Awful experience. Flew into HPN to attend wedding and related events, arranged a Hertz rental car months before and received multiple confirmations from Hertz. Arrived at the pick up desk only to find out they have no cars available. When we asked when a car would be available, we were told they don't know but there are 7 other people before us in the same predicament. Not having reserved cars available for confirmed reservations seems to be a common experience at this airport based on reviews we read subsequently, and comments we heard from local ride service drivers. I am a Presidential Circle member and have been using mostly Hertz rentals for over 30 years so, not a rookie to renting cars for both myself as well as clients. Since Covid things at Hertz have gone from bad to horrendous. I am a corporate pilot and I arrived into White Plains airport at 3:15 in the morning only to find that my car was not there, nor was there a taxi, Uber or anything else that looked like transportation, however, (fortunately for us crew members) Go Rentals had a rental facility on site and the line service was able to take care of us. Hertz's explanation was that they couldn't leave a car for a 3:30 AM arrival, in spite of the fact that I asked for the car to be dropped off at 6:30 PM the night before because they said that the facility was not open 24 hours, which I alerted them that it was. When that excuse didn't work the supervisor started coming up with many other excuses, which were easily crushed. This is but one of the many terrible experiences I have experienced over the last few years but enough is enough. If at all possible, stay away from Hertz because they will not be there to support you and again, this is coming from someone that uses many rental cars per year and has been doing so for many years. read more

Hertz at Westchester County Airport is relatively easy to deal with. The Hertz counter is right in the Baggage Claim area. So I snagged my contract and keys while waiting for my bag. It's a very short walk out to the parking lot - out the door and to the left. Upon return, there was a Hertz agent in the parking lot - which actually surprised me given how small the Airport is. She processed me quickly and efficiently and I was on my way. NOTE: If you need to refuel your rental car before returning it - plan it better than I did. There are no gas stations close to the airport. Since it was my first time returning a car here - I was unaware of this. I ended up exiting the Airport and driving over to Armonk, NY - a few miles away to find a gas station. read more

I arrived at the airport at 12:30pm. I had a reservation with Hertz. There was no line yet, but I had to wait for a car to be ready for an hour. I was told it was because there were "too many cars." Please make that make sense. Then, when there was a car ready for me, I was told NOT to walk to the parking lot to pick up the car, but that it was being brought to the curb at the terminal. I waited 15 more minutes and still no car. I watched people who had come later receive their cars. I went inside to ask where my car was and the young woman at the counter began to lecture me, stating, "I just want to set your expectations." When I interrupted her scripted lecture to ask where my car was, she called me rude. I was not rude. I was assertive and very late for my appointment. She told me that the manager had just brought a car up to the curb and mine was next. I found the manager, who told me that, no, in fact, my car was sitting in the parking lot, waiting for me to go get it. I trudged over to the parking lot and searched all over for the car and it was not there. Finally, a Hertz employee pulled up with my car and said he'd just been to the terminal with it. I would have only given one star, except that the employee in the parking lot was appropriately apologetic and offered me a discount upon return on the car, which he followed through with when I found him the day I returned the car. I was sent a survey and explained what happened. The response was as if my comments had not been read. I fly into Westchester quite a bit and I always rent a car. This is the first time I rented with Hertz (and the last) and it was the first time I had such a bad experience with the rental there. read more

