Worst place ever! Our flight was delayed promised me they would remain open and they failed! Employees at the airport told me to report this to bbb which I am. Had to spend over a 100 in Uber and went to her car in the am and get attitude. Made us wait for over 35 minutes and last at counter Saturday 6/28/2025 is so mean and nasty. I went to the airport Avis location around 10 PM on Sunday, June 1st after my car broke down. I had tried to make a reservation online but was having technical issues, so I went in person. There was no one else in line, but the employee at the counter didn't even acknowledge me--he was on a personal call on his cellphone and continued the conversation for several minutes before even looking up. When he finally addressed me, I told him I needed to rent a car and was hoping for help with the online booking process. Without offering any assistance, he said, "We don't have any more cars." I explained that I understood but just needed help understanding the online process. He repeated again, "You're not understanding me. We don't have any cars." I asked, "So even if I'm able to book an online reservation right now, you wouldn't have a car for me?" He replied, "Right." It was frustrating and honestly shocking. Avis will apparently let you complete a reservation online even if they have no vehicles available--there's no way to know you're out of luck until you show up. So I walked over to the Enterprise counter, where the difference was night and day. The employee there greeted me right away, and even though they were also fully booked, he offered options--waiting to see if reservations were unclaimed, checking for a minivan, or looking upstairs for other vehicles. He was solutions-oriented and respectful. I ended up renting a minivan at a reduced rate since it wasn't my first choice. From now on, I'll be checking Enterprise first. I have been an Avis Preferred customer for more than 20 years. I went to pick up a car today with a confirmed reservation and was refused a car since my Amex Platinum card was "denied". When I called Amex and discussed the issue with them, I was told that Avis had tried charging the same amount 5 times and it had gone through every single time. The manager spoke to the representative and even got an authorization code from them, but their systems would not permit the rental. Please be aware that you may not be able to rent from Avis in Westchester Airport since their systems are terrible. As a side note, I walked over or National and was able to get a car in under 4 minutes with the same credit card. read more

I will never understand why it takes 30 minutes to show a drivers license as credit card and answer a couple of yes or no questions. And never understand why agents need breaks between every customer. Thank god more rental car companies are starting to offer automated check in with an app. read more

I had a reservation made in advance at this location and when i arrived there were no cars available even though i had prepaid--and i was not the only one. There was a line of angry airline passengers also with reservations waiting for cars to be returned. This is highly unprofessional as the other companies at this airport showed they were "sold out" of cars online and on the phone, as it should be, whereas Avis kept saying there were rental cars available and charging people for cars that weren't there. The worker at the desk was very helpful and gave us the only reasonable time estimates so we would not waste our time in such a manner. I will never rent from this company again, buyer beware - they will leave you stranded with no remorse or any recompense. Don't make the same mistake I did! read more

Edited for update 9/6/22 - see bottom for update... We originally booked our reservation in December at a total est cost of $620. In March we "modified" our reservation by 2 days. Instead of honoring the original price for the original timeframe and adding 2 days at March's rates, Avis cancelled & rebooked the entire reservation at March's rates. Thus, by adding the 2 days to our reservation, Avis requoted us $1480, making the additional cost $860 or $430/day (not what I would call a "modification"). I did speaking with cust serv at the time, but got nowhere. Additionally the car we received seems to have an issue with its alignment. It had a noticeable and annoying shake to the entire car when going between the speeds of 40-60 MPH. It definitely needed to be serviced. When we picked it up, it seemed clean (dash, seats, carpets were all clean), but it was soon evident that the inside of the windscreen was filthy. It was very difficult to look through with the sun directly on it or, worse, at night with other cars coming from the opposite direction with their lights on. We had to purchase cleaning supplies just to clean it so we could drive safely. Further, I dropped something between the center console & the driver's seat and had to move the seat to retrieve it. When I did, I found 2 used coffee cups, a McDonald's cheeseburger wrapper, a handful of french fries and several other food items that i couldn't identify. I then found similar (but not as much) items under the passenger seat. Lastly, the front passenger door had something wrong with its weather stripping. At speed, it was constantly making whistling sound. For a 2-4 day around-the-town rental it wouldn't have been a problem, but we had the car for over a week and put on over 1200 miles, much of it highway. It was a constant distraction, and all 5 of us were annoyed with it. Please note that our issues with Avis are directly related to it's poor rental policy and the vehicle we were assigned. Avis employees were all helpful and pleasant. Update 9/6/22 - On 8/24/22 a Territory Performance Manager (for the area in which we rented the vehicle) contacted me by email within a day or 2 of completing their customer survey, which echoed the above issues. He apologized and offered a $200 credit for our troubles with Avis and the vehicle. He also stated that he could not "see the original booking", which intimated to me that he would be willing to look further into honoring the quoted price of the original booking. I replied by sending him both confirmation emails I received - the 1st for the original booking in December and the 2nd for the Modified booking in March, and asked him to let me know if can do anything else for us. I have not heard from him since. On 8/31/22 I received a response from Avis regarding the above Google review asking for our rental number so they could look into it further for us. I replied by letting them know what the "Territory Performance Manager" said & did as well as providing both confirmation emails and ask them to look further into honoring the original quoted price. I received a reply on 9/4 confirming that Avis' policy is to change prices to current rates with each modification (not their words, but paraphrased), that the $200 credit will be processed followed by the usual fluff - we're glad you brought this to our attention, this does not reflect Avis' usual high standards, a report has been sent to the manager in question, etc., blah, blah, blah. As such, we remain unsatisfied Avis customers. No doubt that the $200 helps, but with that, it reduces the additional 2 day additional rental cost to $330/day which is still ludicrous. read more

