You may want to disregard these poor reviews because they were written over 4 years ago. From my experience, seems they cleaned up shop. I had an outstanding experience. I was quickly in to sign some quick paper work. Then quickly out with a new SUV - I was the first to drive it. Nice. And later, when dropping it off, all I had to do was turn in the keys. I appreciate Alamo making the whole process quick and easy. Too bad they'll be out of business upon the advent of self driving cars doing the UBER thing. read more

If I could give no stars I would. I have always had a great experience with Alamo Rental for years. After this last time, I will be taking my services elsewhere. After arriving in White Planes NY we got our luggage and then went over to get in line. The line was already longer than the other places. We stood there for a few, and then a few more. No one was moving one person was working the counter and was taking forever. Three other people were waiting who had already gone through the line and were waiting for them to bring the car up still. The line moved by one person and the other person was up there for at least 30 mins. She was only taking a black car nothing else would work. Really lady kets hole up the line because you want a black car. Why do you need a black car for real, anyway we finally got up to the counter and then went through all the normal stuff. Then they told us that they had to still clean the car and then bring it around. In total, we were there for over an hour to rent a car that was already reserved ahead of time. This was just ridiculous and for someone who is autistic, it was a huge challenge, as well as all the other people that were getting super upset that they also were having to wait for a car this just added to the overstimulating situation that was happening. There has to be a better way to do this that is not so disorganized. Like, Have the customers meet you out in the garage to get their car or talk on the phone when and where to bring the car up. It was not a great way to start or vacation off in NY. read more

I was a little worried making a reservation with Alamo based on some of the earlier reviews I read. I couldn't have been more mislead. I walked up to the rental counter to find no line and two attendants waiting patiently. Service was smooth and courteous and I was given 5 different vehicles to choose from. I had no problems with the vehicle and return was quick and easy. I would absolutely rent from Alamo in White Plains again. read more

I completely agree with the guy who listed in his review that the branch manager should be fired (His name is Bryon). I reached here and found out that they had only a few cars which Bryon told me that he could only give me a pick up truck or a huge van to which I replied i live in Manhattan and parking is difficult. I also have a broken foot but he convinced me he had none. Anyways i go out and start the car but it doesnt start so i come back in and he's talking to another lady and he tells her that she can upgrade for 15$ to sedans and he lists 3 sedans (which I had booked). I was the only one in line and asked him straight up that why wasn;t i given an option to which he replied i need to be respectful (Excuse me ??? what did i say wrong?) and then without me asking for an upgrade he said " I WILL NOT GIVE YOU THAT OPTION". Also he was threatened me that he will cancel my reservationwhich stunned me because the only reason I went back to the counter was to ask why the car was not starting. I think this was BLATANT discrimination, bullying and I am not sure what else comes in the picture. This is the worst company policy (bullying discrimination that I have ever come across. The staff was really helpful and friendly for the most part. I made my reservation through a third party and I anticipated it being a challenge to process my reservation but everything went extremely smooth. One complaint I have which is universal and not just Alamo is the underage fee. (Just when you think 21 is the bridge you need to cross) Even in regards to this Alamo has the best rate from my shopping around for underage drivers in NY state. Either way standard car rental procedures - no hidden fees for me. Everything went smooth and I was able to return the car after hours with no additional fees or anything of the sort. read more

On the website it says you don't need a major credit card. Then you get there to find out you need a major credit card and they only except a debit card if you have a returning flight. But how can you have a returning flight if there are no returning flights coming to the airport. Unfortunately this violates New York State Business laws. So I have super mixed feelings about Alamo Rent A Car. This was my first time renting from them and quite possibly my last. To be totally disrespected and cursed at in front of numerous people.....I can't even really put it into words! I missed work and it took 8 hours! Today was the WORST experience I have ever had with a rental car company. But let me say first that the ladies in Windsor, CT at the Bradley International Airport location are amazing. Kristen and Kate and I can't forget Daniel are the only reason that this post isn't 100% negative. This morning I came out to a flat tire. I was super annoyed but, I called the Roadside assistance and they had someone come out and change the tire, and it didn't take forever. That's where the good experience ended today.... I was told to go to the Westchester County Airport location to exchange my car because there was only the spare tire available in the vehicle and that wasn't going to be safe to continue to drive on. It was all set up for me to pick up the car from the new location by roadside assistance. I came in and the first person I see would be the worst person possibly in their entire company. Peter Camillone is the assistant manger at the location in Westchester County NY at the airport. When I came in he told me to go to the Enterprise counter (Enterprise Rent-A-Car Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental are partnered) because he was ordering his food delivery! That was mistake #1. Did I mention him being a "Manager". So I went to the Enterprise counter to only be told they had NO cars available. The guy that was at the other counter was very nice and went to go speak with his "Manager", who came out and proceeded to act a plum fool! So in a nut shell he told me he wasn't going to help me, it wasn't his problem and I needed to figure it out since I was the renter, it wasn't his responsibility. When I asked if he was the manager he got defensive and started being reckless at the mouth. He became even more disrespectful and when I stop talking to him and asked the other person who the "General Manger" was, Peter took his business card and threw it at me....then told me, "I could get the FUCK away from his counter." I didn't, I kept talking to the other employee and he told me he was going to get the police, I told him I would wait! After a bit of time he never returned so I got the corporate information and walked away, only to realize I left my I.D and my credit card. I walked back and there was an officer standing there. I asked if the other employee had seen my ID and credit card and we proceeded to look for it. Once I found it I asked the officer if I could speak with him. Here is the kicker each person I spoke to said this man had a problem. I am not the first person he has been disrespectful to and I probably won't be the last. But he chose the right one this time. My instinct wanted to match his crazy, but not only am I far away from home, I refused to let him take me there. I know that people have to work to make a living and to take care of themselves and their families but when I tell you I have had it with ignorant and rude people in customer service positions.....I HAVE HAD IT! If you don't like what you do, find a new job. Don't mistreat people because your having a problem. Then to top it all off they bring me another vehicle but it was absolutely atrocious. It was Kia minivan that smelled like something had died in it and was filthy. It has so many dings and scratches on it, I couldn't even think to accept it. So they are bringing me another vehicle, lets pray this one is a lot better. Needless to say I will never return to that location. read more