I don't understand why a security deposit is required every time you extend the rental. I was charged 3 times! However when I returned the car I was told it takes time for the sec deposits to be removed! Well if you charged right away at pickup, why not take it off on return? Such a different experience than trying to get a rental out of LaGuardia. We arrived and went downstairs to the rental car location. There was a little bit of a line, but it moved pretty quickly as if you didn't have a reservation you had to go on a wait list. We approached the counter and my co-worker gave his name and they quickly located all the paperwork....pre-completed. That was such a great touch! Didn't have to wait for paperwork to print or answer any questions. Handed us papers and keys and wished us a good day. Now for my single star deduction. As we exited the building zero signs as to where to go for the rental cars. We looked all over the place and were unable to see anything promising. We decided the parking structure across the street must be where they are. As we crossed the street I looked back and much further down (from where we exited the rental car area) was a sign on a pillar that had an arrow and pointed to the end of that building for rental car pick up. So we went back across the street and headed that way....success! Found our car and we were able to exit w/o any inspection. All in all a great place to get a rental. Then as she got to the front they said "any gold members" and had some lady skip her before my wife could say anything. It was pretty annoying what was even more annoying, we are gold members too. This is one of the best Hertz locations. My car is always ready to go with Gold Counter service when I touch down, and Presidents Circle status is recognized with upgrades. The lot is maybe one block walking distance from baggage claim. Extremely convenient - makes choosing HPN over LGA that much easier. Minus one star for the slow check-in process. I frequently have to fill out the return slip that is printed with the contract because I cannot find anyone on the lot to check me in. The pickup was great, the counter service helpful to my 83yo mom on her first car rental ever due to personal car issues. Rental duration 5/19 1230PM thru 5/26 4PM, 1 week plus 1 extra day. The rented hyundai elantra died, luckily in front of her house after the 4th day, and I called Hertz Roadside assistance, who dispatched AAA since they are affiliated, on night of 5/24, approx.11PM. Entire cost for the rental duration was charged. Called Customer Service on 06-04. They were "so canned statment sorry" but only would credit with a future rental, not on the 2 days of lost rental. They cited that the "vehicle recovery time" between the time it was towed to wherever and when they located it, as if that is the renters issue? was the actual end of the rental, although the vehicle was not in possession of the renter. A credit of the lost 1 extra day + insurance + tax at a MINIMUM is proper customer care to ensure the possibility of future patronage. Currently awaiting a supervisor call back, since the sup "was in a meeting", yet the supervisor was able to advise the cust service agent that there would be no credit of any lost days of rental. Caveat emptor! It is as if there are 3 or more Hertz companies. 1 that rents, 1 that provides roadside assistance, 1 that "serves customers", 1 that sells the cars to the public, etc., and they dont care about you once you have paid. They only care about their property, and profit margin. Good ol'merican way. read more

Shocked that this desk is allowed to operate inside this airport with such RUDE people at the desk. I was attended to by mr mingo but he was ok. His co worker with the "natural" hair was the rudest. When I asked Mr Mingo several questions she rolled her eyes like it was annoying her. after I had the car and realized that the gas tank was not full, I came back into the terminal to let mr mingo know. Ms Natural hair said to me "Are you sure you know what you are looking at? Maybe you don't know what you are reading? I did not answer her because I was being helped by mr mingo and the answer the she deserved would not have been so pleasant. I have been driving for 44 years , longer than ms natural hair was born, and I think I know what a fuel gauge looks like. With two masters degrees, I think I know when it is totally full and when it is not. She then proceeded to tell mr mingo to call the serviceman to find out if "it is true". No ms natural hair. I just decided to come back to the counter because I wanted to make up lies and waste my time at Hertz instead of having dinner with my family. Mr Mingo called someone where the cars are and based on their response, reduced the amount of gas in the car on the computer. He asked ms Natural hair how he would print out the change on the gas. She blurted out" you don't have to give her anything." Nice ms Natural hair. Good going with the rudeness and attitude. She persisted in rudeness until I left. is hertz so desperate for people that it puts up with ms Natural? This took place on Monday September 8 at about 5pm. If Hertz is any kind of company it will follow up on this issue. Just look at all the complaints on yelp. These are from people who bothered to write. Renting a car here is very easy, however twice now I have received a subsequest charge on my credit card from a flakey outfit called Plate Pass supposedly for tolls. The thing is I always bring my own E-Z Pass transponder with me and use it. The last time they charged me $44.05 for $12 worth of tolls. What a rip-off. Getting a refund is a long, time consuming process. Hertz Customer Service basically shug you off and Plate Pass take forever. Watch out for these bogus charges and if you do think about using the transponder in the car for tolls be aware that you will be charged an exorbitant service charge on top of the tolls. This is a very doubious business practice by Hertz and Plate Pass. Do a quick search; you will find many, many other complaints. Update: March 29th. After a lot of emails and finally seeing the tolls Plate Pass was charging me for (places in New Jersey and elsewhere I had not been) they have agreed to give me a full refund. This has been a big pain and throughout Hertz did nothing. In fact they just stopped answering my emails. read more

