more."?!!!! What?! After all the years, all the coffee shops I've been to, I've never been told no to a little more steamed milk! I went to the bar myself and explained to the barista that a latte is filled to the top with milk, not halfway up the cup. So ridiculous! Apparently they don't want people ripping them off? The place is slow, it took 20 min to get a cup of drip coffee. 5 min just to get to the counter and 15 in to get the 8 ounce cup. Workers appear so disinterested and sluggish that I wonder if they like working there. Walked to STELLINA and received an order in less than 2 min. I do not care if people who work at Avid will recognize me by this review. Definitely not going there again. Lived in Petaluma for 18 years and will certainly outlive this place. I wish I had heeded the previous reviews on the staff...As much as I enjoy a wonderful cup of coffee, the staff would make me look elsewhere. My husband and I were staying the weekend in Petaluma and I followed the reviews for Avid which was in the downtown district where we were staying. When we walked in, the male barista was using the f-word before we made it to the counter. We were the first customers after the store opened. No one greeted us or in any way appeared friendly or welcoming. For a $30 breakfast, there are other quaint places in the neighborhood that offer appreciation for your patronage. Absolutely ridiculous and horrible experience. We waited ten minutes in line and then 25 minutes to get three simple drinks. They needed at least double the staff because they were filling all these pick up orders before people in the store. They should tell people about the long wait when they order. We came here last week and it was delicious. Even though they were slow, and all the girls "working" were huddled and talking ignoring my order, the man who may have been the owner or manager made our food and apologized for the delay. The coffee and English muffin and frittata with bacon were so good we had to come back today. Well, even though we ordered ahead and I arrived when it should have been done, they hadn't started yet. Regardless that it made me late for a seminar I'm attending, I thought that's ok because it was delicious food. Gee was I wrong. The English Muffin wasn't even toasted. As a matter of fact it was dripping in what I at first thought was butter, but after smelling it was bacon grease. Check out the picture and you'll see what I mean. Got a bagel that was burnt with no butter, and it was supposed to have butter. Nothing was edible. We spent just shy of $50 and had to throw the food away. The coffee was still good. I hope the beans we got are good. But I don't think I'll shop here again. If they don't improve I don't see how this place will stay open. Quit frankly I think they should get rid of the current staff and start over with people who actually give a damn about performing the service they are paid to do. read more

Stopped by on Saturday afternoon Easter weekend. The place wasn't hard to find, just off the main downtown street. I was surprised to find out they don't serve pour overs in this shop, which most speciality coffee shops do offer now a days. They do offer brewed coffee for their single origin, but it was clearly soured not from the taste note but from the coffee sitting out too long. Also tried their nitro, probably one of the best one I had. Smoothy and creamy. However, I've never seen anyone else serve nitro cold brew with a glass full of ice. They do serve a variety of other drinks and light bites. Very relaxing vibe with a communal table. read more

Such a hit and miss place. Sometimes, the service is super friendly and quick. Other times, it's slow as hell and the people working act like they'd rather be anywhere else in the world. They have good coffee and pastries, but it's almost not worth the bad attitude. So so so Petaluma. Be warned: do not go if you are in a rush. Great coffee--of course--limited but delicious breakfast sandwiches. Vibe is just what you'd imagine which is either going to tickle you beyond measure and/or make you feel like you just walked onto a movie set of an Uber hip dog cafe. My FAVORITE coffee by far!! I go to Petaluma from San Rafael just for one of the tasty lattes. The vegan banana bread is off the hook good! Last time I went it was bustling and busy! A great spot for locals and visitors. I had the turmeric chai which was delicious. Acre seems to be a great place to catch up with a friend or just enjoy your beverage solo. Acre is a popular spot depending on the day so if the seating is taken you can always stroll around downtown. All in all you should give Acre a visit when in the town of Petaluma. read more

The DMV handbook recommend, if you do a lot of driving and begin to feel drowsy and sleepy, take a break and do whatever it takes to wake your ass up before getting behind the wheel again. This applied to me every time I drive as far as Petaluma from San Francisco. "I'm aware I'm getting old. I'm sure the similar occurrence applies to you too. So we're on the same boat as well!" Of course, there is a Starbucks and Peet's in Downtown Petaluma. I mean, unless the city is poor, which downtown city(s) does not have Starbucks? As sleepy as I was, I have enough energy to find an independent coffee house to hopefully find a better (quality-wise and stronger) cup of coffee. And Acre Coffee bar is where I landed. The coffee house uses Flying Goat Coffee Company; based out of Healdsburg, which is up north from Petaluma. For $2.50, I get that same coffee company in my cup of coffee in the afternoon. The café's coffee is made drip-style for a better tasting cup of Joe. "Oh yeah, I feel a lot better with a strong cup of coffee." I also like the café's offering of Agave nectar sweetener for your beverage. "Makes my coffee even better". Briefly, the café is a cool hangout for people with laptops to do what they gotta do.