I recently rented a car through expedia and expedia totally messed up with some misinformation that they gave me but the staff at this location, (Will, Byron, Shakeyra, and Frank) were so amazing and did everything they could to get me on my way and even gave me a free upgrade to nicer car. One of the best customer service experience that ive had ever. P.S. The cars that they rent are so beautiful, i totally fell in love with the 2019 Ford edge. read more

The Tri-brand Alamo/National/Enterprise manager comp'd me three days with an Enterprise-owned Ford Explorer with 4WD. This vehicle was exactly what I needed and they delivered it right out front of the terminal the next day. So at least I had wheels the rest of the stay in NY. read more

It was honestly the best rental car experience I've had. The customer service was outstanding. Everyone we talked to was friendly and so helpful. They even watched our bags while we checked in so we didn't have to haul through the airport. We got an amazing new car - only 1,000 miles on it. No complaints about anything. Thanks!! read more

Extremely bad, was upgraded to what I was told was a All Wheel Drive then the Snow came and I got stuck cause it wasn't a All Wheel Drive! This was the absolute worst experience I've had w/Alamo! First they put me in a dirty, smoke filled, full size car (Nissan Altima) that had an air conditioner that would wake the dead! So after I refused to take that car they put me in a Chevy Malibu, I drove it 2 miles and noticed a bad vibration and noise coming from the right rear tire. Got to my lunch appointment 25 miles away (honestly didn't think the car would make it). I then walked around the car to find a completely bald tire on the right rear. It had another bald tire on the front drivers side. And to no surprise it had 2 different sets of tires on it and the care only had 15,000 miles! After my lunch meeting I drove back to the airport and they agreed that car was not road worthy and gave me a Toyota Camry. Bad, bad experience. read more

Made a reservation for the car through carrentals.com. Learned upon arrival that - as a non-US citizen - I needed my passport to get the car, Would have been helpful to get that kind of information when making the reservation where I had to enter all my personal data. The manager said he couldn't use my international ID card, since it didn't have the information in English. He handed me the ID card back and I left to get the passport. On my way, I realized that the ID card was in fact in three languages, including English, so I turned around and tried it a second time. The lady at the counter still wanted the passport, my arguing that the manager said the language had been the issue didn't interest her. So, I left the second time to get the passport. Finally got the car which was clean and in good condition. No issues there. However, I also had included an E-ZPass for the car which is a tag to automatically pay tolls for bridges in New York City, so that we could get to JFK airport for our return flight without waiting in toll lines. Sure enough, at Triborough bridge we got stopped since the E-ZPass tag we got at Alamo was invalid. It was retained, we had to pay the toll in cash and wait for 25 minutes, before we got the papers and could continue our ride to the airport, We also had a GPS from Alamo to make navigation to the airport easier. First I was happy to find that the address book of this GPS included the addresses of all Alamo car rentals, so I used this shortcut to navigate to the rental location at JFK airport. However, it turned out that it was the wrong address (Conduit Ave. rather than Federal Circle)! Fortunately, I had a smartphone with a data plan for the US on me, so that I could quickly find the right address, This detour cost us another 10 minutes, though, which was stressful, since we were now pretty delayed and didn't know how long security check etc. would take us. Overall, a service experience that could be significantly improved. I would have rated it with one star only, if the guy at the rental car return (named Ikram) wouldn't have been as nice and attentive as he was. read more