Rented a car from the Birmingham airport for a few days with a return to another location. Picking up was easy and quick and because the reservationists asked me a few questions, we were able to get a discount for being over 55 and having AAA which saved us $80! Drop off at the 2nd location was just as quick and easy as our pick up had been. The car was comfortable and clean and just the right size for our quick 3 day rental. I never rented here but I'm sure it's fine. Returning a car here is, however, not easy. As another review states, signage was confusing. I saw every other rental company represented AND an attendant waiting to write up returns. Here, I circled a few times (no signage), saw Hertz parking spots, but no drop off sign or representatives. I stopped and pulled over where I could, and called. They said "just leave it in any space and come into the building". Weird. Someone came by and wrote something on the contract but I still had to find the desk in the main terminal. Someone even drove off with the car (an attendant, I assume) and the person who wrote on the ticket said "I thought you were dropping off". I DID! Whatever. Great company. LOL The rate was reasonable and I have to say that when our 1 week trip from AL to CA turned into 2 1/2 Weeks they made extending our rental EXTREMELY EASY!! I have to say that we took a chance and didn't purchase their insurance because it was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE AND WOULD HAVE MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR US TO AFFORD. But for 2weeks and 3 days we paid $699!! It was my first time renting a car but I thought that it was a reasonable price for a car that was way more gas efficient than my own and it kept me from putting 7,000 + miles on my own car so it was worth it to me. So I am a pleased customer but they should really make their insurance more affordable. read more

IF I could leave 0 stars I would. Hertz as a corporation is awful, but the service at the white plains location and Westchester airport location is actually worse. My mother-in-law flew in from Portland Or and picked up a car at JFK... by the time she arrived in Irvington NY the front end was shimmying so bad the car was practically un-drivable. She called the 800# and was told to go to the Westchester Airport to pick up a new car. When she got there the surly counter person told her that it was impossible -that she should have called them directly and that the person on the phone did not know what they were talking about ... after much ado and finger pointing my mother-in-law managed to leave with a new car - because she had no other way out of there! The next day she was in the parking lot of Walgreens and the car would not shut off. You guessed it a Chevy with the ignition recall... totally jammed... Had to call a tow truck and was towed to this miserable location by the train station in White Plains where she received her 3rd car in as many days.... The rest of the trip was uneventful, except that the day before she was to leave she became very ill and unable to drive. My husband took the car to this location to drop it off - since it is where we got it... and was told that he had to bring it back to JFK. He explained the circumstances, that his mother was too ill to drive and that we had hired a car service to take her to the airport.. they said they did not care... He asked if he could pay for the "change" and was told it was $450... He went on to explain the numerous cars we had to go through and the bad experience we had - and was told too bad... Not only that but the nasty, surly counterwoman lied to him and told him he had to fill up the gas tank -- when we later found out that his mom had paid for the full tank option. We were then forced to drive down to JFK from White Plains to return the car... which ended up costing close to $700. Needless to say there will NEVER EVER be a circumstance where we or anyone we know will darken the doorway of any Hertz Rental Car Agency again...and I will be sure to tell everyone and anyone I know about how poorly an elderly woman and her family that was attempting to take care of her was treated by Hertz in White Plains and the Westchester County Airport. read more