Maybe this was just a really "on" day. But in all my life I have never had such a perfect easy rental car experience. It turns out a lot of people from Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn go to White Plains to rent a car. It's vastly cheaper. Now the cab from the train station (which takes 10 minutes) is a flat fee of 25 and YOU MUST pay cash. I will write a Yelp review about that. My guy was nice, took me to ATM and all that. But White Plains is civilization. They have Equinox, a BLT steakhouse, Nordstrom. Westchester County is not some bumf*** place. Nor is it ghetto. It is therefore unacceptable that GINO cabs do not take cards. I was stunned in Jersey City (took the PATH to Journal or something) to find that those cabs are cash only. It's largely gentrified there now (at least half of Jersey City) and it's close to Manhattan so that was annoying. But in White Plains it's completely unacceptable, particularly when the flat fee to airport is 25 (with tip 30, unless you're a jerk and don't tip like a decent person). But even with that 30 buck add-on it is SO much cheaper. Also, unlike Avis on E 87, which is a one hour wait to pick up a car you already booked even when there are three people in line before you (not ten), the entire process took 5 minutes. One woman in front of me. Then I gave the desk clerk my credit card and license. Unlike the Avis in the city, which involved more paperwork than a re-finance on a large home, or the negotiation of a co-op purchase in the city, this was one and done. I have no idea why the man at 87th Street had to print reams of paper I had to initial multiple times and this many printed up one thing, and I just signed on the electronic screen. The cars are close to the terminal. It's a tiny cute airport. Now it was raining very hard and many flights were canceled, so maybe at peak hours things take longer. But he even upgraded me from Ford Fiesta to Kia Soul, which I loved! I drove from White Plains to Rhode Island and dropped the car off at 64th Street. E 64th Street is far better run than E 87th. I highly recommend renting in White Plains if you can afford to spend the time. You'll save some money and the experience of picking up a car at the Westchester Airport is worth the trek. It took me longer to DROP OFF my car than it did to pick the thing up at the airport. Of course that's because the bonehead hippies didn't understand you need a credit card (not debit). I confess it's confusing because they take your debit for prepay (surprising). But they don't really debit the account I guess. And you must give them a legit card upon pickup of car. It was still faster than E 87th Street. I cannot believe it took me one full hour to pick up a car I'd booked online beforehand. read more

I always rent from Avis for personal and business travel. At any location I go to I can expect the same high level of serviceand fast processing. I'm good with that. The prices can be a little bit expensive at times however the selection and equality makes up for it when compared to other rental companies. read more

As noted by others, they will charge you $10 a gallon to top off the tank even if you return it full. I filled up at the closest gas station to the airport and drove directly there and got an additional $5 added to my bill to account for .5 gallons of gas. If you have a problem they are impossible to reach! The telephone number when you google is NOT correct to actually reach them. When you try to speak with a representative the message says "if you are calling from a rotary phone stay on the line", then says "Thank you Good-bye!" It took 40 minutes going through several numbers to make a reservation to reach someone. Then she spoke very dismissively to me & told me I should have called the correct number! I live 20 miles away from this rental location but it is well worth the travel time to use this location. The associates are very friendly abd are willing to help you if you run into any issues. The cars are clean and ready to go. read more