The nightmare started someday in November 2016, when I decided to choose Alamo rent-a-car service because it's $10 cheaper than others. I was able to get a car in the morning of November 12, 2016 and drove to New York. Everything is good until something happened. Same as the any other customer service, when you are happy, they smile to you. If you are not, they turn their back to you. Unfortunately, I hit a bad-luck deer on the highway near Westchester County Airport. I had to call Alamo roadside assistance service center and they suggested me to drive to the nearest Alamo car rental office, which is their Westchester county airport office, to find a replaced car. I was naive enough that believe they would take care of my family and give us an exchanging car. But when we talked to their crews, an old lady and a guy called Peter Camillone who looked like persons who had hated us for over 100 years, simply told me "No, it's none of our business, you go ahead to drive that car to New York". Can you image that they even suggested me to drive the damaged car for another 100 miles? We had to call roadside assistance center again and they felt sorry that we were not being taken care of by their crews in Westchester county airport. Then they suggested us to leave the car near the office and booked a Uber taking us to New York. And they will take care of the car in the second day. Then we left. 4 days later, police called us and told us the car was damaged and nobody took care of it. I felt fortunate that we bought insurance for it. But later, Alamo damage recovery unit said they didn't have notes about my conversation with the roadside assistance center. Then they insisted that the date of loss is November 18,2016. So, the insurance company rejected my claim because the record showed conflict time between my claim and their report. I would never choose Alamo or Enterprise or National in my life! And would suggest everyone I met not to do this. Otherwise, it will be your nightmare too! read more

I made a reservation online with Almo for October 18, 2018. I arrived and I was told that they needed to verify my address by Tandy Simmons. She called 800-801-5860, and informed me they were unable to confirm my address with American Express which I was unsure what they meant. I informed her that I had more than enough money on the card, but I gave her another card to try and she received the verification code, but when she swipes it is denied. I told her that was impossible, because there was more than enough money on the card. I get off the line, check my account and sure enough I had way more than the required amount available. I go back to the line and informed Tandy of this. I was advised to speak to the manager Justin Miller. Justin calls the verification number speaks to a live person and again they are unable to confirm my address. Justin then tries my second credit card at 800-801-5860 and he was unable to verify my address. I offered my coned bill as proof of address, which I was informed they had to use the phone number that was given and without it, he could not rent me a car. At this point, I felt discriminated against. I am watching others arrive and they were not required to have their address verified. I was told by Justin "due to me having a CT driver license my address has to be verified". I asked him why? He informed me due to the theft in NY, CT, and NJ it was required. I was appalled, and insulted. I informed Justin, that I just rented a vehicle and returned a vehicle to enterprise (enterprise owns, Almo, and national car rental) in New Rochelle, NY on Monday and had no issues. I even showed him the return receipt, Justin informed me because he was unable to verify my address he could not assist me. I suggested to him this was an unfair practice, because upon booking, the fine print does not advise this. If you are using a credit card, and you have a valid driver license, I was under assumption that was the qualification to rent a vehicle according to the fine print. read more

Worst car ever. After good service from ALAMO for over ten years. I rented a car last week but the National agent not the ALAMO agent did the paperwork. Worst car ever. 15,000 miles wouldn't go the speed limit...started to shake... Worse was when the 1) agent didn't show me how to use the very unusual key fob (I rent new cars monthly so I do know how to use them and my own car is 6 months old...) The trunk opened while I was in a building and my luggage was stolen. (2 of 3 pieces were returned by local police) After that experience the next day we went into a movie with my grandson's. Checked every door and trunk before walking away from the car. Returned to find the left door behind the driver's OPEN. Either the car was possessed or a recycled 1986 mess I was starting to look for the cassette player and roll down window handles. Never again. read more

I needed a car for the weekend and Alamo had the best rate out of all the rental car agencies that I checked. Landed at WP APO, I waited for about 5 mins before I was seen as another passenger was being helped. Agent was very nice, helpful and polite. I was upgraded to a mid-size car from my economy reservation. Car was nice clean and w/o any issues. I will be using them for all my future rentals. read more

We rented a car at the Westchester airport and returned it to Hartford. It REEKED from cigarettes (even though it was a non-smoking car). We bought an air freshener for the car which helped a bit. When we complained to the attendant at the Hartford airport, she did give us a very small discount. Would I rent from Alamo again. Yes, if the price is right. But next time I will complain immediately if there is an issue and request a different automobile. read more

Made reservation thru Costco due to low rate. When I decided to extend my use and drop-off at new LaGuardia airport location, I was told the "drop-off" charge would be $700.00! Conversation with managers and supervisors confirmed this ridiculous rate, even though Alamo has offices at LaGuardia. Subsequently dropped car off at White Plains airport as agreed, rented Enterprise car to drive to, and drop off, at LaGuardia for $80.00! Talk about "bait and switch." read more