I would give it a zero if I could. Yesterday jan1st, was a long traveling day for me after missing my flight from Miami I was redirected to this city and airport in order to make it to my business arrangements for the next day. Unfortunately I was not caring my credit card. I gave my debit card at the counter and due to too traveling Wells Fargo had a flag on it so the card was declined. I called the bank and they cleared the flag. I returned to the counter and the rep was very rude and he said that he would not be able to rerun my card because it was company's policy. I told him since its company's policy it should be an open policy and that I wanted to see it the information in writing. He said he was not able to produce that information because it is also company policy not to show that policy. I like to pride myself in customer service. I've been in this industry for a while so if I receive bad customer service I communicate and I told him that. Anyways I ended up having to catch a cab to my destination and pay $300 for one way cab ride disappointing which would have been the cost of my rental which I booked for a week. Some of the staff at HPN are RUDE! The young lady at the counter was very pleasant and accommodating but the people in the parking lot treated me like I was inconveniencing them and interrupting their day. Once I got to the first car, I noticed that it was a very large car (2013 Impala). It had scratches everywhere and had paint damage in the back. I asked the lady with the natural hair in the parking lot if I had to go inside to change cars. She NODDED her head yes. I decided to just go with the car. However, when I was pulling out, I asked the guy at the exit where do I go to tell them that the car is damaged. He told me that I would have to tell them back at the parking lot. I just turned the car around and decided to just try and switch the car. I parked the car back in the parking space, left my bags in the car, and went back inside the airport at the counter. The young lady at the counter accommodated me and gave me a new car. Once I got back outside another gentleman was driving up in the other car. I was getting my stuff out the other car when I noticed that the new car he had had scratches and paint damage on the back of the car as well. I asked him where do I go to report the scratches. He didn't respond but realigned the car so I was able to access it better. When he got out the car, I asked again. He turned to me and pointed to the lady with the natural hair while walking toward her to ask. He then rolled his eyes and turned away from me. After sitting on a plane for 4.5 hours from LAS to ATL, then having to spend the night in ATL only to catch my delayed flight to HPN the next morning, I was exhausted. Based on his behavior he was obviously tired of me so I said to him, I'm tired too. He turned to me and scream EXCUSE ME and basically bucked up at me and was about to walk toward me. Now obviously I have upset him even more and since he is a man and I'm a woman, I decided not to push any buttons. Instead of repeating myself I just asked if I can fill out form. That's when he just turned around and walked back toward the lady with the natural hair who was now walking toward me. She filled out the form and handed it to me. Please note, this lady never opened her mouth to me. I'm not sure if she spoke English or not. But I was sure is that I was completely offended by both of their behavior. I have to return this car on Friday and I pray neither are working that shift. If they are, I hope they have better attitudes. Shawn at Hertz saved my day! I had rented a Jeep from another Hertz location, but called this location since it was closest to me in proximity. I could not figure out how to turn off the interior lights of the car I had rented. This was a problem because I needed to park the car overnight and I feared the battery would run down. I tried everything - Googling instructions, calling local (but closed) Jeep dealerships, etc. I then sheepishly called the Hertz at White Plains airport, fearing they may not welcome this type of call. Shawn answered, heard me out and eagerly offered to go out to a similar vehicle they had in the lot to try and figure this out for me. He took my cell phone number down and called me back less than 5 minutes later with the solution. His whole attitude and demeanor was so reassuring. It is this type of genuinely helpful customer service that will keep me coming back to Hertz overall. I hope to shake Shawn's hand next time I am at the airport! read more

Whatever you do do NOT rent from this company at the White Plains Airport. They obviously are trained at surcharges and will hit you up for unexpected charges. I dealt with this jerk named Courtland who you could tell looked shady. I went ahead as they were the cheapest to rent from...little did I know. I was told it was ok to return the vehicle to a different location but when I dropped it off no one was there. I deposited the keys in the lockbox. Next week instead of being charged for one day I was charged for 3! I immediately called the billing dept and was then told to call the original office. I did so and was told I needed to speak to Courtland but he was out that day. I left several more messages but never received a call back. This went on for 2 weeks! I finally got him today and he apologized but said the bill was closed out since it was more then 2 weeks! In addition he refused to admit he gave me the wrong address even tho my girlfriend was in the car and heard his misinformation. THESE PEOPLE ARE PROFESSIONAL RIP OFFS! read more

I don't rent often but my experience with Hertz was very nice. The car was clean and new. The staff on both the West Palm Beach and Westchester airport end were professional and pleasant.
